00:00Calling to order this meeting of the Avalon Birdwatching Association, order everyone.
00:15I will not be silenced, Meredith. Not when it comes to my birds.
00:19Need I remind you, Topher Bouchard, that the Red Cross bill is highly endangered.
00:25Technically just threatened, Patricia.
00:26That destruction of its habitat is the sole reason for its decline.
00:30One of the many reasons.
00:31And that Newfoundland is the only place on Earth that the Perkna subspecies mates, lays their eggs, and raises their young.
00:41So I will not allow you or anyone else to disturb or even know the whereabouts of its nesting colony on my tract of woodland.
00:49Let alone invite you and your bandwagon of birders from away, from trampling all over it.
00:56Say hello to the avian activists.
00:59Takes sides to everything, I guess.
01:00Patricia, please. Topher's tour members are our invited guests.
01:06They might be yours, Meredith, but they're not mine.
01:09And I have always respected that, Patricia. I have never stepped foot on your land.
01:14And yet, someone's been messing around in my woods.
01:18And just as the Red Cross bills are coming for their six-week stay.
01:23And you think that was me?
01:25Frankly, I resent that accusation.
01:27Well, whoever it was, Topher Bouchard, they better not try it again, or I will make them pay.
01:36Patricia.
01:37Patricia.
01:39Patricia.
01:52So, doing this is interesting to me as poor from everyone.
02:03Hey, don't be a sore loser.
02:15Swimming's the only time I get to beat you at a race.
02:22What have you found?
02:33Putting bird in Newfoundland, good one, Rex.
02:37Birders from around here would kill to see that.
02:46OK, everyone, we're nowhere near Patricia's land,
02:48so we should be fine.
02:50Just stay on the path, or you might end up with a soaker.
02:54This is Newfoundland's glorious marshlands.
02:59Now, I know when people think Newfoundland birding,
03:01they think gannets and puffins.
03:04But we have our share of wetland birds as well,
03:07many just passing through here to breed and feed, then off again.
03:13I came all this way to see baby crossbills,
03:16not herons and ducks.
03:17So take us to the colony.
03:18Well, I would if I could, but listen, that's the right crossbill.
03:27It's over in that forest.
03:29Oh, not so fast, Colin.
03:32Oh!
03:33Oh!
03:33Oh!
03:34Oh, my God!
03:35Ah!
03:37Ah!
03:39Ah!
03:53That's all I can tell you.
03:54I didn't even want to be in that marsh.
03:56I can see ducks back in Seattle.
03:57Okay, yes.
03:58Yep.
03:58Hey, just wait with the rest of the group.
04:00I'll get back to you.
04:01Hey.
04:01Donovan Call gave me the basics.
04:03Bird watching tourists found a body in the marshes
04:06and then drove here.
04:07Yeah, yeah.
04:09Terrified that there was a killer on the loose.
04:11Okay.
04:11Victim's name is Patricia McGee.
04:13She's a local twitcher in St. John's.
04:15People that found her are all chasers.
04:17So what you're saying is that the victim
04:19is a devoted local birder, i.e. twitcher,
04:21whereas all these people
04:22have come a long distance
04:24hoping to see interesting birds?
04:25Yeah.
04:27Are you into birding, Mark?
04:29No, I did a crash course on the drive-in,
04:31just like you.
04:32I didn't do that.
04:33What have you discovered so far?
04:34Well, Skyler Jenkins came all the way to St. John's
04:37to see the baby Red Cross bills
04:39and feels ripped off.
04:41Well, that's fascinating, but maybe not pertinent.
04:43Colin Crawford, he found the body.
04:45He's new to birding.
04:46Flew in about a week ago.
04:47Any previous connection to the victim?
04:49Only peripherally.
04:50Skyler and Colin attended a meeting
04:51of the Avalon Burgwatchers Association
04:53three days ago,
04:54where the tour operator over there,
04:56Topher Bouchard,
04:57got into an argument with a victim.
05:00Pertaining to...
05:01Patricia accused him
05:02of trespassing on land
05:03that she owned in search
05:04of the Red Cross bill's nesting colony,
05:06the exact location of which
05:07she would divulge to no one.
