00:26:52i was gonna call that out at some point
00:26:54yeah yeah yeah
00:26:55where it's like
00:26:56they're off the island now
00:26:58yeah
00:26:58like all the jurassic parks like
00:27:00oh they gotta keep the dinosaurs away
00:27:03and then oh this ends with
00:27:04oh shit they're gonna come
00:27:05they're on the mainland
00:27:06what are we gonna do
00:27:07that was like the vibe i got
00:27:08was like
00:27:09oh damn
00:27:09the upside down's coming
00:27:11maybe the rest of the world
00:27:12will finally believe
00:27:13or at least
00:27:14understand
00:27:16that's pretty nuts
00:27:17oh boy
00:27:19crazy crazy stuff
00:27:21in albuquerque
00:27:27i guess you're just like
00:27:31no we're making use of the credits
00:27:33yeah
00:27:33they don't want you to realize it's over
00:27:37and then cancel your subscription
00:27:38until a part five comes out
00:27:40one thing's for sure
00:27:42this season certainly isn't repetitive
00:27:43no
00:27:45i love that
00:27:46i love how it ended
00:27:46i really love how it ended
00:27:48i prefer that
00:27:49yeah
00:27:49no yeah yeah
00:27:51this was a tour de force
00:27:52at least here in this moment
00:27:54jeepers
00:27:56all right
00:27:57it's now 5 30 in the morning
00:28:00oh good
00:28:01hey we did it
00:28:02we did it
00:28:02we did it
00:28:03this was like uh
00:28:04this was like a junior snyder cut
00:28:05between these two episodes
00:28:08we didn't shoot it at 3 in the morning
00:28:10yeah
00:28:10yeah
00:28:10we started at a more reasonable time
00:28:12yeah
00:28:12that's great
00:28:13i'm wide awake
00:28:13no hey
00:28:14that's what invigorating stories will do
00:28:16that was awesome
00:28:17i don't really care
00:28:18it's 5 30
00:28:19yeah that was awesome
00:28:20i will in a couple hours
00:28:21but not now
00:28:22all right
00:28:25god
00:28:25now let's give the most concise
00:28:29thorough review
00:28:30possible
00:28:31yes
00:28:32let's
00:28:32let's leave no stone
00:28:34let's knock it out of the part
00:28:36let's do a review
00:28:37as long as the episode
00:28:39beat by beat breakdown
00:28:42thank you to storyblocks

00:29:56now
00:29:56back to the video
00:29:57all right
00:29:58wow
00:29:59here we are
00:29:59okay
00:30:00well
00:30:00to be totally transparent
00:30:01with you guys
00:30:02gonna need a slight refresh my mind
00:30:04as we're doing this
00:30:04because
00:30:05what ended up happening
00:30:06was we started shooting this
00:30:08at midnight
00:30:08it's not 7 in the morning
00:30:09for us
00:30:09because
00:30:10even though we finished at 530
00:30:12because
00:30:13we send footage to
00:30:15to prepper to help edit
00:30:16and then when they got a cut
00:30:17done
00:30:18I review it
00:30:19give notes
00:30:19then they adjust it
00:30:21and then
00:30:21they turn it around
00:30:22so fast
00:30:23this is a promo for prepper
00:30:24right now
00:30:24because
00:30:25wow
00:30:25they really delivered
00:30:27this time around
00:30:27and then I was like
00:30:29oh okay
00:30:29I need to like prep this video now
00:30:31and make the thumbnails
00:30:32and then get that one up
00:30:33and then an hour and a half went by
00:30:34now
00:30:34now I'm gonna talk about part two
00:30:35when I just saw
00:30:37we've watched like so much footage
00:30:38of part one
00:30:39but my mind's all gonna come back to me
00:30:41in just like a split second here
00:30:43because
00:30:43this was great
00:30:45this was epic
00:30:46it was so
00:30:47transportive
00:30:49you know
00:30:50I think it is a testament
00:30:51you know
00:30:51it's the kind of weird life
00:30:53that
00:30:54John and I
00:30:55live with doing this
00:30:57with reacting to stuff
00:30:58you know
00:30:59and it's like
00:30:59we want to give good reviews
00:31:00and all that
00:31:01but you know
00:31:01when you're filming stuff
00:31:02at this hour
00:31:03it's important that we remain engaged
00:31:04and we can really just
00:31:05immerse ourselves in it
00:31:06and really just feel
00:31:07what's going on
00:31:08and sometimes
00:31:10when it's like
00:31:10three in the morning
00:31:11you're not really gonna be
00:31:12in the mood
00:31:13to have a camera pointed at you
00:31:14but this was so
00:31:15incredibly immersive
00:31:16that the time went by so fast
00:31:18and
00:31:19I think that's such a testament
00:31:20to how strong this is
00:31:22because this was beautiful
00:31:23and
00:31:24the last like
00:31:2530 minutes
00:31:26I was just kind of
00:31:26left in like shock
00:31:27you know
00:31:28I think about
00:31:29I'm sure for a lot of people
00:31:30they were just left in
00:31:32insane amount of tears
00:31:33and
00:31:34I've noticed that
00:31:35just with Stranger Things alone
00:31:37from my rewatch
00:31:39of the first three seasons
00:31:40I remember
00:31:41my rewatch of the first three
00:31:43getting like
00:31:44increasingly more emotional
00:31:46and then I ever had been
00:31:48on my first go around
00:31:49and
00:31:51like
00:31:51like with Eddie
00:31:52for example
00:31:53like this Eddie
00:31:54Eddie death scene
00:31:55and
00:31:55just everything that was
00:31:56happening at the end
00:31:57with Max and all that
00:31:57I was just kind of like
00:31:58wow this is really
00:31:59going down a bleaker route
00:32:01than I expected
00:32:02and it's the
00:32:02Hawkins is now being exposed
00:32:04like there's no denying
00:32:05the truth now
00:32:06and my
00:32:06my mind was just so
00:32:08captivated
00:32:09and my
00:32:10my heart was just like
00:32:11I don't know how to explain
00:32:13my emotion on it
00:32:14my heart was like
00:32:15not
00:32:16really
00:32:17um
00:32:18I was moved
00:32:19but so stilted
00:32:20at the same time
00:32:21because this is so
00:32:22such a like
00:32:23so different
00:32:24you know
00:32:24because normally
00:32:25on Stranger Things
00:32:26how it ends
00:32:26is
00:32:27they win
00:32:29they save the day
00:32:30and then they have
00:32:31a cliffhanger
00:32:31for the next season
00:32:33showing that
00:32:34nope
00:32:34the upside down
00:32:36still has some
00:32:37tricks up its sleeve
00:32:38that's usually the ending
00:32:40of them
00:32:40but it's usually
00:32:41a happier note
00:32:42that it ends on
00:32:44where this ending
00:32:44on a more melancholic
00:32:45more bittersweet note
00:32:46I mean granted
00:32:47they tend to have that
00:32:49especially Stranger Things 3
00:32:50but it was still a victory
00:32:51ultimately for them
00:32:52and in here
00:32:53this is
00:32:54like something
00:32:55it's such a gray
00:32:56where
00:32:57you know
00:32:58like last season
00:32:59they won
00:32:59but they lost
00:33:00Hopper
00:33:01and
00:33:02you know
00:33:02Billy died
00:33:03but Billy was also
00:33:04like the villain
00:33:04of that season
00:33:05it was a total asshole
00:33:06as established by
00:33:07in this episode
00:33:08and
00:33:09here
00:33:10it's such a mixture
00:33:12of like
00:33:13there's a lot of
00:33:14terrible things
00:33:15that this is ending on
00:33:17and some victories
00:33:19you know
00:33:20you know
00:33:21yeah yeah yeah
00:33:22there's
00:33:22it's funny
00:33:23it is a very bittersweet
00:33:25and a very heart heavy
00:33:26and a very hard
00:33:27finale
00:33:28and I think
00:33:29there's a benefit
00:33:30I mean it seems like
00:33:30they've always known
00:33:31that
00:33:31I mean since the show
00:33:33started
00:33:33it was a runaway hit
00:33:34so they
00:33:34they probably knew
00:33:35they had carte blanche
00:33:36to continue
00:33:37however they please
00:33:38but there's also
00:33:38something about this season
00:33:39where
00:33:40especially with like
00:33:41the talk
00:33:41among fans
00:33:43as well as the cast
00:33:44of people being like
00:33:45this cast
00:33:46has gotten huge
00:33:46like there's gotta be
00:33:47some like heavy
00:33:49hefty stakes
00:33:50and we've gotta
00:33:50either lose
00:33:51somebody
00:33:52or something
00:33:53along the way
00:33:54and I think
00:33:55that they met
00:33:55that
00:33:56pretty conscientiously
00:33:59here
00:34:00because yeah
00:34:00like there
00:34:01if you look at the math
00:34:03it's like you know
00:34:04we get one major character
00:34:05death
00:34:05and one major character
00:34:07well two
00:34:08if you count Brenner
00:34:09last episode
00:34:09but one major character
00:34:10death for this finale
00:34:11and one major character
00:34:12marring incapacitation
00:34:14etc
00:34:15in Max
00:34:15and I feel like
00:34:17those two things
00:34:18are like
00:34:18it's almost worse
00:34:19than a death
00:34:20what happens to Max
00:34:20because they bring you up
00:34:21to that point of tension
00:34:23where you're like
00:34:23oh my god
00:34:24he's actually gonna do
00:34:25it's like when you see her
00:34:26lift up off the ground
00:34:27I think even there's
