00:00you don't want to acknowledge that the world is a loveless place so you go and try to talk to them
00:13and convince them sir you know please sir please understand sir they will not understand nobody is
00:19going to join you people are not ignorant they are vicious just because nobody is grieving
00:25just because nobody is crying out you think things are all right fine controlled decent no sir
00:31existence itself is wailing and this is the last stage of the disease we are all as good as gone
00:37we do not have enough time what you need is
00:41question is from akash he's a research scholar at iit madras
00:48akash is asking namaste sir i have come to see that the root problem is not environmental or
00:57technological but lies in our inner disorder our unconscious ego-driven way of living
01:02as a research scholar in condensed matter physics at iit madras i live among people who deeply believe
01:09that science can solve everything including the climate crisis i too appreciate science but i now
01:16see that even if we fix in quotes climate change the deeper disease of human ignorance and
01:23exploitation will persist sir i struggle to convey this understanding to others
01:28most of us have no idea of what actually is going on in the world i see the same thing in a lot of
01:35people around me and many times in myself also that they may be educated and thoughtful but they still
01:42believe that the current system is fine and only its true simply only its symptoms need addressing
01:47when i try to share your message it it often falls on deaf ears sir please guide me how can i help
01:54people see that the real crisis lies within how can i make this message clearer to those who believe
02:00that science and the system alone can save us
02:02you want a real answer the real answer is that we do not have enough time to wait for everyone to see on their own that we are on the edge of the final calamity and
02:32technological or scientific or policy measures are just eye wash is there enough time
02:49what you need is
02:51what you need is
02:56what you need is
02:57power
03:01if you say you want to go to these people they are not idiots they are just
03:09determined to not to understand
03:13Because their greed, their interests are aligned with the status quo.
03:24Climate is an entire industry which receives hundreds of billions of dollars in funding.
03:34The developed countries themselves have committed dollar hundred billion of funding under the
03:42Paris Agreement, annual, dollar hundred billion annually to climate mitigation.
03:51It's a big industry, though they are not actually providing that much but still the huge amount.
03:59And that's only the amount coming directly from the developed world.
04:03Otherwise also there is so much being raised in the name of climate.
04:12And those funds are obviously going somewhere.
04:16And there is an entire industry that receives those funds and is the beneficiary now.
04:22And they receive those funds saying that they will utilize those funds to come up with tech
04:29solutions.
04:31Now somebody is running his livelihood on the climate funds.
04:44Somebody is making an entire career on finding tech solutions to climate crisis.
04:49And you go and tell them there can be no tech solution.
04:52Why will they listen to you?
04:55Why will they listen to you?
04:59And it's not one people, it's like it's a massive body of climate work that now exists.
05:15And on the other pole, a lot of money is flowing towards climate denialism.
05:27Probably more money that is flowing towards climate crisis medication.
05:34So, if you are a climate denialist, you will receive a lot of money.
05:44For many things including publishing reports.
05:50In the public arena that nothing called a climate crisis exists and all those things.
05:55And to back up, back it up with some kind of shady scientific proof.
06:07You want to go and convince such a person, try and keep trying till the cows go home.
06:16Keep trying for 200 years, this fellow will not understand because his interests are tied now
06:22to not understanding.
06:25Someone runs his entire family and bases his entire reputation on dairy, milk business.
06:39His dreams are founded on dairy.
06:44I'll have more cattle and I'll export more beef.
06:50And I'll have two more big mansions, grand villas.
06:58I'll buy a luxurious island.
07:00I'll marry four actresses.
07:05And he has all these things founded on milk.
07:11And now, as a do-gooder, you are saying, Sir, I want to tell you a few facts.
07:15The colour of milk is red.
07:19And then you say, Acharya Ji, I tried my best but that fellow didn't understand.
07:23That fellow doesn't need to understand.
07:25He already knows it better than you do.
07:28He knows everything and he has already made a decision.
07:31Let the planet go to hell.
07:36I will enjoy my little life.
07:40That's his decision.
07:43He already knows whatever you can tell him.
