00:00First off, each team worked together to prove they weren't just toying around.
00:07Okay.
00:08Damn it, Jonathan.
00:09Stakes were high as the bottom two empires crumbled.
00:13And the remaining four empires grew stronger.
00:16Francois, who will you be choosing?
00:18Camus.
00:19Jonathan, you sure do look good in green.
00:21Come on, get your butt over here.
00:23We're gonna go with Sarah.
00:24Really?
00:24Dana, you can join Tatiana and Erin.
00:26Now, four new empires move forward with their quest to conquer the Winter Wars.
00:33Stakes are so high.
00:35I don't want my empire to crumble.
00:36We're gonna kick butt in the next competition.
00:39One small bad mistake, and that could be, you know, for you.
00:44This is Sweet Empire.
00:46This is really yours, Lord Dingerton.
00:55Wow.
00:56Oh, wow.
00:57Nice.
00:58Wow.
00:58Very super cool.
00:59Hello, bakers.
01:01Welcome to the movies.
01:02Wow.
01:03Holy movies.
01:04Now, empire is actually triple threat.
01:05Cake and sugar and chocolate.
01:07No other empire has all these skills.
01:10I'm excited to see what we come up with.
01:12Four teams are standing strong, but if you want to stay standing, you better bake like your empires depend on it.
01:18Nils and Francois were first place last week, and they picked me.
01:25So, I have to show up with my A-game.
01:30Quick question for you.
01:31Who lives in a pineapple under the sea?
01:34SpongeBob SquarePants!
01:36Bakers, grab your pirate hats, because today we're sailing into Bikini Bottom.
01:42Oh, fries.
01:43That's awesome.
01:44Yes.
01:45Families love going to the movies during the holidays.
01:47So, have I got some news for you.
01:50Your challenge today is inspired by Paramount Pictures, the SpongeBob movie, Search for SquarePants.
01:56Yeah!
01:58It's coming to theaters on December 19th.
02:00Woo-hoo!
02:01Here's a special look.
02:02Watch out for the skeleton guardians!
02:07What?
02:08Watch out for me!
02:11Watch out for the wa-oof?
02:13Not sure what that means.
02:15Plus, it's hard to hear with all the sounds.
02:19Well, whatever it is, I'm sure it's not that important.
02:25Patrick, I think these are the guys who are going to fortify our intestines!
02:31Zay!
02:37SpongeBob and the gang are heading out on their biggest adventure yet, and today, your empire will turn that big-screen moment into a blockbuster, edible, 3D movie poster.
02:48You look awesome.
02:50This is gonna be a fun one.
02:53You'll pick a character from the movie and bring them to life.
02:57You'll design and build an edible frame,
02:59sculpt your character and make them defy gravity.
03:03Oh, cool.
03:04We want these posters to feel alive,
03:07just like a scene from the movie.
03:09And since SpongeBob is a sponge, yeah, sponge cake.
03:13But add some holiday flavours
03:15that would make even the flying Dutchman smile.
03:17I absolutely love this challenge.
03:20I think it's amazing and it's going to be so much fun.
03:22You'll display your posters in our very own theatre
03:26in just eight hours.
03:30Lights, camera, action!
03:34Let's go, let's go, let's go.
03:37So.
03:39Time.
03:39This is exciting.
03:40To plan.
03:42What character do you think we should do?
03:45SpongeBob.
03:46Oh, sorry. Sorry for asking.
03:49I am so excited for this.
03:51I come from a family who are big fans of SpongeBob.
03:55Is he going to be our anti-gravity element?
03:56Yeah.
03:57He's the most recognizable character from the series,
03:59so we really have to get him spot on with all of the details.
04:03We are going to incorporate Gary.
04:05We're going to have Plankton on the bottom of SpongeBob's shoe,
04:08and we're going to have the flying Dutchman
04:09kind of coming into the poster from the background.
04:12What are we going to do for our frame?
04:13We can make it look like the bottom of the ocean
04:16still add certain details to it.
04:18Definitely some corals, flowers, you know, seaweed.
04:22Glad we have you for that.
04:24I'm sure you can come up with something.
04:26All right.
04:26As the newbie, I have to show that we can rock and roll.
04:31You know, you come onto a team that's already running,
04:33you hook to a locomotive, that thing's going down the track.
04:37You've got to show that you belong.
04:38I like Patrick.
04:40I mean, I love Patrick.
04:41You've got to be Patrick.
04:42You've got to be Patrick.
04:43So my favorite SpongeBob character is Patrick
04:46because he's so goofy, he's so fun,
04:49he likes ice cream, just like I do.
04:52I swear, if I could be a starfish in another life,
04:54I would be because they're lazy.
04:55They do nothing all day.
04:57Why wouldn't we have him, like,
04:59swinging from a rope or something?
05:01Yeah, and the rope can be the armature.
05:03Yeah, because then that way he's...
05:04Supported and suspended.
05:06We're going to make Patrick swinging
05:09over this really creepy eyeball worm things,
05:13tentacles moving around him.
05:16I actually dig that.
05:17I think we should definitely have an expression on him,
05:19like, ah, right?
05:21Because, I mean, that's just what he does, right?
05:23Give him a T-shirt, give him pants.
05:24Do we have to give him pants?
05:27When we're watching the trailer
05:28and he jumps out of the trunk
05:29and he's got like a loincloth made out of an eye patch,
05:32it's wonderful.
05:33I mean, listen, this is a fun...
05:35It's on the trailer.
05:36It is.
05:36Lou and Holly, they have a sense of humor
05:38and so I love that we all are stoked about the same things.
05:41Like, I feel like I've found my home in this team.
05:44Well, I think we've got a good plan.
05:46Yeah, I love it.
05:47Ready to do it?
05:48Yeah, I'm ready.
05:49Which character are we going to take?
05:51What about Mr. Krabs?
05:51He likes money.
