00:00tonight on dragon's den whoa oh man
00:07you take the deal all right don't mess with our new dragon let's just hold on a second okay i raised
00:16four children as a single mom without a job and built a business do not stand in front of me and
00:24tell me that it's too hard i started the business with 30 000. where'd you get that from my whole
00:30savings and your entire life savings entire life savings
00:54so first up let's see if these jujitsu sweethearts can tap out the dragon's heat
01:02with their frosty treat hello dragons hello hello my name is fernando that's my wife and business
01:08partner raquel hello we are from london ontario and today we are asking for 150 000 in exchange
01:15for 15 of our business hyper acai originally we are from brazil and as brazilians we have two passions
01:23jiu-jitsu and acai when i was training to become a brazilian jiu-jitsu fighter that when i was
01:31introduced to the acai it was the perfect after workout snack but when we moved from brazil to
01:37canada acai here in canada was being watered down blended with other fruits and nothing like what we
01:44grew up with so just as in jiu-jitsu we earned the position we decided to take acai from brazil to
01:52canada take the market to the mat and someone's in trouble oh you gotcha oh
02:00when the competitor is into submission whoa wow well done i mean i was a national champion with
02:06shota can for many years do i need to get on the mat and show anybody here show me this guys all right
02:16all right these are tight pants you're wearing purple just like acai oh yeah
02:22cool from behind you the four finger go my forearm squat that's what did i do lifting me whoa oh man
02:30next time you take the deal all right nice whoa don't mess with our new dragon
02:38well done yeah good job look at you what don't you do i know right that was really cool i'm mad at
02:44many talents we derailed you a little bit here but let's i want to focus on what's underneath the
02:49we do nothing meat hyper acai oh it's real authentic acai sorbet that it's gluten-free
02:59vegan full of antioxidants and it's delicious would love for you dragons to have yours absolutely
03:07it's frozen hey that's how we have acai in brazil we keep the the brazilian tradition to have like a
03:13sorbet oh wow yeah wow that that is delicious because you're right usually it's a more watered
03:18down yeah the difference between us and our competitors it's because we have the highest amount
03:23in acai in the sorbet that's our number one ingredient but if you compare to most of our
03:28competitors they go below 20 percent i like the taste of it i mean i can see adding this to a smoothie
03:34as well not just eating it like this uh i like the texture i think i find it a little too sweet yeah
03:40well how much of it how much of the sugar is is natural sugars and how much of it is added sugar
03:46most of them it's natural sugar 13 grams is the added 13 grams is added yes okay that's quite a bit
03:55well how much is this sell for yeah right now uh we sell for 375 for the for wholesale and 599 for the
04:03it's suggested retail do you get pushback on the price like six dollars for this i don't think it's
04:08how much 200 mils like uh acai only grows in brazil so i get that it's an expensive ingredient but i'm
04:16asking the customer yeah like there's a lot of pressure on people right now on their grocery bill
04:21their household you know expenses i completely agree acai bowl is like 15 to 20 bucks now i i actually
04:28think this price point is very competitive where would i go buy this we are in 60 locations right now
04:34and we achieved this number in less than one year and so you're in the frozen section and we are in
04:39the frozen section that's a very hard space to get into maintain your sales to stay in there too like
04:46just the the logistics of making sure this never unfreezes for the price point you're doing it is
04:52really difficult but but the frozen section is the largest growth section in grocery today it's a great
05:00category if you do it right because the big kids are very very competitive in terms of buying shelf
05:06space the last 10 months what were your revenues 200 000 we are only in southern ontario so fernando
05:16does the the distribution by himself right now from windsor to kingston fernando you drive these around
05:22yourself you're the distributor yeah when we start we didn't have the event i put a freezer in my truck with
05:27a generator and i say i drive around so far our clients are fitness centers we have this freezer
05:34program where we land the freezer to jujitsu places for example and they are able to provide a pre post
05:42workout snack to to their clients but why didn't you put protein in it oh that's also another one that
05:48we are developing right now we have there with protein we're going to have one with creatine but the