07:45He knows it better than you do because he is net deep into the blood.
07:54What you need now is not persuasiveness but power.
07:59And that's what you all lack.
08:02We have just too many simpletons here who do not understand that the world in general
08:11does not run on truth.
08:13It runs on power.
08:14These are two centres.
08:15Please understand.
08:16The real centre works on truth.
08:20Wherever the truth is, the real centre goes towards that.
08:24But 99% people in the world, they do not operate from the real centre.
08:28They operate from the false centre and the false centre understands only one language, the
08:32language of power.
08:36You cannot convince the ego.
08:38You can only coerce the ego.
08:42The ego lacks the capacity to be convinced.
08:49But you can bulldoze it.
08:54And it is bulldozed day in and day out.
08:57That's how the operations of the ego are.
08:59Why does the common man work?
09:01Because if he doesn't work, he will be fired.
09:07There is either the centre of truth or the centre of fear, which is the centre of power.
09:11Both are the same.
09:14The world does not run on truth.
09:15It runs on power.
09:18Look at what the US and Israel are doing to Iran.
09:22There is truth there.
09:26The one who has power calls the shots.
09:29And probably truth is on neither side.
09:37But what is certain is that the side having power will emerge victorious.
09:43You confuse spirituality with idealism.
09:49You say, no, we have understood because Achaharaji told us and we understood.
09:53So now we will go out and make others understand.
09:58And when nobody understands you, then you return empty handed to me, disillusioned, disappointed
10:05and shocked.
10:07But Achaharaji, we told them the same things that you told to us, but they didn't understand,
10:12sir.
10:13Because you are not me, they are not you and their relationship with you is not your relationship
10:21with me.
10:24They will not understand.
10:26Had they wanted to understand, first thing they would have come to me.
10:31They very well know I exist.
10:33They chose not to come to me.
10:35If they do not listen from me, why will they listen to you?
10:41And still you think some kind of very decent means are possible if you want to convince
10:50them.
10:51No decency is going to work, sir.
10:53You need to have power.
10:56And one power that you can have is the power of your numbers.
11:01But you are blissfully sleeping in some kind of idealism.
11:11You don't want to acknowledge that the world is a loveless place.
11:17You don't want to acknowledge that those around you are mere beasts.
11:25At least most of them, if not everyone.
11:29You don't want to acknowledge that.
11:30Why don't you want to acknowledge that?
11:31Because those around you are exactly the ones that you are associated with.
11:37They are your friends, your relatives, your lovers.
11:41And they are the ones who do not listen to you when you tell them about climate change.
11:50If you acknowledge that they are beasts, you will have to acknowledge that the ones you
11:53love are all beasts and the ones who provide you your livelihood, they are also beasts.
12:00Everything will be risked.
12:02Your attachments, your bread and butter, everything will be risked.
12:07You don't want to run that risk.
12:10So you pretend people around you are decent folks.
12:14So you go and try to talk to them and convince them, sir, you know, please, sir, please understand,
12:20sir.
12:22They will not understand.
12:24They are determined to not to understand.
12:30Now, if you can do something, proceed.
12:35Yes, there will be a miniscule minority, fence-sitters, who are genuinely just deluded, who don't
12:46have the problem of intention, who just had scarcity of knowledge.
12:53Therefore, they were on the fence.
12:56These are only the people you can convince through persuasion, dialogue, argument.
13:03But it's a very tiny number.
13:06So that one percent, yes, we can play on that and we say, yes, we can, we can keep including
13:10more people, more people.
13:11But the massive majority of people, they will never come, not because they are ignorant, but
13:18because they already know everything and they have made their choice.
13:24They have decided that the planet can be thrown to dogs.
13:31That their remaining life of twenty or forty years, that's what they have to make the most
13:36of, consume, consume, consume, kill, kill, kill, destroy, destroy, destroy.
13:45That's their motto.
13:46They have already decided.
13:50It has to be a war, you see, we can't avoid it.
13:56But in such acceptance, your ideals and images of spirituality become a hindrance.
14:01You say, but spirituality is all inclusive.
