Newcastle United Head Coach Eddie Howe said that his side looked to approach their game with Manchester City with new energy, which ultimately helped them defeat Pep Guardiola’s team thanks to a brace from winger Harvey Barnes, whilst Sunderland Head Coach Régis Le Bris made clear that the Black Cats lacked intensity as they lost away against Fulham.

00:01Newcastle United were able to rediscover their energy
00:04as they defeated Manchester City by two goals to one at St James' Park
00:08with head coach Eddie Howe praising the efforts of Harvey Barnes
00:12who scored a brace in the win.
00:15Yeah, it was. I think we had a long, long wait
00:18in between the Brentford game and this game
00:20and in some respects that was probably a good thing
00:22because it allowed us time to reflect but then time to work
00:25and the players that stayed will vouch for that.
00:28We tried to re-find our energy and our athleticism through training
00:34and of course there was a group with us, there wasn't the whole squad.
00:39We tried to then instil that into the guys that came back from international duty
00:42that this is what we've worked on and this is what we need to deliver
00:44and the players didn't let us down.
00:46They were magnificent today.
00:47The heart and energy and athleticism was there
00:50and it needed to be because they're such a good opponent.
00:52One mistake and you're going to get punished.
00:54I thought it was a really high-level game against two.
00:56Pretty good team.
00:56I think Harvey never really gets affected by missing.
00:59I think that's a great asset to have as a goal scorer
01:01and certainly that is record for a wide player.
01:04He's incredible in front of goal
01:05and the first goal was probably the hardest of the lot.
01:08It was an unbelievable finish.
01:10The second one's about his instincts
01:11and being in the right place at the right time.
01:14And Sunderland lacked intensity.
01:17That's according to their head coach, Regis Labrice,
01:19as the Black Cats were beaten 1-0 by Fulham.
01:22We faced a good opponent, as expected.
01:27They were, for example, really good against Arsenal a few weeks ago.
01:32And they started well with many offensive threats.
01:36And I think tactically we were ready.
01:38But we missed a bit of intensity in duels,
01:44in second ball situations as well.
01:46So it wasn't easy today to escape the pressure
01:51to create and generate a new momentum.
01:53As you mentioned there, it was always going to be a tough game.
01:56And this is the nature of the Premier League.
01:58You're always going to face a tough opponent every week.
02:00And it's about just learning from those games
02:03if it ends in defeat.
02:05Yeah, absolutely.
02:06I think so.
02:08I focus a big part of the preparation about our basics.