00:34:28that moment where you're like
00:34:29no no no
00:34:29this could be fine
00:34:30but then when her limbs
00:34:32start snapping
00:34:32you're like
00:34:33even if they bring her
00:34:34back from this
00:34:35like this is gonna be rough
00:34:36and then yeah
00:34:37the whole back and forth
00:34:39with Eleven
00:34:40and losing her
00:34:41and you know
00:34:42Lucas believing
00:34:43he's actually said goodbye
00:34:44and then Eleven
00:34:45being able to bring her back
00:34:47but it's not
00:34:47the full salvation
00:34:48we're hoping for
00:34:49like I think they
00:34:50they did really nicely
00:34:51to create these
00:34:52back and forth moments
00:34:53of oh no there's hope
00:34:54oh but it's not quite
00:34:56the payoff I was expecting
00:34:57it's not quite the relief
00:34:58I was hoping for
00:34:59there's a chance for Max
00:35:01but I mean we leave off
00:35:02on a note where it's like
00:35:03man but she's in a coma
00:35:05for now
00:35:05and it might not be enough
00:35:07like you know
00:35:08Eleven is able to prolong
00:35:09her life here
00:35:10but she could slip away
00:35:12you know
00:35:12or I doubt that will be the case
00:35:14I think she will come back
00:35:15ultimately
00:35:16but they've at least
00:35:17maneuvered it dramatically
00:35:18into a position
00:35:19where I'm like
00:35:19yeah the toll
00:35:20of whatever victories
00:35:22in this episode
00:35:23was like
00:35:24fought for tooth and nail
00:35:26and yeah
00:35:27the victory
00:35:28clearly doesn't outweigh
00:35:30the distance
00:35:31still left to run
00:35:32yeah
00:35:33and that's yeah
00:35:34I think there's
00:35:34there's something about that
00:35:35where it's like
00:35:36you see there's so many
00:35:37wonderful reunions
00:35:38by the end
00:35:39and there's so many
00:35:39great cathartic
00:35:41tears to shed
00:35:43and there are so many
00:35:44great victories
00:35:45but it's like
00:35:46you can barely
00:35:47bask in them
00:35:48like it doesn't have
00:35:49that note of like
00:35:51the characters
00:35:52for all intents and purposes
00:35:53believe that things
00:35:54are good and fine
00:35:55and you know
00:35:56they're gonna take
00:35:56a vacation from terror
00:35:58for a couple of months
00:35:59until the next season
00:36:00starts
00:36:00whereas this is
00:36:01yeah there are
00:36:02some of those victories
00:36:03but everyone
00:36:04including us
00:36:05the characters
00:36:06everyone's like
00:36:06no no no
00:36:07but things are still
00:36:08arguably worse than ever
00:36:10yeah I mean
00:36:11the cliffhanger here
00:36:12is that
00:36:12something is gonna
00:36:13keep going on
00:36:15it's not gonna be
00:36:16the same thing
00:36:16where like
00:36:17they take a vacation
00:36:18yeah
00:36:18and bam
00:36:19where you know
00:36:20oh a new
00:36:20a new thing
00:36:21is now happening
00:36:22it's gonna be
00:36:24a continuation
00:36:24it's a different
00:36:25cliffhanger to end off on
00:36:26I think it just
00:36:27kind of hits me
00:36:28hit me right now
00:36:29of what happens
00:36:30with me with
00:36:31shows
00:36:32especially shows
00:36:33more than movies
00:36:35because of
00:36:36the committed
00:36:37journey of a character
00:36:38yeah
00:36:39is what happens
00:36:41is
00:36:41is
00:36:41that I think
00:36:43that feeling
00:36:43I was looking for
00:36:44is shock
00:36:44because I
00:36:45I'm grieving
00:36:47and my
00:36:48natural reaction
00:36:49to a death
00:36:51thing
00:36:52like I almost
00:36:52got word today
00:36:53about a pet
00:36:53of mine
00:36:54like it's not
00:36:55the same scale
00:36:56it's actually
00:36:56worse real life
00:36:57but
00:36:58a pet of mine
00:37:01was like
00:37:01a family pet
00:37:03was like
00:37:03I thought it died
00:37:04and my first reaction
00:37:05was just that feeling
00:37:06I had right now
00:37:07just shock
00:37:07and so like
00:37:09when I'm seeing Max there
00:37:10like I don't go to tears
00:37:11when I go around
00:37:13I think
00:37:13I started bargaining
00:37:14in my head
00:37:15I started going
00:37:16like
00:37:16well maybe Max
00:37:18is like
00:37:18you know
00:37:19going to come back
00:37:19with superpowers
00:37:20I started saying shit
00:37:21in my own head
00:37:22and
00:37:22and even with Eddie
00:37:24I was like
00:37:25okay he's bleeding
00:37:25but he might be fine
00:37:26though
00:37:26he might just be
00:37:27still stuck there
00:37:28and he'll be okay
00:37:28like my mind
00:37:29just starts
00:37:29going there
00:37:31instantly
00:37:32you know
00:37:33I'm more likely
00:37:34to like get
00:37:34choked up at
00:37:35like Mike's speech
00:37:37about you know
00:37:37love and
00:37:38fighting for that
00:37:40you know
00:37:40that's why I think
00:37:41that running up the hill
00:37:42episode 4 of this season
00:37:44was so powerful
00:37:44and so memorable
00:37:47for people
00:37:47especially for me
00:37:48like that stuff
00:37:49is the thing
00:37:49that I'm like
00:37:50am I grieving
00:37:50in that moment
00:37:51you know
00:37:52so I have this
00:37:52like natural
00:37:53like defense mechanism
00:37:55that's kind of
00:37:55what comes up
00:37:57in me
00:37:57it's fascinating
00:37:58to see
00:37:59that's kind of
00:37:59what happened
00:37:59with my experience
00:38:00here
00:38:00although with
00:38:01the Eddie death
00:38:01it's a powerful
00:38:04death
00:38:05I mean
00:38:05because obviously
00:38:06it was setting up
00:38:07from even volume 1
00:38:08ending that
00:38:09he's going to do
00:38:09something heroic
00:38:10like it was just
00:38:10so set up
00:38:12and they even
00:38:12reestablish it
00:38:13in this episode
00:38:14he's going to do
00:38:15something heroic
00:38:15to me
00:38:17I did go
00:38:19man what
00:38:20why do they always
00:38:20just
00:38:21why do they kill off
00:38:22like
00:38:22the
00:38:23the new
00:38:25reoccurring
00:38:26Bob
00:38:27and then
00:38:28Alexi
00:38:30Alexi
00:38:31yeah
00:38:31I mean
00:38:32Billy got two seasons
00:38:33so he doesn't count quite
00:38:34but
00:38:35yeah
00:38:35that's true
00:38:36that's true
00:38:37I mean
00:38:37I like how they handled
00:38:38Papa's death
00:38:39but even Papa's
00:38:40a character like
00:38:41he's dead
00:38:42it's not the same
00:38:43thing
00:38:43but it's kind of
00:38:45interesting that like
00:38:46season 3 gave you
00:38:47that complexity
00:38:48with
00:38:49Max and Billy
00:38:50who's the villain
00:38:52and then here you have
00:38:53Papa and Eleven
00:38:54and Papa's a villain
00:38:55so to
00:38:56have
00:38:57a kind of correlation
00:38:58especially when you see
00:38:59this friendship that forms
00:39:00between Max and Eleven
00:39:01it's fascinating stuff
00:39:04I
00:39:04admittedly
00:39:06like I know
00:39:07you very much are
00:39:08and
00:39:09seems like most people
00:39:10are
00:39:11I've always
00:39:12I've really liked
00:39:13Eddie a lot
00:39:13there's
00:39:15there's a lot
00:39:16everyone I talk to
00:39:17like loves
00:39:18Eddie
00:39:18and I don't
00:39:20dislike Eddie
00:39:20one iota
00:39:21there's not one part of me
00:39:22that has a single
00:39:23like
00:39:24gripe or issue
00:39:26or criticism
00:39:26about him
00:39:27for some reason
00:39:27I've just never been
00:39:28as
00:39:29emotionally attached
00:39:31to that character
00:39:32as much as
00:39:33you guys probably are
00:39:35as much as John
00:39:35as much as everyone else
00:39:36I know
00:39:37is
00:39:37I'm kind of the odd
00:39:38one out like
00:39:39I don't know
00:39:40I just don't quite love him
00:39:41I just don't have that
00:39:43that's
00:39:44strong of an attachment
00:39:46I was like more
00:39:46endeared to Bob
00:39:47than I was to Eddie
00:39:48and
00:39:49I did love Bob
00:39:50yeah
00:39:51but that was another thing too
00:39:52where I got really choked up
00:39:53on my rewatch
00:39:54but here with
00:39:56and so I'm
00:39:56I will rewatch this
00:39:58especially before
00:39:59volume season five
00:40:00comes out
00:40:01I'm going to rewatch it
00:40:02and I am curious to see
00:40:03if I'm like
00:40:04oh yeah no
00:40:04I'm definitely more attached
00:40:05this time
00:40:06but as far as his death goes
00:40:07that was
00:40:08that was very
00:40:09that was beautifully done
00:40:11and I think
00:40:11the fact that
00:40:13I don't
00:40:14who's the actor
00:40:15who plays Dustin
00:40:15so good
00:40:16oh
00:40:17Gaten Matarazzo
00:40:18so good
00:40:18so amazing
00:40:19and I love that
00:40:20they gave
00:40:20they trusted in their actors
00:40:22who have not only
00:40:22physically grown
00:40:23but grown as actors
00:40:25and that
00:40:25they allowed them
00:40:26to show that
00:40:27you got that with Dustin
00:40:28where
00:40:29you know
00:40:30like those are real tears
00:40:31you know
00:40:31oh that was heartbreaking
00:40:33lip quiver
00:40:33you know that's real
00:40:34oh my god
