00:00G'day battlers.
00:03We see you out there doing everything you can for your family and friends.
00:07And we see where you've been living.
00:10That kitchen's had nothing done to it since World War II.
00:14We know times are tough.
00:16For too many hard-working Aussies, it means putting your dream home on hold.
00:20I had plans for it but it just never happened.
00:23And that's where we come in.
00:27We are back.
00:29Hey Norm, over.
00:30Any drive-threes in virtue, over.
00:32Bigger than ever.
00:33More battlers.
00:34More, more, more!
00:36More renovations.
00:38And more money.
00:40There's no more money, Norm.
00:44We are rolling up our sleeves to prove that big transformations don't need big bucks.
00:49I got her on Facebook Marketplace. She wanted $250, got her down $200.
00:54We've got just five days and $10,000.
00:58We're nice aren't just for the rich.
01:01To give deserving Aussies a home.
01:03Look!
01:04Spies!
01:05Oh!
01:09This is beautiful.
01:10That they can be proud of.
01:14Thank you so much.
01:15No way!
01:16You've got to make me comfortable for the rest of my law.
01:19This is Budget Battlers.
01:20Oh no, we're crying already and we haven't even said anything.
01:25Tonight, the Budget Battler team tackle inside.
01:29Eight people living in this house with one shield.
01:32Outside.
01:33Hey buddy!
01:34What's happening?
01:35A shed.
01:36A caravan.
01:37Hi!
01:38Nice!
01:39How beautiful!
01:40In a makeover that makes a family smile again.
01:44Thank you so much.
01:45This is Budget Battlers.
01:46This is Dave and Jen.
02:00I've been married to this lovely lady for 38 years.
02:01She bought me a drink at the club.
02:02Yeah.
02:03I picked him up.
02:04Yeah, she picked me up and I was a local footballer and so it'd be.
02:05I never went home.
02:06That's about right.
02:07That's about right, yeah.
02:08That's about right.
02:09That's about right.
02:10Yeah.
02:11That's about right.
02:12Yeah.
02:13I picked him up.
02:14Yeah, she picked me up and I was a local footballer and so it'd be.
02:18I never went home.
02:20That's about right.
02:21Yeah.
02:22That's about right.
02:23Yeah.
02:24And from that one drink at the local club, galore and milk I believe, this is what they've
02:30created.
02:31This is the Trotter family.
02:33Dave and Jen, their two sons Jake and Josh.
02:37Their partners and their two grandkids with another on the way.
02:42Our kids have lived with us all our time.
02:45They've brought their partners in and now we've got our grandkids.
02:49They've got their own spaces and we've got our space.
02:52But having all your family together to me is number one.
02:58They all live together on a property on Jones Island, just out of Taree on the Manning River
03:04in New South Wales.
03:05When we bought this place we fell in love with it, didn't we?
03:08Yeah.
03:09We bought this a bit over two years ago and because it's on the river it was awesome.
03:14These guys are just crazy bad fishermen.
03:17Every afternoon Josh and Levi, who's the six year old grandson, he would take him down the
03:23back to the river and they'd fish and David would tag along as well, which was pretty cool.
03:26With my son, my grandson.
03:27Yeah.
03:28It was pretty cool.
03:29Living the green basically.
03:30Yeah.
03:31In March this year, it started raining and it didn't stop.
03:38We had three days of constant rain.
03:41When there's rain on the coast and in the catchment areas, it's all got to come down.
03:45It can't go anywhere.
03:46So we just went up rather than out to sea.
03:50So yeah, it was just basically a perfect storm.
03:53Not perfect for us.
03:54Not perfect for us.
03:55No, it was a tragedy for us.
03:57Yeah.
03:58But as in flood wise, yeah, it was a perfect storm.
04:03Taree, which is around three and a half hours north of Sydney, is right now experiencing
04:08its worst flooding event on record.
04:10The Manning River at Taree has now reached levels never seen before Ali since those records
04:15began back in 1929.
04:17This flood emergency, particularly in that region, is now proving to be even worse than
04:21those record breaking floods that we saw back in 2021.
04:25The floods are the most surreal things you've ever dealt with.
04:30The water just comes up and you think, all of a sudden you've got nowhere to get out.
04:35You know?
04:36So then it's just like, we've got to get out ourselves.
04:39So we're lucky we had a couple of boats.
04:42Josh, our youngest, he's waded like up in chest deep water to come over and get a boat.
04:49It's a small tinny so he can get it close to the house.
04:52You know, there's six adults, two young kids, four dogs.
04:57And we couldn't leave anyone, so.
04:59We climbed over the veranda of the house.
05:01Yeah, just climbed over the veranda.
05:02To actually get into the little boat.
05:03Yeah.
05:04How high it was.
05:05Seeing the river the way it was, and the cattle, and Merwin and Karen on sort of thing
05:10going down the river and you knew they didn't have a chance.
05:13Yeah.
05:14Yeah.
05:15It was heartbreaking.
05:16Oh, it was very heartbreaking.
05:17Yeah.
