00:01Rob and Holly, live from Reef House Resort and Marina in Key Largo.
00:05And we are being joined by Aaron Muir, Community Engagement Manager at Moat Marine Laboratory and Aquarium.
00:12We got to do a little bit of tour and we got to make some babies.
00:15We made some coral babies.
00:17Some people think it's rocks, but it's not.
00:19That's true. Corals are animals. They are the backbone of the coral reef ecosystem.
00:24And so many people don't realize how important this ecosystem is to all of us who live here in the Florida Keys or love to visit the Florida Keys.
00:33We wouldn't be here without our coral reefs.
00:35And we did more than just like a tour. We got to make babies because you guys are a nursery.
00:40And what I'm talking about, and maybe you can explain it, is we made coral babies.
00:44You did. It was so fun to be able to give you all that hands on experience.
00:48Guests can do this when they come visit Moat's land based coral nursery here.
00:53One of Moat's missions is to try to restore this ecosystem.
00:57And Moat does this through science driven restoration practices.
01:01So at the nursery here in Key Largo, we are replicating corals.
01:06We are producing more coral babies.
01:08So Moat scientists can outplant them on reefs here up and down the Florida Keys.
01:13Moat offers tours of all of our land based facilities.
01:16They are free.
01:17You just have to sign up online at moat.org backslash keys tours.
01:22We also can do private tours upon request.
01:25We have incredible education programs.
01:28We have an amazing experience called Slice of Paradise.
01:31This is like what you all did when you learned how to microfragment those corals.
01:34So you can book a microfragmentation experience with us and make your own coral babies.
01:40If you're a scuba diver or a snorkeler, we also have in-water opportunities to get involved with restoration.
01:46That's amazing.
01:47Moat is putting tens of thousands of corals out onto our coral reef every single year.
01:53The need is great, but Moat scientists are rising to this challenge and we are confident in our ability to restore this ecosystem.
02:00Well, thank you for all the work that you do.
02:01It's absolutely amazing.
02:02Of course.
02:03Yes.
02:04Thank you so much for joining us.
02:05We appreciate you here as we are broadcasting live from the Reef House Resort and Marina in Key Largo.
