00:00:00it's madden nfl 24 on ea sports where we'll see a brawl inside the nfc north it's the detroit
00:00:13lions and the chicago bears and it comes your way next we've had a lake effect snow van sitting over
00:00:23soldier field since about nine this morning and it's not supposed to budge anytime soon
00:00:28the good news the folks don't seem to mind here in chicago today we've got what's always a hard
00:00:34winning battle in the nfc north as it'll be the detroit lions taking on the chicago bears
00:00:41welcome again one and all thanks for tuning in i'm brandon gone on hand alongside charles davis and
00:00:49yes the storyline here the weather snow and more of it expected as this game continues so how will
00:00:55that impact how this one goes can these teams ignore the distraction and the strangeness
00:01:02of playing in a snow game because it actually affects the crowd as well that big roar you get
00:01:07is often muffled when there's a snow game and the second part what's the footwear you got on
00:01:12does that fit the turf you're playing on and how will it handle as things get a little bit slick
00:01:17set for football
00:01:47now on a gray and snowy november afternoon and off we go from soldier field
00:01:53and he won't quite make it to the 25 so here are the bears now for their opening drive
00:02:02they'll be led out by a first round pick back in 2021 from ohio state it's justin fields and not
00:02:09only does he have all the skills that you're looking for as a quarterback he's incredibly tough
00:02:14and plays the game fearlessly it's both a runner and a passer you provide a good running game around
00:02:19and let him throw deep off of play action you've got an all-star in the making
00:02:23and they'll run the option to start the drive and he'll get this one up to the 26
00:02:40only a couple for him there on the game's first play and it's second down
00:02:45i think that's the type of run we'll continue to see throughout this game the snow coming down
00:02:50i don't expect a lot of big plays to be broken this is second and eight
00:02:55fields
00:02:59and he can't find anywhere to go with it and he goes down
00:03:06multiple players combined for their team's first sack of the game
00:03:11just two plays in and charles already their first sack defensively
00:03:15yeah how about that that didn't take long did it and now they look at third down
00:03:19and that's another time to try and go and get the quarterback too
00:03:22throwing on third down fields
00:03:28and a good job defensively they stop him short of the first at the 32
00:03:35they'll get eight but they're gonna have to punt here on the opening drive because that's not enough
00:03:40that looked great when he first took off because in my mind there was room to run and he had the marker in his sight
00:03:46but i certainly didn't expect him to close so quickly and neither did he
00:03:50they got to him just in time and now that forced him to make a decision with this fourth down call
00:03:55on fourth down chicago brings out trenton gill
00:03:58back deep khalif raymond
00:04:00this is brought in at the 21
00:04:06they'll net only 35 here following a 43 yard boot
00:04:13eight yard return and the lions will take over
00:04:16so out comes this offense to take over for the first time
00:04:21they'll be let out by the first overall selection of the 2016 draft
00:04:27from cal it's jared goff
00:04:29and at one point the ascension of jared goff was really really strong back-to-back pro bowels
00:04:35took his team to the super bowl and came really within one quarter of winning it
00:04:39but since that time he's had bouts of inconsistency
00:04:43and that's been the struggle for him
00:04:45as he tries to get back to the form he showed earlier in his career
00:04:48goff in this lions offense
00:04:51set for a first and ten
00:04:52just shy of the 30
00:04:54from the gun he'll set up to throw
00:04:56and his throw's gonna be incomplete
00:04:59second and ten
00:05:13here's the former goal this is david montgomery