05:18It was just like a, nearly a nightmare, but you know, it happened.
05:22The flood couldn't have come at a worse time for Dave and his family.
05:28My father passed two weeks before the flood, which was a really bad way to go into the flood.
05:37And I was still trying to grieve and the flood didn't come at a good time.
05:43We still hadn't organised anything for him.
05:46Yeah, Liz and my dad was pretty hot.
05:50It was still pretty hot.
05:53We lost basically everything in the house, everything that was touching the ground.
05:59So all of our appliances, we lost our lounges, beds.
06:05All my power tools, everything, all my hand tools, everything like that.
06:09I just, yeah, it's either just mud affected, floated away.
06:13The family are known in the community for always helping out others.
06:17And now it's their turn.
06:19We don't feel that we deserve it.
06:22It's like, it's hard to think that people want to do this.
06:25That's right.
06:26It's just, yeah, it's hard for us to take.
06:28We're usually, we've always done everything for ourselves.
06:30We don't like to ask for help.
06:31No, don't ask.
06:32No, we don't ask for help.
06:33People usually ask us for help.
06:36Well, here on Budget Battlers, we like to help the ones who never ask for it.
06:41Coming up from the river this time, it's not flood water and fear.
06:45It's the Budget Battler Group.
06:47Here to help and rebuild a home and a family so they can get back to what they do best,
06:52being together and casting a line or two.
06:55Can't put it into words.
06:57No.
06:58Like, what it means to us.
07:00Yeah.
07:01You know, like having people like yourselves and that to come and help.
07:09To do this.
07:10Yeah.
07:11Darling people, what you give back to everyone else is just out of this world.
07:18We are so privileged to be here today because what you've been through and what you've seen in the last couple of months,
07:24I don't know how you're still standing, being selfless and still being kind.
07:28And that's what being a battler is all about, is it's giving back in your lowest of times and not thinking about yourself.
07:34And sometimes that's got to come back to you.
07:37I'm sure you've been asked a million and one times.
07:40But are you okay?
07:42Yeah.
07:43We're okay.
07:44Sort of battlers safe.
07:45Yeah.
07:46Keep soldiering on.
07:48We're doing it together.
07:49Yeah.
07:50Thank you for doing what you do for people in the community.
07:53And when the lowest was low, you're out there helping everybody else.
07:56And so we would like to let you know what it feels like to have people like you as friends and take over from your role and do something for you guys for the next five days.
08:09We may not have the biggest budgets, but these guys here, I've seen them in action and I've seen what they've done to people's lives.
08:17And they have the biggest bloody hearts and that's something that you can't buy at a shop.
08:21We're hoping that you come in in five days' time and actually see the love that's gone into this joint.
08:27Not just from us, but everyone around this area and this community.
08:31So we're looking forward to hooking in and finishing off what you've already started.
08:39We really appreciate it.
08:40Oh, you can't believe you're doing it for us.
08:42No.
08:44So would you mind?
08:45We would love you to come.
08:46You beauty!
08:51Unbelievable.
08:52Unbelievable to have people turn up that we don't know to do this sort of stuff.
08:57Yes.
08:58Isn't it?
08:59Yep.
09:00It's unreal.
09:01Very grateful.
09:02Very, very grateful.
09:03This doesn't sound very glamorous, but it's a budget battle away, but I've booked you an Airbnb in town.
09:09Loving it.
09:11I know it's not SeaWorld Resort, but if you do want to go to SeaWorld Resort or something, I'll just say, I've got a credit card.
09:17It's 55 days interest-free.
09:18I'll get it done.
09:19We've seen enough water.
09:20We've seen enough water.
09:21Oh, my God!
09:22Oh, my God!
09:26No more water.
09:27Oh, my God!
09:28Oh, my God!
09:29Oh, my God!
09:38This week on Budget Battlers, we're in Jones Island, just out of Taree.
09:43Six months ago, floods ripped through this place.
09:48Taree is right now experiencing its worst flooding event on record.
09:53Destroying everything in its path, including the home of Dave and Jen.
09:58The local community have done a lot to start up the clean-up process.
10:03But we're here to finish it off and help them get their livelihood back.
10:07You can feel when people are hurting, and we're in a beautiful position where we can do something to make them feel better.
10:15Our mates at Storage King are once again on board, helping our homeowners stash away what little they've got left while we give this place the full makeover it deserves.
10:26Here's the plan.
10:27We want to clean up all the remaining mud and debris and give every room and space to spruce up.
10:32But the areas that will have the main focus are the front yard, which is the first thing you see when you drive up, the bathroom, and the one which is going to put a smile back on Dave's face, the shed.
10:44In the front yard, we're going to clear out the garden beds, add a fence and some turf.
10:48In the bathroom, we're going to make it way bigger, add a shower and fancy it up with a feature wall.
10:53And in Dave's shed, we're going to remove all the mud so you can hopefully see the floor again, concrete the entrance so it's more accessible for him, and put in some seating and a bar so the family have an extra area to hang out.
