'The Fall Guy' director David Leitch and producer Kelly McCormick talk about conversations with Ryan Gosling doing his own stunts in the movie. Plus, Kelly McCormick dishes on choosing Taylor Swift's "All Too Well" for the car scene.
00:06What were kind of the conversations about him doing his own stunt on that?
00:10Well, I mean, you know, he does kind of get into character and it's called the fall guy.
00:14So I think in his heart of hearts, he knew he was going to have to fall at some point.
00:17He does a lot of falling in the movie.
00:19He falls in love.
00:20Yes.
00:21You know, he takes the fall.
00:22He takes the fall.
00:23Do you know what I mean?
00:24And then, yes, he actually finally went for falling the 12 stories as well, which I think was really like a big sort of gauntlet for him and his experience of the Colt Seavers, you know.
00:38And I got to tell you, the day that he did it, I may have been bawling my eyes out because I was watching from below and he was way up high.
00:45And I was like, you know, I trust the system.
00:49I trust the team.
00:50And there was something so emotional and beautiful about him trusting them, too, and going out there and going for it, as scared as he is of heights.
00:57And it was just really, really cool.
00:59Totally.
01:00Yeah.
01:01What was that like for you watching?
01:03It was really thrilling.
01:04And like it was sort of like the moment we knew, you know, he was really embracing the character full on.
01:09And look, he was a great partner all the way through the movie.
01:13And that's just sort of one physical demonstration of it.
01:16Like he was ready to do any of the stunts that we'd asked him to do.
01:20And how did you choose all too well for the car scene?
01:23Was that the number one choice?
01:24That was Kelly's choice.
01:25That's great producing.
01:26I felt like the, I really felt like their romance is very modern.
01:31And it's actually hard to put Taylor on a movie because she's such a storyteller and she's so evocative in like all of her imagery and everything.
01:40And this was just a moment where it was kind of quiet.
01:42They were going, you know, I think Ryan was going through the motions of that song.
01:46It's a heartbreak anthem of, for all ages.
01:50And, and it just felt really right for their sort of modern love song.
01:54Plus I think it's funny.
01:55And at the end when it's ripped out and she is a really, she's also like really funny in her songs too, you know?
02:02So it ended up being like, once I got him to try it, it was like, there's nothing else for it.
