00:00I'm just looking at resumes because we're going to do 10,000 ounces this year and we have a lot
00:24to do so you need good people that you can count on the truth is somebody can
00:31write a really good resume and be terrible 30 year old Parker Schnabel is
00:36leaning on his crew like never before after years of running the cuts himself
00:42he's testing his top lieutenant's ability to lead Mitch and Brennan are getting
00:48sulfur ready to go we'll have the wash plant firing up there very soon we have
00:52two wash plants already running here on Dominion Bob and slucifer
01:00two weeks into the season and with only 400 ounces Parker wants his 40 person
01:07crew firing on old cylinders to bring in a big haul this week and put him on track
01:14for his 10,000 ounce season goal we do have a big crew this year you know a bunch
01:20of new people Tyson has a lot of training to do people need to understand what
01:25the expectations are and when they're doing things wrong and if they can't
01:28correct it then we just we need to get rid of it which is always a challenge
01:37Parker's given me more and more responsibility this year from last year
01:42it's probably about three times as much we have so many new people and with
01:48Parker still expecting more than double productivity as last year that's a large
01:55ask from a lot of new people Parker's charged rising star Tyson Lee with
02:02overseeing the huge Dominion Creek operation where two cuts are already
02:07producing gold the bridge cut and the recently opened Golden Mile which Parker
02:13believes could deliver big numbers if the crew keeps it running hopefully the new
02:22people have a better understanding of what we expect and what we need out of them
02:26here is a mining outfit and we're figuring out their caliber
02:30right now we have Michael digging pay down by Bob and the bridge cut the cuts
02:38looking hella nice clearly Parker's not around he's going for a big season this
02:43year the size of his operation that's massive new recruit Mike Thompson is a
02:48veteran gold miner with years of experience operating heavy machinery I did five years at a
02:55neighbor mine Parker offered me this job very hard to say no to Tyson's also
03:02relying on another new hire to keep the bridge cut gold coming in I have Amy
03:07learning how to run loader right now she's feeding Bob and I want to throw a
03:12bunch of stuff at her with the wash plan I have zero zero mining experience
03:25so for the last three days I have been doing some training and today is my first day on my own
03:38going from being a teacher just half a month ago it's gonna be a big transition
03:46greenhorn Amy Lee traded a career as a science teacher to become a gold miner
03:56Taylor and Tatiana are my besties Tatiana actually trained me in a rock truck which
04:04was amazing we had such a good time and then on day two they just let me loose on my own and that was
04:10that after proving herself Tyson is putting Amy in charge of one of the most important jobs feeding
04:19paydirt into the wash plan how's it going Amy good you pretty good good how you finding things now
04:30that I've gotten over a little bit of the fear after a couple hours it's getting better that's good
04:35yeah I'd like to do a once over the plant with you and just kind of give you some things to look
04:40at so there's this tail drum up here so you can see how it's nice and clean yeah that's how it should
04:46always be yeah if the belt walks left or right that can be an issue when you're feeding the wash
04:53plant a rock gets stuck on the belt and I've had it cut the belt clean in half like a razor blade before
05:00yeah if you think something is wrong yeah just shut it down okay let's run up here yeah open this rip on
05:08this that's the breaker then run up there open the bypass close the main any questions not at this
05:16moment just a sponge yeah let me just absorb yeah you absorbed it all still a little bit like holy
05:23yeah oh you'll get it all righty we'll make us some gold okay fun when you think of all the
05:33responsibility you have and you're the sole person of watching the plant it plays on your mind a little
05:40bit I'm really happy with Amy can't wait to see what she can do this season hey Tyson you on here Tyson
05:51yep go ahead yeah I got a pretty big up here can you come have a look come on my way last thing I
06:02want to do is tell Parker that the cuts flooded and we got to shut Bob down man that's a lot of
06:09melt water that's not what I needed man we have a lake in here we spend so much time getting the
06:17bridge cut drain it's getting flooded out again the water's backing up the pitch line of the cut
06:22I'm thinking that eight inch culvert's not big enough oh yeah we need to rattle your hoe over and dig
06:29up this road we got that big old culvert up there so let's throw that puppy in let's uh get this water
06:35around here so we got to get this water out because right now the only pay we can truck to Bob is in
06:45this square if it's flooding out Bob's gonna shut down as the 114 acre bridge cut thaws melt water
06:54seeps into its drainage ditches where it is then channeled through an eight inch culvert under Bob's
07:00only access road but the narrow culvert is overwhelmed by the volume of melt water causing the ditches to