05:53thing that doesn't make any sense to me is that added sugar because the whole point of somebody
05:57especially in a fitness facility whether it is a martial arts studio or a gym the point is to have
06:02something that tastes good that is actually healthy and not just a bunch of added sugar well we'll i just
06:07developed the zero sugar that we will be launched but for now that was our first product because we want
06:14people to understand what is the real taste of the acai right fernando frozen ethnic high protein high
06:25fiber yeah and superfoods this could be a home run for you you need to reformulate and for those
06:32reasons i'm going to be out fernando i'm going to go next and just uh i'm going to say what arlene is
06:39saying there is absolute gold i think it's you go back and you're retool you're too early for an
06:44investor i'm out but i wish you success it does i just can't get past the fact of your your go-to was
06:51added sugar and that's the opposite of uh of what you should be doing with a healthy product so for
06:55those reasons i'm out all right i believe that you guys can bring a lot in and if you guys come in
07:02early that would be we don't want to build businesses from scratch if you got to do the hard
07:08work the dream is free but the hustle is sold separately what we do is come and put fire on it
07:15i'm out i'm not going to sit here and see you guys are not doing the work you guys are doing the work
07:21the fact is you're not ready for an investor yet i'm going to be out thank you west frozen's the
07:27hardest aisle yeah you need to reformulate um and until then i'm going to be out yeah for sure we're
07:34going to take this very seriously i'm going to make some calls right now to to reformulate it
07:40there i can feel that energy in my mind that's good for you is you already got the fight in you
07:44because you wouldn't be in jujitsu if you didn't guys did you hear that he was just like i'm gonna
07:48go call them right now right now like that is a good entrepreneur he's gonna come back in the den i
07:54hope he does come back i hope he does too they're onto something you are asking people and telling
08:01people that it is going to change your physical body do you know the liability and risk in that
08:06there is some liability and risk there's a lot
08:24next up this entrepreneur is ready to share a product she's been holding close to her chest
08:31hello dragons my name is jillian and i'm originally from hamilton ontario
08:36and today i'm looking for 75 000 in exchange for 25 of my company booby grow
08:44you see many years ago i went through a massive weight loss transformation lost over 40 pounds and
08:49with it my breasts went completely with four years of herbal medicine education in california and years
08:54working as a holistic nutritionist i wanted to do something about this that's when i created booby grow
09:00so booby grow is an all-natural program designed to help the look feel and shape of the overall breasts
09:09and i'm so so grateful to have four of just some of the beautiful woman who have had the chance to
09:13benefit from this program after breastfeeding my son i felt sad that i had lost my pre-baby body
09:21especially my breasts and so after taking booby grow for a few months the results were transformational
09:29after the first month i noticed significant fullness changes around the bottom and sides of my breasts and
09:34then at around the four month mark i noticed significant changes in my cleavage which was amazing
09:40i now invite you to have a look at the products beside you
09:46oh so it's a pill supplement it is these are natural things fennel thistle i studied kinesiology
09:54for four years and that's study of the body and so at first i'm thinking i'm like what what are you
09:59pitching because you can't spot focus your fat reduction or or or anything like that so what exactly
10:05is it in here that it's adjusting it is phytoestrogenic in nature meaning that it's helping
10:11to adjust estrogen levels as well as the fats in this blend are really balancing to the overall
10:15hormonal system are there side effects in this yeah so as far as side effects go we've had a couple
10:21of women where they had instances where they were sweating one woman had like a breakout on her chin
10:26jillian that's kind of anecdotal though tell me about the science there is some different
10:31background research into some of the different herbs around increasing the overall weight and density
10:35what i would like to do with the funding is to be able to help support our own clinical research
10:39studies specifically you haven't done any yourself what you have done is created a mix
10:44based on publicly available research correct and is this health canada proof that's what i want to
10:50get it to so you're not i know that there are steps to the process you are asking people and telling