05:08And was he trespassing this morning?
05:10No, no, the marsh is public land.
05:12Her land is west of there,
05:14and her house is very close
05:15to the crime scene.
05:16Get contact info for the people here,
05:18then release them,
05:18but hold Colin and Topher back.
05:20I want to check in with Sarah
05:21before I interview them.
05:22Okay.
05:22Rex.
05:25By the way, he's a real dude.
05:28A casual but committed birder.
05:29Very nice, Mark.
05:32I really have to up my game
05:34in the obscure information department.
05:37Rex and I are en route to the crime scene.
05:39Sarah, are you still there?
05:40Yeah, I'm here.
05:41See you soon.
05:41The victim was found prone here
05:47on the ground,
05:48apparently strangled
05:49with her own binocular strap,
05:50but I'll confirm the cause of death.
05:52So whoever killed her
05:53didn't bring a weapon.
05:55It suggests the attack
05:56may have been random,
05:58spontaneous.
05:59Staged to appear as such.
06:02There was no cell phone found,
06:03but her wallet wasn't taken.
06:06No assault other than the obvious.
06:10Oof.
06:10Yeah, I'll take the body
06:12for foreign DNA.
06:13Have you determined
06:14a time of death?
06:15Uh, no more than 12 hours.
06:17I'll be more exact
06:18after the autopsy today.
06:19What was she doing here
06:21by the pond?
06:22Was she meeting someone?
06:23Did she often birdwatch here?
06:25Alone?
06:34What do you got there, Rex?
06:36Oh, something in the hair.
06:37A bird feather?
06:42It's small.
06:44It's red.
06:45Yeah, it could be
06:46a red crossbill.
06:47You can identify a bird
06:48off one feather?
06:49No, I can make a wild guess
06:51from an argument that the victim
06:53had just a few days ago.
06:54Oh, people argue about birds.
06:56Oh, don't they argue about?
06:57Oh, they're not.
07:07Rex is certainly
07:07interested in that.
07:10Well, if Rex thinks
07:12it's significant,
07:13then maybe it is.
07:14thanks for waiting colin oh no problem you good uh sorry still a little shaken
07:37i came to newfoundland to spot birds not bodies i just have a few questions
07:41um now you witnessed an argument between the victim and your tour guide tofer yeah i mean
07:47i only took up birding recently when i retired but it seemed a pretty common point of contention
07:52and what is that people who want to shelter birds from any human interference versus those who want
07:57to bring more and more people to see them and the argument got heated yeah but she threatened him
08:03not the other way around hmm you don't think tofer was involved it's too early to say i'm just asking
08:11some routine questions i mean he has seemed really tense the past few days but running a fledgling
08:15business is really hard pardon the pun uh fledgling right uh you said you took up the hobby when you
08:24retired you uh you seem a little young for that oh i made a killing in tech stocks still trying to
08:30figure out what to do with my time well hopefully this hasn't scared you off no no i'll stick it out
08:33sorry about this i know this can't be great for business half the tour is talking about leaving
08:39requesting refunds this sort of thing just doesn't happen here you know terrible things happen
08:45everywhere unfortunately how long did you know the victim tofer a little over five years since i
08:50started the business joined the local birding club where you argued with the victim just days ago
08:54patricia picked fights with everyone she was nuts about hoarding the red cross bill all to herself
09:00she accused me of trespassing and did you no never i'm not even exactly sure where her land is let
09:07alone bring people onto it but you'd like to i assume you must be under a lot of pressure to get your
09:12clients access to rare birds especially when they've flown so far to see them are you suggesting i
09:19might have something to do with this if i did why would i bring my tour group to find the body that's
09:24a good question where were you last night tofer seriously oh yeah very i had a drink at the motel
09:33where the tour is staying and then went up to my room to plan the next day's events can anyone
09:38corroborate that no but what could i possibly have to gain from killing patricia well that's a good
09:44question too find out what you can about this tofer character he got defensive straight out of the
09:55gate you know see if he has a record financial situation general background yeah we'll do run a
09:59quick check on a tour group too just you know routine stuff have we identified next of kin well
10:05there's no existing family but her husband jedediah and mcgee is listed as your sole beneficiary
10:10haven't been able to locate him oh they weren't together anymore no one on the island by that name
10:15what about close friends i mean they might know where he is and if patricia was having trouble with
