00:00Scott Lomo and George Wright have just landed in Ghana, Africa.
00:20Let's do it, man.
00:22I'm excited.
00:23They ventured halfway around the world to turn their lives around.
00:33They are here for gold.
00:36There's a massive gold rush going on in Ghana right now.
00:41Miners from all over the world are pouring in here, competing for gold-rich land and
00:45getting rich.
00:46So we thought, why not us?
00:48Everyone wants gold.
00:49Scott and I just want our peace, and we might have to fight for it.
00:53Ghana sits on some of the world's largest gold reserves.
00:563.6 million ounces worth around $5 billion were pulled from the ground last year.
01:02Mining is a very, very dangerous business.
01:05People die out here all the time.
01:07We've got about a five-hour trip, and we're going to see our claim.
01:11We've negotiated for what we think is an awesome prime piece of gold real estate.
01:16The land that we've got here is the answer to all of our problems, and we can't wait
01:19to get there and get to work.
01:23To get their mining operation going, George and Scott are carrying a small fortune.
01:28Right here, we've got about $15,000 U.S. in Ghanaian currency.
01:32We don't have any more money.
01:33Hang on.
01:34Put the money down.
01:35Put it away.
01:36Hold on.
01:37Hold on.
01:38This is one of the roadblocks.
01:39These guys want money.
01:40Okay.
01:41Be cool.
01:42Get your window down.
01:43Get your window down.
01:44Got to look.
01:45Spot machetes.
01:46Spot machetes.
01:47In Ghana, most people earn under $5 a day.
01:50Mateshift roadblocks are an easy way for the locals to make quick cash.
01:58This time, a dollar gets them through, but it's just the beginning of their long, dangerous
02:03trip.
02:21Nothing's going to get through that.
02:23George Wright is saying goodbye to his family.
02:30George is deep in debt and is heading to the jungle in Ghana to mine for gold.
02:48It could be months before he returns to his wife and three kids.
02:52We have the notice of default between my debt of $500,000, $600,000, and you throw Scott's
02:57debt in there, which puts us above a million dollars.
03:00You know, we need to pull out 500 ounces of gold immediately so that we can bring that
03:04gold home, take care of these bills, and put food on the table for our kids.
03:10Eleven miles away is his friend and longtime business partner, Scott Lomo.
03:16A couple of years ago, the guys were both successful millionaire realtors.
03:23There was a time a few years ago where almost anything that you did in real estate made you
03:27money, and we made a lot of money.
03:29But when the bottom dropped out of the housing market, George and Scott found themselves drowning
03:34in debt with no way out.
03:36I can't, you know, go get a loan.
03:38I can't borrow money.
03:39I don't know what else to do.
03:42I feel like this has to be it because it's too hard on the kids.
03:49It's too hard having you here and then gone and gone for so long.
03:53So I just feel like if it doesn't work this time, you know.
04:06But Scott and George have a concrete plan to pay off their mortgages and debts.
04:11We picked Ghana because everywhere you go in this entire area, you'll find gold.
04:16Their gold claim is in the Ashanti Belt, Ghana's most lucrative mining area.
04:21It holds an estimated 125 million ounces of gold worth over $200 billion.
04:28George and I have studied this out.
04:30We're not just doing this on a whim.
04:31We're going to make this work.
04:32The stakes are too high and the debts that we have cannot be paid off by going and working a nine-to-five job.
04:38It would take us 30 years to get out of the hole that we're in.
04:41We can get out of this hole in three months.
04:44Scott and George know where to find gold in Ghana.
04:47They've mined here before.
04:49When their real estate business went belly up, the guys spent hundreds of thousands of dollars trying to find millions in Ghana's gold rush.
04:59Holding this gold in my hand just gives me butterflies in my stomach.
05:03They found $300,000 worth of gold and proved to their investor they can find jungle gold.
05:09We know we can do this. We've got a good site. We've got good equipment.
05:13Make it happen, you guys.
05:14We will hoard.
05:15After another round of fundraising, the guys have just secured a new claim.
05:20And got permission to mine it from the chief.
05:25Dude.
05:30How are you doing?
05:35It's time to head back to Ghana to mine.
05:39And this time, the guys will be gone for months.