00:40:37you know what
00:40:38what just hit me now too
00:40:39is so many of those moments
00:40:40are so desolate
00:40:41and lonely
00:40:42it's like
00:40:42with Dustin and Eddie
00:40:44they're pretty much alone
00:40:46and I love
00:40:46the monologue
00:40:47he gives to his uncle
00:40:49at the end
00:40:50and he doesn't even
00:40:52speak back to him
00:40:53but it's just that thing
00:40:54of like
00:40:54only the two of us
00:40:55basically know
00:40:56like the rest of their friends
00:40:57know
00:40:57but only Dustin
00:40:58was there
00:40:59for this incredibly
00:41:00lonely act of valiance
00:41:02and I feel like
00:41:03there's a lot of that
00:41:04throughout the episode
00:41:05with the way
00:41:05everyone is divided
00:41:07and I think that
00:41:07even though that was
00:41:08brought on
00:41:09partly by real world
00:41:10constraints
00:41:10they made a lot
00:41:11out of it ultimately
00:41:12especially with Eleven
00:41:14being able to traverse
00:41:15the gap
00:41:16and to you know
00:41:17join them
00:41:17you know
00:41:18in the mindscape
00:41:19and but that even too
00:41:21just like Lucas
00:41:22and Max alone
00:41:23not even knowing
00:41:24Eleven is there
00:41:25and then she's
00:41:26kind of alone
00:41:27because she can't
00:41:28directly communicate
00:41:29to either of them
00:41:29either
00:41:30sort of Max
00:41:31but still
00:41:32like there's
00:41:33yeah so much
00:41:34going wrong
00:41:36and so much
00:41:36that's like
00:41:37so lonely
00:41:37and desperate
00:41:38about all these
00:41:39situations
00:41:39there's so much
00:41:40isolation
00:41:41well Caleb
00:41:42McLaughlin
00:41:43is Lucas
00:41:44yeah
00:41:44even him too
00:41:48like his
00:41:48I didn't really
00:41:49feel like he
00:41:50there's no insult
00:41:52or slight towards him
00:41:53I didn't
00:41:54there's just
00:41:54there wasn't much
00:41:55for me
00:41:56in the
00:41:57prior to the
00:41:58final episode
00:41:58I think that's
00:42:00what they really
00:42:00got down
00:42:01in this one
00:42:02more than
00:42:02anything else
00:42:03that I think
00:42:03is so important
00:42:04was not only
00:42:05stakes and
00:42:05revelations
00:42:06or reveals
00:42:07but they
00:42:09really gave
00:42:10most
00:42:12I would say
00:42:13can't really think
00:42:14of anyone
00:42:14off the top
00:42:14of my head
00:42:14where I'm like
00:42:15nah
00:42:15they kind of
00:42:16could have done
00:42:16more
00:42:17but most
00:42:18definitely got
00:42:19a true scene
00:42:21to shine
00:42:21and
00:42:23and paid off
00:42:23somehow
00:42:24and Lucas
00:42:25you know
00:42:26especially to have
00:42:27that level
00:42:28like you were
00:42:28saying
00:42:28desperation
00:42:29and heartbreak
00:42:30like he's
00:42:31a changed
00:42:32person
00:42:32and a different
00:42:33human being
00:42:34by the
00:42:36final scene
00:42:36that he has
00:42:37here
00:42:37like he's
00:42:38broken
00:42:38he's shattered
00:42:39and
00:42:40you know
00:42:42he's like
00:42:42becoming a man
00:42:43praying to God
00:42:44in a way
00:42:44you know
00:42:45and I
00:42:45I think he did
00:42:47such an incredible
00:42:47job in this
00:42:48episode
00:42:49like he brought
00:42:50his A-game
00:42:50so did the
00:42:51actor plays
00:42:52Dustin
00:42:52they were
00:42:53they were all
00:42:53so excellent
00:42:54I think this
00:42:55episode really
00:42:56excelled
00:42:57at
00:42:58because halfway
00:43:00I think it's
00:43:01around the
00:43:01halfway point
00:43:02when you know
00:43:03Eleven shows up
00:43:04to help
00:43:05fight Vecna
00:43:06and then Vecna
00:43:07brings Eleven
00:43:08and Max
00:43:09to his
00:43:09red
00:43:10Creel
00:43:11outdoorsy
00:43:12spot
00:43:13the four
00:43:14points
00:43:15four chime
00:43:15points
00:43:15yeah
00:43:16and it was
00:43:18there I was
00:43:18going like
00:43:19wow
00:43:19they're really
00:43:20selling me
00:43:21that
00:43:21you know
00:43:22Vecna's
00:43:22gonna win
00:43:23wow
00:43:23they're really
00:43:24selling me
00:43:24on this
00:43:25but then
00:43:26you know
00:43:26I'm like
00:43:26but
00:43:27come on
00:43:28man
00:43:28still got
00:43:29like an
00:43:29hour left
00:43:29they're probably
00:43:30gonna win
00:43:31you know
00:43:31something
00:43:32something's
00:43:32gonna
00:43:32happen
00:43:33right
00:43:34something
00:43:34always
00:43:35comes along
00:43:35to save
00:43:36the two
00:43:36Simpson
00:43:36children
00:43:37but then
00:43:38when Eleven
00:43:39you know
00:43:40got the upper
00:43:41hand on him
00:43:42and it was
00:43:42exciting
00:43:43what I
00:43:44what I loved
00:43:46is Vecna's
00:43:47confidence
00:43:47just never
00:43:48swayed
00:43:49he was so
00:43:51assured
00:43:51all the
00:43:52time
00:43:53like
00:43:53all the
00:43:54time
00:43:54even when
00:43:55he's like
00:43:55looking
00:43:55pushed up
00:43:56against the
00:43:56wall
00:43:57he's like
00:43:59you've already
00:43:59lost
00:44:00come at me
00:44:02bro
00:44:02I love that
00:44:04I absolutely
00:44:05I really love
00:44:05that
00:44:06and you gotta
00:44:06pull Michael
00:44:07Myers
00:44:07didn't he
00:44:08run downstairs
00:44:09not there
00:44:09yeah
00:44:09so funny
00:44:10yeah
00:44:12oh my god
00:44:13totally
00:44:13and I think
00:44:16what's
00:44:17fascinating
00:44:18is now that
00:44:19you know
00:44:19Vecna's
00:44:20true identity
00:44:21has been
00:44:21revealed
00:44:22I feel like
00:44:24this is probably
00:44:25purposeful
00:44:26is
00:44:27they
00:44:28allowed
00:44:29whoever
00:44:30I don't know
00:44:30the actor's name
00:44:31whoever plays
00:44:32Henry Vecna
00:44:33won
00:44:33Jamie Campbell
00:44:34Bauer
00:44:34you think
00:44:36like you think
00:44:37I know you know
00:44:37there's three names
00:44:38I could have easily
00:44:39gotten one wrong
00:44:40I know you know
00:44:41I know there's a
00:44:42Bauer in there
00:44:42there's specialty
00:44:43that name
00:44:44name memory
00:44:45it's a great
00:44:46quality to have
00:44:47I feel like
00:44:50they let him
00:44:51play Vecna
00:44:53more human
00:44:54in both of
00:44:55these episodes
00:44:56like his body
00:44:57language
00:44:58the way he did
00:44:58his dialogue
00:44:59whereas before
00:45:00he was kind of
00:45:02just a presence
00:45:02just a monster
00:45:03very stoic
00:45:05you know
00:45:06just like
00:45:07the demonic
00:45:08entity that
00:45:09comes to claim
00:45:10a soul
00:45:10but here
00:45:12in both
00:45:13these episodes
00:45:14you're like
00:45:15oh this is
00:45:15I see the
00:45:16I see the
00:45:17Henry in there
00:45:18now
00:45:18and I think
00:45:19both episodes
00:45:20let that happen
00:45:21yeah he goes
00:45:22from being a
00:45:22boogeyman
00:45:23to being
00:45:23no that's
00:45:24a specific
00:45:24person
00:45:25that's a
00:45:26burnt body
00:45:26yeah that's
00:45:27a burnt up
00:45:28body
00:45:28that's probably
00:45:29had even more
00:45:30craziness done
00:45:31to it in the
00:45:31time that we
00:45:32haven't observed
00:45:33his upside down
00:45:34journey
00:45:34like yeah
00:45:35and then you
00:45:35feel the kind
00:45:36of agelessness
00:45:37that he has
00:45:38transcended into
00:45:39it's a great
00:45:40performance and I
00:45:41love the way
00:45:41that they
00:45:42I mean
00:45:42from what I've
00:45:43heard
00:45:44what the Duffer
00:45:45Brothers have
00:45:45said a lot
00:45:46of that effect
00:45:47is practical
00:45:47and I thought
00:45:48they did a
00:45:48really great
00:45:49job of
00:45:50marrying all
00:45:51three elements
00:45:52of like that's
00:45:53clearly a lot of
00:45:54silicone and
00:45:54makeup on top
00:45:55of him and
00:45:56there's clearly
00:45:56CGI enhancing
00:45:57that but
00:45:58especially you
00:45:58point out during
00:45:59the reactions
00:45:59like this is
00:46:00the most we've
00:46:01ever kind of
00:46:02seen the actor
00:46:03in the character
00:46:05and I think that
00:46:06was a beautiful
00:46:07kind of way to
00:46:08put that together
00:46:09as sort of
00:46:10Freddy Krueger
00:46:10and Resident Evil
00:46:11and different things
00:46:12you can kind of
00:46:13reference out of
00:46:14it it did start
00:46:15to feel yeah
00:46:16more like a
00:46:17even in that
00:46:18respect like not
00:46:19even just through
00:46:19the writing and
00:46:20everything but
00:46:20yeah through the
00:46:21combination of
00:46:22all that movie
00:46:23magic you know
00:46:24it really did
00:46:25feel like a
00:46:26particular person
00:46:28and that was
00:46:29what started to
00:46:29make me feel
00:46:30like this was
00:46:31kind of a
00:46:31different send
00:46:32off for a
00:46:33season because
00:46:34I was like
00:46:34they've gone
00:46:35out of their
00:46:35way to establish
00:46:36just how
00:46:37singular and
00:46:38important this
00:46:40entity of the
00:46:41Upside Down
00:46:41is in a lot