11:06Here's the budget so far.
11:08The main focus has been adding some space and a shower to the bathroom inside, so I've allocated $3,000 for that.
11:14And the kitchen cupboard flat packs have come in at $1,500.
11:18Norm loves flat packs.
11:19He'll be stoked.
11:20Add $400 from Kennards to get some high-pressure washers, and we're just under 5k.
11:25But it's early days, and it's a big job.
11:28This whole thing's coming out and going over there.
11:46Lee and I are kicking things off inside the house.
11:51Luckily, a lot of flooring's already been replaced since the floods.
11:55That's one less job for us.
11:58The kitchen cupboards need to be replaced with something fresh.
12:02We'll be replacing wardrobes and interior doors and giving the whole house a lick of paint.
12:07But first things first, we've got to start the demo on the bathroom.
12:13We've got less than five days to get it all done, so no mucking around.
12:19Eight people living in this house with one shower.
12:23Eight bums to wash per day if you average it out at one wash per day.
12:28I never really thought of it like that.
12:32Yeah, it's good timing because they're all rotten and wet, so perfect time to be wearing it.
12:37Given the scale of the renovation, I reached out to our investment mentor Lachlan Vidla for some expert advice
12:45to make sure every dollar's being spent in the right place.
12:48Look, here he comes now in his flash car.
12:51Hope he doesn't get bogged.
12:53I wasn't sure who it was, but then I realised that the car was far shinier, more expensive and far more valuable than anything else.
13:09I said, oh yeah, the value guys here.
13:11It's kind of like when the skit bin arrives, you know who it is as soon as they get there.
13:14You don't just drive a Porsche into budget battlers, like what happened to the old Miss Navarra style?
13:29Well, you'd have to hire a Miss Navarra to hide the Porsche.
13:37Yes.
13:39Ah, excuse me mate.
13:40Can I help you?
13:41I wanted to write you a ticket.
13:43For what?
13:45For you to show off.
13:46No, you earned it.
13:47Good yields.
13:48Come on.
13:49It's not budget battlers anymore.
13:50He wanted to give it to you.
13:51Ooh.
13:52No, he doesn't because he heard what you said about his poor.
13:53I was going to change my opinion there for a second.
13:54I know.
13:55This is the bathroom here that we're going to add to the house because obviously six people in the house.
14:11Yeah.
14:12One shower.
14:13Tell us the value add in this.
14:14Like I, I reckon this is like a no brainer.
14:16Of course it's a value add.
14:17It is so common that when you go and see a house, you've got a full bathroom, but then you have the half, which is usually just a toilet.
14:24Exactly like what's here.
14:25But it's, it can be really hard from a floor plan point of view to make it bigger to be able to turn into a full bathroom.
14:31Yeah.
14:32But with a bit of strategy here and probably a bit of good luck as well, we can obviously extend it out.
14:37And now you take it from a one, one and a half bathroom house to two.
14:41And the value that comes from that is literally unbelievable.
14:45So if you even wanted to buy a house, right?
14:47Yeah.
14:48To flip.
14:49Yeah.
14:50If you just purely did the floors.
14:52Yeah.
14:53And did this to the bathroom.
14:54Yeah.
14:55Would you be making money?
14:56100%.
14:57Yeah, right.
14:58100%.
14:59Because you put all of our time and effort into this and that and this, this is literally what you could do.
15:02Yeah.
15:03And it's that simple, right?
15:04You've got to know what you're doing.
15:05But it's that simple.
15:06He's just handy to have.
15:08And he's already got the runs on the board too.
15:10He's not just a yes guy.
15:12He's got a Porsche guy.
15:13So you know that he's going to make the right decision.
15:15Do you own your Porsche outright?
15:17Of course, Jess.
15:18Of course.
15:19Hey, Lee.
15:21Bucks.
15:22Lords.
15:23Darlsons have dropped the gear off.
15:24We're on to go.
15:25Oh.
15:26Haha.
15:27Yeah.
15:28Lift up.
15:33The amount of mud and rubbish even six months on is hard to believe.
15:43Hey, buddy.
15:44What's happening?
15:45Um, we're going to redo this whole shed.
15:47Okay.
15:48What are you going to do?
15:49The encade it.
15:50Well, he likes to sit in here.
15:52So.
15:53And he's just struggling to clean it up.
15:56Yeah.
15:57I totally understand that.
15:58This is where we can actually make the most amount of impact.
16:01Because.
16:02It's not a flash, we know.
16:04We do this to lift spirits.
16:06So.
16:07Uh.
16:08I'm just going to scrub it up.
16:10Organise it.
16:11So that the next time he sits in here.
16:13He's in a place where he can progress.
16:15Not have to work out what he needs to do.
16:17In order to get up to where he was before.
16:19This is where he spends the most amount of time.
16:21Yeah.
16:22And that you can tell that he's really struggling.
16:23We're just trying to get him.
16:24Like.
16:25Get him out of it.
16:26Yeah.
16:27And I'll say all your tools are boxed here.