14:05We have to go out singing and dancing on the streets and everybody will join us.
14:10The world is such a good place, you know, we will just go out and display a lot of virtue
14:16and love and morality.
14:19We will send out nice vibes to the society and everybody will join us.
14:26What kind of foolish dream are you living in?
14:32Nobody is going to join you.
14:38People are not ignorant, they are vicious.
14:45Even Shri Krishna could not convince that massive army standing in front of him to not
14:49to fight or to join him.
14:52Could he?
14:54There were more people against even Shri Krishna than were with him.
15:00The ones standing in opposition to Shri Krishna, right even in his lifetime, outnumbered those
15:06who stood with him.
15:10Who are you?
15:13Somebody beyond Krishna?
15:16That you will go out and convince these rascals?
15:21They have their own priorities.
15:28They may not necessarily be obnoxious kind of villains.
15:38Somebody could be a Bhishma.
15:40Somebody could be a Karn.
15:43But irrespective of what point of morality their priorities come from, the bottom line is,
15:50they stand opposed to you, Bhishma stands opposed to Krishna and Karn stands opposed to Krishna.
15:59Because they have other moralistic priorities and they have to be fought down, that's it.
16:05And if you cannot fight them down, the Gita is not for you.
16:09It's war.
16:25You do not understand the nature of wisdom or the Gita.
16:33You just don't understand.
16:34You think it is just a coincidence that the Gita was spoken to a warrior?
16:39No sir, the Gita is a thing of the battlefield.
16:41Where there is Gita, there has to be a battlefield.
16:47You want to have the Gita and avoid the battlefield?
16:51What kind of cowardice is this?
16:55Let us have the Gita, but avoid the battle.
17:00And that's when Shri Krishna is telling Arjuna only to fight.
17:06The Gita is a message to fight.
17:09But you think the fight can be avoided?
17:11No, the fight cannot be avoided.
17:15The peaceful ones among you, they can quit.
17:20And I am okay with that.
17:24Quit and take your right position.
17:27Go to the other side so that we can fire at you.
17:30Don't remain among us.
17:32We don't want those whose insistence is on pacification.
17:40No no, let's be nice, let's be decent, let's you know this, that.
17:45I too would have opted for that, could it work?
17:48It doesn't work sir.
17:50It didn't work even for Krishna.
17:52It never worked for anybody.
17:56It can work only on a very small minority, one percent.
18:00And on them we are already working.
18:12The biggest problem is the passivity of those who have begun to understand.
18:17You have begun to understand, but you are such passive people.
18:23You think the Gita is so that everybody can just live peacefully in the world as it is.
18:34Gita is the disruptor.
18:42The clarion call, it's a war call.
18:46You still have too much respect for the world.
18:49Your problem is this, please understand.
18:52You don't have enough contempt for those around you, that's your problem.
19:05My situation was such that, even if I tried to act decent in front of my bosses, they could
19:15still feel as if I am spitting on their face.
19:21In my brief corporate stint, a little more than three years.
19:29Applying the maximum restraint, I would face them with a deadpan expression, with a totally
19:38blank face and eyes.
19:40I would look at them and still they could sense that they have an enemy standing in front of
19:49them.
19:50They could smell war.
19:56Because I could see through their being, their desires, their determination and I knew that
20:07they are the ones determined to destroy everything.
20:18And their determination is almost final.
20:20They are inexorable now.
20:27The point of no return has been crossed by most of them.
20:38Shaking of minds and shaking of hands is no more possible.
20:45You don't see that.
20:46You don't want to see that.
20:47You don't want to see that.
20:48Right?
20:49You want to pretend.
20:50Your family is virtuous.
20:51Your friends are virtuous.
20:52Your relatives, your society, your locality, your bosses, your peers.
20:57You want to pretend that they are all almost nice people.
20:58They are not sir.
20:59Do you understand the state of this planet?
21:00Do you even realize that you are not?
21:01You don't want to see that.
21:02You don't want to see that.
21:03Right?
21:04You don't want to see that.
21:05You don't want to see that.