05:52We want to win, right?
05:53Yeah, we want the money.
05:54Okay.
05:55Mr. Krabs.
05:56Now I feel very confident
05:58because I have finally a cake artist with me
06:00and the paint piece,
06:02it's something I cannot do.
06:04I never make a character from cake.
06:06They have to defy gravity, so...
06:08I think if we have him kind of like up on a foot...
06:12So I'm going to have to rely on Kami to do the main piece.
06:15So he doesn't touch the floor or he touched the floor?
06:17I think maybe just one foot.
06:19I don't know.
06:20I'm not sure if it's enough for them
06:22because they want to defy gravity.
06:23Sure.
06:24And this, you don't defy gravity when you do this.
06:26So I don't make cakes like this very often.
06:31These gravity-defying, very, very recognizable characters.
06:35I am incredibly nervous.
06:37I do not want to let my new team down.
06:40What did you see?
06:41What characters did you like?
06:42The Flying Dutchman.
06:44Okay.
06:44That's, you know, the hardest one.
06:48It would be.
06:49I do think that might...
06:50In my opinion.
06:51Great idea.
06:52He seems like the most complicated character.
06:55I'm not sure about it.
06:56He'd be the coolest one to do as well, though.
06:57He was really cool.
06:58And I like the colours.
06:59I won't push someone to do something
07:01if they don't want to do it.
07:03Unless, well, maybe it's for the good of the Empire.
07:05You know, the team wants the Flying Dutchman,
07:08then it's got to be good.
07:10What other pieces do we want in there?
07:12Some version of his ship.
07:14Ship.
07:14I don't know quite how I feel about that.
07:19I think Elizabeth is a super strong leader.
07:22I think she really, really wants things her way.
07:24And sometimes that might come off intense.
07:26Just saying.
07:28We don't want it to be the main focal point.
07:29We don't want him to say, like,
07:31you did this really cool big ship,
07:32but your main character, he's like this big.
07:35So maybe we'll have the ship small.
07:37So it looks further away.
07:38And high up.
07:38Yeah, so it looks like it's further up in the distance.
07:41Perfect.
07:41Our particular scene is in the underworld.
07:44So there's lots of, like, stalagmites and rock formations.
07:48Let's show you them what we're made of.
07:49Let's freaking go.
07:50One, two, three.
07:51Let's freaking go.
07:52All right, let's get down to business.
07:54Let's make a cake, shall we?
07:56Got a busy day.
07:57Oh, my goodness.
07:59Oh, that's heavy.
08:00Are you ready, kids?
08:02Aye, aye, captain.
08:04I can't hear you.
08:06What do you guys think of these colors for the backboard?
08:08We're going to do a white to green to blue to dark fade
08:11like they're in the cave.
08:12Perfect.
08:13It's not just, like, a freestanding structure.
08:15So you actually have to make the picture frame
08:17that the pieces are in.
08:19Without, like, a good background,
08:20stuff just kind of lies flat.
08:21Okay, I'm going to do the pineapple confit inside, okay?
08:24Okay, perfect.
08:25As soon as that's out of the oven,
08:27then I can get started stocking cake.
08:29So the tasting element for the cake.
08:31First, I make a carrot cake with vanilla whipped ganache
08:34and some pineapple confit in the middle.
08:37For this challenge,
08:38I'm making some very bright and intense flavor.
08:42The carrot cake go to the oven.
08:43Nice, here we go.
08:45That's my way to do a cake.
08:47It's going to be magical?
08:48It's going to be magical.
08:50How do you say magical in French?
08:51Sorry, magique.
08:52Man, I feel so cultured.
08:53You guys are so cute.
08:56She's, like, in the middle of a love triangle now.
08:58You're telling me.
09:00Oh, come on.
09:02Coming into this new empire,
09:04I was a little worried about being a third wheel.
09:07They kind of have this bromance going on,
09:09so I wasn't sure how I was going to fit in.
09:11Hey, Nils,
09:12that bromance of yours and Francois,
09:13you guys end it?
09:14It's no longer a bromance.
09:16They kind of need to listen to me a little bit
09:18because this cake is the focal point,
09:21and that's my forte.
09:24So I'm going to make some edible fabric
09:26for Mr. Krabs' pirate bandana.
09:31Nice.
09:32So you take wafer paper
09:34and a mix of gelatin and glucose,
09:36and then it dries like fabric.
09:39You just cornstarch it,
09:40and then it can go around his eyes like a bandana.
09:43Look, guys.
09:47Nice.
09:48And, Nils, I'm glad we got Cammy
09:49because we're not so good in cake.
09:51I'm glad we get a cake artist.
09:52Oh, yeah.
09:53All right.
09:53I got little legs.
09:54I got his claws.
09:56I got his body.
09:57Oh, yeah.
09:57The cake is stacked.
09:59I'm just going to work around you
10:00so you can make Mr. Krabs Mr. Krabs.
10:02Mm-hmm.
10:03Mr. Krabs really is just balanced
10:05on something the size of your fingers.
10:08I think it should be gravity-defying enough.
10:12Watch out, guys.
10:14Beep, beep, beep.
10:15I'm responsible for SpongeBob.
10:17Hello.
10:18Hello.
10:19I love doing 3D characters,
10:20but you don't have much time.
10:22Okay, I got to get my SpongeBob going.
10:24Heard.
10:26He's the most important part, you know.
10:28Yes.
10:28Because we're doing
10:29the most recognizable character,
10:30we're going to have to spend a lot of time
10:32and put a lot of work into SpongeBob himself.
10:36SpongeBob is the coolest.
10:38Tatiana is going to be focusing
10:39on bringing SpongeBob to life.
10:42I'm going to be working on the tasting element,
10:44and then Dana is going to be doing sugar techniques.
10:46There's an episode of SpongeBob.
10:48One of the characters' favorite ice cream flavor
10:50is prune ice cream with bran sprinkles.
