Nigerian chef Loola is serving up more than just flavor, she is dishing out a whole new way to glow from the inside. Here is the recipe for your gourmet wellness journey.
00:00What if the cure for chronic illness wasn't a pill, but a plate?
00:07Chef Lula is redefining wellness in Africa through food, fitness and holistic living.
00:13The only way to have a healthy body is through our diet, basically.
00:17Because even before a pill comes into the picture, your meals, everything you're eating on a daily basis is what builds up to how strong your human body is.
00:27Before the healthy plates and food classes, there was just a woman with a question.
00:32What if we could eat our way to healing?
00:35What does this mean for Tolua Lache, Omito Woju, learner Chef Lula?
00:40For every time you require your food to function, you need to charge it.
00:44And that's what food does. So let's go back to food.
00:47Now, the food is energy and that energy is what charges all your human cells.
00:54So if the quality of your food is low, if it's not enough, if it's too much, if it's not in balance, the human body can't charge to its full potential.
01:03For me, it's been practical. The more I ate those meals that are turned as healthy, the better I felt within my body.
01:12I was feeling it. I was giving people around me and I was seeing improvements in their diet and everything.
01:17I was like, okay, this now has to become a lifestyle for me.
01:21Chef Lula is a health-focused chef and passionate wellness and advocate from the vibrant city of Lagos.
01:30Her modern wellness principles are to create nourishing culinary experiences that uplift and inspire.
01:37From farmers markets to fitness mats, Chef Lula's approach blends tradition and transformation.
01:44But how exactly does she do it?
01:47I would agree that my approach merges tradition and transformation because I understand that God gives the food that will help our body to the environment that requires that food.
02:03So when you decide that you want to eat healthy, you don't have to get foreign things.
02:08Every society has the nutrients in the plants and the food that grows in that area.
02:15So if, for example, you had diabetes and you're used to eating jollof rice, you can choose to start eating jollof millet, which is also a grain that grows.
02:24You can eat jollof fune, which is also a grain that grows in Nigeria, you know, but you're not missing anything on the flavors that you'll use.
02:31Chef Lula learnt the art of cooking and healing through food from her grandmother, who passed down traditional wisdom and recipes.
02:39She now shares her knowledge through classes and courses, focusing on therapeutic nutrition.
02:46Everyone knows a healthy diet keeps the body healthy.
02:50But what about curing chronic diseases with the right food?
02:54It's not about replacing medicine, but certain foods can support or counteract conditions.
03:00Why it's important for me to focus on chronic illness is because I saw someone literally lose their life from chronic illness.
03:08And I feel that if people can get tips and skills to be able to prevent these illnesses, then we won't even be getting to the point where we are trying to reverse disease.
03:19So prevention is key for me. And I noticed that in Nigeria, diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, cancer is on the rise.
03:27And I am very passionate about teaching people how they can prevent and also reverse it using diet.
03:33So nutrition and nutrition is a key pillar to chef Lula's philosophy.
03:41She also emphasizes the role of physical exercise and fitness.
03:46Though every individual is different.
03:48Is there a simple, relatable way to understand how these elements can be balanced for overall wellbeing?
03:54The nutrients that you need to support all the organs of your body is gotten from food.
03:59So if lack of nutrients and lack of support, proper support of the body is what causes the disease.
04:06That means that if you give the body those nutrients, the disease can be reversed, right?
04:11So that's the whole concept of reversing disease using diet.
04:14Because it is diet that you can use to get the nutrients, it is still diet that you can use to supplement if it's the low power.
04:24When you pay attention to your diet, your movement, as well as your breathing, you will find out that all the things in your body start to work.
04:34You sleep better, you are able to function better, you are less anxious and you are less tired and stressed.
04:40But beneath the meal plans and workouts is a deeper purpose healing, empowerment and reclaiming wellness as a right.
04:49For Chef Lula, every dish is a step forward generational change.
04:53I would say that every dish is a step towards generational change because whatever health decisions you make today is going to impact your future generations.
05:04Your genes are changing as you are making diet decisions.
05:09Healing doesn't just begin in hospitals or therapy rooms. It starts from within and often with what's on your plate.
05:16The food we eat can nourish more than just our bodies. It fuels our minds, lifts our spirits and can be the first step towards wholeness.
05:24This is a half hour.
05:28The food we eat in the kitchen, doesn't just need to be theảmolness.
05:32The food we eat is a little coldness.
05:33The food we eat is food we eat is sweet.
05:36The food we eat is the elephant pepper and the cup of coffee.
05:39The food we eat is eating so that it will be the best way to be the most eaters.