10:19anyone felt threatened well there's meredith legault she's waiting at patricia's house with joe she's
10:24an old friend and president of the birders association she had a key well i guess what they say is true
10:30birds of a feather unlock together mark are you stealing my vibe i'm moving in on you jesse moving in on you
10:39don't like that
10:43what a horrible horrible thing to happen i don't think i'll ever feel safe in the marsh again
10:58neither of us thought twice about going in there alone you knew patricia a long time
11:03since we were girls we grew up together can you think of anyone who might have wanted to harm her
11:10you don't think someone she knew could have done this well we have to look at all possibilities it
11:14seems that she could be contentious an understatement i'm sorry to say but patty wasn't always so prickly
11:22she just got her heart broken so young how's that she was married briefly and she was barely 20
11:29to a man named jedediah he was the one who first got us all into birding encouraged her to spend every
11:37dime that she inherited to buy that land and then he just disappeared one day disappeared said he had
11:43something to take care of and never returned she waited and waited she uh she still has enlisted
11:50as a beneficiary in her will not that there's much to inherit rumor is she was struggling just to hold on
11:56to the house so why didn't she sell the land it must have been worth something patricia would rather die
12:03than betray her birds come with me i'll let you into her house
12:14birds birds birds it's a sad story really i mean i love golf but i'm not building a shrine to it
12:25i don't know you have to admire her dedication put her money where her mouth was did everything she
12:31could to protect a threatened species yeah never forgot the love of her life
12:37oh yeah well they look happy there that must be a young jedediah no computer no cell phone on the body
12:48she was old school yeah well i can't find anything that indicates she was
12:53planning to meet someone or had been threatened in any way nothing out of the ordinary
13:00look like old journals
13:04looks like she kept a diary of her life
13:05you got there rex what is it
13:17hey is that what you see rex
13:20it says red crossbell nest well that's the bird that patricia was arguing about trying to protect
13:24what's this wow is that a real ruby
13:34why would somebody who's struggling to pay their bills have something like this
13:37and is there more where this came from
13:50that is quite the ruby look if it's real it's worth a fortune but where did it come from and why
14:11wouldn't patricia sell it if she was really struggling why was she storing it in a red cross
14:14and that's the bird that she was arguing about the nest on her land and left a feather in her hair
14:20uh i've got a meeting with a local jeweler in town later today just to check on the value
14:24and also to keep it safe until we find out about her heir okay i'm still searching for jedediah
14:28mcgee i'm going to take this wedding photo and run it through facial recognition let me know what
14:32you find out also i've been looking into the bird tourists including the man that found the body
14:36there's nothing unusual or suspicious about them and topher well it seems that his business is
14:41hanging on by a thread but there's no record and as he said he had a drink with the tour group then
14:46he told them he was heading in for the evening but no one will vouch for him there was skylar
14:49the disappointed chaser she said she's pretty sure she saw him head into his room but that was about
14:54it and what do we know about her well she works for her parents development company got into birding
14:58when it became popular online hashtag trendy so that makes topher our top suspect but but what i
15:04don't understand is why someone would kill just to look at some birds that must be more than that i'm
15:09gonna head over to the provincial land registry i want to know exactly where patricia's land was
15:15something's nagging at you well maybe it's all the birdomania that's rubbing off on me i looked it up
15:20red crossbills like to raise their young mature forests right now this time of year and only for a few
15:25weeks so so why was a twitcher like patricia wasting her time in a marsh why was she looking at ducks
15:31when she should have been spending all her time with the crossbills i think you're right i think you've
15:37caught birdmania blame rex sarah's got the autopsy results let's go
15:48sarah what do we got hey yeah okay so time of death 10 to 12 hours before the body was discovered
15:55cause of death also is presumed victim died of strangulation now i did find foreign dna on the
16:00binoculars draft it's traced but it's there well that's great news have you run it through the national
16:05database that is the bad news there was no match but i'm widening the search also the bird song rex heard