10:54I'm going to do a bran cake.
10:55Hold up.
10:56That kind of sounds a little old home retirement community.
11:03To tie the holiday in,
11:04I'm going to go kind of for, like, a sugarplum vibe.
11:08Uh-huh.
11:08As an old head, I'm listening to him.
11:10I'm like, I don't know.
11:12I know you're old school in the kitchen.
11:14I'm old school SpongeBob.
11:15All right.
11:15I want to get the SpongeBob set up and done.
11:20That should hold it together.
11:21Oh.
11:22Huh?
11:23They already builded it.
11:25Builded what?
11:26Our original plan was to put the background on
11:30before we put SpongeBob on,
11:32but Tatiana's already built up the cake.
11:34Oh, lordy, lordy, lordy.
11:36I was so worried about, you know, getting SpongeBob going.
11:40I completely forgot that we wanted to cover the board.
11:42Tatiana started building SpongeBob right on the piece.
11:46Now you can't lay the board down
11:48to put a nice, smooth piece of fondant on there.
11:51Yeah, I'm about to figure out how to paint it with sugar.
11:54We have to change our plans.
11:56It's not a great way to start building for our team.
11:58Better hurry up.
12:03Change of plans.
12:04What?
12:06We're gonna...
12:07We can't lay the board down.
12:09As soon as we start building SpongeBob,
12:11we no longer can put it on its side
12:14to panel the background as we had originally planned.
12:17Do buttercream.
12:18We're gonna do buttercream on this side, okay?
12:20So do me a favor.
12:21Let me have a chance.
12:22Makes buttercream that color.
12:23And I'm not feeling super great about this decision.
12:26Okay.
12:26Okay, because we don't have time to be laying this around.
12:29But as the leader on this team,
12:30as soon as I start to show that I'm panicking,
12:33I don't want that to kind of creep into the rest
12:36of how the team is feeling.
12:37I'm trying to keep things calm and collected.
12:39I have my brand cake,
12:40and I'm doing an apricot and honey soak on it.
12:44And then on the inside,
12:45I have my dried fruit spice compote.
12:48It'll add a little bit of sweetness,
12:50but it'll also help prevent it
12:52from getting saga on the inside of the cake.
12:53You're working on sugar stuff, right, Dana?
12:56Yes, I am.
12:57I'm on sugar duty today.
12:58So, Tati, I'm gonna pour this over the ice,
13:01and it's gonna make, like, coral.
13:02It's like the same idea with the chocolate, correct?
13:04Yeah.
13:05I have a lot going on.
13:07I have to pour, you know,
13:08giant leaves, sugar coral, frame.
13:11I have a lot of different techniques
13:13that I have to get through.
13:16Oh, this is gorgeous.
13:19We gotta get that sugar boom, boom, boom.
13:21I think somewhere there's a learning curve
13:23that has to happen
13:25between myself and my teammates
13:26to say, hey, listen,
13:28I can go about this fast with sugar.
13:29You go any faster,
13:31we're gonna be calling medics.
13:33I'm gonna need your help.
13:34Yeah, I'm here for you.
13:36That is very...
13:38It's all right.
13:38We'll stretch it out a little bit
13:40as much as we can.
13:40I will be painting the backdrop,
13:43which will be a good setting
13:44for the whole display
13:45that we're gonna be making.
13:46Oh, yay!
13:47Ah, look at that.
13:49Beautiful.
13:52Plug it in, Holly.
13:53It might be good.
13:56Moron.
13:56We are making a nutmeg-flavored cake
13:59with an apple pie filling,
14:01Irish cream liqueur buttercream,
14:03and an enopraline crunch.
14:09So I'm taking on all the tasting,
14:11but I'm also gonna sculpt Patrick.
14:13This is a lot.
14:15It's a nice thin layer,
14:17so they bake it fast.
14:19I gotta start with Patrick's butt.
14:20Aren't you guys, like,
14:21in a relationship?
14:22We're in a situation status,
14:24because he hasn't called me back.
14:25He won't commit.
14:26I know, he won't commit.
14:27I've always been kind of,
14:28like, a natural leader,
14:29but I realize with age
14:30that being a leader,
14:31I'm grouchy.
14:32I'm just grouchy as f***.
14:34I feel at ease here on this team,
14:37and I know that I'm not the weirdest.
14:40Hey.
14:41I feel more comfortable now
14:44not being a leader
14:45and just doing what I'm good at.
14:47So I'm sculpting eyeballs.
14:48We honed in on these eyeball things,
14:51and then I'm gonna do the tentacles,
14:52because, like,
14:53I could do tentacles with my eyes closed,
14:55and then I'm gonna make rocks
14:56and seaweed and coral
14:59wherever I'm needed.
15:00This is my first challenge
15:01that I'm actually enjoying
15:03and excited about.
15:04Shh, don't say it.
15:05Am I not allowed to say that?
15:06You can say it.
15:07Just, you know,
15:07Dana's right there.
15:09Okay.
15:10Uh-huh.
15:11Well, wasn't that
15:11some sugar honey iced tea?
15:14Guys, I'm gonna make a honey cone
15:15for, like, some for the board
15:16and then some for the cake.
15:17Oh, my God,
15:17that's gonna add another layer
15:18of texture, too.
15:19And that, yeah.
15:20It's just golden syrup and sugar,
15:22and then you add baking soda to it.
15:24The baking soda,
15:25it activates it
15:26and makes it that really nice
15:28sponge toffee.
15:29It's awesome.
15:31The best candy ever.
15:33All right, we have sea life.
15:35I love rice paper techniques.
15:37I'm just trying to give it
15:38as much texture as possible.
15:41Yay!
15:41Yay!
15:44Take in your mixer, Elizabeth.
15:46It's mine now.
15:47You got a cake person now.
15:49Are you gunning for my job?
15:50The first thing I'm gonna hit
15:51is my tasting elements.