07:09overflow and flood the cut to stop the flood Mike must dig up the access road and replace the small culvert with a
07:18much larger 36 inch culvert then rebuild the road to wash plant Bob
07:24I'm gonna take the small little eight inch culvert up and let the water go if I don't hurry up and get
07:33this water figured out Bob's gonna run out of pain that's bad news you ain't sluicing you ain't producing
07:38here comes some water boys
07:49we'll get this culvert let's the only thing I got kicking around here so hopefully I can do the job
08:06throw her in there send it there's one way to put a culvert in see if this bank falls out on it that could suck eh
08:25oh me this is sketchy man anybody bring some extra undies
08:40I can safely say that culvert's in place I'm pretty proud of this I feel pretty good
08:51Mike save the day that was fun that was exciting nice work Mike yeah she's porking right on see ya
09:04got that done Tyson's happy pretty proud of myself pretty happy it was like what an hour hour and five
09:11minutes we got her done well you know Michael sure stepped up to the plate and saved the date he got
09:17that culvert in got all the water leaving us he executed it perfectly we just got to keep the gold
09:25gold prices are up there so we decided to get with the program right out of the bed we were the first one
09:54sluicing in the Yukon the early board cut is done so now we're going to expand it 10 miles southwest
10:02king of the Klondike Tony beats has already mined out his first cut pulling in 632 ounces of his 6500 ounce target
10:15since we had a nice early start now the trick is going to be a stay ahead of the game so we can't let
10:28up after a hot start on his Indian River claim Tony's nearly out of pay dirt and he needs to open more
10:39ground at the early bird cut fast so what I want to do is strip here 100 feet wide all the way to the
10:50other end so they can take all this gravel load it up dump it in the old cut so we can get people on
10:56the go down here just like Parker Tony's also relying on a crew of new recruits to get the job done
11:06we're going to have another 40 more people this year so you got to make do with whatever you can
11:12get and then hope that another okay oh this is my first year here who wouldn't want to come to
11:19Yukon and work I love it here I love the chaos we've got a lot of equipment packed in in here weaving
11:28together rock truck drivers Tyler Swan and Sam Moore are part of an all-new crew tasked with getting
11:36the early bird extension down to pay in just one week I'm pretty new to gold mining I've only been
11:44at this for a little over a month now and there's very rarely a dull moment Tony's approach throw the
11:52newbies in at the deep end and hope they can swim make some room I mean you got two trucks if they
12:07can't find their own way see you know what I mean the pocket is all there truckers away the
12:22f*** over there you see where the pocket is young fella look at me f*** me how come you never
12:30answer your f*** radio I've got all my charges for it sir don't f*** okay get him a radio crazy
12:37this f*** crazy I want you underneath the bucket hey oh it was pretty sparse on training here
12:48and then off into the deep end it can be a little bit stressful back it up a bit back it up a bit
12:59pretty tight spot we're working in we've got a bit of a bend to turn around here
13:09now we're all in this together I got about eyes on everything
13:15Sam has just toppled one of Tony's essential $300,000 rock trucks
13:28Jacob I'm gonna need some help Jacob do you copy Jacob
13:32you
13:58Jay, do you copy Jacob?
14:08My truck sort of tipped over here.
14:12My box gave way under the bank.
14:15We're going to need some help.
14:18What the f*** is he doing?
14:22At Indian River, Tony's racing to extend his cut down to pay before Wash Plant Sluice-A-Lot's pay pile runs out.
14:37But rookie driver Sam has flipped his rock truck, bringing the operation to a halt.
14:48The game plans go up.
14:50Use the 480 if it'll pull it.
14:52And hook on to the high point of the box and pull it back over on the right side up.
14:57Alright, let's go flip this truck over.
15:04Rushing to the rescue is heavy equipment operator, Jacob Moore.
15:13Hopefully it comes over nicely.
15:17The car is still good.
15:21Whoa.
15:21Nice and easy.
15:32Drive ahead very slowly.
15:34All right, everything went smooth and properly done.
15:47We're back on the road now, so hopefully we didn't lose too much time.
15:50Yeah, I'm feeling a little bit stressed about what Tony will think.
15:57Copy, copy, copy.
15:59Do you solve a favor and do that one more time and then get out of here.
16:03You know, there's a couple down there.
16:04You do it once, you're in.
16:06You do it twice, you're out.
16:08So pay attention with you, please.
16:11Copy that.
16:11I'm definitely backed into corner at this point.
16:21I've got all this ground that I just finished paying off and no water license.
16:25To be able to mine it, and it's just like it's there taunting me.
16:40Really, this has left me with no other choices but to move on.
16:44100 miles east of Tony, Rick Ness hasn't mined a single ounce of gold.
16:51Forced to abandon a pile of pay and the richest ground he's ever mined at his Duncan Creek claim,
16:59Rick's committed his entire operation to gamble on new land.
