00:00This is the most unbelievable cover story since Blake Shelton won Sexiest Man Alive.
00:04Are you kidding me?
00:08Patriot Act is getting Netflix's stamp of approval.
00:11The streamer is committing to Hasan Minhaj's political comedy series by giving the show
00:15an additional seven-episode order.
00:17The green light will add to the Peabody-winning series' initial supersized 32-episode order
00:21that wrapped up in December.
00:23The new batch will premiere starting March 29, with installments looking to drop weekly into May.
00:28The additional episodes run as the show's sixth cycle and will be led by new showrunner
00:32Prashant Vinkantharamanujam, a co-creator of the series and Minhaj's frequent collaborator.
00:37The news comes on the heels of last week's announcement that the Patriot Act host will headline
00:42the White House Correspondents Dinner for the second time.
00:45The streamer placed a big bet on the Indian American comic in 2018 following a string of
00:50high-profile talk show failures, including ones from Chelsea Handler, Michelle Wolf and Joel McHale.
00:55And the big bet paid off.
00:57Minhaj previously collaborated with the platform on his breakout comedy special Homecoming King
01:01right after he gained recognition for his widely praised 2017 Correspondents Dinner Roast.
01:07The 34-year-old comedian got his first Days to Variety series on The Daily Show, first as a
01:12correspondent under Jon Stewart and later Trevor Noah.
01:15Patriot Act has tackled student loan debt crisis, immigration enforcement in the Trump era,
01:19and Amazon's plan for world domination.
01:22Of course, no episode has received more attention than his takedown of Mohammed bin Salman,
01:26which Netflix pulled from the Saudi Arabian market at its government's request.