15:52I have to get those cakes
15:53in the oven so they can cool down
15:55along with all my fillers.
15:56Let's make a green inside.
15:57Okay.
15:58Maybe, like, a pistachio,
15:58so, like, when you cut it,
15:59these green on the inside.
16:00I'm gonna do, like,
16:00an egg white cake,
16:01a base cake.
16:02I'm gonna use the egg yolks
16:03to make a French buttercream.
16:05I think it's very, like,
16:06no one uses it anymore,
16:07so I think it's gonna be,
16:07like, a nice richness,
16:08and I think the judges
16:09will appreciate it because it's...
16:10Well, especially Jacques.
16:11You did the French buttercream for me!
16:13I would definitely say
16:14I'm a great pastry chef.
16:14I really know how to mesh flavors
16:16very, very well.
16:17Elizabeth needs to focus
16:17on the character.
16:18I really, really want to work hard
16:20to show Elizabeth
16:21that she made the right decision
16:22by choosing me.
16:23I think you'll like this color.
16:24Yes.
16:25Perfect.
16:25It's nice to have someone
16:26to bring the lightheartedness
16:28into the group.
16:29I know you want to try it.
16:32Hi.
16:33Why, thank you.
16:34Ha!
16:34It's a bit much.
16:41We're so corny.
16:43We divided the responsibilities
16:44to our strengths,
16:45so I'm responsible
16:46for all of the chocolate work.
16:48I'm making two large panels
16:50that are sort of a backdrop
16:51of stalagmites.
16:53I'm also in charge of the frame,
16:54which will be planks
16:55that are gonna go around
16:57the border of the poster.
16:58Renu?
16:58Yes.
16:59I'm leaving a border
17:01onto the wood,
17:02so I'm removing the fondant.
17:04So that way,
17:05our big chocolate-heavy frame
17:06has something nice and strong
17:07to adhere to.
17:11Okay.
17:12The frame is super important.
17:14Flying Dutchman has a rickety ship,
17:16so for our border,
17:17we're gonna do chocolate slats
17:19and planks.
17:19Remember the plan?
17:20I remember the plan.
17:22Your chocolate needs
17:23to be able to stick to wood.
17:24Of course, of course.
17:27When I'm doing something
17:28that I know a lot about,
17:30it can get frustrating
17:31if someone's bossing me around.
17:32Gotta get those proportions right.
17:34You know what?
17:37Elizabeth, I hear you need a sword
17:38for Mr. Flying Dutchman over there.
17:40Yeah.
17:41I'm making it sharp
17:42like an actual blade.
17:43Get that all nice and sharp at the top.
17:45We want this to look real and normal.
17:48Now it looks like a real sword.
17:52I'm making the chocolate anchor
17:53for the ship,
17:54so I made a little mold
17:56to make this anchor.
17:58We also have a little skull
17:59and crossbones from the mast
18:01and kind of, you know,
18:03goes with the Flying Dutchman.
18:04This is a dark chocolate
18:06that I'm using right now.
18:07I find dark chocolate
18:08is just a stronger chocolate
18:09for a structural work,
18:10so I like to use dark.
18:13Yeah, this isn't half weird at all.
18:15Gravity defying
18:16is always going to be a challenge.
18:19Getting the structure proper
18:21and making sure
18:23that Patrick stays in the air
18:25is a bit tricky
18:28and you never know
18:29if it's going to work
18:30until you start to put the cake on.
18:31He's falling.
18:34No.
18:34Because he's falling down already.
18:36Uh...
18:37His booty is just too heavy
18:40and he starts to slide
18:42down the structure.
18:43Are you guys okay?
18:45Uh...
18:45What's wrong?
18:46He's falling all the way down.
18:48Yeah, he's just going to fall.
18:49What do you want me to hold
18:50so you can...
18:50Nothing.
18:50Okay.
18:51I got it.
18:51This is a nightmare.
18:53This is the biggest part
18:55of the piece.
18:56We can't have Patrick
18:58without legs.
18:59Okay.
19:00Kill me now.
19:01I'm going to end up
19:02at the bottom
19:03of Bikini Bottom
19:04and my empire
19:05is going to dissolve.
19:11So what happened?
19:12My body was way too heavy
19:14so now I've got to try
19:16and work out
19:16how to put...
19:17make this stay here.
19:19Patrick's falling.
19:20This is a nightmare.
19:23I am frustrated.
19:25Yeah, we don't have time
19:26for this crap.
19:273D cakes are my jam.
19:29I literally do them
19:30in the bakery
19:30at least once a week.
19:32Praise to the cake gods.
19:33I can see over
19:34at Holly's team
19:34and they're struggling
19:36a little bit
19:37which is honestly
19:39kind of shocking.
19:40Do you guys figure
19:40something out?
19:41Yeah, we'll pivot.
19:42That's what I do.
19:44I'm the leader
19:44so I have to get this right.
19:46Oh girl.
19:47Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh.
19:50Ta-da!
19:51Woo!
19:51High five.
19:52Well done.
19:55I feel like I've lost an hour.
19:57Well, that was one disaster
19:58I didn't want to do today
19:59but hey,
20:00we pivoted
20:01and we made it work.
20:02We're going to put chocolate
20:03melts in here
20:03to fill it in.
20:04Smooth them all out.
20:05I'll start stuck in the cake.
20:07She'll be apples, mate.
20:07We got this.
20:08It's going to be fine.
20:09I got my eye on you.
20:12I'm going to finish these up
20:13and then I'll airbrush them
20:14and they'll be ready.
20:16Now I'm doing the panna cotta
20:17and after we'll do the macaron.
20:19Excellent.
20:20Little bit of chocolate.
20:21I'm so happy you know chocolate
20:23so I can focus on my tasting
20:25and do all the chocolate work.
20:26We're going to do two jellyfish eyes
20:28spinning on the top of the backboard.