17:05At the end of the day, I had to make a deal with Troy in Lightning Creek.
17:08You know, I have to do something before we lose out on that even.
17:11And there's people snooping around for ground with licenses on it everywhere,
17:14and I can't afford to wait any longer.
17:18Last week.
17:19I'm here to make a deal.
17:20Rick met with landowner Troy Taylor.
17:2315% royalty payment.
17:24We're going to do a 100-ounce payment, and we can get started on there right away.
17:28Made a handshake deal to lease Lightning Creek
17:31and moved his entire mining operation 8 miles northwest.
17:37Well, we're at Lightning Creek.
17:40We're going to go and hit this as hard as we can.
17:45This year, you know, gold price is once again record high,
17:48so we've got about 100 ounces a week to get by the end of the year
17:50if we're going to get to 1,800 ounces,
17:52so we've really got to get a move on.
17:56We've broken ground down at Lightning Creek.
17:58Plenty of challenges ahead of us.
17:59This is new ground.
18:00We've got to learn.
18:01Time to get on some gold.
18:02Rick's opened the diamond cut
18:07and is depending on his crew
18:09to locate the pockets of gold-rich pay dirt
18:12in this notoriously unpredictable area.
18:15The diamond cut's definitely going at a good speed,
18:34but at the start of any cut, it takes some time to get prepped up.
18:39This ain't bad, but it may seem frivolous
18:41that we're just moving dirt from point A to point B,
18:44but this is what we need to do.
18:46Efficiency is key.
18:47Not going to lie, this is a good day.
18:50I just want to make sure I'm keeping up with the pace
18:53because at the end of the season, I want a big gold bonus,
18:56so, you know, whatever it takes to get down to pay
18:58and start moving it is what I'll do.
19:08What the f***?
19:09Hey, Ricky, can you hear me?
19:14What's up, mate?
19:15I think we're down to pay.
19:24Guy, get over here.
19:30Look at that.
19:32You ever seen pay dirt?
19:34Pay dirt?
19:35That's what it is right there.
19:36Boulders and gravels.
19:38Pay dirt is gravelly and rocky, gold-bearing material
19:42that lies beneath the waste topsoil known as overburden.
19:48That's the s*** with the gold in it.
19:49F***ing right.
19:51Yeah.
19:51Let's look at it.
19:52That looks good.
19:53That whole floor down there, that's the pay dirt we're looking for.
19:55That came f***ing quick when we don't have to go down 150 feet, eh?
19:58Just eating this area right here is bigger than Peggy's found.
20:01I know, I know.
20:02That's exciting.
20:04And that should make for quick stripping.
20:06And then we've got below that, according to Troy,
20:09anywhere as 12 to 15 feet of pay.
20:11Yeah.
20:11So put the overburden where it wants to go
20:13and we'll have a good amount of pay dirt exposed here in no time.
20:16Let's get back on the gold.
20:17Let's f***ing do it.
20:18Let's do it.
20:18Let's go.
20:19We're already down to pay.
20:20You know, I'm not used to that.
20:21We're used to going 100-some feet through overburden just to get to it.
20:23And it's nice that it's so shallow here.
20:26Bailey's doing a great job.
20:27Trucks are moving dirt.
20:28Sun's out.
20:29F***ing good day.
20:31With the team on the pay layer,
20:34Rick tasks the crew with stripping the entire diamond cut.
20:39Compared to, like, Rick's claims,
20:41it's a huge difference because we're moving about 160 feet worth of overburden
20:45and over here it's, you know, five feet.
20:49It's my first time seeing pay.
20:51Once we get that through the sluice box and through the plant,
20:54it'll be good to see the actual gold.
20:56While the team works,
20:59Rick takes a moment to make his handshake deal with Troy official
21:02and sign the lease.
21:09Ridiculous.
21:11Kind of reading through it,
21:12and I just don't like some of the stuff I'm seeing.
21:16Yeah.
21:17Hey, Z, you got a copy?
21:18Yeah, go ahead, Z.
21:21Why don't you come over here, and I'll show you something.
21:25All right.
21:34What's up, buddy?
21:34You're going to make me read?
21:36No, I've got an updated agreement with Troy.
21:39He's given himself an awful lot of power, I think.
21:40Well, how it works is that he,
21:42I have to submit my mining plan to him,
21:45and then he decides how it works, right?
21:47It says that he shall have access to the equipment
21:49and or personnel at his discretion.
21:51Well, that means, to me, that means, yeah,
21:53on a Tuesday, he'd come and shut down the sluice box.
21:55I think it's a bit of an overreach.
21:58I just, don't you?
21:59I always assumed when you lease the ground
22:01that you get to do with what you want,
22:03like how your mining plan is.
