00:01Life is for those with conscious mind, body and soul
00:05Running to the poles, setting standards and goals
00:08Life is for those who engage the struggle and welcome the fight
00:11Whose oil that burns well into the night
00:14Not the ones who think is cool, skipping school, acting a fool
00:17Smoking on blood, spilling silly stunts, wasting time
00:21They'll be left behind in the unimportant line
00:25Listen, the reason why we are all here today is because we are youth
00:29I need you, I need you professionally and I need you personally
00:33I don't want to work for the rest of my life
00:36I need to know there are some beautiful bright young minds coming up behind me taking the reins
00:41And that sits in this room right here
00:52Access is everything
00:54So there are so many people who have the will, who have the talent
00:58Who are literally gifted but they never get the access
01:02You need to see people who look like you, who are succeeding in life
01:06So that you know that it's possible
01:09That that could be you sitting in that seat
01:28Hi, my name is Tiana and I'm 16
01:32When you're growing up an African-American female
01:34A lot of people from different races, they look at you differently
01:38They don't necessarily think that you have the capability to do the same thing as, say, a white female would
01:44One of my biggest dreams is to go to college
01:47I think since I've always had that goal, since from like a young age, I've always been working towards it
01:57So I think it's something that I'm definitely going to do
02:02It's not even an option at this point really
02:04Hello, I'm Miguel and I'm 15 years of age
02:12When I was back in the third grade, fourth grade
02:14My mother was single, but she got with another guy
02:17And we weren't disabled at the time
02:19So we were living in like a van
02:22And it was me, my sister
02:24My older sister, my mother
02:26And we were in a car
02:28We didn't have too much supplies
02:30We wouldn't shower as often
02:32And I wouldn't go to school
02:33I wouldn't be able to actually do work
02:35I felt depressed
02:36It wasn't the good conditions for anyone to be in
02:40I'd be very happy and proud to know that I got accepted into a program that not many people get into
02:47It'll help me be a better leader
02:50I believe I can make a change in the world
02:56Hi, I'm Anaya
02:57I'm in the 10th grade
02:58And I just turned 16
03:00I have three brothers
03:02I have an older brother
03:04Then it's my little brother
03:05Then it's my baby brother
03:07Sometimes it's great having just brothers
03:11Sometimes it's not
03:13It's a little overwhelming
03:15It's very important for me to do well for my brothers
03:21You don't see a lot of black people, black young women, making it out
03:25Especially in a community like this
03:27I just want to show them that it's possible
03:33With all the hurt, you can make it
03:36If I don't get accepted into the program, I'd be really hurt and sad
03:42I just, I really want to do this
03:48I'm ready
03:50If this program works as it should, we will be influencing the future of entertainment
04:09The kinds of movies and TV shows that are green lit
04:12The decisions that are being made in the executive suites and corporate offices
04:17What I would love the mentees to know going into this is that we need them
04:22This is not a one-way street
04:24We need them
04:25We need their points of view
04:26We need their passion
04:27It's a lot of hard work
04:29And they've got to be really curious
04:31And they've got to be kind of always exploring new ideas
04:36And kind of learning about all aspects of the business
04:45You're in the final group now
04:47Why you?
04:48I feel like I should be in it because
04:51I don't know, I feel like everybody has their own mindset
04:55And I feel like mine is different, especially from other kids
04:59And my struggles and my strengths could help
05:04It's just my life
05:05It's true
05:06Why should we take you for this program?
05:08I think you should choose me because it's something that I need
05:11Not just want per se, but it's something that I feel is going to do me a lot of good
05:15To have a support system, to have people to talk to, know that I can count on
05:21What would getting into the program mean for you?
05:23It would mean that I actually accomplish something for my future
05:29Working towards my future and being able to grow within myself
05:36Something's in me and I'm just waiting for it to come out
05:43Hey Anaya