00:05:21and he's gonna be hemmed in and brought down right at the line of scrimmage
00:05:25no gain on that one as it brings up a third and ten
00:05:29early down steps to put this offense in precarious position
00:05:32we know they're securing the point of attack
00:05:34especially against the big body guys in the middle of this day
00:05:37has got to be priority one
00:05:39off play action
00:05:45here's goff
00:05:46and that is incomplete
00:05:49jack fox out to punt here on fourth down
00:06:05dante pettis deep for chicago
00:06:08it's a 42 yard punt they keep him to just a yard on the return
00:06:19and the bears take over
00:06:21chicago works their way back onto the field here for their second drive of the game
00:06:25and the last drive their first drive three and out
00:06:29what changes here if anything
00:06:31i think it's making sure the guys that you trust the most with the ball
00:06:35the biggest playmakers you have
00:06:37that they touch it on this possession to try and get things moving
00:06:40so get it to the horses
00:06:41without a doubt
00:06:42they're the ones that typically end up in the end zone
00:06:45mooney the motion man right
00:06:50now herbert to start the drive
00:06:53and he powers his way up past the 30
00:06:56that stop made by jack campbell
00:06:59that's a really nice tough run inside
00:07:03and they gave five yards on it
00:07:04and be frank about it
00:07:05most officers don't expect to get five yards on a play call like that
00:07:09so when they do
00:07:10they go back to their huddle with a little pep in their steps
00:07:13they're starting to think that they're starting to dominate
00:07:15the line of scrimmage
00:07:16another carry for herbert on second down
00:07:21and he'll get this to about the 34
00:07:23a gain of just three
00:07:25just not a whole lot of room to operate there on that carry
00:07:29no not at all
00:07:30they did a really nice job staying in their proper places
00:07:32and not allowing any lanes to open up
00:07:35third and two
00:07:37they'll run with herbert
00:07:43and he went backwards
00:07:45he'll be down at the 30
00:07:46losing four yards that time
00:07:50and now it's fourth down
00:07:51i thought he did a nice job there setting an edge
00:07:54to make sure nothing could get to the outside
00:07:55but he decided that wasn't enough for him
00:07:58worked his way back inside
00:08:00and made the tackle on the ball carrier
00:08:02fourth down
00:08:04so they send out Trenton Gill
00:08:06first kick 47
00:08:11this one looks good as well
00:08:13and here's a fair catch taken
00:08:15at about the 24 yard line
00:08:17so a change of possession here
00:08:20on the punt
00:08:20and they will take over
00:08:22first and ten
00:08:23they'll start on the ground
00:08:48with Montgomery
00:08:49and they string that play out nicely
00:08:54he's stopped before he can turn up field
00:08:57no gain
00:08:57second down
00:08:58defensively though
00:09:00they had a chance there to hit him for a loss
00:09:02couldn't get it done
00:09:03looked like someone was able to knife into the backfield
00:09:05but he wasn't able to get him down
00:09:07but his compatriots
00:09:08they were able to grab him at the line of scrimmage
00:09:11and not let him get any further downfield
00:09:13first run of the game
00:09:17for Jameer Gibbs
00:09:18the Alabama product
00:09:19and he's going to be dropped
00:09:20following a pickup of seven
00:09:22past the 30 to the 32
00:09:24that was a good run
00:09:26probably right on the edge
00:09:27of breaking into something really big
00:09:28so the defensive guys right now
00:09:30are talking about
00:09:31okay
00:09:31what can we do
00:09:33to slow him down
00:09:34before he truly gets started
00:09:36coming up here
00:09:37looking for three yards
00:09:38to pick up the first
00:09:39Gibbs will try and pick it up
00:09:44and he slips up past the 45
00:09:48before being tackled
00:09:50first down Detroit
00:09:5216 yards on the pickup
00:09:53that's a very nice game there
00:09:55a confidence building run
00:09:56love the execution up front