22:05And this sounds like, this sounds like you sign a lease
22:07and then he has all the power.
22:09I don't know what the angle is there.
22:10I don't know if there is an angle.
22:12At this point, I'm just, I'm waiting
22:13to stumble around a corner and find him like this,
22:15like, whoa, I pulled a, you know what I mean?
22:17Like, stupid like that gets your wheels turning, right?
22:20Let's just read over the contract a little bit more.
22:24We're down here.
22:25We keep plugging away.
22:26Yeah, yeah, no, like I said, I appreciate it.
22:28Screw my head on straight.
22:29Make sure that this deal is in our favor
22:30and keep on trucking.
22:33Keeps everyone here.
22:34Thanks, buddy.
22:34All right, we'll talk to you.
22:35See you at dinner.
22:36Yeah, yeah, yeah.
22:39What the f*** is this?
22:46If I fail to make a payment,
22:48a minimum of $20,000 every month,
22:51it may terminate this agreement
22:52within three business days.
22:55Even when I'm not producing gold,
22:57now I'm on the hook for $20,000 a month.
22:59The more I look at this,
23:00the more I'm saying,
23:01there's not a f***ing chance in hell I'm signing this.
23:03I don't know why he's putting all this extra s*** in here.
23:05It's just not sitting right with me.
23:08I've worked with Troy for a while,
23:09and I trust the guy,
23:10but it's fishy that I just paid him off,
23:11and now we're going back,
23:13and suddenly he's got more ground for us,
23:16and we're not paying him again.
23:18You know, I'm kind of thinking
23:19he might be using my lack of options
23:21to turn things in his favor.
23:24Rick has already spent over $40,000
23:28in fuel and wages
23:30mining Lightning Creek.
23:33But it could be all for nothing.
23:36I'm trying to stay calm,
23:37but I'm getting pretty f***ing riled up about it
23:39because I'm already f***ing down there working.
23:41I've got money into this.
23:42I've got guys down there.
23:43I've got equipment down there.
23:46And I'm not f***ing stopping,
23:47but I'm not signing this,
23:48so he's going to have to change his way of thinking
23:50because that's f***ing.
23:54Right now we have two wash plants running.
24:09They have a little bit of time
24:10to do a lap of going into the bridge cut,
24:13checking on Bob,
24:14making sure everyone's doing all right.
24:17At Dominion,
24:19Tyson Lee is maxing out Sleucifer
24:21on the Golden Mile,
24:22and in the bridge cut,
24:25he has new operator Mike
24:26digging out pay dirt.
24:30I want to prove to this crew
24:32that I'm capable and I can do the job.
24:34Whatever they throw at me,
24:36I definitely have the taste of that gold fever.
24:39While greenhorn Amy,
24:41in charge of running wash plant Bob,
24:44feeds 250 yards of pay an hour.
24:46I am making sure that I am keeping
24:51a constant flow of pay dirt
24:54going up the conveyors
24:56and also making sure
24:58they're not getting clogged up
25:00or many other things that I'm sure...
25:04we're going to shut off the generator.
25:18Oh, this doesn't look good.
25:36What happened?
25:37It's all clogged up at the top.
25:39I just saw rocks shooting from the side.
25:42Must be a rock jammed in somewhere,
25:44like up against our chain drive
25:46that caused it to not want to spin.
25:48But first things first,
25:50get all the dirt off the belts.
25:52Tyson suspects wash plant Bob
25:55has rocks lodged in its hopper feeder's
25:57internal conveyor chains,
25:59stopping the mechanism
26:00from moving pay dirt
26:01toward the shaker deck,
26:03leading to it piling up.
26:06The solution?
26:07Dig out the hopper feeder,
26:09removing all rocks lodged
26:11in the chain conveyor.
26:12Then, clear any rocks
26:14from the super stacker's belt rollers
26:16and start the plant up again.
26:23Yeah, we just want to...
26:25Clear it out?
26:26Yeah.
26:26Because if we fired the super stacker up,
26:28they'd be flying around like popcorn.
26:30Okay.
26:31Go get sucked down into the tail drum
26:33and slice the belt.
26:34Okay.
26:35You did a great job, though, Amy.
26:37Thanks.
26:37What happened?
26:52This chain bind up on something?
26:54Like a rock got stuck in the chain drive.
26:57Okay.
26:57Did we anything up?
26:59I don't know.
27:00We're just trying to shovel it out
27:01and make sure that the belt's all good.
27:03You can see there's a lot of big rocks
27:06on the conveyor belt itself.
27:09Give me that shovel.
27:12Watch out.
27:13Okay.
27:24Look at the bottom of that belt.