16:12was in fact from the rare red crossbill as was the feather from her hair well i guess that makes me
16:20some kind of expert after all patricia's body showed clear signs of lividity posthumous pooling all the
16:28blood exactly but the discoloration was on the posterior thorax on her back yeah but patricia was
16:34found face down i know the blood should have pulled anteriorly so the lividity is off she was found in
16:40marsh when any same bird who would be in the woods and rex found a red crossbill feather in her hair
16:46when she was nowhere near their nesting site the body was moved moved yeah yeah but from where and why
16:58well maybe she wasn't the only one who wanted to keep people away from their nesting site
17:03maybe they didn't want anyone to see where she'd actually been murdered
17:09maybe i can find some answers at the land registry
17:20hello
17:20anybody here
17:32oh
17:35detective
17:38meredith
17:40what can i do to help
17:41definitely a real gemstone
17:49no doubt about that
17:51so it's a ruby then
17:54and one of exceptional quality
17:57burmese
17:59remarkable clarity
18:01and its color is the purest pigeon blood red
18:05pigeon blood
18:05huh
18:08it's ironic
18:10how's that
18:12well the house where we found it
18:14was once owned by a lifelong bird watcher
18:17one with deep pockets i assume
18:20why'd you say that
18:23how much would you estimate that this ring is worth
18:25judging the gem's weight uh between four and five carats
18:30on the right day with the right buyers i'd expect this ring to sell for at least two million dollars
18:40well i guess i'll be requesting backup to get this pigeon back to the roost huh
18:43sorry i didn't mention to you that i worked at the registry
18:49well i'm i'm not sure why you would
18:51exactly
18:52i'm just glad to help
18:54though i'm not sure how an outline of her property will help you find a killer
18:58i'm just getting the lay of the land
19:02well here it is
19:05patricia owned all of this area here
19:07is this survey hand drawn
19:11and newfoundland has a unique land registry situation the original settlers were breaking
19:16international treaties by overwintering when it was indeed a newfound land so anyone who did settle was
19:23simply squatting just claiming the lamp their own building on it with no deed exactly this led to generations of families
19:31selling squatting rights over kitchen tables drawing out the boundaries themselves
19:35and this list here is uh tracking who claimed it when and who they passed it on to exactly
19:42oh i never noticed that before noticed what the man patricia bought the land from
19:49lester zimmer he was a well-known slovene especially when it came to land transfer
19:54i'm assuming by slovene you mean a man with a less than reputable character zimmer was known for
19:59selling land that he didn't actually have claim to
20:02so you're saying patricia may not have even owned the land that she vowed to protect
20:06though i'm not sure how that could have led to someone killing her
20:12just interesting
20:15i think we're in trouble you have to do something
20:34two million dollars just sitting on top of a shelf in a bird's nest i mean still it could have been
20:39passed down to her and she kept it having no idea what it was worth you know she put it in a red
20:43cross bill's nest i mean there has to be some significance to that i know rex we're missing
20:48something i just got a hit on the dna found on the binocular strap jedediah harris jedediah harris
20:54harris but not mcgee yeah uh is there a photo i sent jesse his coast guard records
21:00yeah apparently he went ewol okay coming right up yeah can you uh you throw up a picture of
21:05patricia's wedding photo as well yeah you got it here that's the same jedediah all right
21:12the way that means the dna found on the murder weapon belongs to none other than patricia's long
21:17lost husband but jedediah's returned after all these years where is he now
21:37guys i put out a bolo on jedediah using the age-adjusted image won't be 100 accurate but it's
21:42start he looks like every tourist on this island and half the islanders yeah and comparing it with
21:49passenger arrivals no hits photo progression is far from liable yeah this is basically ai's version
21:54of a wild guess so basically we're looking for a 45 year old caucasian male who may look like our
21:59average joe and could have already fled the island for all we know but who came back 25 years later to
22:04kill his estranged wife why well he's listed as the sole beneficiary on her will could it be he's after
22:09the land maybe he knew about the ruby ring killed her to inherit that i mean it's all got to be
22:15interconnected but everything goes back to that red cross bill we need to find that nesting site soon
