00:00Positive, productive, and promising.
00:03Secretary of State Marco Rubio says the latest U.S.-led talks to end Russia's war in Ukraine just had their best day yet.
00:10Plus, she vanished after cutting off her monitor.
00:13But this morning, the Slenderman attacker is captured.
00:17And from Trump ally to Trump adversary, Marjorie Taylor Greene answers the question, is she running for president?
00:26The stories that matter, clear and credible.
00:30From across the country to around the world, these are your unbiased updates from Straight Arrow News.
00:38I can tell you, I guess, that I feel very optimistic that we can get something done here because we made a tremendous amount of progress today.
00:45Secretary of State Marco Rubio coming out of peace talks with Ukrainian and European officials sounding hopeful,
00:52saying an end to the Russia-Ukraine war may finally be in sight.
00:56Good morning, I'm Craig DeGrelli.
00:58New this morning, U.S. and Ukrainian officials are now discussing whether President Volodymyr Zelensky
01:03could come to the United States this week to try to hammer out the final pieces of a peace deal with Russia.
01:10CBS reports it's part of President Trump's push to get an agreement by Thanksgiving.
01:15This follows a full day of talks in Geneva, Switzerland,
01:17even as President Trump accused Ukraine of showing zero gratitude for American support.
01:23But Rubio described Sunday's session as productive, while offering few details about what, if anything,
01:29would change in Trump's peace plan, or whether Russia would accept those changes.
01:34I'm telling you, today was the most productive day we have had.
01:36She said they were ungrateful earlier.
01:37Well, today, and we've talked to him since, I think he's quite pleased at the reports we've given him about the amount of progress that's been made.
01:44Well, obviously, the Russians get a vote here, right?
01:46So, I mean, look, we began from the early stage of this process with our understanding of the Russian position,
01:53as had been communicated to us in numerous ways.
01:56No matter what we came up with today, obviously, we now have to take what we come up with
02:00if we can reach that agreement with the Ukrainian side to the Russian side.
02:03That's another part of this equation.
02:04As it stands now, the Trump plan would require Ukraine to give up territory,
02:09drop any bid to join NATO, and accept a cap on the size of its military.
02:13Kyiv has repeatedly said it will not give up any land.
02:18Zelensky said before the talks that Ukraine would review every single point of the plan.
02:23And late Sunday, the White House said the Ukrainian delegation affirmed that all their principal concerns,
02:29security guarantees, long-term economic development, infrastructure protection,
02:34freedom of navigation, and political sovereignty, were thoroughly addressed during the meeting.
02:39A high-profile case out of Wisconsin is over this morning.
02:43Police say Morgan Geiser, one of the two girls who stabbed a classmate in 2015
02:47to please the fictional character Slenderman, is back in custody.
02:52Geiser cut off her state-issued monitoring bracelet Saturday night
02:56and walked away from a Madison group home months after a judge granted her
03:00a conditional release from a mental health facility.
03:03She was last seen with an adult companion and sparked a multi-state search this weekend.
03:08Police say they found her late Sunday at a truck stop outside Chicago
03:12and took her into custody without incident.
03:15Geiser was 12 years old when she and a friend lured Peyton Lutner into the woods
03:20and stabbed her 19 times, a crime that shocked the country.
03:24Lutner survived.
03:25Geiser pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree homicide
03:28and spent seven years in a secure psychiatric facility before her release.
03:33Police are looking into how she escaped and who might have helped her.
03:36A new war of words this morning between Marjorie Taylor Greene, Time Magazine,
03:41even some of her own colleagues, all just days after she announced she's leaving Congress.
03:47Time reported over the weekend that Greene has privately told allies
03:51she's considering a run for president in 2028.
03:54In a lengthy post on X, Greene fired back, calling the story a complete lie
03:59and insisting she's never planned a White House run, writing,
04:03I'm not the kind of person who is willing to make the deals that must be made
04:07in order to be allowed to have the title.
04:09I'm not motivated by power and titles.
04:12Greene announced on Friday she will resign in January
04:15after a very public break with President Trump.
04:18Asked about that split over the weekend, here's how the president put it.
04:21I said, go your own way, and once I left her, she resigned
04:25because she would never have survived a primary.
04:28But I think she's a nice person.
04:31One of Greene's most vocal critics, Texas Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett,
04:35had this response to Greene stepping down.
04:38You're on the other side of the president for one week,
04:40and you can't take the heat.