00:09:58and the way he pressed the hole
00:09:59absolutely perfect
00:10:01first and ten
00:10:08they've got three tight ends out there
00:10:10a jumbo package look
00:10:12they'll try the air now
00:10:14with Goff
00:10:15a little short pass here
00:10:17taken in by Laporta
00:10:19and they get to him
00:10:20after a gain of six
00:10:21to the 46
00:10:22I know sometimes
00:10:25we can get fooled
00:10:26when we watch him make catches
00:10:27as we just saw him do there
00:10:29because
00:10:29he really looks like a wide receiver
00:10:31the way he goes about his business
00:10:32yeah
00:10:33230-240 range
00:10:34yeah
00:10:35not super huge
00:10:36maybe not counted on
00:10:38to be that inline
00:10:39point of attack blocker
00:10:40that we used to have
00:10:41in the good old days
00:10:42but you can flex him out
00:10:43you can run wide receiver
00:10:44routes with him
00:10:45you can make him a primary target
00:10:47and that's how he'll shred the defense
00:10:49and he got half of what he needed there
00:10:51two yards
00:10:52and it'll bring up
00:10:53a third and two more
00:10:54that's all about doing
00:10:55the dirty work right there
00:10:56defensively
00:10:57second and short yardage
00:10:58that's all about
00:10:59plugging those gaps
00:11:00not giving a running back
00:11:01a crease to run through
00:11:02and that's a nice job
00:11:03to hold him
00:11:03just a couple of fourths
00:11:04and third down
00:11:05third and two
00:11:07gone
00:11:08out route
00:11:10he finds his man
00:11:11it's Jones
00:11:12he'll be getting him
00:11:13just a yard
00:11:14and it'll be fourth down
00:11:15and that's gonna be
00:11:16a tough one to explain
00:11:17when they get to keep
00:11:18and watch the game club
00:11:19isn't it
00:11:20I mean they had the right call
00:11:21had the out route
00:11:22he's gotta know
00:11:23where the first down sticks are
00:11:25yet he steps out of bounds
00:11:26that close
00:11:27not their best play
00:11:29and here now
00:11:32the punter Fox
00:11:33as he sends this one away
00:11:35and no return here
00:11:36where will they spot it
00:11:38they say just outside
00:11:39the 20 yard line
00:11:40the Chicago offense
00:11:42set to get started
00:11:43we sort of suspected
00:11:45that the elements
00:11:46might wreak havoc
00:11:47on both of these offenses
00:11:48and that's been the case
00:11:49no points on either side
00:11:51as this drive begins
00:11:52with a first down
00:11:53starting on the ground
00:12:06with Herbert
00:12:07they'll get this to the 24
00:12:09and it's second down
00:12:10give credit to the defense
00:12:12for stringing that play out
00:12:14and they gave up
00:12:16no cutback angle
00:12:17you know he's trying
00:12:17to dart through
00:12:18no place for him to go
00:12:20a nice job there
00:12:21only giving up
00:12:22the three yard game
00:12:23and they'll come up
00:12:24second and seven
00:12:25they'll toss it out
00:12:32right to Herbert
00:12:33and there is nowhere
00:12:35for him to cut back
00:12:37as he's taken down
00:12:38in the backfield
00:12:39now they're staring
00:12:41at a third and eight
00:12:41that last play
00:12:42backwards a yard
00:12:44the running lanes
00:12:45have definitely not
00:12:45been there for him
00:12:46here in the first half
00:12:47and I don't think
00:12:48it's all been his fault
00:12:49his offensive line
00:12:50hasn't given him much space
00:12:51a loss results there
00:12:53from the gun
00:12:57on third down
00:12:58fields
00:12:58oh he had a man
00:13:02open
00:13:02he overshot
00:13:04and it's incomplete
00:13:05oh boy
00:13:07tough conditions
00:13:07out there
00:13:08I don't know
00:13:09if a defender
00:13:09slipped or what
00:13:10but he had a man
00:13:11wide open
00:13:12and that's a bad
00:13:13one to miss on
00:13:14they don't come
00:13:15a whole lot easier
00:13:16than that one
00:13:16right there
00:13:17here's Trenton Gill
00:13:19now
00:13:19and he's getting
00:13:24a workout here
00:13:24in this first quarter
00:13:25as he gets it away
00:13:26and take it right
00:13:28on the 30
00:13:28we're scoreless