22:20yeah see where patricia was actually killed and why she was moved analyze that site i'm gonna look
22:25more into this ring a ruby of this size has got to have some history meanwhile rex and i are going to
22:30get set for that bird hunt tomorrow not that i have any doubt that rex will lead you to the nesting
22:35colony but hey should we should we put you to the test first rex can pinpoint and track birdsong
22:48better than humans for a lot of really cool reasons dogs hear more frequencies right yes exactly
22:53especially higher frequencies so we can hear up to 20 000 hertz
22:57okay wild dogs can hear up to 40 000. wow yeah that's incredible so when rex hears the bird song he
23:18might be hearing additional notes that are way out of our range exactly and his remarkable hearing doesn't
23:24end there because dogs possess this complex system of at least 18 muscles in each ear canal enabling
23:30them to independently move tilt rotate and adjust their ears to better capture and locate sounds
23:35so not only can rex hear the red crossbow song better than i can he can hear more of it from a
23:40further distance and he can track you directly there i think we're all set for tomorrow
23:54so what are you doing here it's an hour before shift uh i never left i just grabbed a couple of
24:10hours on the couch and signed out all these old evidence boxes yeah yeah i had my coat on and then i
24:16remembered an old jewelry heist from back when i was a rookie it was hard to find the information but uh you
24:22know what check this out wait did you figure out how to put the images on the board sort of uh oh here
24:28it is that's patricia's ring yeah it was stolen from the jeweler where i had the ring appraised but
24:34three owners ago and we have a suspect his name is leo styles we picked him up two days after the heist
24:44trying to flee the island by ferry he was held questioned but never arrested so therefore no mugshot
24:50exactly he was extradited back to the united states on old warrants but the jewels from the
24:55heist never found huh okay so you're thinking you're thinking that leo is actually patricia's
25:02husband under a false name and the reason why he disappeared is because he was extradited you are
25:06reading my mind he was released returned came to claim the jewels and then maybe patricia got in his
25:12way okay i'll call the prison where he was incarcerated see if they can send over an image if he was
25:16released no i'm one step ahead of you young detective see the thing is he was extradited
25:20back to california it's still the middle of the night there so we may need to wait on that information
25:28now joe's stealing my mojo
25:29okay rex so we're just gonna follow that bird song to find their nesting site seems doable
25:47but i uh yeah i have a feeling and i'm not hearing what you're hearing
26:09clever boy
26:10okay
26:21what do you have there bird's nest and shotgun shells
26:33get him
26:33go go go
26:55rex
26:56easy boy let him go
27:03no place on the track no white non-descript so no one was actually shooting at you
27:13no shotgun was uh shotgun fire was at a distance it's possible it wasn't even connected to the
27:18shells that i found on the ground or the guy who fled or it could have been jededi and an accomplice
27:23you guys are going to need backup if you plan on going out there again the more people the more noise
27:27the more targets i was trained to track and dense brush in the military joe stealth is your best friend
27:37that and a dog
27:39first i need to add a bit more intel i'm meeting up with sarah get her insights
27:43see if we can track this killer out of the bush before we head back in okay
27:46it appears to be a red crossbill's nest that cup-like shape and the color of the eggs
27:57well do what dna has to be certain
27:59why would jededi or anyone be shooting down nests but to silence the birds perhaps
28:04you and rex were tracking their nesting area by their bird song right to the edge of the colony by the
28:09looks of it so get rid of the birds you get rid of their song yeah and stop anyone from finding
28:13their nesting site people or police now it's odd to find a survey spike on her land by all accounts
28:24patricia was never going to sell so maybe someone needed her dead before they could close the deal
28:29someone like her husband getting ready to sell after inherits
28:33you know let's see what torbay surveyors has to say about that thanks era come on rex
28:42joe hey president in california got back to us sent us an image of leo styles the suspect in
28:47the old jewelry robbery that's definitely not patricia's husband damn i really thought i was
28:53onto something well joe you still might be because i combed through patricia's journals the ones that you
28:57had booked into evidence and found the exact date that jededi had disappeared and it was two days after