04:42Imagine what it is to sit in my shoes,
04:45to not only be on the opposite side of him,
04:47but to have people like her who are constantly fanning the flames of hate
04:52and imagine what those threats look like
04:55when you literally are someone like me.
04:58All of this comes as Greene continues to claim
05:01she faced threats after Trump called her a traitor
05:03for supporting the release of the Epstein files,
05:06and as speculation grows over what she does next, if anything, in politics.
05:11Mayor-elect Zoran Mamdani is back in New York
05:14and doubling down on what he said about President Trump,
05:17even after their surprisingly friendly meeting in the Oval Office.
05:21Friday's meeting made headlines,
05:22the two men smiling, laughing, shaking hands,
05:25a far cry from months of insults,
05:28with Trump calling Mamdani a communist,
05:30and Mamdani pledging to Trump-proof New York City.
05:34On Sunday, outside a church in the Bronx,
05:36Mamdani called the meeting productive,
05:38saying both sides focused on the affordability crisis
05:41and what it would take to deliver for New Yorkers.
05:43But on NBC, he defended his previous criticism of the president.
05:48Everything that I've said in the past, I continue to believe,
05:51and that's the thing that I think is important in our politics,
05:54is that we don't shy away from where we have disagreements,
05:56but we understand what it is that brings us to that table.
05:59Because I'm not coming into the Oval Office
06:01to make a point or make a stand.
06:02I'm coming in there to deliver for New Yorkers,
06:04and a few weeks ago, I was asked by a reporter
06:07three words to describe myself.
06:08I said, New York City.
06:10And that's what animated that conversation.
06:11How do we deliver for the people of New York City?
06:13Mamdani says he still believes Trump is a fascist,
06:17but says that didn't stop them from finding common ground
06:20on cost of living, transit, child care, and public safety issues.
06:24He also says he made it clear to the president
06:26New York does not need federal troops,
06:29and that the NYPD can handle public safety.
06:31We could get answers as soon as today about the fate of Obamacare subsidies,
06:37a central fight that dragged out the 43-day government shutdown.
06:41The White House is ready to show its plan.
06:43Multiple outlets, including Politico and CNN,
06:46report President Trump is preparing to roll out a two-year plan
06:50to extend the enhanced ACA subsidies set to expire December 31st.
06:54The announcement could come at any time.
06:57Without action, premiums could double next year,
07:00and millions would lose coverage, according to KFF and the Congressional Budget Office.
07:05The White House framework, still not final,
07:07would add new income caps to qualify for subsidies
07:10and require every enrollee to pay at least something in monthly premiums.
07:15That move targets what Republicans say has been a wave of fraud tied to zero premium plans.
07:21The plan would also push Congress to fund cost-sharing reductions,
07:25lowering out-of-pocket costs,
07:26and give enrollees the option to divert part of their credit
07:30into a health savings account if they choose a lower-tier plan.
07:34This comes as Republicans remain split.
07:36Hardliners want the subsidies to expire.
07:38Moderates want them extended.
07:40And Democrats are already preparing to make any premium spike a major midterm issue.
07:45Finally this morning, a big shift in car safety.
07:49The Department of Transportation is rolling out a new female crash test dummy
07:52designed to better protect women who face a much higher risk of injury in a crash than men.
07:59This model, called Thor 5F, is the first dummy designed with true female proportions.
08:05For decades, U.S. car testing has relied on a dummy
08:08based almost entirely on the male body measurements,
08:12even in tests meant to represent women.
08:14Transportation officials say this new version is far more human-like,
08:19packed with sensors that show how seatbelts, airbags,
08:21and car structures actually perform on female bodies.
08:26That data will help drive safer designs and future regulations.
08:30The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says
08:32women are 73% more likely to be injured in a head-on crash than men and 17% more likely to die.
08:40Dummy makers already have the designs and can start building models for automakers right now.
08:46Sounds like a really good idea.
08:48All right, before we head out, here's what we're tracking today.
08:50A major press freedom fight hits a federal courtroom.
08:54A U.S. appeals panel in Washington will hear the Associated Press's case
08:58against President Trump after the newswire was blocked from events
09:01for refusing to use his preferred name for the Gulf of Mexico.
09:05In New York, Hall of Famer Chauncey Billups faces arraignment
09:09in a widening FBI gambling and game-rigging probe involving the NBA.
09:13And at noon, First Lady Melania Trump welcomes the official 2025 White House Christmas tree.