16:28He can pick a shelf and start putting them back out.
16:31Yeah.
16:32Wherever he wants.
16:33It's not about materialistic things.
16:35It's so much deeper than that.
16:36It's a whole bunch of strangers going.
16:38G'day mate.
16:39I've never met you before.
16:40But I bet.
16:42That we can get you in a good spot.
16:44So.
16:45Wherever you go to a house.
16:46You're just like.
16:47Let's have a crack at that.
16:48Worst comes to worst.
16:49It's going to have a cleaner shed.
16:50Unit.
16:51Strength.
16:52Never mind.
16:55Yeah.
16:56Thanks.
16:57Yeah, we have.
16:58Bliss
17:05Yeah.
17:06This is great.
17:07Now.
17:08Thanks, everyone.
17:09Myles are home.
17:10I think.
17:11That's awesome.
17:14OK.
17:15We're here in Jones Island just out of Tarbury, a community that's copped some of the worst
17:27floods on record.
17:29We got to the front gate and it was just mud all the way in.
17:38This week we're lending a hand to the Trotter family, helping them get back on their feet.
17:42We decided to go a separate little tiny house that we've got here.
17:47So yeah, that's us.
17:49Living on top of each other gets a little bit much, but with a bit of space, it works
17:53in harmony.
17:54Three months before the flood, we just moved in and we were still paying off the credit
17:58card for the first fit out.
18:00So unexpectedly to try and do it all again, it was...
18:07Drain the savings.
18:08Yeah.
18:09Everything we had.
18:10Yep.
18:11Do what you're going to do.
18:13They've always been the first to help everyone else in town, and now it's their turn to get
18:17a bit of that kindness back.
18:18You've got to watch her, not under that.
18:28There was a deck that was on the front of the tiny home.
18:30Swing this way a bit.
18:32And that washed away a little bit.
18:37Lots of mungo got into that this morning and got it all ready and we lifted that back
18:41onto the front of the tiny home.
18:42Tiny home.
18:43Righto.
18:44Lifted.
18:45Good job.
18:46Look, no heads.
18:47Come around.
18:48Just watch that stump under your foot coming around.
18:50What are you doing, Lawrence?
18:51I'm organizing, mate.
18:52Go in.
18:53Go in.
18:54That's it.
18:55That's it.
18:56Beautiful.
18:57Love your work.
18:58What's he?
18:59You got your shirt off, buddy.
19:00Yeah, I didn't want it to smell, Jess.
19:02I was digging these holes.
19:03I was going to be sweating.
19:04Your scars, mate.
19:05What happened?
19:06This one?
19:07Your scratch, yeah.
19:08It was a crocodile.
19:09What?
19:10A crocodile.
19:11I was up in Darwin and I was in a caravan park and I was grabbing me rod gun to go fishing
19:17and my next story actually warned me.
19:20He said, don't go down there.
19:22Sorry.
19:23That was a really good story.
19:24a crocodile i was up and going and i was in a caravan park and i was grabbing me rod going
19:30to go fishing and my next story actually warned me he said don't go down there sorry that was a
19:36really good story he said don't go down there mate there's crocs it's the beach mate tossed
19:43my wine and all of a sudden i seen it come up and it was front claw just grabbed me and i ran like
19:51shit providing ladies around australia would one of the most delicious tv moments that is going to
19:59cross their eyes in a long time before you met a guy called lords with a tiger tattoo on his back
20:04telling us how he got bitten by a crocodile while digging a hole what he did not get bitten by a
20:10crocodile don't be jealous just because you get upset when you pluck your eyebrows
20:15oh are you kidding he does he carries on like a pork chop god the bitter man get bitten by a crocodile
20:21and then dig a hole oh you just taped it up and it's all good that's why it's all scarred like that
20:27yeah it's all right i'm glad you're on our team i was going to get the um try to as a washer and dryer
20:33but then when i saw lords abs i was just like i'll just wash with their bloody underpants on that
20:38yeah old school style got some suds
20:51hey lee have you got a snack yeah yeah sure well i've noticed some moles around the home especially
20:57in the bathroom that you working on right now and i've got some products that might be able to help
21:01with that that is great you brought that up because it's such an issue like after flooding water it is
21:07just it comes out everywhere so we've got quite a lot of areas that we need some sort of product
21:13that'll help we've got some really great sprays that can do that um for us so the mold sprays you
21:20spray it on let it sit for a while and then come back and remove it and then we've also got some
21:25really great little buckets here then what you do is you just take the plastic off this you pop this
21:31lid back on and you just let it sit and what happens is it helps to prevent mold for me
21:37cool that is that is exactly what we've been looking for
21:43budget battlers is about community and people coming together to help out other people
21:48especially those that are battling
21:49how are you you are not going to believe what we have done for you humankind um today rocked in uh
22:09with a beautiful beautiful caravan so we know that brooke she's having a baby yeah so humankind have got in
22:18touch with noel here g'day no through facebook marketplace oh god you meet the best people
22:24through facebook marketplace real people yeah and he has provided this i'm just so proud of them like
22:32they've got the budget about the spirit are you tarree local yeah yeah um they've been doing it bloody
22:37tough here aren't they oh 100 percent you just don't realize the impact until you go through it
22:44yourself yeah you know and um you know but we have a great community you know when things get tough
22:50everybody blinks their arms together and helps everybody and and the town just come back together
