00:00Newsom wins over Trump VP with surprise demographic.
00:04California Governor Gavin Newsom holds a narrow lead over Vice President J.D. Vance
00:09among young male voters in a hypothetical 2028 presidential matchup,
00:14according to a new survey conducted by Republican-affiliated pollster
00:18League of American Workers slash TIPP.
00:21Newsom's outreach to younger men, a group Democrats have recently struggled with,
00:25appears to be working.
00:27Despite criticism from within his party for going on conservative podcasts,
00:31new data shows his strategy is resonating.
00:34He has urged Democrats to get out of our own bubble and has leaned into a sharper,
00:39more irreverent online persona, frequently mocking Donald Trump and other Republicans
00:43with caps lock memes and parodies, as noted by MedEyite.
00:48Young men moved notably to the right in the Trump era.
00:51In 2020, Trump won 45% of men aged 18 to 44.
00:55By 2024, he carried 53% of that demographic.
01:00But the new poll suggests a potential shift back toward Democrats,
01:03at least when Newsom is the face of the ticket.
01:06A new survey of 18 to 25-year-old registered voters shows Gavin Newsom leading J.D. Vance
01:11among young men 38% to 33%.
01:14The poll, conducted online with 2,100 participants, including 1,300 young men,
01:20had a plus or minus 2.8% margin of error for male respondents and was weighted for key demographics.
01:27Vance dominated among young men who backed Trump in 2024, winning 67%,
01:33but Newsom still drew 14% of that group, a notable break from a typically loyal voting bloc.
01:39The survey also tested job approval views.
01:42Trump posted 38% approval and 52% disapproval among young men,
01:47while Vance registered 34% approval and 45% disapproval.
01:52Newsom, by contrast, was slightly net positive at 36% approval and 32% disapproval, with 32% unsure.
02:00Both the California governor and the VP outperformed their parties,
02:05though both the Republican and Democratic brands carried negative approval ratings with young men.