10:58people that it is going to change your physical body do you know the liability and risk in that
11:04there is some liability and risk absolutely there's a lot you need to figure out a way to get some of
11:10that clinical trial and get that designation before you would even step foot into this arena because
11:15anytime i see somebody claiming something but you literally have no research even though that there's
11:19public research on individual ingredients that to me is still sort of big red flags so i'm out on this
11:27with the right funding i would be able to get that clinical research to show hey this blend is but don't you
11:32think you should have done all of that before you brought this to market because it's a mix of
11:36garbage the biggest problem is that when it comes to being able to get to market and get to that level
11:41that i would love to be able to be there manjeet i really would is there's a huge amount of funding
11:45that's needed and that's truly why i'm in front of all of you today i am all for do what's going to
11:50make you feel good in life but i am not for anyone making claims that are health benefit related that do not
11:58have proof behind them i think we can say that guys but i think there's a lot of supplement
12:04companies like you can go to a chinese medicine doctor and they're giving 16 types of herbs it's
12:10not that different it's not that different i'm saying that a lot of entrepreneurs get started and
12:15there is a lot of selling of supplements that are combined to do different things before people can get
12:20to the stage where they're doing research we haven't even talked about sales yet we can get into that
12:25but drew respectfully said i don't even want to know sales numbers i'm out it doesn't make a
12:29difference to me at this point is the selling do you have a market here we've done 13 000 in sales
12:35this year 43 000 in sales the last year and in the last four years 108 000 you probably have pretty low
12:43liability risks you have pretty small sales right now how much do you think is going to take for you
12:48to become like a legitimate supplement with research with research i believe that it's probably going to
12:54take close to 125 000 of which i'm happy to bring forward the money as well don't you think that
13:00your first step would have been to do all of that hard work up front before you launched a product
13:07with what money beg borrow and steal entrepreneurs got to figure out a way that's such a beautiful
13:12thing to say but the challenge is when you're when you have worked for yourself as an entrepreneur
13:16from day one which we all have the access to money is very limited it's not as easy as getting a loan
13:22for a hundred thousand if i could do that i would have already done that i wouldn't even be in front
13:26of you jillian just hold on a second okay i raised four children as a single mom without a job and built
13:35a business do not stand in front of me and tell me that it's too hard to raise money because it's hard
13:43that is absolutely you telling me that you're not an entrepreneur who can figure it out i'm out
13:49jillian i like reading fairy tales not investing in them i'm out
13:58health canada needs to approve this in order for you to take it to market and in order for you to
14:03have confidence that people can put it in their bodies without the massive lawsuit so for that
14:08reason i'm going to be out without any research and without going through the proper health canada
14:14channels i'm out i absolutely agree with all of you that health canada is is the destination and
14:22i'm excited because i know whether it's one of you or it's someone else that i'm going to be able to
14:27figure this out and bring that to market in a really big way you got lots of fight i do you have to think
14:32about how you scale you test the market and how you do that safely and balancing those three things is
14:38never easy and so you're just on that journey but it's too early for an investor now so i'm out
14:47i don't understand pitching something when you have a safety angle let me just mix 10 things
14:52together and see if it works what the heck when you look at the testimonials and hear the women's
14:58feedback you can tell like this is the real deal i know that i can defend these claims
15:02coming up i am so confused now i'm a high school dropout you 3d printed soil correct wow
15:23so entering the den a scientist from toronto hoping the dragons think his soil alternative
15:35is groundbreaking hi hi i'm adnan and i'm not here to bring another indoor farming company to you
15:40excellent well done i'd like you to come join our journey today i'm here to bring a new innovative
15:46disruptive product in exchange for 200 000 for 10 of our company lyrata this is rock wool wall
15:53insulation that is the global standard for grow media soil within indoor farming and hydroponics