20:30We'll have the tentacles
20:31gravity defying
20:32and they're really fragile
20:34so ultimately
20:35it has to be extremely precise.
20:37That's going to be my buns
20:38for the little burger.
20:40I want to make patty crabs.
20:42Patty crabby?
20:43What's it?
20:44Patty crabs?
20:45I'm doing the macaron now.
20:46So I'm making
20:47a macaron
20:47eggnog panna cotta
20:48with caramelized white chocolate
20:50and a mango jelly.
20:51Those are cool.
20:53Looks great.
20:54You want a little burger
20:54for the patty crabby?
20:56Patty crabs.
20:57Patty crabs.
20:59He keeps calling them
21:00patty crabs.
21:01They're supposed to be
21:02krabby patties.
21:04It is so endearing
21:06and so funny.
21:08It's all we say in France, okay?
21:09I know I hear the name in French.
21:11I'm trying to get it.
21:12It's not the krabby patty.
21:14No, that's not right.
21:15Oh, it's where we are.
21:18Just have to get
21:20the main components done
21:21so we can start building.
21:23Just make them look
21:23real pirate-y.
21:25Getting this started
21:26to get covered,
21:27I feel better.
21:28So time flies
21:30so very quickly.
21:32We still have to put clothes on.
21:33We still have to put the hat on.
21:34We still have to get
21:36Mr. Krabs
21:37onto the base.
21:39There's so many things
21:40that we have to do
21:40and kind of do them simultaneously.
21:43So many gold accents,
21:45details,
21:46all those little things
21:48that really bring
21:48a character to life
21:50have to be done
21:51so we are under the gun.
21:53How you doing old school?
21:55You know,
21:55just writing them books
21:56y'all be reading.
21:58Aaron's literally younger
21:59than one of my children.
22:01How are you feeling, kiddo?
22:03Yeah, I see you, Sarah.
22:05Old school.
22:06I'm 47.
22:07Millennials and Gen Z,
22:08they like have no idea.
22:10Gen X and what,
22:11like we're hardcore.
22:12We're the OG gangsters.
22:14We're not old school.
22:15What is he talking about?
22:16Little whippersnapper.
22:18We just over here
22:18working on your lesson plan.
22:20Oh, really?
22:21Oh, really?
22:22Dude, bring it on, Aaron.
22:24Wow.
22:25Shots fired.
22:27Why is everyone
22:27shooting fire now today?
22:28You all were so nice
22:30in the beginning.
22:31We see your true colors,
22:32all of you.
22:33Now it's like,
22:34I'm going to blame it
22:36on perimenopause.
22:38Don't with a menopausal woman.
22:43Does this look like a nose?
22:45Yeah.
22:45Looks good.
22:46Looks like Spongebob's nose.
22:48Aaron is like
22:49a Spongebob encyclopedia.
22:51He knows that
22:52cartoon by heart.
22:53Does this look legit?
22:54I need you just to keep an eye
22:56because...
22:56That looks good.
22:57He has a very big,
22:58cheesy smile.
22:59I'm like,
23:00checkpointing with him.
23:01Is this good?
23:01Is the size good?
23:02Is the color good?
23:03Nice dimples.
23:04You just got to make sure
23:05you get the freckles on there, too.
23:06Holy cow.
23:07This kid really did grow up
23:09on Spongebob.
23:10He's got his game together.
23:12Our empire is not crumbling today.
23:14Is this legit?
23:15No, Aaron.
23:16Everything he does is legit.
23:18We'd be putting the beard on.
23:20Holy cheese and crackers.
23:22That beard is everything.
23:23The Flying Dutchman
23:24is meant to be gravity-defying
23:26and is a ghost,
23:28so we really don't want
23:29to have any holes
23:30coming out the bottom
23:31that we're going to hide.
23:32It's like a seamstress.
23:33Just hold.
23:34Pin that there.
23:35For a ghost to truly be
23:37hovering and gravity-defying,
23:39we're going to have
23:39our support out the back,
23:40and I think that's going to be
23:41the coolest way to do him.
23:43Renu, I'm starting
23:44the stock shortbread cookies.
23:46What a gorgeous color.
23:47Added some pistachio
23:48and some citrus zest,
23:49so I did lime, lemon, orange.
23:51Sounds delicious.
23:52You're so good with those flavors.
23:53Thanks.
23:55Just going to adjust
23:56your coattails.
23:57Elizabeth.
23:58Yes.
23:58The Flying Dutchman
23:59only eats with socks.
24:01He does.
24:01Got sock cookies.
24:03Oh, those look so cute.
24:04And they look like socks, too.
24:06I can put them
24:06in the treasure chest.
24:08Ah.
24:09Can you make it open?
24:10I can make it open.
24:11Let's do that.
24:12Going into the oven.
24:14All right.
24:16Next.
24:16I'm working on my isomalt now.
24:18I'm also going to take care
24:19of a bunch of sugar elements.
24:21Oh, that looks awesome.
24:22That looks really, really good.
24:23Let's do this.
24:28Bakers, you have 30 minutes.
24:30One half hour.
24:31Aw.
24:32Give me some of that pink
24:33and I'm mixing it together.
24:35I haven't even started
24:36to cover, Patrick.
24:37Let's get on there,
24:39all three of us,
24:39one each side.
24:40Right, got it.
24:41And start smoothing him.
24:42Come on, Lou.
24:44Come on, Sarah.
24:45Let's get this.
24:46Breathe for me, girl.
24:46Breathe.
24:47Come back to life.
24:49We were exhausted,
24:50but, you know, we're moms,
24:51so when you're a mom,
24:52you have no time to complain.
24:54You have to just get it done.
24:55We have a fondant smoother?
24:56Yes.
24:57I don't have time
24:58to really smooth him out,
24:59and I'm not happy.
25:00Way too many bumps and lumps.
25:02No, I've just got an air bubble
25:03that won't go away.
