00:00One thing I can tell you is you've got to be free.
00:06My turn.
00:07This episode of The Hollywood Reporter News is brought to you by American Airlines,
00:10Hollywood's favorite airline.
00:12Ben Affleck is headed here to Comic-Con 2017 in San Diego this weekend to promote Warner Brothers'
00:16upcoming Justice League movie. But just how many more times will he put on the Batsuit?
00:20A source for The Hollywood Reporter says probably not many, if ever again.
00:24According to the source, Warner Brothers is working on plans to gracefully usher out
00:28Affleck's Batman. The Hollywood Reporter's Kim Masters broke down what this could mean for
00:32the cape and cowl. Warner Brothers film studio chief Toby Emmerich told The Hollywood Reporter,
00:37Ben is our Batman. We love him as Batman. We want to keep him in the cowl as long as we can.
00:42Matt Reeves, who will direct the studio still undated and unwritten The Batman Movie, also has said
00:47that he means to keep Affleck in the role. But a source with knowledge of the situation says that
00:51the studio is working on plans to usher out Affleck's Batman and address the change in some shape or form
00:56in one of the upcoming DC films. Exactly when and how that might happen is yet to be determined,
01:01but according to Masters analysis, it would be safe to bet against Affleck starring in The Batman.
01:06He has already stepped away from directing the film, and Reeves is dropping the script that Affleck wrote
01:10with DC Entertainment's Jeff Johns. Of course, Batman transitions have happened before.
01:15Starting in 1989, Warner Brothers has made films with Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer, George Clooney, Christian Bale, and Affleck.
01:22As the source with ties to the situation observes, there is precedent in the Batman comics for Bruce Wayne handing off the mantle to others,
01:29and even for two different Batman cleaning up the streets of Gotham simultaneously.
01:32Now, we'll just have to wait and see if Affleck addresses his future as Batman during the Warner Brothers Comic Con panel on Saturday.
01:38But, oh my gosh, I think the new Batman is here. Are you interested in taking on the role? Sure.
01:44For Kim Masters' full analysis on what this news could mean for Batman, check out THR.com.
01:49And be sure to stay tuned to THR News all weekend as we'll be here on location at Comic Con in San Diego.
01:54And actually, I heard the line for that Warner Brothers panel is already starting, so I gotta get going.
01:57I'm Tiffany Taylor for The Hollywood Reporter News.