15:59it's made using mine rock and energy intensive processes making it almost as polluting as cement
16:05one of the most carbon intensive materials to make we in exchange have created smart soil
16:11a 3d printed grow media that instead of rock is using biopolymers and is fully reusable meaning that
16:18we have cut carbon emissions by up to 65 times than our incumbents we've proven this tech we have three
16:25urban farms in toronto that we have created and have been servicing large clients such as uft and
16:31michelin star restaurants using our smart soil technology wow and today dragons we're here today to
16:37bring this from farms into people's homes sorry my bad and everybody run oh sorry no i want to slow
16:46down here but uh i'd like you to open up your boxes right they're so confused now i'm a high school
16:53dropout you 3d printed soil correct and i think it's essential for us to do a demo to demonstrate the
17:00first indoor growing unit has lettuce planted in rock wool the standard grow media or material plants grow
17:07in instead of soil now how does it feel like yeah brittle yeah right does do you think that we
17:12could uh reuse it no garbage yeah and here we have smart soil oh next adnan's smart soil a reusable low
17:22carbon alternative to rock wool is the material used for the second wall of greens and instead of rock
17:28wool this actually biodegrades its main constituent is a material called polylactic acid so it's completely
17:34natural and uh derived from plant-based materials with a wash the smart soil can be reused for up to a
17:41year it's a little more labor intense than traditional but it's not that crazy like doing this is much
17:47better than that correct yeah so you can head back into your seat thank you so on the left side you'll
17:54see the piece of rock wool and i want to show you the test tube of smart soil that's also there as well
18:00that volume of rock wool we can do the same amount of work with just 10 to 12 of these pellets
18:06adnan where where'd you go to where'd you go to school i went to uft i did my undergrad there and i
18:11actually invented this during my fourth year as a research project there do you know you're looking
18:16at the chancellor i do know do we need to talk anymore do you want to just make an offer now yeah
18:20and so when you say you're 3d printing soil it's you're 3d printing the plastic that the plant is using
18:28to um secure the seeds and grow from okay are you gonna get better produce out of this so we also
18:34have uh proprietary coatings that we put onto it that can actually make it grow faster so you could
18:39add nutrients to it as well like correct yeah we can infuse nutrients we've also received funding to
18:45also get into a bio pesticide project which will be able to coat our soil with very specific compounds
18:52to keep plants much more healthy and really stressful conditions are you are you an entrepreneur
18:58or a scientist i would say both um so i've been running this company for five years now i've raised
19:04more than 1.3 million in capital mainly non-dilutive we plan to take this into market in the consumer
19:10market specifically right now so you haven't sold this to anybody yet we have not sold the soil how much
19:16do you want to charge consumers rock wool or many of the refill plant pods are on the market go for
19:23around two to three dollars per pod okay we want to charge around nine dollars so this is more expensive
19:31this is a better version of this but more expensive ah yeah but that's where the reusability comes into
19:37play so in one year you'd be growing about six heads of lettuce based on the the time it takes to harvest
19:43which means you'd be going through six blocks of rock wool so essentially you're half the price
19:49then you're trying to say correct right can you can you sell this not just to the consumer but also to
19:54the big farms yeah and we've designed our sort of go-to-market strategy in this way where it's
19:59essential for us to get this out to consumers first i'm gonna just push you a little bit about why you
20:04want to go to the consumer when you have a market that would be dying for something that would actually
20:09help them i i mean the end goal is to be able to take a large global share of the market that's
20:15the end goal but the path to get there the strategy is what we're wondering there's different ideas up
20:21here but we're asking what is your plan after doing this business i do know that getting it my product
20:27into my customers hands easily which i can do through the consumer market which is a low-hanging fruit
20:32i'd be able to get essential feedback so so uh adnan first of all you're solving the problem of food
20:37insecurity which is a massive problem uh for the world i don't think you're solving that problem
20:43well you know you can say what you want when it's your turn um so i uh you are you're a smart guy
