'The Crown's Olivia Colman and Gillian Anderson shared their experiences meeting real royalty while stopping by 'The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.'
Transcript
00:00There were endless people with gold frills on their shoulders and all sorts of different
00:05outfits and different uniforms. The Crown's Olivia Colman and Gillian Anderson are opening
00:10up about meeting the real-life royals. Colman is set to return as Queen Elizabeth on the Netflix
00:15series, and Anderson will star in the upcoming fourth season as Margaret Thatcher. And while
00:20stopping by The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, both described what Colman called an extraordinary
00:24experience. What was hilarious was that it turns out everything we've done in The Crown was toned
00:29down compared to as it is in the actual palace. Anderson even offered a unique detail about
00:35visiting the Queen to royal family fans out there. There is in fact a Queen whisperer.
00:40You know, there's somebody who walks with her and whispers in her ear to tell her who it is that
00:46she's about to meet. The fourth season of The Crown picks up in the late 1970s, with the majority of
00:51the action taking place in the 1980s, amid Thatcher's reign and as Prince Charles and Princess Diana
00:56have what appears to be a fairytale romance. Colman and Anderson discussed nailing down the famed
01:02accents of their characters, with Anderson noting the former Prime Minister was very breathy,
01:07and Colman joking that the royals have a whole other level of speaking. When asked by Colbert if
01:11Colman had learned of a more tender and human side to the ruler, the actress admitted she'd never be
01:16presumptuous to know how another feels, even a Queen.
01:19Considering she was never meant to do it, I think she's pretty bloody marvellous at it. And
01:23yes, I think she's not as stone as she seems.
01:28Season four of The Crown streams on Netflix on November 15th.