25:04He's getting a shirt.
25:06As a mom,
25:06nobody else is going to do it,
25:08so no one's crying here.
25:10No, we're just going to keep moving.
25:11Put your shoes on.
25:12Let's go.
25:13I've never been so tired.
25:1520 minutes remaining.
25:17Move fast.
25:17We only got 20 minutes.
25:19I need to cover his hat with that.
25:21Where's his hat?
25:21I don't have it done yet.
25:23We have a lot of things to apply.
25:24We do.
25:25I have a partially made face.
25:27I have floating arm picks.
25:30The shelf is a problem.
25:32No, it's not a problem.
25:33For my boarder, it is.
25:34I'm in charge of the frame.
25:35Just carve a chunk out.
25:36These details are important.
25:38Focus on the things
25:39that are most important.
25:40I've got to quickly come in
25:42with shoulders and arms.
25:44I'm going to be right over here.
25:45Is that going to be manageable?
25:47No.
25:47Okay.
25:48There is chocolate stuff everywhere.
25:50Oh, it's everywhere.
25:53I don't think that Elizabeth
25:54respects chocolate.
25:56Chocolate.
25:56Love it, but me.
25:58And, yeah.
26:01She's not, you know,
26:03as into chocolate as I am.
26:04Dana, we've got to start
26:06on covering the background
26:07with buttercream.
26:08Dana and I are painting
26:09the background.
26:10Where are we on time?
26:11Not enough.
26:12That's where we're at.
26:13Or, I guess,
26:14smearing buttercream all over it.
26:16Don't put too, too much, guys.
26:17Just lightly.
26:18Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom.
26:19It's a really awkward angle.
26:21You can paint over this,
26:22but he needs some creases, you know?
26:24Patrick has his striped shirt on,
26:25and it'll just be faster
26:27for me to paint.
26:28I'm going to wear
26:28whatever bloody shirt
26:29that we've got.
26:31I think it's enough.
26:32It's going to have to be
26:33at this point.
26:34We need chocolate to paint
26:35on this to match the other.
26:36We've got money
26:37that needs to go on coral
26:38that needs to go on tasting element.
26:40We're exactly where we need to be.
26:41We're balling.
26:42Stop talking like that,
26:43calm, cool, collected.
26:44How dare you?
26:45One minute remaining, bakers.
26:47Just get it on there.
26:48You have to hurry.
26:50Oh, something just fell.
26:51We've got stagmots falling.
26:52Oop, the claw's going.
26:54Okay.
26:55Give me a skewer.
26:55Skewer?
26:56Yeah, right there.
26:56I feel a ton of pressure
26:58knowing that if I mess up Mr. Krabs,
27:01we're screwed.
27:02Now move.
27:04One of the very, very last things
27:06that I'm trying to do with the hands.
27:07I need to get to the head area, okay?
27:09They're kind of soft,
27:10and I don't know if those are going to hold up
27:12in the positions that I want them to be.
27:14Coal spray.
27:15Keep going, go.
27:16We need to glue this.
27:17You can, hold on.
27:1810, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.
27:28Hands up, bakers.
27:31Thank you, guys.
27:31Oh, yeah.
27:32God.
27:33I'm looking all around,
27:34and I see everybody with frame,
27:37and I'm like,
27:38did we have to make a frame?
27:41Woo.
27:42I'm definitely nervous.
27:44I can see parts of exposed wood on our backboard,
27:46which is a huge no-no.
27:47That was a lot of frickin' work.
27:49I really want to keep my empire intact,
27:51but I'm really kicking myself
27:53for not having done the backboard first.
28:09Bakers, today we asked you to make a 3-D poster
28:12inspired by the SpongeBob movie
28:14Search for Square Pants.
28:16We'll be looking for how the character
28:18in your movie poster came to life,
28:20and we'll be paying close attention
28:21to how it defies gravity.
28:24And we really want to taste
28:26the flavor of the holidays in your creation.
28:29Those flavors have to be delicious and bold.
28:32Up first is Aaron's Empire.
28:35So when I think of the holidays,
28:37I think of a joyous time of year,
28:38and I don't think that there's a better character
28:40within the series or the movie
28:41that encapsulates that than SpongeBob himself.
28:44We wanted to include a lot of details.
28:46If you notice, there's Plankton on the bottom of his shoe.
28:48We have his pet, Gary, here.
28:49And unbeknownst to him,
28:50we have the Flying Dutchman ship
28:52slowly kind of entering the scene from the background.
28:55Gary!
28:55He's fast for a snail.
28:59Look at that.
28:59He is a fast snail.
29:01You know, French love snail.
29:02Escargot.
29:03Escargot.
29:05Be careful.
29:06Jacques's going to eat him.
29:07Yeah.
29:08I love how bright and punchy your cake is.
29:13Main character energy.
29:14I think movie posters,
29:15the whole point is to jump out at you
29:17and make you want to see the movie,
29:18and this piece definitely does that.
29:20I love the color.
29:22I love the defying gravity.
29:23I love the movements.
29:24The 3D of the boat coming out of the poster
29:27is outstanding.
29:28What's catching my eye is we can see exposed board,
29:32and it just feels like such a mess.
29:34Imagine a customer that you deliver a cake
29:37and they can see the board.
29:38They will say, what's happened here?
29:40It's not finished.
29:41We were supposed to carve it in fondant.
29:43I'm really disappointed in myself
29:46with the fact that we have this exposed wood
29:48on the backboard.
29:50This could be the difference between us
29:52moving on intact as an empire
29:54or the empire dissolving.
29:56Aaron, maybe we can cut into this thing
29:59and try it out.
30:00Aaron, can you explain the flavors?
30:03One of the character's favorite flavor of ice cream
30:05is prune ice cream with bran sprinkles.
30:09Okay.
30:09So, we have a bran cake with a honey and apricot soak.