27:26You know what's serious
27:27when Parker shows up
27:28and jumps into action?
27:30Tail drum's packed full of s***.
27:35Oh, let's just get the big ones out of there.
27:40Let's climb down
27:42once Parker's done doing Parker things.
27:46I think we're good to go.
27:47Nice work.
27:49I'm climbing down.
27:50You're still up there.
27:51Generator's getting fired up.
27:53Yeah, it looks good.
28:07You want some dirt?
28:09Hey, Parker.
28:10You want some dirt?
28:12Yeah.
28:13I'm still in a shape.
28:16Fire it up.
28:17I'm so happy that I was able to spot it right away
28:39and shut it down
28:40because there were so many rocks
28:42that were jammed up in the belt.
28:48How's Amy doing?
28:49She's out with that well.
28:50Yeah, definitely.
28:51She did it exactly how we showed her.
28:53Yeah.
28:54All right.
28:55See you on the flip side.
28:56See ya.
28:56Amy's doing wonderful.
28:58Couldn't have done anything better, really.
29:00The bar is set high.
29:02With the gold price as is,
29:18it doesn't take long
29:19to make a small fortune, so to speak.
29:22So, let's make hay when the sun shines,
29:24as I used to say.
29:26At the early bird extension,
29:28Tony is battling to open his new ground
29:31before his only running wash plan,
29:33Sluice-A-Lot, runs out of pay.
29:36We lost a bit of stripping time.
29:38We have to get the early bird extension cut ready.
29:41Just stay ahead, stay ahead, stay ahead.
29:45But he's dealing with a batch of rookies
29:47who are struggling.
29:52What they said,
29:53of all the trucks that are driving around there
29:55and everything,
29:56none of them still have a clue
29:57as to what the f*** has happened.
29:58Some have it, some will never f***ing get it.
30:00So, I was going to snoop around for a second.
30:11I'm back here today,
30:13and I am really glad
30:15Tony didn't fire me.
30:17Tony has his eye on greenhorned Sam,
30:20who flipped his rock truck
30:22earlier in the week.
30:24I'm still on pretty thin ice.
30:26You feel like anything could get you fired
30:29if you're not careful.
30:31With the clock ticking,
30:33Tony has brought in experienced truck driver,
30:36Mason McIntyre,
30:37to help out.
30:38The conditions down here
30:40are pretty sloppy right now.
30:42It's causing, like,
30:43a lot of big ruts,
30:45which is hard to drive in sometimes
30:47for some people.
30:47You've got to adjust to the conditions.
30:51Some people catch on really quick
30:53and are used to it,
30:55and some people just don't catch on at all,
30:57and that's how mistakes happen.
31:00That could be quite dangerous, honestly,
31:03if you can't run something like this,
31:04which is not simple,
31:06but a lot more simple
31:07than another piece of equipment.
31:10Oh, f***, f***,
31:11somebody dumped her.
31:12You, f***, f***, f***,
31:17it's going to be a f***, f***, mess.
31:21I'll be right the f*** over there
31:23and have a look at it, okay?
31:24Don't f***, f***, move.
31:36You, f***, f***, f***,
31:39it's going to be a f***, f***, mess.
31:43I'll be right the f*** over there
31:44and have a look at it, okay?
31:46Don't f***, f***, move.
31:47At Tony Beat's early bird cut,
31:50another $300,000 rock truck
31:53has flipped.
31:55The one-two system
31:56seems to work pretty good.
31:58If you f*** up something twice,
32:00I'll just fire the f***,
32:02and I'll be the one that's happy.
32:08Does the idiot still buy the truck or was it?
32:11Yeah.
32:11What the f*** was it?
32:25Yeah, that f***, pal.
32:28What happened, Mason?
32:29Got a little soft.
32:31A little soft down there, or what?
32:32Yeah, a little bit.
32:34Experienced driver Mason McIntyre
32:36has flipped his first truck.
32:38Okay, I'll scoop it up.
32:39You can own the cap.
32:40Let's get the f*** thing out of there, okay?
32:42Okay.
32:45Oh, yeah, let's take a little bit of the dirt out.
32:49Tony uses the 480 excavator
32:51to empty the rock truck's box of dirt
32:53and push it upright.
32:55Hopefully they'll learn something,
32:57and then the next one we know is bottom.
32:59Part of me is happy to see
33:01that it happens to other people besides me,
33:04but, I mean, I feel for the guy.
33:06It's pretty unpleasant
33:08when the box slips over on your rock truck.
33:10That's my first truck I tipped over.
33:31It was a little scary.
33:33Tony was pretty relaxed.
33:35I think I had the luck
33:36because I'm here in my second season.
33:39Tony's crew are back in the race
33:42to get down to pay
33:44before Sluice-A-Lot runs out.
