Sexual violence against women is common in India. And misogyny is a part of everyday life, says Rapper JQueen. But more and more women like her stand up and fight for respect and their rights. JQueen holds her ground in the male- dominated Rrap scene. Music is her way to a self-determined life. Like others of her generation, JQueen is pushing back against traditional gender roles.

00:04I sometimes feel like I really want to punch a wall.
00:07Jacqueline Lucas, a.k.a. J-Queen, is a rarity in India,
00:11a female rapper in an almost entirely male rap world.
00:14Many of her songs are about being a woman in India
00:30and the frequent sexual violence.
00:34Each and every street, the women are not safe at all.
00:37J-Queen doesn't want to accept that
00:39or traditional gender roles anymore.
00:41We have to fight for what we want
00:45or else this place is not going to let us do what we want to do.
00:48To live a dream of being a rapper,
00:49she teamed up with other women, the Wild Wild Women.
00:57We all have been like, you know, said you can't do this,
01:00but we are going to roam freely.
01:02We are the barriers breaker.
01:05We are the future and nobody can stop us from that.