00:13:36after one
00:13:37the Lions
00:13:43with the football
00:13:43here to begin
00:13:44the second quarter
00:13:45as they get set
00:13:47to start their drive
00:13:48with a first and ten
00:13:49the Detroit offense
00:14:00ready to begin
00:14:01their drive
00:14:02the crowd
00:14:03may be losing
00:14:04just a little bit
00:14:04of the edge
00:14:05after back-to-back punts
00:14:07they want some big plays
00:14:08they want to see
00:14:09some offense
00:14:09they want to see
00:14:10somebody break away
00:14:11whether it's through
00:14:12the air
00:14:12or on the ground
00:14:14now it'll be
00:14:15interesting to see
00:14:16where the patience
00:14:16is on both sides
00:14:17each head coach
00:14:18can you hang in there
00:14:20and not try and
00:14:21force something
00:14:21that could put
00:14:22your team
00:14:22in some jeopardy
00:14:24here's a second
00:14:26and five
00:14:27now golf
00:14:33and a quick throw
00:14:35here
00:14:35that's complete
00:14:36his first catch
00:14:38good from eight
00:14:39and a first down
00:14:40many different ways
00:14:41to create space
00:14:42but on that play
00:14:42he did it with that
00:14:43big wide body
00:14:44of his
00:14:45didn't get a whole lot
00:14:46of yardage on the play
00:14:47but it did what it was
00:14:48supposed to
00:14:48pick up a first down
00:14:50first down
00:14:59here's the run
00:15:00with Montgomery
00:15:00still going inside
00:15:04the 20
00:15:05and he'll get
00:15:06into the end zone
00:15:08touchdown
00:15:09Detroit
00:15:10David Montgomery
00:15:1251 yards
00:15:14and the Lions
00:15:15post the first
00:15:16points of the ball game
00:15:17as they take the lead
00:15:19here in this second
00:15:19quarter
00:15:20the game had been
00:15:23pretty uneventful
00:15:24offensively until
00:15:25that big strike
00:15:26no doubt about it
00:15:28almost felt like
00:15:28they were just going
00:15:29back and forth a little
00:15:30bit in the first
00:15:31quarter
00:15:31but in the second
00:15:32quarter
00:15:33things ramped up
00:15:34a little bit
00:15:34things jumped up
00:15:36and you're exactly
00:15:36right
00:15:37gonna make a
00:15:37highlight film or
00:15:38two
00:15:38we'll be watching
00:15:39that one later on
00:15:40today
00:15:41extra point
00:15:43through the snowflakes
00:15:45up and good
00:15:45and that makes
00:15:46the score seven
00:15:47nothing
00:15:48there is nothing
00:15:49there is nothing
00:15:51there is nothing
00:15:51there is nothing
00:15:52there is nothing
00:15:52there is nothing
00:15:53there is nothing

00:16:15there is nothing
00:16:16there is nothing
00:16:17there is nothing
00:16:18Here are the Lions now as they line up and kick this one away.
00:16:33And he's up across the 25 and down at the 28.
00:16:38Now Chicago getting ready to go as they take the field.
00:16:42It hasn't gone particularly well for them, that's obvious.
00:16:44In these conditions, no points so far.
00:16:47They've got to get that offense on track.
00:16:48The question, how do they do it?
00:16:50It is the age-old question, isn't it?
00:16:52And to me, finding a way to make sure your playmakers touch the ball without it being too exotic.
00:16:59Meaning you don't have to go deep down the field.
00:17:02Maybe you hit them on those short passes on the perimeter.
00:17:05Make sure you just turn around and hand it to your best runner and get out of the way.
00:17:10Don't cause any extra stress on your offense.
00:17:13Fields throw complete here on target to tenure.
00:17:16And he gets this one just shy of the 40 down at the 39.
00:17:21A gain of 11 to kick off the drive and it's a quick first down.
00:17:24I like how they work the tight end on a nice little under route there.
00:17:27And if you're going to give him that much space, he's not even going to catch the football.
00:17:30He's going to run away from me a little bit.
00:17:32And that's exactly what he just did there, picking up extra yardage.
00:17:34And they run the option here on first and 10.
00:17:41A strong running there as he's across midfield and down to the 49.