22:57so fast we can budget battle it you uh thank you do you want to check it out yes don't have a look
23:04inside doing up caravans is my dream so how good now i've got a caravan to renovate whoo and a shed and
23:10out and lawn and some concrete in what's it like oh here's dave holy smokes it would have been a rough
23:21ride no you took those corners a little hard mate sorry mate sorry turns and conditions of flight dave
23:26didn't really jump out of the caravan we just went in there so that we could get surprised when he
23:31arrived so don't bother calling the cops like that'll come out easy that's coming out very easy oh my gosh
23:38gosh all right there it goes yeah that's so i love it the people that really are going to be
23:45doing a bit tough is brook and husband and the newborn baby which is coming in a couple of weeks
23:50so this space is going to have a lovely couch a telly an aircon a place for them to sleep and a place
23:57for the baby to sleep so that they've at least got their little spots and i just think that's so
24:02important i reckon diamonds are a girl's best friend give me a caravan that looks a little bit dreary
24:07on the inside that's got full of potential that's actually my sweet spot
24:28we've got a fair bit to go but i think we'll get there by the start hopefully and what made you want
24:31to come down here today oh we're just trying to help out with what we can and we've seen the show
24:36and stuff like that we agree with what you guys are doing i love it you're a legend
24:44now it's my turn to go shopping i've headed down to beaumont tiles to sort out the tiles for this
24:49bathroom look i'm a bit of a regular when it comes to the shopping scene like the styling side you can
24:55just ask jess that she does say that i have quite the the ability to pick out a product that we need
25:01for the house that's a lie i'm terrible at this so what i do is i ring someone i know like me old
25:07mate daz from beaumont's and i just go down and see him and he just picks it all out for me
25:13i go back to site everyone thinks i've picked it i look like the key
25:17hey it does i'm good norm how are you going well mate what's happening oh you know working hard
25:21how about you guys well we've got a bit going on at the moment okay so we're doing a house in tari
25:26yep being completely flood damaged after all the floods i had there a few months ago it's a family
25:31of six adults two children the problem is there's only one shower in the main house we want to open
25:37up one bathroom that's technically just a toilet and basin okay yeah yeah we want to put another
25:43shower in there okay cool so we need some tiles brother easy no problems let's head over to our
25:48bt max range and have a look at some options beautiful beautiful now i'm thinking because
25:53we've got a family of six adults two kids yep i think we should go probably for a darker floor
25:59hides a bit more of the dirt yeah yeah yeah so i'm thinking we will use omni stone omni form charcoal
26:06yep from the range it is a textured tile so it is non-slip great right so for the kids it will help
26:11reduce sleep factors when they're in the bathroom yep and then i will pair that with just a simple
26:17gloss white walter it's going to create more openness in the bathroom because of the gloss
26:24yep so the bathroom will feel bigger than it actually yeah right it's good because it's not
26:27a huge huge width in this bathroom and remember too bigger the tile less grout lines yep so it'll
26:33also make the space feel bigger yeah beautiful all right let's lock it in beautiful love your work
26:37mate done yeah i think it's going to make a massive difference to this family they're just using one
26:43shower in the main part of the house and there's four adults one one kid and like they're fighting
26:48over the shower every day if we can extend that other bathroom out and put another shower in there
26:53they're going to have a shower or toilet vanity two people can use that one two people can use the
26:58other one so everyone's going to get a shower and they'll have the hot water systems going and
27:03everything will be right everyone will have hot water and can share all day long
27:15are you okay was it a whirli there goes there who's him a curly whirly seconded healthy life
27:23where is the healthy life tip oh my god this is the most dramatic night of the series oh my god
27:43they come around the corner and then rolled rod rod and then just look up that's bizarre
27:49and twister was on telly last night i watched a bit about
28:03the budget bettlers team are in jones island new south ales helping out a local family whose home
28:08was hit hard by the floods let's see how the cash spend is going the budget is still on track thanks
28:15to all the incredible donations we've received including excavation gear donated by family members
28:20but we've added fifteen hundred dollars for paint for indoor and out including the deluxe reno range
28:26for the kitchen cabinet hide some gear from kennards and eight hundred dollars for extra tools and timber
28:32total spend so far seventy two hundred dollars
28:50by far one of the sweetest people on side of the girls at healthy life but for some reason mother nature
28:55chucked the healthy life tent up and put it upside down in a bloody tree
28:58oh my gosh yeah i'm gonna get a few breaches out of here first our tent was completely gone
29:11a mini cyclone came through and it blew it up into the tree which upside down might i add
29:19absolutely i'm still skeptical if that was the wind or if it was the boys
29:23things open outside i don't know all right girls there's your tent back thank you thanks guys thank
29:29you oh no
29:36obviously you didn't have it weighed down did you have a look at that i don't think it would have