05:51Scott and George travel 7,000 miles from Utah to West Africa.
05:58The guys are more desperate for cash than ever.
06:01Mounting debt has forced them to Ghana during the toughest part of the year, the rainy season.
06:07Five inches can fall in just one day.
06:11We don't want to be out here during the rainy season.
06:13And normally, Scott and I have tried to avoid it.
06:15The problem is the bills have stacked up too high.
06:17And we don't have a choice.
06:18We have to fight through it.
06:22After a two-day journey, the guys finally approached the gold claim they've never laid eyes on before.
06:29Up over the hill, millions in gold could await them.
06:37Crap.
06:38Just go.
06:39No, no.
06:40We're not going to make this.
06:41Scott, you can make it.
06:42Just push it.
06:43That's all mine.
06:44There's no way in hell we're getting-
06:45No, ride that groove.
06:46You'll be fine.
06:47Push it up.
06:48All right.
06:49Your call.
06:50All right.
06:51Bring it over.
06:52Bring it over.
06:53Push that distance.
06:54We're not going to do that.
06:55No.
06:56We lost our momentum.
06:57Back up and go back again.
06:58There is no way in hell we make this.
06:59Just ride the groove.
07:00You stay to the left side, you're going to stay at high ground.
07:03Do it.
07:04Do it.
07:05It's not going to do it.
07:06Do it.
07:07We get up there.
07:08We're starting to step.
07:09We're tipping.
07:10We're tipping.
07:11Fly off the road.
07:16We got to get up this.
07:20We're actually just stuck.
07:31We can dig it out.
07:32The nearest tow truck is miles away.
07:34If they can't free the truck, they'll spend their first night in Ghana in the jungle.
07:42George slides aboard under the truck's tires to get some traction.
07:48It's dug down a little more deep on this side.
07:50Well, let me rock it and see if I can get up on there.
07:52Okay.
07:53All right.
07:54I'll be pushing.
07:55Push it.
07:56Push it.
07:58Go.
07:59Go.
08:00Go.
08:01Go.
08:02Go.
08:13They finally get the truck out.
08:15Ah!
08:17But it's clear it won't make it up the muddy hill.
08:20Let's grab it and go.
08:21Scott and George have no choice but to walk up the hill to their claim on foot.
08:35What the F?
08:36What is that?
08:37Who's excavator is that?
08:38Victor!
08:39There to greet them is Foreman Victor Kapah.
08:40Victor will help George and Scott run their mine.
08:41What's going on here?
08:42It's like Chinese guys are all over.
08:43These are Chinese guys.
08:44They're working on our site?
08:45Yeah.
08:46I'm going around but it's like Chinese guys are all over.
08:47Yeah.
08:48It's all dug up.
08:49Scott, look at this.
08:50Mining for gold in Ghana can be chaotic and lawless.
08:53The country is in the middle of a gold rush.
08:56Thousands of Chinese miners are estimated to be a good job.
08:58What's going on here?
08:59It's like Chinese guys are all over.
09:00These are Chinese guys.
09:01They're working on our site?
09:02Yeah.
09:03I'm going around but it's like Chinese guys are all over.
09:06Yeah.
09:07It's all dug up.
09:08Yeah.
09:09Scott, look at this.
09:12Mining for gold in Ghana can be chaotic and lawless.
09:18The country is in the middle of a gold rush.
09:20Thousands of Chinese miners are estimated to be hunting the abundant Ghana gold.
09:27Nine months ago, Scott and George leased this land from the government and paid $3,000 to the local chief to secure the claim.
09:35Scott.
09:38But it appears the Chinese are now illegally mining George and Scott's land.
09:44Get him off.
09:45George, come here.
09:46Get over here.
09:47Come here.
09:48Come here.
09:49Come here.
09:50Come here.
09:51Come here.
09:52Come here.
09:57Is this your site?
09:59This is your site?
10:00Is this your land?
10:01Hey.
10:02He's going to tell you it's his land no matter what.
10:04What's he going to say?
10:05I'm illegal?
10:06No.
10:07We go to the chief.
10:08Let's go.
10:09Okay.
10:10Then end him.
10:11Don't go end a guy over here with shotguns.
10:12There's probably...
10:13There's probably 400 guys right behind him.