21:06You don't want to see that.
21:07Right?
21:08You want to pretend.
21:09Your family is virtuous.
21:10Your friends are virtuous.
21:11Your relatives, your society, your locality, your bosses, your peers.
21:13You want to pretend that they are all almost nice people.
21:18They are not sir.
21:20Do you understand the state of this planet?
21:27Do you even remotely sense that and you still want to call yourself nice?
21:35Don't you have any individual center just because nobody is grieving?
21:41Just because nobody is crying out?
21:45You think things are alright, fine, controlled, decent?
21:49No sir.
21:50Existence itself is wailing.
22:01And this is the last stage of the disease.
22:04We are all as good as gone.
22:18And these people around you, they are the ones responsible.
22:23And they have done their deal with the devil.
22:35The deal is sealed.
22:37You cannot reverse their deal with the devil.
22:42It's called the Faustian bargain.
22:44In which, in lieu of certain comforts and privileges, you sell away your inner truth.
23:00They have done the deal.
23:01They have done the deal.
23:02And they won't reverse their deal.
23:04Now, it depends on you.
23:06Whether you want to continue exploring alliances there or you understand that it's war.
23:16And war does not mean that you have to pounce on them and punch them in the face.
23:22War means an internal acknowledgement that you have to give it all that you can.
23:29That pacification or isolation is no more an option.
23:36That you have to be into it with all that you have.
23:42Just as when a nation faces war, all its resources are diverted towards the war.
23:53You do not say you know so much of the budget, this has to be allocated to civic amenities and beautifying our parks.
24:02So, beautification of parks is wonderful but let that wait for another day.
24:19The one who does not identify the enemy as the enemy will be the first to go.
24:30You find them attacking me every day.
24:33Don't you understand?
24:36How dumb can we all be?
24:42Do you think they understand me for no reason?
24:44No.
24:45They know I am an existential threat.
24:55I am being systematically subdued.
25:01Don't you see that?
25:02Just apply a little bit of intellect and you will see, yes that is happening.
25:07They know it's war and they are hell-bent on suppressing you.
25:26But you want to pretend all is hunky-dory.
25:29You want to pretend, no, no everybody is nice and these are all decent people.
25:32After all, they are our own society, our friends.
25:37That side is pulling no punches.
25:43That side is attacking you with all its might.
25:47But because you are very, very afraid, you want to pretend that there is no war.
25:52They are all co-conspirators.
26:15Where in the media do you find climate change being accorded the space it needs?
26:23Do you find that?
26:25Think of all the reputed publications.
26:28Do you find them discussing the climate crisis?
26:31Do you find them telling you that you are on the verge of extinction, wholesale extinction?
26:36Do they tell you?
26:37They are all hands in gloves.
26:46Left, right, centre, they are all one.
26:52And the truth is all alone.
26:55Choose your side.
27:06Such innocent looking questions you put.
27:12I go to my friends and I try to tell them there can be no tech solution to climate change,
27:17but nobody listens.
27:26They will not listen.
27:27They cannot listen.
27:28They already know.
27:37And you are alone.
27:39Now if you are a man, pick up the gauntlet.
27:46They have already thrown it.
27:52They have already thrown the gauntlet.
27:55They are saying we will not change.
27:56We are determined to destroy the planet.
27:59Now if you are a man, take up the challenge.
28:02Sir, this entire society is those who see themselves as beneficiaries of destruction.
28:19You must understand that inwardly you cannot have any pact with them.
28:27These are two different centres that cannot meet.
28:31The centre of destruction and the centre of compassion.
29:00It is not that they do not know.
29:03They know and they have made their choice.
29:07Now you see what you have to do.
29:13They have already chosen.
29:15Now you see what you need to choose.
29:19Now you see what you need to do.
29:40Here will you give us to work with.
29:41It except for the whole fact of the system,
29:44has been somewhat blocked and everything,
29:45as you say a mystery,
29:46Now you see what you need to do.
29:47It except for the world.
29:48It may not appear,
29:50it may not appear for them and all the people they have to leave.