00:46:43of ways he
00:46:43kind of you
00:46:44know got
00:46:45there and
00:46:45and gave
00:46:46order to the
00:46:47whole thing
00:46:47in a perverse
00:46:48way and so
00:46:49even if we
00:46:51somehow vanquish
00:46:52him for now
00:46:53like it's not
00:46:54the end like
00:46:55it can't be the
00:46:56end like it's
00:46:56weird it's there
00:46:57are so many ways
00:46:59in which you can
00:46:59end these seasons
00:47:00and go okay
00:47:01there will still
00:47:01be more upside
00:47:02down hijinks to
00:47:04manage next season
00:47:05but for right now
00:47:06we vanquished
00:47:07whichever boss
00:47:08and I didn't get
00:47:08that feeling this
00:47:09time and I
00:47:10think again
00:47:12like this show
00:47:13over time
00:47:14from my viewing
00:47:15experience the
00:47:16first time
00:47:17especially it was
00:47:18sort of an
00:47:18increasing thing
00:47:19where each season
00:47:19I liked it a bit
00:47:20more and this
00:47:21has been
00:47:21well it took
00:47:22you I remember
00:47:23it took you
00:47:23some time to
00:47:24get through it
00:47:25yeah yeah yeah
00:47:25I had to restart
00:47:26the first season
00:47:27a couple times
00:47:27then I finally
00:47:28kind of yeah
00:47:29cut the wavelength
00:47:30and then just the
00:47:31further I got
00:47:32season two I
00:47:33liked even more
00:47:33season three
00:47:34liked even more
00:47:34season four I've
00:47:35been loving and
00:47:36I feel like
00:47:37again they've made
00:47:38it feel like
00:47:40something special
00:47:41both in that
00:47:43yeah I mean it's
00:47:44all the stuff that
00:47:44we love is back
00:47:45and there's all
00:47:46the easily latch
00:47:48on able elements
00:47:49but also I think
00:47:50they just really
00:47:50came with the
00:47:52characters and the
00:47:53writing in a way
00:47:54that feels like a
00:47:56passion project for
00:47:57everyone involved
00:47:58and I mean they
00:47:58said like Max
00:47:59Sadie Sink wrote
00:48:01the letter that she
00:48:02reads to Billy
00:48:03things like that
00:48:05I'm like I really
00:48:05feel like everyone
00:48:06even the Jamie
00:48:08Campbell Bauer
00:48:09like everyone
00:48:09seems like they
00:48:10they really brought
00:48:12a ton of like
00:48:13heart and soul
00:48:14to what this is
00:48:15and even characters
00:48:16who were underserved
00:48:17perhaps earlier on
00:48:19in the season or who
00:48:20weren't as focused on
00:48:21or who we would sit
00:48:22here and go it
00:48:22doesn't really seem
00:48:23like they're the
00:48:23most important part
00:48:24of this we kind of
00:48:25check back in just
00:48:26to make sure we
00:48:26don't forget them
00:48:27like everything by
00:48:28the end of this
00:48:29at least felt like
00:48:30it had a button or
00:48:31it had a moment to
00:48:31gleam and and
00:48:33everybody's emotional
00:48:34journey in some way
00:48:35kind of contributed
00:48:36to the greater
00:48:37whole well Mike
00:48:39Finn Wolfhardt I
00:48:42can confidently say
00:48:43now is not one of
00:48:45the leads he no he
00:48:47is a supporting
00:48:49character yeah and
00:48:51it's it's it's
00:48:52interesting because the
00:48:54show seemed to kind
00:48:55of go up in its way
00:48:56granted it worked and
00:48:57it was very effective
00:48:59and it moved me a lot
00:49:00so I I'm not gonna
00:49:02fault it it did seem
00:49:03like it was kind of
00:49:04going out of it be
00:49:05like here's why Mike's
00:49:06important it's the
00:49:08Xander thing it's like
00:49:09you're important because
00:49:10you're regular and you
00:49:11got a lot of heart
00:49:12buddy yeah keep us
00:49:13together while all of
00:49:14us specials are out
00:49:15doing special stuff and
00:49:17losing our minds yeah
00:49:18and like especially
00:49:20this and maybe it'll
00:49:21change in the following
00:49:22season but he's
00:49:23progressively it seems
00:49:24like they've
00:49:25progressively been
00:49:25finding less and
00:49:27less things to write
00:49:28for him to make him
00:49:28compelling and just as
00:49:30interesting as the rest
00:49:30of the cast and then
00:49:32here it wasn't it
00:49:34wasn't until the final
00:49:35episode where it was
00:49:36like all right okay
00:49:38cool Mike I like I
00:49:39like you a lot again
00:49:40hell yeah interesting to
00:49:42watch that because yeah
00:49:43I feel like in some
00:49:44ways in some ways I
00:49:46think it's cool because
00:49:47then you allow
00:49:48characters like you know
00:49:49you know talking with
00:49:50other people I've heard
00:49:51people say like oh it's
00:49:51cool that like Lucas
00:49:52gets to be an actual
00:49:54character with like a
00:49:55really well an arc that
00:49:57you can invest in and
00:49:58him and Max and all that
00:49:59stuff is really great
00:49:59this season and I feel
00:50:00like pushing characters
00:50:02like Mike to the
00:50:04background a little bit
00:50:05is natural over four
00:50:07or five seasons it's
00:50:08weird it's like I know
00:50:10people love Finn Wolfhard
00:50:12I very much enjoyed him
00:50:13over the show but it
00:50:14kind of feels natural the
00:50:15way that all these
00:50:16characters have kind of
00:50:17slid around even if
00:50:18there are parts where we
00:50:19go man Will just keeps
00:50:21getting the short end
00:50:21of this like Will even
00:50:23here it felt like they
00:50:24made something out of
00:50:25the fact that he's
00:50:26always kind of in the
00:50:27background yeah and
00:50:28separated from
00:50:29everybody and and it's
00:50:31things like that I
00:50:32think it's like they're
00:50:33able to use distance
00:50:34better perhaps than
00:50:37before in certain ways
00:50:39although it is
00:50:40interesting to see that
00:50:40that yeah it is almost
00:50:41decidedly so here that
00:50:43yeah like Mike is not
00:50:44the focal point really
00:50:46no not at all I mean
00:50:48that that whole it kind
00:50:50of seems like what I
00:50:51said about Mike could
00:50:52be applied to everyone
00:50:53on that plot line
00:50:54Jonathan definitely
00:50:57doesn't feel anywhere
00:50:58near it it's been that
00:50:59way since season three
00:51:00doesn't feel anywhere
00:51:01and a lot of people
00:51:02have speculated that it
00:51:03might have something to
00:51:03do with the act Charlie
00:51:04Heaton's personal life
00:51:05and him that whole that
00:51:09whole plot Argyle became
00:51:10more essential in this in
00:51:12this last couple episodes
00:51:13team Argyle boy I love
00:51:14the everything with the
00:51:16pizza shop just well it's
00:51:17great that was great and
00:51:19I'm glad they managed to
00:51:20really make that work
00:51:21because that could have
00:51:23been silly as hell and
00:51:24they somehow it was like
00:51:26it was such a funny thing
00:51:27to have start and the
00:51:29whole intercutting with
00:51:29him making the pizza but
00:51:31then you're like knees
00:51:32deep in the conflict and
00:51:33they're actually doing it
00:51:34and she's you know in the
00:51:35tub and you're just like I
00:51:36forgot all about pizza
00:51:37this feels totally serious
00:51:40where this was funny as
00:51:41heck a minute ago I
00:51:42enjoyed them I wasn't
00:51:44really enjoying it in the
00:51:46volume one but volume two
00:51:47everything about them in
00:51:48this volume was really good
00:51:50and I kind of it's
00:51:51interesting seeing how
00:51:52they end note with
00:51:53because season one ended
00:51:55with Nancy and Steve
00:51:58still together with
00:51:59Jonathan pining over her
00:52:00and her being like maybe
00:52:02I should have gone with
00:52:03Jonathan and then the
00:52:05season ends the complete
00:52:06opposite for her of
00:52:08there there's some tension
00:52:10with them and she's like
00:52:11maybe I should have gone
00:52:12to Steve and it did kind
00:52:16of Steve got two weeks
00:52:19express how he's already
00:52:21art yeah does that make
00:52:23sense he gets he got to
00:52:24completely actualize his
00:52:27arc yeah we didn't get to
00:52:28we didn't see necessarily
00:52:30how he art and even see
00:52:31him we don't see him art in
00:52:33this specific season but he
00:52:36gets to express how he's
00:52:38changed he becomes more
00:52:40mature and better at
00:52:41articulating his maturity as
00:52:43time goes on yeah yeah yeah I
00:52:45think they did a great job at
00:52:46that because it seemed like
00:52:47there's some stuff that was
00:52:48happening in between season
00:52:50three and four worth that a
00:52:51lot of that already took
00:52:52place that allowed him to do
00:52:53the decisions here unless I'm
00:52:56wrong you can tell me and and
00:52:58Robin getting a chance at love
00:53:01at the very end was very very
00:53:02sweet I saw a tweet somebody
00:53:04said like it's pride month and
00:53:05the Duffer brothers was taking