29:01the jewelry robbery said he had to take care of something then he gave her a red ring before he
29:05left there's definitely a connection that is great work well done jesse yes i'm reclaiming my vibe
29:11sorry what what did you say okay look we need to contact the prison again and see if we can set up
29:16an interview with leo styles uh no can do he passed away a month ago oh it seems like it's one step
29:22forward two steps back with this case all right we still contact the prison we see if there's someone
29:28that we can talk to someone who knew this man well okay after 25 years in there he's got to have
29:32spoken to somebody about the robbery someone who can lead us to jedediah
29:46i couldn't find anything maybe the police already have it
29:49i need to see you where can we meet
30:01you know it's illegal to remove an official survey spike
30:07on the police officer investigating a homicide i think it's okay well i don't feel comfortable
30:13divulging confidential client information oh really was it the uh owner of the property the murder victim
30:24who hired you to survey her land no no so you were in fact trespassing when someone else hired you
30:33weren't you just mentioning the legalities of surveys listen they talked me into it
30:40he said there was some question about who owned the land anyway that they were going to fight for
30:44ownership in course yeah i don't need excuses i need a name
30:51oh detective uh make any headway on the investigation ah these things take time just here to ask a few more questions
31:12how can i help oh no the questions are not for you the questions are for tophar
31:21i don't know as i recall you said you didn't even know where patricia's land was i was nervous
31:32okay patricia and i just had a very public argument right before she was killed i also remember you
31:37asking if you had killed her why you were bringing your tour group to find her it doesn't make any sense
31:42unless you were working with someone else have you been in contact with patricia's husband jedediah
31:48who no did he offer to sell you the land if you helped him agreed to find patricia's body okay
31:56this is insanity because we uh we suspect that patricia was killed on our own land protecting the
32:00red cross bills whoever killed her didn't want a search party coming through there who would go to
32:05that extent to hide a bunch of birds but it was you running through the woods yesterday didn't you drive
32:10away in that white pickup over there that was you i thought i was being chased by some maniac with a
32:20shotgun look i'll admit i was trying to get patricia's land i was in the woods to get those spikes so i
32:28wouldn't be implicated but i did not kill patricia and i am not working with anyone
32:33who are you hiding topper is jedediah in here i have never met a jedediah in my life
32:47i have but i swear i haven't seen him in over 25 years
32:51so tell me if i've got this straight you two were plotting to falsely claim that patricia really
33:04didn't own her own land so you could pressure her into selling before she lost it out right
33:09it was for her own good she was going to lose the house and i knew her birds would be safe with tophar
33:15her i want to open up a bird sanctuary with boardwalks going through so people can see
33:20the red cross bills and fight to protect them and make some money along the way well commerce is not
33:27a crime but fraud is and now we found out that you entered patricia's house illegally a neighbor called
33:35in i told her not to go i was just looking for the letter i'd sent claiming the title was under review
33:42you sure you weren't looking for this that's the ring jedediah gave patricia the day he left
33:56were you aware that jedediah was involved in a jewelry heist just days before i had no idea
34:03are you saying this thing is real how could it be he gave it to her in a crossbill nest like a
34:09sweet joke or a riddle which she kept there till her dying day the crossbill colony was very special
34:17to them their secret place that only they could find so even you haven't been there
34:25i tried trespassing a couple of times just following the bird song but the bush is just so dense and after the
34:34birds are gone and the song stops i don't know why you'd bother without the song to guide you it would
34:40be next to impossible to find where they nest even for jedediah after 25 years you don't think he's
34:46involved in this after all this time we have evidence that strongly suggests he was even after he left her i
34:55i always believed in their love to think she might have died at his hand
35:11you think the jewels are hidden where the crossbills nest that's exactly what i think
35:14no jedediah and leo robbed the jewelry store and hid the jewels where only they could find them
35:20and then plan on returning when the heat was off yeah but leo was caught and died in prison