20:49but your valuation is not very smart but i'm going to offer you uh the two hundred thousand dollars but
20:55i want 33 percent right so but i know that there's going to be follow-on capital that you're going to
21:01need to do this oh yeah and also you're going to need uh my kind of resources especially the additional
21:06resources from the university of toronto it's a great offer it's an offer it's an offer is there any
21:12other dragons who would like to counter offer or have another offer no well maybe just hold on
21:19so adnan i i put it i put an offer on a table right and um you know i'm still waiting i feel
21:26offended here because none of these people put an offer i'll hop in so i again i love the idea of less
21:36waste i mean we put a lot of rockwell in the in our walls for insulation with what we do but i i just
21:40think for me your costs are too high i don't know enough about this area and i think the valuation is a
21:46little off for my liking i'm out i love that you are getting the entrepreneurship side and the science
21:54side i don't think i know enough about the space clearly to be able to properly help so for that
21:59reason i'm out agnan you get an a for innovation and canadian innovation but for me you get an f so
22:07far in execution and strategy i'm out this is the space i live breathe eat every day i'm in the consumer
22:16market i know almost all of the vertical farms i've either looked at investing in them or
22:22examined them or have invested in them my offer would be two hundred thousand dollars for fifteen
22:28percent two hundred thousand fifteen okay wow trying to take the chancellor out from the knees
22:34you can compete there should be a u of t discount
22:42um i don't i don't like to pretend that i'm an expert in things that i don't i don't know as much
22:47about so i'm gonna bow out god i know you're looking over here right now chancellor so i am
22:54gonna take my number down two hundred thousand for twenty percent two hundred thousand arlene's
23:00is technically on paper better than mine but you know what i can bring to you well i've invested
23:07close to 200 million dollars in the space so i think i know the space better than anybody up here does
23:14well dragons i will have to take wes's offer uh mainly because i've been working with uft for a
23:25very long time and do need the resources done right thank you yeah congrats guys looking forward to
23:31working with you okay take care congratulations thank you good luck arlene let me pitch you another
23:36another 3d printed soil up does the u of t tie-in will it help them that much you can't do your
23:42chancellor you can't make happen for him well you'll see
23:57i'm phil i'm brutal i'm anthony i'm rob and we're man-made in season 17 we went on the den
24:05and we were only eight months into our business
24:11thank goodness it wasn't a full monty our first product was the boxer brief then we had socks
24:16t-shirts caps they feel really good michelle actually challenged us on the unit economics
24:2360 average order value what's the product cost on that basket well it's a 25 percent cost the
24:29cog so you might not be making money on your first order here
24:31we knew that we had a lot of uh room to uh correct it and to really go for the economy
24:37as a scale and we had a lot to learn still we mentioned that we had 380 or 400 000 of sales
24:43what do you think you're going to do next year uh 7.2 million 7.2 million what they all were like whoa
24:50oh seven point well not only did we hit it but we doubled it that year and fixed our unit economics
24:58big time dragons then will be forever stamped in the history of man-made wow what a line
25:08what a line this is nice we've known each other since we were little kids and we all knew we had
25:14that entrepreneurial itch and when your back's against the wall and you quit your job you have a
25:18family a mortgage you only have one shot at this when we first started the business it was really
25:23just the four of us since then we've grown to a team of 70. we ship across the country and we have
25:28now over 500 000 customers all from right here in canada one two three let's go
25:38and now with the projections that we have going forward we know that we need a new space that's nice
25:43and big it was really important for us to find something in the montreal garment district and we
25:47did we're going to have certain sections like customer service fulfillment marketing you get the
25:54idea yeah coming into the 20th season and being part of the dragons and alumni honestly means so much
26:00for us because me as kids used to watch it and dream of one day being on there truly blessed to build
26:06this company with my three best friends and especially to bring it to the point where it is right now and
26:12i feel grateful to be doing it with you guys let's build it baby let's build this empire