10:16You've been to Chinese sites.
10:17You know what they look like.
10:18There's a whole encampments of them.
10:19We're not going to walk in there.
10:21Fine.
10:22Where's the chief?
10:23The chief is in the town.
10:24You show him to me.
10:25I want to talk to him.
10:26Scott wants to talk to him.
10:27We have words.
10:28Okay.
10:29Victor, do you understand how serious this is?
10:31Do you understand how much money we've spent?
10:33How long we've been planning to do this?
10:35The chief controls all the land in the area.
10:38The guys have to find out if the chief double sold their site or if the Chinese are claim
10:44jumping.
10:45This is a big problem.
10:47I'm pissed off.
10:50You know, we've come a long way to go through all of this.
10:54I'm really pissed off right now that somebody would try to deceive me like that when we're
10:57out here trying to provide for our families.
11:04Yeah, more trucks coming.
11:07We've got to get in the car.
11:08Go.
11:09Coming up, the guys confront the chief and his elders.
11:12If you're attempting, they will kill you.
11:14And hit roadblocks at every turn.
11:17Scott gets their only excavator.
11:20How deep is that?
11:21In a tough spot.
11:23We're stuck.
11:24And in a desperate attempt to send money back home.
11:27I'll pay you right now.
11:28The guys make a sketchy back alley gold deal.
11:31That is the biggest piece of gold I've ever seen.
11:45Scott Lomo, George Wright, and Foreman Victor Kapah are heading to the village of Sushensu
11:50in Ghana to meet with the local chief.
11:53The guys must find out if the chief has double sold their gold claim to Chinese miners.
11:59What we know is that we just saw Chinese guys wrecking everywhere.
12:02Okay.
12:03So we don't know what is going on.
12:04Sorry, we still hope that there's some misunderstanding.
12:07We hope that we can stay on this land.
12:09But it is far too dangerous for the guys to confront the Chinese miners.
12:14Ghana has a violent history of shooting incidents on Chinese gold claims.
12:20The only person who has the power to remove them is the local chief and his elders.
12:27How are you?
12:28How are you?
12:29Good.
12:30How are you?
12:31Good.
12:32Welcome, sir.
12:33It's good.
12:34Well, we've gone to the site and we found many, many Chinese miners.
12:47And so we want to come and talk and ask who has the right to be there.
12:51there nobody has given them their land we want to uproot them definitely we have to move them but
12:59you know there are no resources to do that the chief acknowledges that the chinese are mining
13:05george and scott's claim illegally he knows he should be forcing chinese miners off the land
13:11but he has no way of doing so the chinese have guns and he doesn't very dangerous
13:19dangerous we're very concerned you know we have families what i said if you attempted they will
13:26kill you yes so paul we want we want to work and make money for you but we don't want to die
13:33yeah we are not going to fight you know we are not here to destroy anybody nobody is going to shoot
13:39we understand and it's it's problematic for all of us so but we understand right
13:49we need to find a site that's already got all the problems fixed so i think there were problems
13:56right i think we can't do this hey if we're gonna do this let's do it now let's go
14:05kicking the chinese off no problem let me go ask them to kindly leave the land that we have papered
14:11and that we've paid for i'll end up in a hole it's just too dangerous for the guys or the chief to
14:18confront the chinese miners but scott and george are deep in debt they need a new gold claim fast
14:25now it's go time and we get out there and we go find a piece of dirt we got to find land right now
14:33that evening george calls his wife marie back in utah he has bills to pay and no way to pay them
14:40them hello hey marie how you doing good what's what's the news
14:56you know it's just a fight every step of the way it's a fight well um i've got the health insurance
15:05that's that's gonna lapse that's like a couple hundred bucks do you think there's something
15:11like some way that you'd be able to send a couple hundred home just so i can pay that
15:20um
15:20um
15:29yeah so i i don't have anything to send right now
15:37okay
15:39i love you
15:42goodbye goodbye
15:43she needs some extra cash i don't know how we're going to get it we're not mining we're not
15:52even close to getting gold or money or anything
15:58the next day it's 90 degrees with 90 percent humidity the guys meet in the town of dunqua
16:06to begin the hunt for a new claim okay let's call him scott calls chris chandler an american
16:11gold miner in ghana that the guys worked with just a year ago hey chris hey hey it's scott how's it
16:19going good man how are you guys uh hey we've had better days we've had a problem with our first
16:25concession and maybe you can point us in the right direction um yeah we have one in particular we can
16:30discuss okay let's go that's our next lead we gotta go