33:47If you want to do X amount of ounces a year,
33:49you need X amount of people,
33:51so you'd better put up
33:52with some more s***, I suppose.
33:54But sometimes it's not that easy,
33:56especially when it costs money.
33:57I mean, they turn trucks over.
33:58But sometimes you wonder
34:00what the heck you're doing.
34:06I asked Troy to come down
34:18and meet me here.
34:20I'm basically going to tell him
34:21that his contract is bulls***.
34:22I mean, I don't know
34:22what he wants me to do with this.
34:23I'm not budging off that ground,
34:25and I'm not signing this,
34:25so we need to come
34:27to some kind of compromise.
34:28After moving his crew
34:34to a new claim on Lightning Creek,
34:38Rick Ness has called a meeting
34:40with landlord Troy Taylor
34:41to negotiate the terms of the lease.
34:44Hey, Troy.
34:45Hey, Rick.
34:46How you doing?
34:46Good.
34:47Good to see you.
34:50We've got to put some signatures
34:52on paper and make it legal.
34:56There's no way.
34:57I have gone over the contract
34:59and a lot of things
35:01that I don't like.
35:03It says that you have the right
35:04to change the mining plan
35:05at any time.
35:06You can pull my equipment
35:07and my personnel
35:09when you see fit.
35:10There's an awful lot of power
35:11going in your hands here.
35:13I mean, I would like to think
35:14that our last contract
35:15went pretty smooth.
35:16I think it's coming down
35:17to a trusting,
35:18and, you know,
35:20for me right here
35:21in this contract,
35:22it looks like you don't
35:22trust me at all.
35:23And so I'm kind of wondering
35:24why I trust this, you know?
35:26Yeah, I get that.
35:29It's nothing personal.
35:32It's just since the last agreement,
35:34things have changed so much.
35:36With the water licenses these days,
35:39if there's any blemish,
35:40if you are doing anything wrong,
35:43maybe you weren't here
35:44on a day that something's
35:46going sideways,
35:48it will be reflected on me.
35:50It could result in getting
35:52my water license revoked.
35:54I want to keep mining,
35:56so I have to have some teeth
35:58in this agreement.
36:07I can kind of see
36:08where you're coming from, Troy,
36:09but I don't believe
36:10that this level of supervision
36:12is necessary.
36:13I mean, I don't want to feel
36:15like I'm looking over my shoulder
36:16all the time,
36:16and that's why I brought this
36:18off the bat.
36:20That's the 100 ounces
36:21that I owe you
36:22as a minimum royalty
36:23on this deal,
36:24and I'd be willing
36:25to give that to you
36:26up front right now today
36:27and get rid of this.
36:28Oh, boy.
36:44I, from my perspective,
36:47if I don't have some control
36:49in the agreement,
36:49that's all I've got.
36:50I can't,
36:51I can't back up on that.
36:52I just can't.
36:55I understand
36:56it's got to be a tough one
36:57and a tough pill to swallow.
37:08What if I buy it?
37:14That's a big one for me.
37:19I would need another,
37:21another 200 ounces
37:22on top of this.
37:24So 300 ounces total?
37:26Yes.
37:27It's just,
37:34it's just too much.
37:36You know,
37:36I get that ground
37:38is at a premium
37:38with a water license right now,
37:39but it's a lot of
37:40money on the line
37:41and I won't be squeezed.
37:42It's just not going to happen.
37:47How about
37:47I get you another 100 ounces?
37:50That's 200 ounces total,
37:51and then we,
37:52then we call that good.
38:00I'm still responsible
38:01for the water license
38:02until I get paid.
38:04As you know,
38:05I'm,
38:05I'm still on the hook.
38:06How about
38:07by the end of the month
38:09and then we part ways.
38:10This is gone,
38:12your name's off it,
38:13I take over the ground.
38:15In a month?
38:15In a month.
38:16Your liability's gone,
38:18you're paid.
38:21Rick,
38:21that's a lot of gold
38:22to produce in a month.
38:24You've got a lot of stuff
38:25to do still.
38:26If that's what it's going to take
38:27to mine this ground,
38:28mine way,
38:28that's,
38:29that's what we're going to do.
38:30I'll make it happen.
38:33Well,
38:33I like your determination.
38:34Let's do it.
38:37All good?
38:38Yeah.
38:38All right.
38:40All right.
38:41Deal done.
38:42Well,
38:42we don't need this anymore.
38:45Rick Ness
38:46has just purchased
38:47another 1,600 acres of land
38:50for $700,000 in gold.
38:54I'm not sure what I just did.
38:56I think I came out on top.