29:40mattered last night what you had on it actually it was it was going one way or another hello happy
29:45healthy walk all right see you norm if you're having one of those days where the reno's gone sideways and
29:52your tents ended up in a tree and you can't get to the doctor don't stress our mates at healthy life
29:57have got you covered i'm an idiot because i left some of my medication at home anyway i've jumped
30:02onto healthy life's uh telehealth service to get my prescription filled and they deliver anywhere in
30:08australia for free so i don't even have to lose sight not going to lose time it's bloody handy having
30:13mates with a telehealth service isn't it hello yeah i've left my prescription at home and i was just
30:19wondering if you'd be able to help me just get a new prescription because i'll be here for a couple
30:24of days that's how easy it is
30:54we love all of our mates on the budget butler team and one of them used to be a real housewife
31:03a sophie star even 90s pop royalty but to me she's just the fanciest person i know with a heart of gold
31:10mel what a ripper i am no expert i just go off what i think looks nice and what i think looks good
31:17um and yeah you just you just gotta kind of wing it really there's a beautiful story about this wooden
31:26table that they had in the lounge room it was something that survived the flood um so they
31:32really wanted to keep that um which is amazing so i've tried to go off those colors so you don't
31:39introduce another color into the house we want the family to come in and just be blown away and just
31:49love their space still make it feel like it is their space but just add a bit of the budget battler
31:58you know slaver mongering lords are the ultimate budget battler warriors they made the fence out of
32:08pine and pallets that they found around the place which cost nothing what a bunch of legends do you
32:14know how much they spent to the week under a hundred dollars you and lords are just resource grabbers
32:22like you look around see what you've got you just someone else might cause tight people no you're
32:27smart i bloody love you push i was a tight person when it's go time they've got two objectives to
32:35bring people home make sure that they're happy but also not to break the bank because they know that
32:40every cent that they spend is going to take away money from the next house we go for it
32:52so there's going to be a concrete path from the road up until the shed they're reconcreting a little
33:01bit of it then inside the shed we're going to get dave's harley davidson back from the marina
33:06we're going to put it on like its own little dance floor it's going to be unreal
33:15i've got a trailer load of stuff that the tari men's shed gave to me a while back to help all of
33:20the flood victims and it's tools power tools hand tools nails hammers you guys are doing that shed
33:28and i'm sure there's probably stuff in that trailer yeah that you guys can simply yeah can we have a
33:33look yeah absolutely all right let's go it's random i'd been watching their show a few weeks ago and saw
33:40this post and i thought it's a sign i've got this trailer load of stuff they need help i saw how bad it
33:46was here and so i just turned up ho ho ho oh my god there's almost everything that you can think of
33:54it's just oh yeah so janine just a random just popped in with the trailer on absolutely chocolate
34:02block four tools nice the tari men's shed donated all this stuff to her and she's just going around
34:09offering whatever's in that trailer if you need it you take it if you don't want it so be it i'll take it
34:15off to the next door beautiful i'm going to leave you guys with it janine thank you so much you're
34:19very welcome unbelievable awesome unbelievable yeah it's an awesome community around here yeah
34:27you just can't tell me that she's been there all afternoon oh janine she's been out there working
34:32outside with the boys and raking up gardens and laying turf she need the one doing the like pulling up
34:38the weeds like here yeah that's janine she's lovely i was like who's that now i know it's janine
34:43janine
34:56we wanted to put some doors in between the bedroom and the living room in josh and brooke's part of
35:01the house and foreman lee has a great money saving idea vj board and he then encoded it with the mdf and
35:11then you got the rails that you do it look how beautiful it is you can't tell me that that man
35:15he's not a craftsman he is no it looks ah he's good
35:29good job mate thank you i'll be back i'll be back as soon as i can everyone has come together this
35:43week and it has shown how kind humans can be probably a good time now to get humankind in
35:48to announce their kindest person on site award i reckon it was hard to pick because everyone's put in
35:53110 effort there's one person that has actually stood out quite a lot and from the very first day
35:57that we arrived they have just been stepping up and offering to help however they can yeah they the
36:04first person that we've seen every morning when we've arrived they've gone over and above they've just
36:10always got this beautiful smile on their face and they're so warm and nothing's been too much trouble
36:17for them we want to award this person five thousand dollars so the person that we've chosen is you
36:25serena winning from the humankind five grand that's incredible no one's ever done that for me and i'm
36:44just feeling really overwhelmed actually um because i feel like everybody deserves their own car to five grand
37:06origin energy are here to make sure the whole house is electrified and to get some whopping big solar
37:12panels on the roof so the sun ground inverter and battery is now fully commissioned yes and if
