A Group of 20 leaders’ summit in South Africa adopted a declaration addressing the climate crisis and other global challenges on Saturday (Nov 22) after it was drafted without US input.

The declaration, using language to which Washington has been opposed, "can't be renegotiated," according to the South African agreement.

00:00The G20 Leaders' Summit began on Saturday in the South African city of Johannesburg,
00:08with the participating nations seeking to press on climate change resolutions
00:12and development priorities of the global South and African continent.
00:17The delegates agreed on a leaders' declaration at the summit,
00:20which was drawn up without seeking the consensus of the United States,
00:24which had boycotted the summit.
00:26South African President Cyril Ramaphosa said they should preserve the integrity and stature of the G20 economies.
00:34There has been overwhelming consensus and agreement that one of the other tasks
00:43we should undertake right at the beginning is to execute the task that we have come here for principally,
00:52which is by overwhelming consensus, to adopt our declaration.
00:58This G20 Leaders' Summit has a responsibility not to allow the integrity and the credibility of the G20 to be weakened.
01:09In fact, from this summit, we should have a sense that the G20 has been strengthened.
01:19In the declaration, the delegates also agreed that increasing large-scale disasters affected people in vulnerable situations,
01:27and a high level of debt is one of the obstacles to inclusive growth in many developing economies,
01:34and the implementation of a framework for debt treatment should be strengthened.
01:38They also agreed to work on a just, comprehensive, and lasting peace in Sudan,
01:43Democratic Republic of the Congo, Palestine, and Ukraine.
01:51The U.S. boycotted the event, citing allegations about South Africa's treatment of its white minority,
01:58and rejection of the host's diversity, equity, and inclusion agenda.
02:03The U.S. is the host of the G20 Summit next year.
02:08Security at the summit was heightened due to the presence of many world leaders.