26:23four middle-aged men bad backs
26:42next in the den when i started dynamic downsizers i actually started following brian scudamore and his
26:52businesses and just to emulate his style let's see if these downsizers can prove that less really is more
27:02hello dragons my name is my company is dynamic downsizers and i'm from markham ontario my name
27:13is laurie willison i'm from paulgrave ontario and i am the operations manager at dynamic downsizers
27:19we are here today to ask for a hundred thousand dollars for ten percent equity in my business
27:24dragons seniors are overwhelmed at the thought of leaving the home that they have lived in for 40
27:32plus years dynamic downsizes are their helping hands we downsize declutter pack move and set up their
27:40new place our dynamic guarantee is to set them up by the end of their moving day now please come on in
27:48ladies as you watch the teamwork what you're seeing is more than just furniture placement imagine your
27:56mother waking up in her home and then at the end of the day arriving at her new retirement suite to open
28:02the door and see her bed is made her toothbrush is in place she is ready for the next chapter
28:09and this is for people moving from their
28:12original primary residence into a home yes exactly now there's lots of full service moving
28:18companies out there that will do the packing the moving the reset up is this unique just that you're
28:24focused strictly on people downsizing and more specifically just seniors the uniqueness really
28:30comes in because we specialize in helping seniors with cognitive impairments dementia uh alzheimer's
28:36we partner with the alzheimer's society we train them in dementia friendly community training as
28:40well as you first training the aging demographic seniors is a massive massive demo and aging in
28:47place is one thing but as you're saying anyway with cognitive decline that needs to move into facility
28:52is absolutely somewhere we've been looking at seeing what we can do to be a part of the solution whereas
28:56our competition may focus more on the physical aspect of the move we focus on the emotional aspect
29:01why did you start this business so for me i started this business um right about the same time that my
29:09father got diagnosed with vascular dementia i'm telling you i feel that my life has kind of went 360
29:16full circle and this is where i was meant to be how long and how much does it take for a typical house
29:21um i don't know three thousand four thousand square foot house like how long and how do you charge
29:27that's not a typical house okay the average four thousand square foot home i get came down from my
29:33own house what do they do with those okay okay okay okay how long and how much so typical package to move
29:41a client into a one-bedroom suite it costs five thousand dollars for packing and complete setup by the
29:48end of the day let's get into numbers a little bit when do you start and what's the numbers like for
29:53example last year the year before so i started this business in november 2018 last year in 2024 my
30:00numbers were 155 000 growth and i doubled that in one year we just finished our year end in february and
30:07i was uh 334 000 and what's your profits on 334 for example my net net was 54 000. so how many vehicles do
30:16you have i just have that vehicle and do you have any like near-term expansion plans oh well i hope by
30:24the end of may that i will have hired a salesperson but i'll be honest with you um i have high school
30:32education so i feel that i need an investor in order to sort of take it to the next level i want to tell
30:40you i've invested in probably 50 founders and some of my best founders only have high school education
30:48right do not underestimate yourself for a second i only have a high school education i only have
30:53a high school education i don't even have i don't even have high school there you go
30:58so never never let that get in the back of your mind that you are not ready or you are not doing it or
31:04you cannot iterate or you cannot build a business i do believe in myself i used to competitively dance
31:09and i'm telling you i can compete do you take it to the next you know unfortunate level because
31:16when when a one of our parents passes away you are dealing with the same issue which but now you're
31:22dealing with grief and you've got all of theirs they're good you know i'm starting to cry
31:30how do you deal with that yeah we take care of everything and we literally leave the house empty
31:35ready for real estate tell me about your growth plan originally when i um started this business
31:42i believed that franchise was the way to go it is so complicated we got out of the moving space
31:47because there was just too much the complexity of going into a big house and trying to estimate how