37:19you look at this beautiful installation here this is a single phase hybrid eight kilowatt inverter and
37:25this is a 9.6 kilowatt uh batteries and the customer can able to monitor how much the system is doing
37:32how much the battery is charging or discharging from their mobile app called isola cloud i can i can show
37:38you through the isola cloud app right now the system is producing around 2.5 kilowatt the house is taking
37:45around two kilowatt off and remaining is charging the battery so it is a very easy way for the customer
37:51to manage how much solar they have that's fantastic great thank you so much i really appreciate you coming
37:57out it's our final day here in jones island and the team along with the beautiful community haven't
38:12stopped they've worked around the clock barely sleeping to get this place ready in time for the
38:17family to come home that's right five big days a crew of bloody hard working volunteers 10 grand and
38:26some ripper donations from some top-notch people and businesses who just wanted to pitch in and do some
38:32good oh my goodness wow oh look at the fence it's beautiful oh my god come on
39:02oh hello you darling trotters how are you good we're great we are so excited to show you what
39:14we're about to present but what happened in the last five days wasn't just a renovation it was a
39:19group of people that came together not just because they knew you but because they heard about you and
39:26as a result we have got to know you and how beautiful you are through your families your friends your
39:30stories what you've done and we just want to say we really love you she's making you cry again
39:37sorry and me sometimes when you see things and you're inside the space you can feel the struggle
39:48and sometimes you don't realize how much that struggle is until you actually get in there and
39:52you go oh my god i'm so glad we're here thank you for letting us showcase tari and the kindness
40:00and the love and the generosity that it is so if you don't mind should go into your house
40:06and have a look oh we would love to have a look come on let's go guys
40:10open her up trotters
40:24this is just beautiful they've actually done a mighty job oh they have from what they started
40:42the yard was just a muddy weeks and weeks of work has been done in in days in days you've just got to
40:48look at it
40:56oh my goodness oh wow
41:23what you've done in here is
41:37yeah it's hard to explain like it's it's unbelievable it's just but this table is
41:42a survivor because this survived the floor this is one of the only bits of furniture these chairs
41:46these chairs floated but that survived and it's like the whole eight of us can fit around this
41:51yeah it just looks beautiful just stunning i love it
41:54wow wow that looks so nice that's beautiful
42:11wow oh my god
42:22wow
42:32i can't believe it i can't believe it's the same room all those shelves are gone
42:43i don't know
42:52i can't believe it's the same room all those shelves are gone and i don't know that's what i wanted
43:06him to do but it was like he's never so many jobs i was going to say you had plenty on your plate dave i
43:12don't know whether i couldn't find a bomb
43:21i could think i would have done it in the top of the boat
43:24but it was very good enough to see you
43:26i don't know what i've done in here too
43:28i think you've done so far
43:29And we are pleased to say they are loving what we've done so far.
43:33What you've done in here is, yeah, it's hard to explain.
43:38Like, it's unbelievable.
43:40But the best is yet to come.
43:47Oh, look at it.
43:48It's beautiful.
43:49Oh, my God.
43:50The extra bathroom will make a huge difference.
44:00There'll be no finding at night time.
44:03Yeah, it's a game changer.
44:05Absolutely a game changer, that.
44:07Do you want me to show you how you can wash your phone?
44:09No, it's OK.
44:11I'm guessing that is a bidet over there.
44:15It's a bidet from COVID, so it's like a toilet seat.
44:18You put it on top, so you don't have to replace your entire system.
44:21Oh, lovely.
44:22Have you tried it yet?
44:24No, but I'm happy to do it in front of you to show you the same experience.
44:28But I have heard you haven't lived till you've had water on it.
44:33It's not bad.
44:36I might get off it.
44:39Actually, I don't mind that at all.
44:42You, we should have a go.
44:44Like, honestly, you've got to try before.
44:46Oh, no, I'm not doing it at someone's new house.
44:50I might do it in a motel room where I'm by myself.
44:54Is that your moral stance?
44:56Is that your moral stance?
44:58He's a good guy.
44:59You should put that on your Tinder profile.
45:00We'll not use a bidet at someone's new house.
45:05We'll only do it at motels.
45:07As Dave and Jen take a moment to enjoy their newly transformed home, it's time to show
45:14Josh and Brooke their new retreat.
45:16We know you're having a baby in a couple of weeks.
45:18How's your hormones?
45:19Yeah.
45:20Ask Josh.
45:21Oh.
45:21We have these friends called Dave and Anne.
45:25They're from Humankind.
45:26They rocked up with this caravan that they wanted to gift because I was telling them about
45:30you guys and I was like, it's kind of hard not having your own space a little bit.
45:34Do you know what I mean?
45:34Just somewhere.
45:35And so Lortz and Manka and Lee did an absolute all-nighter last night.
45:42We all just wanted to create a space for you to be able to relax because being a mama for
45:47the first time with your baby, you can't get, you can't get that back.
45:52So I hope this is the place.
45:53You're making me cry.
45:54Stop it.
45:55You can tell the moms.
45:59I know.
46:01I love you.
46:02Okay.
46:03God look.
46:05Oh, my God.
46:19You know this is ours.
46:22Oh, my God.
46:22I'm going to start crying again.