16:33it's a 25-mile journey from duqua to chris's claim near the orphan river in the gold rich ashanti belt
16:45a region estimated to contain 125 million ounces of gold worth over 200 billion dollars we just hope
16:53they've got something for us we're out of time we gotta hurry so they are
16:57a gold claim here could be worth millions good to see you yeah cool we really appreciate you guys
17:07seeing us no problem seriously thank you business chris and his partner sing have mined in ghana for
17:13four years they've pulled up to eighty thousand dollars of gold from the ground a week we need
17:19something fast we're out of time so you guys have anything um yeah we have we have 25 acre concessions
17:27fully licensed and legal and and you know it's all already been taken care of surveys been done on
17:32it and everything you know this is going to be this was supposed to be our retirement we have the
17:35drilling record we have the drilling record of of of um like a survey has been done on it
17:41survey's been done on it and everything we know what the values are in it drill reports show
17:46kristen singh's 25 acre amasso claim holds an estimated 1.5 million dollars in gold enough for
17:53the guys to get out of debt even make a profit
17:59but in the middle of ghana's gold rush land is at a premium and landowners have the upper hand all
18:05right so we just got to hash out the details here cool that's the that's the easy part right
18:12yeah i don't know we'll have to see how far your arm can twist yeah it's it's right now it's pretty
18:17twistable it's pretty bendy just call me gumby right now all right all right thank you guys thank
18:23you guys thank you guys thank you guys thank you so much you guys out you got your back thank you
18:28thank you this means a ton dude we're not gonna let you go okay thank you
18:37george and scott finally have a claim to mine
18:41but it's too early to tell if it holds the million plus in gold they desperately need it to
18:59scott lomo and george wright are on the way to their hotel in tunkwa there's just tons of traffic
19:05i've never seen so much traffic before in the city like this they have a handshake deal for a new gold
19:10claim that is estimated to hold 1.5 million dollars in gold but they still need to iron out the details
19:17of the deal with the claim owner chris chandler hey chris yeah yeah we're just heading back to the hotel now
19:28that's the deal wow now i'll have to discuss it with scott i appreciate it bye
19:44so look the deal is kristen singh won 25 of the gold they keep control of operations on the mine
19:51and they have their consulting fees on top i just think we need to slow down a bit is all just really
19:56look at what we have been offered yeah that's a smoking deal for them but you know the upside is
20:03they know exactly what they're doing and we'll be able to find gold a lot quicker with them
20:09i agree with your concerns and i think that we should you know take more time to go find the right
20:13site but our families don't have time to wait for us to do that we could spend another couple weeks
20:18looking for the perfect site by then what we have mortgage payments too we got to get in the dirt
20:22right now so i hear what you're saying i just think we're out of time the ramaso claim could hold up
20:28to 1.5 million in gold if the land holds that much gold and the guys can pull it out of the ground
20:35they'll clear one million dollars enough to get out of debt you know me if you're saying you're in
20:41i've got your back 100 i'm with you let's do it
20:57the next morning the guys hit the road early to get their claim up and running as fast as possible
21:04good luck see you man okay good luck so scott's heading out there with the surveyor now so that
21:09we know what part of that land is ours and what part of it isn't ours you've got to know your
21:12boundaries in this game i'm on my way now to go get our excavator and i got to take it 25 miles to the
21:18village by our new site the last time scott and george were in ghana they used three excavators to mine
21:27for gold the only one still working was the 330b but that was 11 months ago
21:34to ensure the guys get off to a good start their claim owner has let george borrow his excavator
21:43driver bushand kumar but george has no clue if the excavator will start after sitting for 11 months
21:51here in ghana machinery left on the side of the road is often stripped of parts
22:04george and team carefully load their 70 000 excavator onto a low boy
22:23and start out for their new claim
22:25george victor and bouchon now have a 25-mile journey to their ramassal claim on roads where
22:36anything is possible
22:42just when things are starting to look up for george and scott
22:45here's in the middle of the road up there looks like a roadblock or something okay this is an illegal
22:50roadblock killing crap
22:56victor be careful victor goes to find out why the villagers have blocked the road
23:06the locals have built a makeshift bridge and they are demanding a toll to get across
