00:00The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission is free to conduct investigations into Shamsul
00:05Iskandar Akin, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said today.
00:10In a statement, Anwar said he had accepted Shamsul's resignation as his senior political
00:15secretary and thanked him for his service over the past three years.
00:21Shamsul announced his resignation as Anwar's senior aide yesterday, citing attempts to
00:26attack him through controversies which he said could have a negative impact on the government's image.
00:33The Melaka PKR chief had drawn backlash for penning a letter of support for a hospital project,
00:39which also earned him a reprimand by Anwar as government regulations do not permit the issuance
00:45of such letters.
00:47Shortly after his resignation, Malaysia Kini quoted controversial businessman Albert Tay as
00:53claiming he had spent RM629,000 on Shamsul, including on renovations for properties linked
01:01to the PKR men as well as premium cigars and custom suits.
01:06Earlier today, a Kepong MP, Lim Lip Ng, dismissed a viral video showing a woman claiming to be
01:12a proxy for Shamsul Iskandar Akin alleging that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim was linked to the
01:18the discrete recording of Sabah politicians connected to the mining scandal, all of which
01:24has eventually led to calls for a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission probe of the Melaka PKR chief.