46:28This is going to be really great for when we have the baby and we can come in here and
46:34just relax, say, you can come in here and chill with your little brother.
46:40I'm like lost for words.
46:42That little caravan that we get to call ours is amazing and it's going to be a saviour when
46:59the baby's here and we'll just go sneak off and have some quiet time.
47:08Hi, Jen and Dave.
47:09Hi, Jess.
47:10Hi.
47:10Good to see you.
47:11God, I miss Jen.
47:12This is my mate, Lydia.
47:13She's from Origin.
47:15She's going to give you a little bit of a something-something.
47:16When we heard about everything that you've done for the community, we wanted to give something
47:20back.
47:20So you probably saw that we've installed a great big solar system on your rooftop, but
47:27that's not all.
47:27We've also installed a 10 kilowatt battery.
47:30So that means that all the excess solar that's soaked up by those beautiful panels up on
47:34your roof is going to go into the battery and then as soon as the sun goes down, your
47:38battery kicks in and your battery's going to power your home at night.
47:41So, you know, your home should stay a lot more comfortable and your bills will come right
47:46down.
47:46Wow.
47:47With so many living here, our bills are very high.
47:50We are high users of electricity, so that will be amazing.
47:53That will really help us out.
47:55So welcome.
47:55Thank you, Lydia, and thank you, Origin.
47:56That's it.
48:00Solar panels everywhere is just unreal.
48:03So that'll make a really big difference.
48:07This used to be your flood-torn areas with swamp.
48:12We had your mate bring some gravel, thousands of dollars worth, to be able to give you a
48:16road so that you're able to access your machinery because then we know that if you were to twist
48:21or turn, it could be catastrophic for you health-wise.
48:23So we can't thank the chameleon enough for even donating to Roxy.
48:27That's amazing.
48:28Do you guys want to come?
48:30Come.
48:30Come with us.
48:31Come for a walk.
48:37Oh!
48:38Oh, no!
48:41Oh, no!
48:42That's ridiculous.
48:49Come on.
48:49Come on.
48:51That's a...
48:52Oh, my God.
48:58They'll never come back to the house.
49:04Oh, Jesus.
49:05There's no car!
49:07There's no car.
49:09There's no car.
49:10I don't know where to start.
49:15I've never seen the floor.
49:19Oh, my gosh.
49:26Thank you so much.
49:27What are you thinking?
49:37I've got lots of words.
49:40I wouldn't know what it was like.
49:42Well, this...
49:59I don't even have words.
50:00Sorry.
50:01I have no words.
50:01This is beautiful.
50:02I'm not used to it when people do stuff that they
50:10I know I've got a lot of good friends and that but like for him to then come and do this was
50:23yeah very it's emotional for me
50:26it's a weight lifter it is it's a massive way it's huge it's weeks and weeks of work to us
50:38has been done in days in days and and let's say you've just got to look at it it's just
50:45my god it's beautiful it's unreal you know with a budget of less than ten thousand dollars it
50:52just proves that with some help from your mates and some creative ideas you don't have to spend
50:56a fortune to have nice scenes and be reminded that you loved we got local real estate agent
51:02peter sayers to see if our 10 grand reno has added any value to the place
51:06yes how you going mate told you oh what a difference how are you great great
51:14can't believe how much you've got done I mean oh my gosh what do you reckon what's your favorite part
51:21oh well this was this is a great man cave now this was obviously a good shed before full of tools and
51:27good for storage but what a usable space yeah and then inside looks so different yeah added a bathroom
51:35and so compared to them to now what are we looking at if we were to give them a bit of a nest egg you
51:40know if you were going to sell it as it was before versus now you'd have to be easily 100 probably 200
51:46better off if you were to sell it as it was before so unbelievable turnaround in five days
51:53my gosh
51:53let's check out how we went on the budget the biggest cash spend this week was the bathroom
52:02conversion but adding an extra shower is life-changing a thousand bucks for shelving with a few donations by
52:08the legends at resync and we did receive some incredible donations and a lot of chop out from mates
52:13including excavation hire kogan the caravan from humankind and a special shout out to david latham
52:20at ford's quarry moorland for all the gravel but total cash spend under nine grand my best budget
52:27butler bargain is the shed sometimes things just need a good scrub it's amazing how it turns out
52:32i get the same feeling when i have a shower my best budget butler bargain has to be the barn doors
52:39made out of mdf and cost them less than 400 bucks they look amazing good work lee
52:46sometimes life takes a bit of a rumble and tumble we know that it was more than the floods that has
52:53affected you and janine we also know that you've been having a really tough time as well
52:58uh and so lots of limpid love from atlas property group we have gotten to know each other and he is
53:02one of the most genuine and he i would i'm proud to call him friend he wants to tell you something
53:06we would love to send you away for a few days to hamilton island in queensland so that you can have a
53:12nice little break and really be able to have some time to yourselves and also have some time with
53:17each other oh wow yeah that's crazy that's crazy no way like norm and jess like they are they go
53:26beyond and be of like we love them immensely like what they've done for us and we feel like we've