23:11what do they want they want 200 cds 200 cds is over a hundred dollars just to pass through one small
23:19village i'm not paying 200 cds
23:26alone with no authorities in sight victor tries to calm them up so they can get through the barricade
23:33they're shaking us down for 200 cds just across this bridge will you please let us cross
23:41but if george doesn't pay up the villagers may take the truck and his excavator to strip them for parts
23:50but after two hours of back and forth victor returns with a deal
23:56he has negotiated the locals down from a hundred dollars
23:59to less than 20. but the standoff has pushed george to his breaking point
24:10we had to pay 20 dollars about just to get through there it's just so tiring
24:20the smaller bridges are built by the guys themselves they use their hands to build it so
24:25it's like nobody's helping them like the government's not helping them do that so they do it themselves
24:31like it's so pissed that i feel like i'm being taken advantage of you just have to appreciate their
24:35effort until then you understand what they are saying but you don't have money and just calm them
24:39that they will do it they will listen to you but if you want to be arrogant they are more arrogant than you
24:47you don't have to do it you don't have to do it you don't have to do it you don't have to do it
24:5115 miles up ahead on their new ramaso gold claim scott and mine owner chris have brought in local surveyor
24:58e.k adanza adanza's job on the site is to find the claims boundary post so the guys know where they
25:05can legally bring in their excavator once we know where the boundaries are then we'll have to sit
25:11down and devise a strategy chris owns the mining rights but he has never worked the land after an
25:18hour of searching for posts in the 25 acres of jungle the team is lost i hear pumps going on do you hear
25:24that yeah yeah people dredging the stream here's the whole camp back here look at that chinese camp
25:31probably george and scott's new land is surrounded by a chinese claim we're on a chinese site and i
25:37wouldn't have this camera out i'd put it down the team has stumbled onto chinese land they are
25:43trespassing don't speak chinese and don't have guns you have a guy right here with a shotgun hey he's
25:49gonna fire the gun the team has stopped dead in their tracks on some of the hottest gold mining
25:55ground in ghana surrounded by heavily armed chinese miners
26:10i would put that camera away if i were you scott lomo and team are trying to find the post that
26:15mark the boundaries of his new gold claim he needs to determine what land is his so he can map out a
26:21route for the excavator he needs to bring in but he is lost and is now trespassing on a chinese gold
26:28claim we are clearly not on our site not minding our business we do have a guy here and a guy here both
26:34armed looking at us right now i'm concerned about getting the hell out of here well let's go back
26:43around i know the basic direction of where this this concession is finally after two hours of searching
26:56in the jungle the team locates a ramaso claim marker this is a good sign having the boundaries properly
27:03marked gives us some ammunition to say you know read it and weep
27:06the ramaso gold claim covers 25 acres of jungle and with its boundaries now clearly marked scott brings
27:18a near 75 000 pound excavator on a narrow three-mile dirt track but it's the middle of the rainy season
27:25and everything is flooded there's no dry way onto the claim
27:29just as scott meets george and victor in the village of ramaso the skies open up further complicating
27:41and everything matters
28:01we're about a quarter mile away from our site just beyond these trees lies millions of dollars of gold
28:11the earth one within just a stone's throw of their claim flood waters block their path
28:27how deep is that i don't know let's go see i mean there's water right here through this area but i
28:34can see high ground on the other side of it we're like a hundred yards away from our site
28:39there's an estimated 1.5 million dollars of gold on the ramaso claim if they can get it all out george
28:46and scott just may be able to climb out of debt and provide for their families i'm gonna walk through
28:52this hopefully you'll be able to just walk your excavator right on through follow me in if you can
28:57get across let's go we'll do it the rest later but without an excavator there'll be no gold at all
29:08if the water level reaches the cab scott is sitting in the engine will flood
29:26if they lose their only working excavator their last ditch effort to find gold in ghana will fail
29:34this is home baby right here this is home
29:49they get the excavator up onto the only dry land on their new claim good job dude
30:00he killed it he killed it we had a huge day today i mean just an incredible day i mean i was almost
30:06in tears at one point just because i didn't think we were going to be able to make it and then i was