00:53:07it out on the gaze and it was
00:53:08just two still frames of one of
00:53:11Robin watching as the girl
00:53:14kisses the guy in the vet store
00:53:16and then Will as Eleven and
00:53:19Mike reunite but I appreciate
00:53:21it's funny it seems like like
00:53:24Robin and that girl are
00:53:25probably gonna get together or
00:53:27become good friends hopefully it
00:53:28certainly seemed like there was
00:53:30she's probably just bisexual or
00:53:31something but I appreciate too
00:53:33that as much as people are like
00:53:34just say it already with some of
00:53:35these like whose sexuality is
00:53:37what things I kind of like that
00:53:38they still leave them on like I
00:53:43thought the moment between it was
00:53:45funny there's the 80s in the
00:53:47Midwest like yeah we're gonna be
00:53:49like sweet yeah yeah oh you
00:53:52should have told us a long time
00:53:54ago yeah and I and I thought
00:53:55that they're the ones really kind
00:53:57of argument but they're the ones
00:53:59who go freaking Dungeons and
00:54:01Dragons a certain they're gonna be
00:54:04the ones who are like homosexuals
00:54:06though totally cool they're not
00:54:08in with the devil whatsoever but
00:54:11yeah that scene in the pizza shop
00:54:14again between Will and Jonathan I
00:54:16thought was really beautifully done
00:54:17and I thought that was a great a
00:54:19part of it felt like they were
00:54:21literally being like hey I know we
00:54:24haven't been as important lately and
00:54:26I know that we have been distant from
00:54:27the audience and us as characters
00:54:28but you know I feel like we should
00:54:30talk some more but but beyond that
00:54:32beyond like the weird meta layer I
00:54:35just love that that that little beat
00:54:37of like no matter what like it's the
00:54:40it's he says it without saying it I
00:54:42thought that was a really beautifully
00:54:44played scene because it still doesn't
00:54:45come right out and say it it could not
00:54:48be what we're all reading into but at
00:54:51the same time it was it was such a great
00:54:52brother moment which you don't see a
00:54:55lot of like I thought they've done as
00:54:57much as people bemoan wokeness they've
00:54:59done a nice job of going different ways
00:55:03with trope-ish relationships and
00:55:06elevating or pushing to the forefront
00:55:08certain characters who wouldn't
00:55:09normally be in a way that feels very
00:55:12natural because of the ensemble they
00:55:14have built and I think that's a really
00:55:15cool thing that they're able to do
00:55:17without it feeling like somebody's
00:55:19spreadsheet says they should add
00:55:21somebody of this or that you know
00:55:23disposition well season two they had a
00:55:26lot of Jonathan and and like that was a
00:55:29big like I love Jonathan in season one
00:55:33and two he's excellent absolutely like
00:55:35the Byers family was like the main
00:55:37characters of season one and and
00:55:41Jonathan was excellent a big part of him
00:55:43in season two was his his older brother
00:55:47and says the need to take care of him and
00:55:49and so to kind of remind us of that was
00:55:53awesome Sadie Sink oh boy brilliant I
00:55:57I love when she in order to get to
00:55:59Beckna she has to she has to get to a
00:56:02place of truth and honesty and not just
00:56:04taunt him out allure him out with you
00:56:09know and trying to antagonize him it's
00:56:11good for that it's good for both
00:56:13characters that they chose that yeah
00:56:15especially because it's it was such a
00:56:18fascinating dichotomy to see how she
00:56:22actually kind of benefited from it I
00:56:25gotta come to the point of truth about
00:56:28her emotions when it comes back to
00:56:30something I think we were talking
00:56:31about during the first half which was
00:56:33like she's she says all those you know
00:56:35beautiful things about Billy in that
00:56:37letter and everything but what about the
00:56:40other side of that where he did make
00:56:42your life a living hell most of the time
00:56:44and I love that they brought it back to
00:56:46that and that yeah it's like you have
00:56:48this plan and you're gearing up and
00:56:50you're like oh here we go but no yeah
00:56:52you you really do have to sacrifice
00:56:54something and to put yourself in a
00:56:56truly vulnerable position to be that
00:57:00bait a thousand percent yeah and just
00:57:03the way she acts everything is
00:57:06beautiful like every beat and even
00:57:09including you know like the like you
00:57:10were saying like the like I jitters and
00:57:13all like the sci-fi shit like is just so
00:57:15natural she's one of the strongest
00:57:17actors on the show a hundred percent
00:57:19she's she's one of the absolute best
00:57:21actors yeah and that's why I was like
00:57:24you can't lose backs yeah no I mean I
00:57:27was just in shock when she was like in
00:57:29Lucas's arms and he was crying and and
00:57:32then her she couldn't see I was like oh
00:57:33my god are they really doing this right
00:57:35now yeah I was more like my mind starts
00:57:38going to other places I'm like with the
00:57:40Netflix do this I mean would they want to
00:57:42do this I mean she's especially with how
00:57:45freak like Max has always seemed to be
00:57:48really liked I'm talking like general
00:57:50people I know love her I think the love
00:57:53for her just had this massive uptick
00:57:57from volume one it just it went so much
00:58:01higher up once people saw episode four
00:58:03was over yeah no I mean it just skyrocketed
00:58:07for her and you know and she's had kind
00:58:09of a fascinating as the actress she's had
00:58:11an interesting journey to come into season
00:58:15two when you're gonna be part of the main
00:58:18kids when the main kids was stranger
00:58:20things like that was stranger things
00:58:22where the kids the like Mike Lucas Dustin
00:58:26will that was the image and then now you're
00:58:31joining them you're gonna be part of the group
00:58:33now get in there and that's a lot to live
00:58:35up to it's a lot of pressure I'd imagine
00:58:37and and I think she kind of outshines all
00:58:41then to be totally honest it's funny yeah I
00:58:43mean because it's so I mean and and hey
00:58:45great performances Millie Bobby Brown is
00:58:48great but Dustin's were a hard one for
00:58:50really it's got Dustin edited kids it's
00:58:53Dustin 11 is a whole separate category
00:58:55Dustin yeah and um and Max are my
00:58:58favorites of the kids oh for sure and but
00:59:00I feel like yeah it used to be that the
00:59:02kid conversation was like everyone loves
00:59:04Finn Wolf hard but Millie Bobby Brown is
00:59:06just like a terrific actress which she is
00:59:08not gonna take anything away from that
00:59:10but I feel like as of this season the
00:59:12conversation shifted a little bit to
00:59:14like Sadie Sink is so friggin good yeah
00:59:16and and deservedly so because I mean
00:59:18she's always been great on the show and
00:59:20even you know just watching little
00:59:21flashback snippets you're like oh wow
00:59:23like how far we have come and and how
00:59:25interesting it has been to watch these
00:59:27actors grow on screen yeah but yeah like
00:59:31she does feel like she's always been part
00:59:35of the group even though she is the
00:59:37newer addition to the I like the I mean
00:59:40Millie Bobby Brown's just always been
00:59:43like such a standout since since day one
00:59:47of this show she's been absolutely
00:59:49phenomenal if any character has grown the
00:59:53most it's her and here she is like
00:59:58season three she's like learning to be a
00:59:59kid it didn't really bring back some of
01:00:01the other stuff I mean she's back in the
01:00:03hiding now right like she has to be she
01:00:05has to be hidden again she's exposed she
01:00:08can't just go back to high school and
01:00:09kill Angela you know season five like
01:00:12she's not destined for normality
01:00:14whatsoever but yeah you know her
01:00:18learning to embrace her position as some
01:00:21as the one who will need to be a hero I
01:00:23like the position they leave her in as
01:00:25someone who feels the loss at what they
01:00:27did you know and I'm like well if you're
01:00:29painting her as a superhero that's a great
01:00:32way to paint her as a superhero not as
01:00:34Miss Invincible who shows up at the end of
01:00:37every season to hold her hand up and save
01:00:39the day you know so I really really liked
01:00:43how it's it's they've created a a personal
01:00:47entanglement with her and the main
01:00:49antagonist and her relation to the upside
01:00:53down as she actually didn't create the
01:00:55upside down but she is the you know the the
01:00:58villain blame it gives responsibility bestows
