South African President Cyril Ramaphosa slammed U.S. President Donald Trump after he threatened to exclude South Africa from the 2026 G20 summit, calling the allegations of “white genocide” and land confiscation against Afrikaners baseless and false. Speaking from Pretoria, Ramaphosa stressed, “South Africa is a member of the G20 in its own name and right” and vowed that the country will continue to participate as a full, active, and constructive member of the forum. He also accused disinformation campaigns of fueling tensions between Washington and Pretoria, while reaffirming South Africa’s commitment to dialogue and friendship with the American people.

00:00It is regrettable that the United States of America, which is a founding member of the G20
00:06and which takes over the presidency of the G20 from South Africa in 2026,
00:13chose not to participate in the G20 Leaders Summit and the final meetings leading up to that summit.
00:21It is even more unfortunate that the reasons the United States gave for its non-participation
00:30were based on baseless and false allegations that South Africa is perpetrating genocide against Afrikaners
00:39and the confiscation of land from white people.
00:44This is blatant misinformation about our country.
00:48We were most pleased that many organizations, businesses and individuals from the United States
00:56participated in large numbers in G20-related activities such as the Business 20 Summit and the G20 Social Summit.
01:09South Africa valued their constructive and enthusiastic participation.
01:14Earlier this week, we formally handed over the G20 presidency for 2026 to the United States,
01:24observing the appropriate diplomatic protocols.
01:29A few days ago, President Donald Trump made a statement to the effect that South Africa
01:35would not be invited to participate in the G20 in the United States.
01:39He repeated untrue statements about genocide against Afrikaners and the confiscation of land
01:48from white people in our country.
01:51We must make it clear that South Africa is one of the founding members of the G20,
01:58and South Africa is therefore a member of the G20 in its own name and right.
02:04We will continue to participate as a full, active, and constructive member of the G20.
02:13Despite the challenges and misunderstandings that have arisen between South Africa and the United States,
02:25South Africa remains a firm and unwavering friend of the American people.
02:31We recall the great solidarity movement in the United States that stood by our side in our struggle for democracy and freedom.
02:42We recall how the Bill of Rights in the United States Constitution inspired us as we wrote our own Constitution.
02:53We offer the people of the United States nothing but goodwill and friendship.
02:58We affirm our commitment to continue to engage in dialogue with the United States government
03:06and to do so with respect and with dignity as equal sovereign countries.
03:14We value the United States government and its people as a partner.
03:18We have common interests, common values, and a shared wish to advance the prosperity and well-being of the people of both of our countries.
03:32As a country, we are aware that the stance taken by the United States administration
03:39has been influenced by a sustained campaign of disinformation by groups and individuals within our country,
03:48in the United States, and elsewhere.
03:52These people who are spreading disinformation are endangering and undermining South Africa's national interests,
04:00destroying South African jobs, and weakening our country's relations with one of our most important partners.
04:10We must remind these people that South Africa is a constitutional democracy
04:15with a Bill of Rights that guarantees equality under the law.
04:19We have an independent judiciary, able to uphold our constitution and defend the rights of all South Africans.
04:28We are a country that has a tradition of dialogue,
04:33that has an enduring ability to come together to confront the challenges that we face.
04:42South African problems must be solved by South Africans themselves.
