00:00Country music icon Garth Brooks will be performing at President-elect Joe Biden
00:04and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris' inauguration on January 20th.
00:09The Presidential Inaugural Committee announced the news that the country music legend
00:12will perform at the swearing-in ceremony at the U.S. Capitol Building on Wednesday,
00:17with Brooks adding a statement of his own, saying,
00:19This is a great day in our household. This is not a political statement.
00:23This is a statement of unity. This is history, and it's an honor to get to serve.
00:27Brooks says he was asked to perform by Dr. Jill Biden last week
00:31and made the decision to do so on Sunday night.
00:33The singer will be part of the official swearing-in ceremony at the U.S. Capitol
00:37and not the concert or parade programming slated for later in the day on Wednesday.
00:41Brooks will join Lady Gaga and Jennifer Lopez,
00:43who are also slated to perform at the actual inauguration ceremonies.
00:47The singer continued in a statement, saying,
00:49We are more divided than ever.
00:51That bridge that brings us together, it is reaching across, loving one another,
00:55because that is what is going to get us through the most divided times that we have.
00:59Brooks added that he has performed for every president since Jimmy Carter,
01:02with the exception of Ronald Reagan.
01:04He had also performed at Barack Obama's inauguration in 2008,
01:08and was asked to do so at President Trump's inauguration in 2016,
01:12but was unable to appear due to a prior concert commitment.
01:15He concluded, saying,
01:16And added that he wants his attendees of his concerts leaving the show
01:25loving each other more than the way they came in.