38:58Gold prices are higher than ever,
38:59but right now it seems
39:00that a ground
39:01with a water license on it
39:02is even harder to find.
39:04He owns it.
39:04It's all his.
39:06So,
39:07hope it's good ground
39:07and I wish him the best.
39:09The guys are probably
39:10going to question this.
39:11This ground is,
39:12we haven't even solution it yet,
39:13but we did test it.
39:14We know there's gold,
39:14so I need to get us ground.
39:16I need to just get us going.
39:17This was the only way
39:17I saw how to do it.
39:28Woo!
39:29We've hired a lot of people
39:30this year.
39:31I'm Ethan.
39:32I'm Raya.
39:33I'm Jordan.
39:34They've come with a range
39:35of skills.
39:36I've milked cows my whole life.
39:38Demolition side of things.
39:40I was a line cook before this.
39:41The revolving door of new people
39:43is not going to stop this year.
39:45New recruits have come
39:47from far and wide.
39:48I went for a motorcycle ride
39:503,500 kilometers from home
39:51to find Parker.
39:53Hello.
39:54Hey, Parker.
39:55You're Steve, right?
39:55Yes, yes.
39:56Good to meet you.
39:56I heard that you just
39:57showed up on a motorcycle.
39:59Yeah, it's sitting
39:59at your office.
40:00I saw it there.
40:01And I was like,
40:01that.
40:02And then today is not
40:03the day for tourists.
40:04And then Nona found me.
40:05He was like,
40:06oh, he's in the loader.
40:08No, I've been running
40:09equipment for 30 years,
40:10and I've always dreamed
40:11of coming up here doing this.
40:12Do you have, like,
40:13work clothes and stuff?
40:15This is it.
40:16It's, like, literally
40:17in his writing clothes.
40:19Glad to have you on board.
40:20Can you take a picture?
40:22Here you go, Steve.
40:29They'll be around
40:31at the early bird extension
40:32cut for a while.
40:33So they're just going to check
40:34so they're down to pay.
40:40At the early bird extension,
40:42Tony is panning
40:44to see if his crew
40:46has hit pay.
40:50Usually we look for gold
40:52in the pan.
40:54You know, we don't wash
40:55rocks for the fun of it.
40:59Huh?
41:00There is no way.
41:02Hey, Jacob, D-copy.
41:04Jacob, D-copy.
41:08Okay, bring them guys in
41:11and just doing some
41:11panning in the cut.
41:16Good morning, gentlemen.
41:32Good morning.
41:33Good morning.
41:33Good morning.
41:34In case you're wondering,
41:35we're looking for gold.
41:40Look at that.
41:41So that's pay dirt to me.
41:43You know, you're looking at, Sam?
41:44Not exactly.
41:45No, well, that don't surprise me.
41:46Okay, I see that.
41:47Okay, well, there you go.
41:48Yeah, that's what it's all about, Sam.
41:50It's like that.
41:51It actually looks very nice.
41:54There's lots of colors in there.
41:56It looks good.
41:58The circle's up at the top.
42:00I'd say this cut is ready to be going
42:02in the sluice box, eh?
42:03Oh, for sure.
42:05Give you guys an idea
42:07as to what we're after.
42:08Yeah.
42:09Let's go get some more.
42:10Yeah, sir.
42:11You bet.
42:12Yeah, seeing that pan of gold,
42:14put some gold in it was nice.
42:16I've had a few mistakes
42:18coming in here,
42:19but, you know,
42:19seeing the gold makes it worth it.
42:22We have a lot of people
42:23that never even been in an airplane.
42:25They come up here,
42:26never mind the piece of equipment,
42:27but somehow you're going
42:28to have to make it work.
42:29And as long as you get
42:30some gold in your pocket,
42:32then on the end of the day,
42:33it's all worth it.
42:40Hello, family.
42:43Hey, guys.
42:43How are you?
42:45Good.
42:45How are you?
42:48Get that pail off the table.
42:50Holy crap.
42:52Bring it over here, Michael.
42:56After a turbulent week
42:57at Indian River,
42:59Tony is ready to weigh the gold
43:01from the early bird cut.
43:03How's your new crew doing?
43:05Well, greenhorns.
43:06You know, come with troubles.
43:07We tipped the hot rock truck box
43:09here or there.
43:10Jacob had to rescue one
43:11the other day.
43:12I mean, you got the same thing
43:13on the hill, right?
43:14You get new people,
43:15you got the same old problem.
43:16Most mine are attorney, so...
43:18Yeah.
43:18Yeah, well, that's lucky
43:20because then you don't
43:20have half that crap.
43:22Do you want to see
43:23the fruits of your labors?
43:25Last week,
43:26the early bird cut
43:27delivered 214 ounces.
43:29You ready, Mike?