30:13There is a compo of all of the dried fruit and spices
30:16you'll get classically in a sugar plum,
30:19a rum and golden raisin cream cheese mousse,
30:22and then a nut crunch in there for some texture.
30:25Bran cake is not something I expect,
30:27but I have to say the rum soak,
30:29the fruits and the spices,
30:31as well as the filling that you've chosen,
30:34all work very well together.
30:36It does taste like the holidays.
30:38It's not too moist,
30:40but we have some moisture, it's not dry.
30:42So, that show how good you are,
30:43because this is not an easy thing to pull.
30:45Aaron, you can tell that you're a fan of Spongebob,
30:48and it really shines through on your guys' piece.
30:50It's delicious, well done.
30:54Holly, Sarah, and Lou.
30:55Oh, look at the light.
31:00Oh my God.
31:01So, Patrick here is swinging to freedom
31:04and escaping all the evilness.
31:07There sure is a lot to look at,
31:09and I mean that in a good way.
31:11Lou, I want to compliment you on that painting.
31:14These eyeballs in the back, creepy and wonderful.
31:18The legs with the tentacles are amazing,
31:20the fact that there was movement.
31:21Patrick is larger than life,
31:24and you really made him defy gravity.
31:27He's happy.
31:28Look at that smile.
31:29Yes, yeah.
31:30I'm just happy Patrick is wearing bikini bottoms,
31:33you know?
31:34It's an eye patch, yeah.
31:35I wish he was a little cleaner.
31:37I also wish that the stripes on his shirt
31:40were a little more straight.
31:42Miranda, you're completely right.
31:44Bigger the cake, more flow will show.
31:46That's always like that.
31:47I mean, that doesn't mean you need to do something tiny,
31:50but it's very hard to hide or two.
31:53So, be careful with the time.
31:54That's very important.
31:56Yep, knew it was coming.
31:57Like, I saw it a mile away.
31:59Patrick's bumpy and lumpy,
32:01but maybe you just had too many Krabby Patties.
32:03I've never had starfish,
32:04but I'd like to try.
32:06So, we have a vanilla nutmeg sponge
32:08soaked with an Irish cream liqueur,
32:11an apple pie filling
32:12with an Irish cream Swiss meringue,
32:15and pecan praline for a little crunch.
32:18I love apple pie.
32:20This is delicious.
32:21I can feel the apple.
32:22I can feel everything.
32:23Bold flavor and the holiday.
32:25It's like a warm hug.
32:26Yeah.
32:27Yeah.
32:27You know, I want to eat this on a couch.
32:29Right?
32:29This was a lot of fun.
32:31Thank you guys so much.
32:32It was fun for us.
32:35Francois, Nils, Cammie,
32:37you've come in between this beautiful relationship.
32:39We have Mr. Crabbe that is running
32:46to save Spongebob from the underworld.
32:48So, he's only on one leg
32:49and he's trying to carry in the same time
32:51the Paddy Crabs
32:53and some fall on the floor.
32:55The Crabby Patties.
32:56The Crabby Patties.
32:59Overall, it's very bright and colorful.
33:02His shell is nice and shiny and crabby.
33:04What I'm concerned about
33:05is he doesn't appear as gravity-defying
33:07as some of the other cakes.
33:09He's on one leg.
33:10His legs are just this big.
33:13So, I'm actually kind of annoyed.
33:16Mr. Crabbe is on one leg.
33:18How much more gravity-defying do you need?
33:23He's definitely the best dressed.
33:25His outfit is pretty good.
33:26Better than Patrick's.
33:29She's fired.
33:32Wow.
33:33Wow.
33:33Savage.
33:35Another thing that we did ask you
33:38is to build a frame
33:39around the poster on the back
33:42and there is no frame.
33:44So, in a way,
33:45the poster looks a little bit unfinished
33:47the way it is.
33:49I feel stupid as a leader
33:50to, you know,
33:52miss something that important.
33:54We got two tasting elements.
33:56The cake is going to be
33:57traditional American carrot cake
33:59that you find in the holiday.
34:00But I added some pineapple
34:01and then the little sandwich
34:04is macaron with eggnod panacotta,
34:07caramelized white chocolate,
34:08and then mango jelly.
34:10Macaron.
34:11Macaron.
34:13I love it.
34:14Look, you make fun of me all the time.
34:16So, you know,
34:16I need to make fun of you a little bit.
34:19Tarot and pineapple
34:20go well together.
34:22Oh, my gosh.
34:23And the crabby patty,
34:24you have the nice shell of the macaron,
34:26and then the eggnog really shines through.
34:30Yeah.
34:30Thank you guys so much.
34:32They love the taste.
34:33They love the color.
34:33They love the character.
34:34There's a couple little technicalities
34:36that could cost us.
34:37Elizabeth,
34:38Renu,
34:38Jonathan.
34:39Oh, my God.
34:43Look at that.
34:43The whole part of the Flying Dutchman
34:45is he's rather eerie,
34:46and he's very expressive.
34:48That's part of his character.
34:49He has a bag of soles
34:51that he always has nearby,
34:52and apparently,
34:54he also can't eat
34:55unless he has his sock.
34:57I guess it's like a comfort thing.
34:59So we have for you
35:00a special little treat
35:01inside the chest as well,
35:03because you can't eat your tasting
35:04without a sock,
35:06just like the Flying Dutchman.
35:07Chocolate Walk is great.
35:10You can see the wood imitation,
35:12the way it's cracked on the side,
35:13the front wood,
35:15the anchor.
35:16I love it.
35:16You know,
35:17the sugar walk is beautiful.
35:19Overall,
35:19it really tells a story.
35:21The Flying Dutchman himself,
35:23he's well sculpted.
35:24In terms of defying gravity,
35:27he does it very well.
35:28He looks like he's just sort of
35:29swam in from the underworld.