30:09in tears at the other point because we did but the water all around them has the guys worried
30:16if it goes up a couple more inches the other equipment can't get in and we can't do much
30:20with one excavator so let's just hope and pray that this water goes down and that we can get all the
30:25rest of the equipment in and we can start digging i am excited with that but i there's a big ominous
30:31cloud overhead and i'm and i'm hoping that it's not rain
30:37the next morning things go from bad to worse nearly five inches of overnight rain has overwhelmed the
30:52dirt road to the claim but james a local guide knows another way in all right let's go grab a
30:59canoe and head on out it's good to see you thank you for coming
31:01the floods open up a different way through the jungle the biggest worry for us is how far in is
31:13this going to go but james's route again brings them dangerously close to their chinese neighbors
31:18this time too close move it move it
31:33we got a little too close for comfort it looks like onto our neighbor's site so
31:37we had to bug out of there uh we're on our way now so we gotta go
31:40scott and george head back to dunquat until the water recedes they can't begin mining the ramaso claim
31:55seven days after arriving in ghana scott and george haven't even seen gold after all this crap it's
32:02just unbelievably frustrating you know i keep thinking about all the things that have to be
32:06accomplished by us you know obviously my never one thoughts the family you know and how far behind
32:11we are already and how we can't even you know take care of things it's just it's just incredibly
32:17frustrating yeah we need to be doing better man you know we we've done the math right how much should
32:22we have sent home combined it's like 35 36 hundred bucks that we should have already sent home just to
32:27pay the mortgage just to survive we got to step it up we will
32:33people are counting on us to do you know what we haven't been doing we haven't flipped on the
32:38hustle switch we got to get to do some more hustling i've just got to make sure that we're prepared to
32:43overcome it no that's what we're if anyone can do this it's going to be you and i all right man let's go
32:55together scott and george are over one million dollars in debt after the bottom fell out of the
33:00real estate market to start digging themselves out of the hole they have to send money home to utah
33:07without a viable claim they only have one option buy cheap gold off the street to flip for a quick
33:13profit we're trying to go out to some of these local miners directly with cash in hand ready to buy gold
33:19for villagers it can be safer to flip gold for cash in your own village than carrying gold into town
33:26but back alley gold deals are extremely dangerous and often go south we don't know who we're dealing
33:31with and that's the biggest danger of all if their gold's real if they're trying to rob us if they're
33:36trying to set us up listen everything's okay out here in ghana until it's not scott and george head to
33:42aquaboso a remote village full of miners eager to quickly turn their gold into cash so this is aquaboso we
33:49got to make sure that we put the camera down we got to get that down with thousands of dollars changing
33:58hands everyone is on edge i'll stay you got this i got this all right watch the money okay
34:08george and victor head off to find the main gold dealer in town
34:12see here right away a woman who claims to know the dealer starts negotiating with george
34:22uh-huh and where's the gold
34:26today
34:30no we're here right now we're here right now we have cash
34:35do you have gold how much gold do you have right now i'll pay you right now
34:38before george can make a deal victor returns with the main dealer and he has gold to sell
34:53but george and scott are attracted unwarned attention
34:58just as the dealer pulls out balls of gold he gets spooked by something on the street
35:03scott lomo and george right are in a remote mining village trying to buy gold off the street
35:18but their gold dealer just got spooked and disappeared george is carrying thousands in
35:23ghanaian currency and needs to find a new dealer fast
35:38that's going to buy gold he's in the car go here scott lomo and george right are in the middle of a
35:52dangerous street deal a week after arriving in ghana to mine for gold they have made no money
36:00they have resorted to flipping gold thousands are on the line
36:03the gold dealer returns but he's even more nervous now scott and the dealer agreed to drive out of
36:17town to do the deal but the dealer demands that someone stay back as human collateral i'll stay
36:24i'll stay i'll stay price okay buying and selling gold can be lucrative in ghana
36:34but these deals often turn into robberies especially when foreigners are involved
36:40you trust victor okay good so let's do that scott needs to be careful and if he can buy low so he can
36:49sell high okay here we go the dealer pulls out a ball of gold