01:01:01it on her she had a hand the creation get
01:01:03here yeah and I think like my bar round
01:01:07just fucking kills it like she she's so
01:01:10unbelievably believable I know and and with
01:01:15enough time and distance in in some ways
01:01:18before revisiting it's like oh you know you
01:01:20you lose some of the finer points but but
01:01:23then you jump back in I don't know there's
01:01:25just something about that like you know 11 has a
01:01:27very specific like she doesn't talk a lot she
01:01:29has a very specific syntax and cadence is the
01:01:32most she's talked though yeah it is but it
01:01:35always is in that void like she's there's just
01:01:38something yeah it's like the way she realizes
01:01:41the character and the little ticks and
01:01:43mannerisms are so consistent and so well
01:01:46trodden and again it's like it's such an
01:01:49outlandish character to have to bring to
01:01:50life you know especially a character who
01:01:53doesn't have a lot of foundational nurture
01:01:55based on anything normal and so yeah just
01:01:59like the ways in which all those little
01:02:01human emotions that you know she's still
01:02:03learning how to deal with and articulate
01:02:05like that all feels so authentic but then
01:02:07yeah the the parts in which she is in her
01:02:10element in such outlandish circumstances
01:02:12like it's such a fully realized character
01:02:17and and the way she's built it since she was
01:02:20you know a kid is is again fascinating to
01:02:24watch and and every season it still feels
01:02:27like a consistent through line like i never
01:02:29feel like there's something that was
01:02:30missing or there was like a chunk out of
01:02:32like why is she acting like this now well i
01:02:33think what she brings that's really unique
01:02:36to beyond beyond just the actual acting
01:02:39parts and scenes and stuff is she she has
01:02:44such a great grasp on physicality i don't
01:02:48know quite how to although try to articulate
01:02:50it um she has a like when she she brings
01:02:56something to the table when she is moving
01:02:58something with her mind and her her hand is
01:03:00up in the air and she understands the emotion
01:03:03per each individual scene of what physical
01:03:08toll is taking on her body in that moment
01:03:12whether it's on what her strength level is
01:03:15of 11 in each scene you know she could show
01:03:18up confident and it doesn't look hard sometimes
01:03:21it could be really hard and when she's like
01:03:23trapped when doing when vexnus has her in the
01:03:26in the tangled vines you know and or when she
01:03:29is like trying to find the strength when mike's
01:03:31you know echoing like you're a superhero i love
01:03:34you there is this like pain and struggle that
01:03:40she brings that feels like so believable that
01:03:45that's i think a big part why you root for her
01:03:47in those action moments and why they're so
01:03:51cheerworthy too because you could feel this
01:03:55person trying to triumph over something that
01:03:59is harsh on them on them well it's almost as if
01:04:03every time she has to do that she's directly
01:04:05running through the traumas that led her i think
01:04:08that's been a great benefit since the start
01:04:11of the show is the fact that as awesome as
01:04:12her power is it's always been this sort of
01:04:15difficult byproduct of a very traumatic
01:04:17experiment well that's what's cool when she
01:04:20does like when she first shows up in in uh
01:04:22in max's mind and she's controlling she she
01:04:26has in fact a levitated it's not hurting
01:04:28it doesn't look like it's a physical pain like
01:04:30she's got a nosebleed but it's not like
01:04:31tough used to that now yeah yeah yeah yeah well
01:04:34and even even to just like the the physical
01:04:36articulation and as seen as in the previous
01:04:39episode with the helicopter it's like
01:04:41there you know it literally hit me part way
01:04:44through i was like okay so it's not the star
01:04:46wars like you know not ray yeah it really
01:04:49does there's even just in the body language of
01:04:53how she holds her hand like it's a it's a
01:04:54delicate thing almost it's you can just sort
01:04:56of feel the energy but that doesn't have to
01:04:59be this like but sometimes it is that
01:05:01but when it does get to that point yeah it's
01:05:04like there are these like subtle articulations
01:05:07and these subtle you know postures and
01:05:09motions but you notice those subtle
01:05:13differences when it does become like the i
01:05:16guess that's it is like they not every time
01:05:18it happens is the most intense time so
01:05:20they but that's what i mean by she has a
01:05:22great understanding of where her character
01:05:24is at in the moment yeah of her power set
01:05:27and i and that and that's such a defining
01:05:29part of her character and i and i i think
01:05:32that it's something that should not be
01:05:34overlooked because she knows how to be in
01:05:36pain turmoil physically she knows how to
01:05:39play that so well and she knows how to play
01:05:42confidence and anger and conquering fear
01:05:45like she's so multi-layered and uh i love i
01:05:49just love everything she does so yeah i think
01:05:53uh she's she's excellent here her getting
01:05:55to reunite with hopper at the end beautiful
01:05:58um oh boy that whole plot line yeah there's
01:06:01a whole plot line there all that stuff in
01:06:04russia like did that actually affect what
01:06:08was going on it seemed like you know with
01:06:11the power of editing that it did uh but i
01:06:13wasn't entirely sure like how is them
01:06:15stopping the demo core is it because the
01:06:17particles were connected to everything that
01:06:21was happening so the particles by dispersing
01:06:24into the democorgons by taking out the
01:06:26democorgons that is helping to take down
01:06:28like the bats and shit and and and the
01:06:31upside down while they were there is that am i
01:06:34am i getting that right i think this is the
01:06:35most direct connection i mean part of me
01:06:37could use a little clarification because the
01:06:40the hive mind thing i was like well i guess if
01:06:41you attack anything from the upside down i
01:06:43guess it all counts as the upside down being
01:06:46like what is happening uh but yeah i mean
01:06:49ultimately i read it as i guess this is
01:06:51helping create enough chaos and cacophony and
01:06:53distraction for the upside down because yeah
01:06:56you've got eddie dealing with the bats you've
01:06:58got them beating up on demogorgons you've got
01:07:00all these things happening and that's throwing
01:07:02vecna's focus for a loop um i did think
01:07:06speaking of cacophony i did think they brought a
01:07:08great sense they knew how to capture cacophony
01:07:12yes they did like because it was that that middle
01:07:15chunk was just pure chaos oh yeah and it just
01:07:18kept getting worse and worse and worse and you're
01:07:20cutting between three different types of horror
01:07:22that are all connected you know you got you got
01:07:25spooky haunted hospital or haunted prison
01:07:28experimental lab prison horror with in russia
01:07:32you got you know spooky supernatural freaking um you
01:07:37know uh nightmare on elm street like horror
01:07:39uh and so i i thought they just did such a great
01:07:42job at throwing you of cutting to all these
01:07:46different things and it just wouldn't it was kind of
01:07:48relentless yeah and not and how it didn't like
01:07:51like just wouldn't let you go and it was exciting but also
01:07:54get really like situational wise just really scary yeah and i
01:08:00mean yeah it all contributes like even though you're you're
01:08:03cutting between you know you're cutting between this is one
01:08:06story happening here and there's another story happening
01:08:08here you know because of that you know sort of shared effect on
01:08:12the overall situation and because we care about all these people yeah it reaches
01:08:16this like fever pitch of everyone is you know is throwing this is the
01:08:21critical moment for everyone involved everyone is exerting everybody is
01:08:25fighting back and these are the the moments that will decide you know kind of
01:08:29the fate and i feel like yeah that that definitely does create a palpable
01:08:33sense of chaos without it being the bad kind of like i don't think the
01:08:38filmmakers really knew what they were doing it's like controlled chaos where
01:08:41yeah you feel the sort of desperation and intensity of it all and yeah i love
01:08:47all the different notes that they do throughout this and and i mean
01:08:50you know the stuff in russia is more plot oriented general it's more action