35:32I do think you spent
35:33a little too much time
35:34on the detail of his body,
35:36and then when we get down
35:37to his sleeves
35:38and certainly his fingers
35:40on his right hand,
35:41we can see some of the pieces
35:44not as sturdy and falling off
35:46with exposing some wire.
35:49I would love to try
35:51the Flying Dutchman.
35:52Our cake is a pistachio cake
35:54with a pomegranate cranberry compote,
35:56a pistachio brittle pomegranate arrows,
35:58and that French buttercream.
35:59It is a French...
36:00Listen to the accent.
36:01Oh, this is good cake!
36:06Definitely taste the holidays.
36:08I really love
36:09the cranberry pomegranate.
36:11It's nice and bright
36:12next to the richness
36:13of the pistachios
36:15and, of course,
36:16the French buttercream,
36:17which is the richest
36:17of them all.
36:19Pomegranate is a pretty rare
36:20fruit to find into cakes.
36:22I think this is the first cake
36:23that I eat with pomegranate.
36:25It's a good cake.
36:26Thank you guys so much.
36:27This was fantastic.
36:28It may have had minor flaws,
36:30but I want us to win.
36:32That way, Elizabeth can feel
36:33like she made the right decision.
36:35I gotta say,
36:35all four empires
36:36did a fantastic job today.
36:38We were really, really impressed.
36:40The competition
36:41is getting tougher.
36:42Every detail matters.
36:44Otherwise,
36:45we are going home.
36:46Crumbled.
36:47The winning empire
36:48had a lot of beautiful elements
36:51that really came together
36:53and told us a story.
36:54In first place...
36:58In first place...
37:09In first place...
37:11Elizabeth's empire.
37:14Paul?
37:15Way to go!
37:17Way to go!
37:18You can see it.
37:21Positive attitude.
37:22Positive results.
37:23We won!
37:25Flippin' egg!
37:26What a surprise.
37:28I mean,
37:29slap me and call me an auntie
37:31or whatever it's called.
37:32The saying is,
37:33I mean,
37:33I can't believe it.
37:34How do you guys feel?
37:35Fabulous.
37:36Shocked.
37:36Amazing.
37:38We haven't won anything yet
37:40as an empire of 3-2 solo.
37:44It's just been kind of close,
37:46but just not quite there.
37:48So it's just a big,
37:49big surprise.
37:50So our next favorite empire
37:52had a lot of color,
37:55a beautiful presentation,
37:57and we had, again,
37:59very good flavors.
38:01Important.
38:02The second winning empire is...
38:05Eren empire.
38:08It feels good to be moving up in the world.
38:15I think with the addition of Dana to our team,
38:18we were able to elevate each other
38:20in a way that helped us do just that much better
38:23than the previous cake.
38:24Oh, the young boy does love the old school.
38:30Francois's empire and Holly's empire.
38:33Today, one of your empires will fall.
38:35I know it's not my best work.
38:37I know it sucks.
38:38It's just not good.
38:41Both these teams are incredible,
38:43but one stood out above the other.
38:45So I'm feeling a little down.
38:47It didn't look like it was gravity defying.
38:50I definitely don't want to be responsible
38:52for breaking up this bromance.
38:54The third place empire is...
38:58Holly.
39:01I've had a heart attack.
39:07Thank goodness.
39:08Oh, thank goodness.
39:10You work so well together.
39:12You smile, you help each other,
39:14but also look at the clock.
39:16Make a schedule,
39:17and you will shine even more.
39:21So, Francois, how do you feel?
39:24That's it.
39:25No more bromance.
39:26This is my chance
39:29to nab Francois
39:32and to bring him on board
39:33and have him join our empire.
39:36Francois's empire.
39:38One of the problems today
39:39was an unfinished presentation.
39:42I love my empire.
39:44I want to continue with them,
39:46but it's over.
39:47My empire crumbled.
39:49In this game,
39:50empires rise and empires fall,
39:53but not today.
39:55All of you knocked it out
40:00of the park today,
40:01and we'd like to see
40:02these four empires
40:04work together again.
40:08Wow.
40:11I feel like I was
40:12a bad luck charm.
40:14You're good luck charm.
40:16Look at that.
40:19I hope you like the team you're on,
40:21because all four empires
40:22will move on intact
40:24to the next challenge.
40:26The bromance remains.
40:28Yay.
40:29It is bloody bonkers.
40:33We didn't get to bring anyone on
40:34or get to pick
40:35who's coming on to our empire.
40:37We didn't get anyone
40:38for our empire.
40:40Elizabeth,
40:41your empire is going to get
40:42an advantage in the next challenge.
40:44Ooh.
40:44You're going to want this advantage,
40:46because in the next round,
40:49the losing empire
40:50will be eliminated.
40:54This competition is so fierce.
40:56We have so much more to prove,
40:58and I'm not ready to go home.
41:00Elizabeth's empire,
41:01you'll find out
41:02your advantage soon,
41:03but none of you
41:04are safe from elimination.
41:06This is insane.
41:08I seriously have no idea,
41:09like,
41:10what's going to happen next.
41:12So fight like you mean it,
41:13because you're all
41:13baking to survive.
41:14Next time on Sweet Empire,
41:19you'll create
41:20a hyper-realistic holiday feast.
41:23This is my jam.
41:25Each team will create
41:26realistic seasonal dishes.
41:28We don't have time.
41:30Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom.
41:31Big enough to feed
41:32an entire family.
41:33This fish is so important.
41:35Today, one of your empires
41:36will fall,
41:37and you'll be going home.
41:38Holy f***.
41:39This next challenge,
41:40someone's going home,
41:41and not just one,
41:42the whole empire.
41:43Time is ticking.
41:44We have a legit chance
41:46of winning.
41:46The question is,
41:47can we finish this thing?
41:49Oh, that low main bowl
41:50needs cleaned up.
41:51What?
41:52Oh, f***.
41:53Here goes all I have to work.