31:53long it'll take and stuff gets broken no matter how good you are i think anything can be franchised but
31:59i think being in business for five profitable really strong years would be a good foundational move
32:05right before you look at franchising what are you looking to do with the money 100k won't go very
32:10far it won't go very far but really how could i come in here asking for 200 000 you did value the
32:17company in a million dollars it's not worth a million dollars today but i do hope that somebody sitting
32:23here understands that we are worth investing in but we can't value you on a dream and a hope
32:30i think you're going to have people that will come along and look at your your franchise model and
32:35they're going to say well yes i could be here and really you know connect to people emotionally but
32:40in reality my numbers could be a lot better if i streamline i hire movers they're a little bit
32:43cheaper and i can make more margin and you're going to start to lose the quality and for that reason i'm
32:48out okay thank you so listen you guys have identified a niche but you have one vehicle
32:55you know there's going to be a lot more than that that you're going to need to be able to expand this
33:00into different markets so i'm going to be out because it's just just too small right now
33:07your presentation was flawless except the part how you make money and how i make money i'm out
33:14this night my mother went through all this so that's that's why i was feeling emotional before
33:20because i understand exactly the pain that you're talking about and how hard it is to move them into
33:26a senior's residence but i feel like your business model is wrong and i i don't know what the business
33:32model is it's kind of it is cumbersome i'm sorry but i'm going to be out i'm with arlene here like
33:40leanne i would trust you with my family i think you understand the mindset and the business right
33:47how you monetize this and how you scale this is very very difficult i'm out
33:55brian okay then there was one yeah i've spent a lot of time thinking about the space right like years
34:02and years and years going there is a need i think it's up to you to sort of figure out exactly how to
34:08make this model work and when you do i do want to talk about franchising okay but for this at this
34:15point right now i'm out well i'm gonna put a lot of thought into that one and then give you a call
34:20keep the passion oh we we will we'll keep the passion there is a business here though
34:26and they're not they're not the ones confused we've had so many brilliant minds there's a problem
34:30here i don't know if there's a problem i don't know there's not a solution yet
34:39our leader oh my gosh do we need to call an ambulance
34:44well if you wanted to see dragons breathe fire you just helped us with that
34:56last in the den feel like i'm about to have a heart attack but it's okay
35:04an excited entrepreneur from toronto hoping her hot product will have the dragons breathing fire
35:11hi dragons welcome to root mama the home of authentic vietnamese hot sauce that handcraft in canada
35:17using canadian ingredients my name is vian wing i come here asking for 130 000 in exchange of 10 of our
35:24equity so without further ado let me introduce you to the family of root mama whoa whoa hmm so the
35:33original one is the rootest of the house she made me cry the first time i tried her um for the fruity
35:40flavor we use the same base we just add fruit inside so in the way they're carrying on the same dna
35:46which make the original one the mom of the house and me is the grandma of the brand
35:51our mango is our firstborn she's the best seller one she just a diva and the pineapple one is our
35:59middle child very sweet but also have a really uh short temper she hit you the first when you try her
36:06um we assume it's just for attention grabbing um and our passion food one is the youngest one
36:13she's a little bit western night so she's apparently night with cheese like a piece of steak so with
36:19that further then you can welcome this right on wonderful the four flavors come in two sizes and
36:25are available online and in stores across ontario oh that's rude mama i ruined why it is that was
36:34saying to make the pineapple spicy the sauces retail for ten dollars per small jar and 15 for the large
36:42wait the original didn't taste oh no there it comes oh yeah oh it's spicy all right really good
36:46guys the pineapple punches you in the face right away right away takes a minute and then five
36:51seconds later punches you in the throat come on if you can't take the heat see me crying my wife loves
36:57spice and she's always trying to like trick me into a bit more yeah but this would do the trick
37:02because just like you said it doesn't aside from the pineapple it hit me right away the mango and the
37:07passion fruit i can taste the flavor and it makes me want to come back oh my gosh do we need to call