01:08:56oriented in that yeah they basically need to
01:08:58go back to the prison figure out what's going on there
01:09:01and fight back but uh i don't know just like that ensemble
01:09:05even as much as people have have had issue with that being a quirkier story
01:09:10and a more heightened story uh just like i loved uh what david harbour has
01:09:16been doing this whole season like just the way hopper has become this sort of
01:09:19like very deliberate he's got this like very calm very focused delivery on
01:09:25things and the way he plays off of joyce and uh you know even he's a changed
01:09:32man completely like this popper performance is vastly different than
01:09:38yeah the hopper who just progressively got more and more like heavier and grumpier
01:09:44yeah yeah yeah now he's like leaned out and he's he's something that's like
01:09:50accepting yeah and um like even his performance at the very end i i think
01:09:56you know they don't quite lay out in the dialogue how he's changed
01:10:02but it shows in his performance and the and beyond just him losing a bunch of weight
01:10:06it's it shows so much by yes by allowing the audience to kind of fill in
01:10:12like the experiences this guy has had and by lamenting a couple of monologues
01:10:17like at least one i can think of um yeah it shows how he you know he finds a purpose
01:10:23and a confidence and he does seem like more in tune with that loving side in him now because
01:10:29he's found an appreciation and the other seasons he he does like so like grumpy and i love i've
01:10:37always loved hopper oh yeah i always love that david i like how but but in season three became a
01:10:43little much for me with hopper at times yeah like he was just like buffoonish you know and and uh
01:10:52because he was always like the angry cool grumpy kind of guy with a lot of pain but he had such a
01:10:57heart and he was like you felt safe when he was around yeah and then three he was yeah pushing
01:11:02people away guy and then three it was like you're kind of just a little goofy and you know like just
01:11:09and but here this was this was so different and i know honestly like kudos to david harbor for i've
01:11:14never seen him this thin before i know and i was like damn this dude really lost some weight man
01:11:18that's crazy you look a little bit like you've been in a gulag for a minute buddy yeah yeah like
01:11:24it wasn't like a six-pack abs or something like no there's this dude someone who's been like having
01:11:28to do a lot of physical labor in a prison for months and barely eating like shit food yeah yeah he got
01:11:34the right it's like whatever diet he did for it his body was like just right to match the character's
01:11:41experiences um which i i thought was awesome and him and joyce finally get to be together yeah they're
01:11:47not even going to go back and have that date they've been wanting i'm really hungry guys i'm
01:11:50gonna have a piece of nuts i know well and speaking of dad i mean the one thing that we didn't get any
01:11:54wrap-up on was uh the fate of enzo our buddy and uh and uh and you know uh uh i can't remember his
01:12:03real name but the prison guard buddy who uh jock and hagar from game of thrones uh you know the guy
01:12:08who's helping him break out who ultimately inspires uh what is the pilot's name you know who ultimately gets
01:12:14him to actually fix yeah yuri yuri is my love uh they finally gets him to fix the jet the helicopter
01:12:22thing and and all that like i felt like as much as it's not the point and they are not the most
01:12:27important characters i was like i don't know where they wound up or at least enzo wound up because uh
01:12:32because he was the character who i liked a lot and i'm glad he didn't die and and stuff but i i guess
01:12:37i expected there to be some kind of involvement for him moving forward or a send-off if not because
01:12:44i mean he did while the plan went wrong a million different ways he did kind of help hopper out on
01:12:50this thing a lot i mean by filling in the blank by seeing who hopper unites with who drive who drops
01:12:57them off something just must have been worked out yeah i want to see it they'll probably explain in the
01:13:01next season they do like that yeah he'll be back surprise yeah we need this i know a guy i know a guy who's
01:13:11got peanut butter and enzo and you're running a peanut butter shop that's right and fixing uh
01:13:19airplanes or something like that um but but yeah although all the like fighting like that that was
01:13:24really intense and although like the flamethrowers so like they're i thought they were good at doing
01:13:28homage to like clearly this is referencing movies and horror fiction of various kinds but with
01:13:34i mean the michael myers mask and some of the freddie illusions are pretty dead on but you know this
01:13:39felt the least like remember this movie yeah exactly it's like it's they are like you see snow
01:13:46and a flamethrower you think of the thing but it's not going hey we did a thing reference you know
01:13:52as or or you know reciting direct lines or things like that yeah it's like you can pick up on what
01:13:59they're referencing but usually it's like it's it became more and more obvious as it went before
01:14:05mm-hmm they would be like that assassin hunting you was arnold schwarzenegger yeah you look like
01:14:11magnum pi yeah whereas here they took the reference and actually just let it be something for this
01:14:18story instead of a reference you know it's like you can draw the reference but it's actually just
01:14:22serving a purpose here yeah pennywise and freddie krueger obviously yeah but you know they're not like
01:14:30like it's like pennywise and freddie krueger yeah yeah for sure and it really just still feels like
01:14:37its own thing and i think what i really thought from up for doing something on this epic of a scale
01:14:43what i think they did so it's just so beautifully like a big saving grace for me for the rush to
01:14:49start like because yeah like you know murray's like funny and joysman is not much of a character
01:14:54i did like how she got a chance to sort of redeem her her loss of bob by saving hopper in that moment
01:15:00i thought that was great i actually didn't expect her to show up and do something yeah and that and
01:15:04that scene and so when she did i thought that was awesome um and she gets to be with hopper so yeah
01:15:10it was like a little bit there's progression for her character absolutely uh things finally being
01:15:15fulfilled and she was so haunted by the loss of bob in season three so i think that's great but what
01:15:23what i think even on what was so cool about the russia part to me was the set production yeah that was
01:15:31and i think the set production overall in this show was it was so excellent in this season like for going
01:15:36for the epic scale really getting to live in more times that are like when it's cgi it looks awesome
01:15:44even when it's cgi when you know when when vecna origins when he's looking upon that yellow land
01:15:52of the upside down yeah the desolate upside down land that was gorgeous but what i think i gotta
01:15:57turn this red but what i thought was cool is a lot of the sets felt like sets you know felt like
01:16:06uh people and cost you could feel the costumes you could feel um how they pay how they actually
01:16:13constructed these rooms you know whether that be in the creole house and versus the creole house in
01:16:19the upside down um the all of the russian prison i thought was so awesome and i don't i don't recall
01:16:27ever really thinking that in previous seasons and normally when you hear you know like yeah it's
01:16:33epic and the most expensive it usually means like bigger action scenes and and more cgi yeah which they do
01:16:39however i didn't expect to be like damn these sets are cool like these are really good looking sets that
01:16:50emit a tone and i love that absolutely loved it like every set especially in the in the two episodes of
01:16:58volume two was really great to look at yeah well that's that that keeps me coming back to this feeling
01:17:04of like you know there's there's the hype and excitement but i feel like beyond that you can
01:17:09you can have rose colored glasses for any number of reasons but this does truly feel like a special
01:17:15season a special show a special culmination to me here now because of not only all the things we've
01:17:21talked about with the writing with the character stuff and with the acting but yeah like the the sets
01:17:25are beautiful like everything feels like you can tell where this investment went no expense was spared and
01:17:32they seem like they were allowed to do what they wanted what they thought was right for the story
