Martin Scorsese's highly anticipated three-and-a-half hour organized crime epic The Irishman finally made its debut at the New York Film Festival.

00:08Martin Scorsese is praising Netflix for backing his latest film,
00:12The Irishman, calling it a costly experiment.
00:14The film, which spans decades, uses de-aging visual effects
00:17and makeup to make stars Robert De Niro and Al Pacino,
00:20among others, appear at different ages.

00:27The highly anticipated three-and-a-half-hour organized crime epic
00:30finally made its debut at the New York Film Festival on Friday,
00:33followed by a press conference with Scorsese and stars De Niro,
00:36Pacino and Joe Pesci, along with producers.
00:38During the conference, Scorsese credited Netflix for finally
00:41putting up the money they needed to make the movie,
00:43which others, including Paramount, were unwilling to do.
00:46The director said of the streaming giant,
00:48We couldn't get the backing that was key for years.
00:51Ultimately, it was Ted Sarandos.
00:52Lucasfilm's Industrial Light & Magic had come up with a solution
00:55for the de-aging process that wouldn't interfere with Bob and Al
00:58talking to each other with helmets or tennis balls.

01:02Ted and everyone at Netflix said they'd go with it,
01:04backed the film, financed it, and were creatively attuned to us.