43:35Yeah.
43:3710, 20, 30, 60, 70, 80, 100, 110, 120, 130, 140, 142.14.
43:52Worth nearly half a million dollars,
43:57bringing Tony's total
43:59to 774 ounces.
44:03But it's a drop in production.
44:05If Tony is going to hit
44:07his 6,500-ounce goal,
44:09his extension of the early bird cut
44:11will have to deliver
44:13a big improvement.
44:14So, we're still a little ways off
44:17from our goal.
44:19It's still pretty early.
44:20We'll get there.
44:22That I think everybody
44:23should go back to work.
44:24Yeah.
44:24Sounds good.
44:24Why don't you guys
44:25go make us some more money?
44:27Okay, take your s*** with you, Mike.
44:29Bye.
44:29Yeah, bye.
44:30Don't go away mad, guys.
44:32Love you.
44:33Yeah, s*** off.
44:33Where's Chris?
44:50He's on the side.
44:51He didn't hear us.
44:52Chris.
44:53Oh, his new hearing aids
44:54really don't work.
44:57Sorry, I'm late.
44:58No, you're fine.
44:59Anything crazy happen
45:00down on your end?
45:02It's just lots of dirt.
45:03Yeah.
45:03Yeah, just trying to stack
45:05everything up.
45:06Yeah, we're really limited
45:07on space.
45:07It's very tight up there.
45:09Mitch and Brennan
45:10have been stripping ground
45:12at Sulphur Creek
45:13while at Dominion,
45:15Tyson's kept two wash plants
45:17sluicing with new crew.
45:19You got a new plant operator,
45:21Amy?
45:22Yeah.
45:23How's she doing?
45:24She's doing really good, yeah.
45:25Is she?
45:26Going from being a school teacher
45:27to a loader operator,
45:28so that's definitely
45:29the change of pace for her.
45:31But yeah, she's doing really good.
45:33Is it, though?
45:35If she was like a kindergarten
45:36to fifth grade,
45:37it's probably not
45:37that much different.
45:41I have to talk really slow
45:42to these guys
45:43so they understand me.
45:44Don't eat the crayons.
45:48Two plants running, though,
45:49all week?
45:50Yeah, two plants.
45:51You got two plants, man.
45:52You're responsible
45:53for both of them.
45:54Here we go, slucifer.
45:58Wash plant slucifer's been running
46:00in the Golden Mile all week,
46:02and Parker's hoping to see an uptick
46:04from last week's 112 ounces.
46:08Let's see how the Golden Mile did.
46:0910, 30, 40, 70, 80, 100 ounces.
46:19It was 120, 130, 150, 152 even.
46:26Worth over $530,000,
46:29a 35% increase from last week.
46:33Perfect.
46:34That's a lot better.
46:35A lot better.
46:36Picked up a few ounces
46:37over last week.
46:38Definitely.
46:39Working some kinks out.
46:40Yeah.
46:41Next up, Bob at the Bridge Cut,
46:44which is averaging 143 ounces a week.
46:48We got 30, 50, 80, 100, 120, 140, 150, 156.2.
46:59Worth almost $550,000.
47:03Wow.
47:03That was close, eh?
47:05Yeah.
47:05Those two plants are four ounces off each other?
47:08Just a couple ounces off of each other.
47:10That's weird.
47:11Yeah, that's crazy.
47:13This week, we got 308.2 ounces,
47:17which give us a season total of 707.9.
47:21Tyson has nearly doubled their season total.
47:25You know, last year at this time,
47:27we were talking about 10,000 ounces,
47:28and we were all thinking it was pretty doable.
47:30Are we thinking we're going to do it this year?
47:34You're too early to ask that question.
47:37You guys need to get on the board now?
47:39Yeah.
47:39We'll do it.
47:40Hopefully next week,
47:41there'll be three pans lined up there.
47:43There will be.
47:45Right?
47:48Sounds like we don't got a choice.
47:49No.
47:51All right.
47:51Have a good one.
47:52Thanks, Chris.
47:52Thanks, Chris.
47:53Thanks, Chris.
47:54Thanks, Chris.
47:55Thanks, Chris.
47:56Thanks, Chris.
47:56Thanks, Chris.
47:57Thanks, Chris.
47:57Thanks, Chris.
47:58Thanks, Chris.
47:58Thanks, Chris.
47:59Thanks, Chris.
48:00Thanks, Chris.
48:01Thanks, Chris.
48:02Thanks, Chris.
48:03Thanks, Chris.
48:04Thanks, Chris.
48:05Thanks, Chris.
48:06Thanks, Chris.
48:07Thanks, Chris.
48:09Thanks, Chris.
48:10Thanks, Chris.