01:17:37and it seems like they were capable hands making those decisions and so even though there are things
01:17:43you can gripe about here me sitting here i'm just like wow this was like so gripping and cathartic
01:17:49even if there are flaws that you can point out about this plot line or that like this really does feel
01:17:55like the like a not the peak of all cinema but you know like this really does feel like a high watermark
01:18:03in terms of you know storytelling in this format here and now with these resources like it's it's really
01:18:10beautifully rendered and it's really convincing and it's yeah i mean it's things like that it's like
01:18:15that is movie magic to me when it's like you can point at everything the shots the lighting the effects
01:18:22the way the practical and the cg effects interplay the way those choices are made you know like so
01:18:28much of that all of that it kind of calls comes together to make this feel like something special
01:18:34more than just a really great season of tv you know i didn't think that jason should amount to
01:18:41too much though even though i agree with every single thing you said i was like what is the one thing
01:18:47though that i was like you could have done something different or you you possibly could
01:18:52have eliminated it it served as a way for lucas to have an arc and served as a great plot and
01:18:57convenience great tension in the moment to get maxed to a certain physical point where he could not put
01:19:03the headphones on her and shit um you know what i think they should have done what and i don't want
01:19:08to be that guy i think if they just added one beat of him looking up i see that's the thing i don't
01:19:15know i guess i guess i don't know how you get him to that point of realizing what the true nature is
01:19:19because he's just another one of the people who believes like the tv report at the end was like
01:19:24eddie munson and the munson murders and somehow those caused this and i don't know how you undo that
01:19:31but part of me thinks like man if you just had him like look up and maybe say something to lucas in
01:19:36that final moment that suggests a revelation or an oh i guess i was a bit pig-headed about this and i
01:19:44should have listened to you or something and then he gets part of me is like he gets disintegrated
01:19:50and there is no redemption and i like that partly because yeah i mean you know he made his bed but at
01:19:56the same time yeah there's not really an arc or a true payoff beyond like well i guess you should
01:20:03have listened it's kind of like some and sometimes it felt that way with billy in season two of stranger
01:20:08things yeah i'm just like there's a real thing happening here and this bully keeps showing up to be
01:20:13a bully and to yeah kind of ignore the greater like yeah it's like i like that they i think they
01:20:19got kind of halfway because i like definitely it's a halfway point there's there's a lot about it i
01:20:23liked and there's a lot but by the ending payoff with it is that the one thing i'm like yeah it was
01:20:28kind of whatever yeah it's like if you if you if you reduce every story to you know not that everything
01:20:34but yeah if you say three beats to uh an act structure you know it's like we got one to two we
01:20:40got to the point of him accepting like no no no this is satan this is some kind of supernatural
01:20:44satan thing yeah like one more step in some some direction or another i think would have made that
01:20:50feel like a full circle thing whereas yeah it's just sort of like ah tough for you well it was like
01:20:57it went about as far as an 80s movie would go and i don't feel like that's this movie surpasses 80s
01:21:05movies yeah and and and and every like it doesn't just go be an 80s movie like they to me this was
01:21:12yeah it's about the extent of where this archetype character in this position would go and i don't
01:21:19know even like the storyline of people believing that the hellfire club was you know this demonic
01:21:25thing responsible for the murders that didn't really it really felt like it just didn't amount
01:21:31too much ultimately by like you had such a great setup with it where it was asking you're like
01:21:35okay how it's all gonna how's it all gonna culminate it has like halloween kills but i'm like it doesn't
01:21:41really feel like it culminated with it i think that's what it maybe could have used is that yeah
01:21:46you have the two of it almost feels like their story gets consistently smaller even with that news
01:21:51report at the end because they are the faces of no this satanic panic thing with dungeons and dragons
01:21:56the hellfire club is real we have to go find them and we have to you know dispense justice but by the
01:22:01end it's just him and his buddy whereas i feel like if you actually had the town or or just more
01:22:07people this this thing being sort of a plague in and of itself of paranoia and people acting it's like
01:22:13they hinted that where everybody in town is at the you know army surplus store but uh yeah it almost
01:22:20feels like that story narrowed out over time instead of getting wider and i think there's plenty of not
01:22:25that it needs to be halloween kills but i feel like what that movie tried to do this could have
01:22:29surpassed yeah uh with something like that uh but then again i feel like that would open you up to
01:22:35more episodes or more time or or it would take away from what some other thing that we were doing that
01:22:41ultimately is i think most everything that we got and focused on is probably more important
01:22:46ultimately than that but as it kept going it just kept feeling like you're getting in the way
01:22:50because because it doesn't really develop beyond i'm still determined to find you yeah like you're
01:22:57getting in the way and then the main thrust it serves is like for lucas to have a realization about
01:23:02himself and for him to smash max's headphones yeah it feels more like a plot mechanic by the end than
01:23:09an actual character story like most things feel like yeah so um yeah that was kind of just the the
01:23:16one part because i i i always like checking in with it yeah but then by the end of it was like huh
01:23:23that's about it okay yeah um but as it stands uh this was pretty amazing and epic and uh beautiful and
01:23:31wonderfully constructed and i hope that the filmmakers and cast are insanely proud of making television
01:23:38history because this was awesome this is a this is event tv event and tv and streaming you know that
01:23:45it's fine which is so much harder to do yeah buddy um you know like when you when you release multiple
01:23:53episodes at once i'm saying versus like especially for stranger things like this was such a unique
01:23:58type of experience and uh it's stranger things has only become more special now to me after this season
01:24:06or normally by season four sometimes it starts to not feel a little special and this is become more
01:24:13special and i love the way it ended because it's so different it warrants this crazy level of
01:24:18production and length of storytelling and it um it elevated the show and in every way and it made it
01:24:26something that i'm like i can't wait for season five i just can't wait i know isn't that because
01:24:30it is now it feels like that will be the final story yeah it feels like they've really paved the way
01:24:35we've said they've set up everything in place now and now it's time for the final showdown yeah it's that harry potter
01:24:41thing i never would have thought about it and i can't remember who referenced it but someone was
01:24:45like there's a little bit of harry potter in the formula for stranger things and i'm like oh my god
01:24:49you're right and and that's i think part of that magic is because not only is it the developing story
01:24:54but every every year it's a new year it's a new school year it's a new age you know in the coming of
01:25:02age journey like it gets bigger yeah it's like baked into the show beyond everything else in the story
01:25:09is just that growth and that embrace even though it is somewhat problematic now that the kids are
01:25:14older by a good amount than who they're supposed to be playing uh still it gives it that extra
01:25:21element of real life attachment i think that that is really beautiful to see when it works and and and
01:25:27speaks to the time capsule that cinema can be as well as you know the the vehicle for all sorts of
01:25:34imaginative you know fancy true that's not true beautiful beautiful all right guys well journey's
01:25:44over for now for another several years until part five comes up bye peace thanks for being here check us on
