Greens leader urges Chancellor to 'tax the rich' in stunt ahead of Budget

Zack Polanski, leader of the Green Party, organised a stunt in Westminster on Tuesday morning to urge Rachel Reeves to "tax the rich" ahead of the Budget.  The stunt took aim at Ms Reeves' wealth tax, which features a campaigner dressed in a papier mache head of the Chancellor.

00:22The government keeps saying they're making tough choices.

00:25They're always tough choices for working class communities, for migrants, for disabled people.

00:30We're here today to say let's make some tough choices for multimillionaires and billionaires.

00:35It's time to tax for rich.

00:36I want to see capital gains tax brought in line with income tax.

00:40Right now we are taxing earned income more than we tax unearned wealth.

00:43It's only right that we tax wealth, not work.

00:46We could also be putting national insurance on investment income.

00:49Right now if you're a landlord and you've paid off your mortgage,

00:52you could be paying less tax than the struggling renter who's renting off you.

00:56Again, none of these things are natural.

00:57They're all the result of political choices.

00:59We can make different political choices.