37:01yeah 62 that's grams 62 grams is two ounces worth about thirty two hundred dollars in the u.s
37:09in ghana it is worth about 6400 cds and the dealer demands that price
37:15and that's the price not okay
37:24we need lower
37:27you can do it
37:31you can do it we can go come on we'll buy it right now this is a lot of gold we can pay cash today
37:36if you come down if you come down to 4253 cds that's a good deal
37:43if he gets his price scott is looking at a potential profit of 2200 cds or one thousand dollars
37:51that is if the gold he is buying turns out to be pure there's not a lot of margin in that victor
37:56but we'll make money we'll make some money today
38:03okay
38:03okay we can do this now let's go back
38:10with the deal closed scott returns to pick up george that is the biggest piece of gold i've ever
38:17seen in the bush we might have just made money okay don't let's go let's go let's go let's go they
38:23head to the nearby town of obrasi to smelt the gold it's a trip gold dealers in remote villages in
38:29ghana are reluctant to make selling gold in your own town can be safer than risking traveling with
38:35it the street deal cost the guys 2500 it's now time to see if they made a profit or bought worthless
38:44junk we're here to find out exactly how much money down to the dollar scott and i made on buying gold
38:49out in the villages we think we're going to make about seven or eight hundred dollars but until this
38:53gold comes out of this fire and we know you just never know i'm just hoping we made some money
39:00first sulfuric acid is used to clean the gold some of the impurities are going to burn off and we're
39:06just hoping that we keep as much of the gold as we walked in with
39:11so there's no other metals in here no there's no matter they clean it very well this street deal might
39:16just pay off the gold appears to be pure it's all pure gold man it's very clean clean clean gold
39:24after the impurities are burned off the gold is smelted down in a crucible at 2 000 degrees fahrenheit
39:35right now the gold is glowing it's just about to start melting
39:40then it's going to pour it into this mold right here and it's going to sizzle and turn into gold
39:44smelting is crude but effective for thousands of years it's been the only way to purify royal gold
39:53it's very simple it takes about 10 15 minutes to get 99.9 percent pure gold
40:05oh you did that that's right nice job dude that's why we're here baby in each town there are local gold
40:12merchants independent dealers cashing in on ghana's gold rush before scott and george smelted their gold
40:19it weighed over two ounces or 62 grams any weight loss during that process will cut into their profits
40:26moment of truth less than half a percent just burned off there could be more good news this week
40:43ghana's exchange rate crashed against the u.s dollar a good offer above 4 253 cds could mean a real profit
40:52the total price is 5 513 gana city it's 917 dude the guy's risky two-hour street deal has made them a
41:02quick 900 it won't pay off their debt back home but they are back on track we'll take cash
41:09get used to this they can now finally send some money home to their families
41:23hey guys hey how are you where's the gold i got some gold buddy i got some gold scott and i hustled
41:43some gold and we actually made 917 on the deal so it's not a lot it's it's not a lot but where is
41:51it i already sold it we got the cash so when are you going to start actually mining the mining we're
41:57hoping to start here in about three days i think we're going to have equipment on there three days start
42:04getting everything set up and a couple days after that we should be washing well i'm proud of you i'm
42:10glad that there's good news and there's something moving forward thanks baby i love you so much
42:15they had a good day but the guys still aren't gold mining they have to break the news to mitch
42:21their investor good morning gentlemen how are you mitch has sunk 150 000 into george and scott's
42:30second mining trip to ghana give me a quick overview of what's going on down there obviously things
42:36didn't start off the way we hoped we found chinese miners on this site they have our site you gotta be
42:42kidding no no but now we've got a great site with great guys close to us we've got some good momentum
42:48going right now we're hoping that it continues that's basically the bottom line i mean we just got
42:52to come straight out and tell you um you you can't call and say oh we got this we got this major
43:00problem this major problem you got to fix your flipping major problems you're blowing through your
43:05investment capital so get the thing operational and start making some money before we pull the plug
43:11and you won't even have a ticket to come home
43:16scott and george's radical plan to find gold in ghana has to start paying soon we've got to figure this
43:22off or the guys will return home to the states in even worse financial shape than when they left