37:12an ambulance it's been a while hasn't it well if you wanted to see dragons breathe fire you just
37:18helped us this is it guys everyone's you're lightweight i love this i love this i would eat
37:24this every night on my food i i would have fed this to some of my exes
37:27try this honey what's your passion for hot sauce i fell in love immediately with the um the traditional
37:38recipe when i when i try it and when i came to canada um i couldn't find anything alike and uh it's in
37:45stores now right it's in stores in uh over 70 stores now 70 stores wow and what are your sales last year
37:54with 120 and then this year we forecast at 300 on 120 000 how much did you gross in that no last year
38:03we we lost 100. that the reason behind that is we have two channels that we have to invest at once
38:10with this retail and e-commerce to catch up with demand what was the hustle that you put in to get you
38:16there so i started the business from scratch i don't have family here i started business with uh with 30
38:22000 where'd you get that from my whole savings and your entire life savings entire life saving yeah so
38:30back in vietnam i have a um a university degree of finance and banking and then uh and then when i
38:36came to canada my experience doesn't transfer so i start working in the um in the restaurant as a chef
38:43i i i have school i have three part-time jobs at a time three part-time jobs oh my goodness you're
38:52hustling in like the best ways possible i love it yeah and to talk to tell us about the name rude mama
38:58i love the name i love it too so on the funny note rude mama when people ask me like if i'm the
39:05room mama i get to tell them that i'm only rude when i'm hungry those rude honestly and 24 7 no break
39:13yeah but then on a deeper note um i don't have a supportive family and then growing up if i
39:19if i dare to have a dream i get called paranoia if i am there to speak my mind i get called rude and
39:26manner and if i get i dare to talk back i get a straight slap in the face so i lean on to the image
39:33of strong independent woman that from my boss from my teacher from my best friend and those um
39:40the one that shaped my upbringing i love that story because i love how you're making those two
39:46words rude mama mean something totally different powerful yeah empowering how does your family at
39:52home feel about you and the business success you've had i don't i haven't told them about that you haven't
39:57told your family about any of this yeah i am it's a long history of trauma and so i cut connection with
40:05them oh i'm sorry sorry no way it happens but then it built me stronger my dream today is to lay a
40:15strong foundation for for root mama and legacy give yeah prosperity for for canada which is a country i
40:23own so much too well behaved women rarely make history and every part of the rude mama brand and
40:30what that embodies for you i think is like an amazing story an amazing mission i can't imagine
40:37what you've gone through to get to this point i think for me the space is very competitive and i just
40:43can't give you the help you need so i'm going to be out but i'm going to be cheering you on no way thank you
40:49i love this story and i love you i think this isn't a space i have a lot of experience in i think
40:53um especially being at a loss still right now i know you're on a trajectory and a path that will
40:59will turn to profit but i just don't think there's as much i can offer as they can i'm out okay i'll go
41:06um i you're you are a survivor you really are from an investment perspective you're way too early for me
41:14and i think the space is very crowded and difficult and i wish you well but i'm going to be out
41:19no way thank you so much uh i too am rude when i am hungry i think my fellow dragons she's not hungry
41:27i love it yeah like you figured this out and you haven't had the easiest path which is actually
41:33amazing in so many ways because it shows your resilience you're still smiling through all of
41:37this not only the questions but telling your story like it's incredible and i am willing to back a
41:43founder like you i'll offer you 150 000 for 15 percent 150 000 for 15 percent is there any other
41:53offer into them i'll go yeah i i love you you're funny your story of how you started with your life
42:01savings that's how i started my business but i can't compete with manjeet she can turn up the heat
42:06on this business and and really partner with you i'm out you know uh phila there's a there's a lot of
42:12people going through what you've gone through and they're embarrassed to tell their stories yeah but
42:18it's not the end of you i need for you to keep telling that story and um i'm gonna be out but keep
42:24at it thank you manjeet we gotta do can i do a money shot with the money money shot i love her