35:24and then when he finally returned patricia surprised him wrong place wrong time when the birds are
35:29nesting is the only time you can find that spot i mean they were destined to stumble on each other
35:34yeah and she was destined to be on the wrong side of that which i guess sounds good but why is jedediah
35:39still out there shooting down nests silencing birds so no one could track them to the site
35:43right presumably he knew exactly where the jewels were hidden so why not just return and take them and run
35:49why take so long to get him back in the first place hey guys you're gonna want to get it on this
35:53telecall i got leo's long-time prison guard calling in from the states okay let's get sarah too
36:05leo was an old head even when i first started working meaning he's been in prison a long time
36:0925 years by the time he died spent his days talking about the heists he pulled
36:14he knew he was going to die in here so why not brag did he ever mention a jewelry heist in new
36:19finland canada or a partner named jedediah i'm not sure i know he claimed to have a stash of loot
36:26somewhere hidden where no one could find it did he leave any journals behind letters from the outside
36:31no nothing like that you know it's too bad you didn't call a few weeks ago his cellmate was just
36:37released yeah bradley spent a couple of years with leo probably heard every story a million times
36:43okay well if you send over bradley's record we might be able to track him down absolutely will do
36:50but be careful bradley hoffman seems nice enough but he's a stone-cold killer got out of technicality
36:55after his third appeal thanks here's bradley's record that's colin crawford the birder who found
37:07patricia's body find him yeah yeah i'll check in with the motel and tofer he's been released you
37:13need to move into that forest it's miles of thick brush can the tactical unit get us that kind of
37:18coverage we don't need tactical right right all we need is stealth and a dog there could be two of
37:23them out there mark jedidai's dna was on the murder weapon he's connected somehow well then we bring
37:28him in too we spooked them they could disappear into those woods and we never bring them in
37:32tactical's there they will stay 20 yards back it's the final answer okay come on rex
37:46all right just hold here and wait for my signal
37:53come on rex let's find this guy before he brings down any more crossbells
38:07well someone's looking for something all right you gotta be close
38:25what is it wrecked
38:34who's your friend
38:47i think we might have found you to die i guess partner didn't want to split the loot
38:51i think we're going to be close to the street easy easy easy stealth
39:04when i take him or shall i take him
39:08shut up or i'll shut you up
39:10yeah sure
39:17shots fired team one proceed with caution
39:21you're looking for something down there colin
39:24should i call you brad
39:28whose identity did you steal you know along with all your other crimes
39:32i'm just out here searching for birds oh is that right okay okay but you've been here before yes
39:43you came looking for the jewels but all you found was jedediah
39:48did patricia come across you the same day that you stumbled on jedediah's remains
39:51and then move the body to try and protect the location of the jewels while you continue to search
40:10a man would nearly kill himself pulling that much weight through the brush
40:20you're a determined man though right
40:31i think you're looking in the wrong place to be honest
40:33how's that if you had to die i gave patricia a ring after the heist put it in a red cross bill nest
40:55i think a little bird just told me where to find the stash
41:03so
41:27i
41:33Someone's getting steak dinner tonight.
41:52Well, it turns out there are $3 million worth of jewels in the crossbills' nets, not including the ring.
41:58More importantly, Colin, a.k.a. Brad, is back behind bars where he belongs.
42:01Well, Sarah had mentioned that Jedediah's DNA was found all over the gloves at the crime scene,
42:06and it's a miracle that the sample and the binos trap hadn't been degraded.
42:10Yeah, it's like Jedediah was literally getting his revenge from the grave.
42:15He and Patricia are going to be laid to rest together. I think they'd appreciate that.
42:19The land is going to be turned into a sanctuary just like Patricia wanted.
42:22Yeah, well, I'm just glad that the Red Cross bills are safe,
42:25and that you and Rex now have a little patch to dip into.
42:28You better get your bins ready for this, lifer.
42:31I can't even pretend. I have no idea what you just said.
42:36Got it back.
42:38All right, who's ready for dinner?
42:41Well, Sarah and Donovan will be here any minute. What are we having?
42:44Roast duck.
42:48Just kidding, twitchers.
42:51It's steak.