00:17:46A really nice effort that time.
00:17:4812 yards on the keeper, picking up the first.
00:17:51It looked like almost a miscommunication defensively.
00:17:54Because once he decided to keep it, he had pretty smooth sailing.
00:17:57Yeah, it became a question of, wait a minute, who's got the quarterback?
00:18:00And when you talk about miscommunication, it's supposed to be called assignment football on the defensive side of the ball.
00:18:06But the assignment gets mixed up.
00:18:08That's the end result.
00:18:10And the result here, a pick up of eight.
00:18:12Leaves him with two to go on second down.
00:18:15Nice rhythm throw there on first down.
00:18:17He located his tight end, made it a nice easy pitch and catch.
00:18:20Hoping he can break a tackle or two.
00:18:22Wasn't able to do that there, but still good yardage.
00:18:24Now a second and two.
00:18:32Play action.
00:18:34It's fields.
00:18:36And he'll get this complete downfield to come up.
00:18:39And they do get him down, but not before he's able to slip it inside the five-yard line.
00:18:45That one good for 37 yards.
00:18:48And that might be exactly what they needed to wake up this home crowd.
00:18:51They haven't given them much to cheer for so far and never underestimate the effect the home crowd with you can have on a game.
00:19:09Herbert.
00:19:11Will score.
00:19:13Touchdown, Chicago.
00:19:14Cairo Santos on to try the extra point.
00:19:38It's up and good, and we're tied at seven here in corner number two.
00:19:42The drive summary that time, five plays.
00:19:47And it results in a four-yard touchdown run.
00:19:49So we'll leave it at seven now as they kick it away.
00:20:12Here comes Kalief Raymond from his end zone.
00:20:20And that decision to bring it out ends up not being a good one.
00:20:22Costs him about five yards as he's tackled it to 20.
00:20:26The Lions offense, they get ready to head back onto the field.
00:20:30This drive here beginning probably with a pair of motivated groups.
00:20:33Remember, the offense scored a touchdown on their last timeout.
00:20:36Looking to repeat that in Charles' defense.
00:20:38They were very frustrated after giving up six the last time on the field.
00:20:42And frankly, it's just a battle of wills in a lot of ways because you know they're both motivated.
00:20:47They both game plan for this drive.
00:20:49And they both have specific outcomes in mind.
00:20:52To me, it just comes down to who can execute better and which side can step up and assert its will over the other.
00:20:58Throwing on first down, but this one winds up to be incomplete.
00:21:02Had an open man that time.
00:21:03May end up putting a little too much heat on it.
00:21:05Absolutely, just needed a touch more air under it.
00:21:08Instead, he fired an absolute bullet.
00:21:12After the incompletion, here's second and ten from the 20.
00:21:19Now a give running right is Montgomery.
00:21:21Off past the 25 to the 26.
00:21:24A gain of five.
00:21:25I think we all suspected that they were going back to him after he found the end zone on his last carry.
00:21:31And they kept the positive momentum going there.
00:21:33Another nice run by him.
00:21:37The Lions on third down.
00:21:39Just one for three thus far.
00:21:41This will be third and five.
00:21:44Now whistles and a flag down.
00:21:46Looked like one of the Lions linemen might have moved.
00:21:49That's on the tackle.
00:21:53Panay Sewell.
00:21:59Still third down.
00:22:01And this offense backed and eating ten yards after the false start.
00:22:05Third and ten.
00:22:09Gone.
00:22:09Pass taken in by his big tight end.
00:22:18And he's going to be taken down.
00:22:19Plus, there's a penalty flag in the backfield.
00:22:22They may get 15 more on top of this.
00:22:28So a little extra on top of the big play there.
00:22:31It's tough for guys rushing to pass her.
00:22:33But you have to know when the ball is gone.
00:22:35And if you listen, officials will tell you ball's gone.
00:22:38He didn't pull up.
00:22:44On first down.
00:22:45Gone.
00:22:48That throw right side here going to be incomplete.
00:22:52They'll definitely say that's what he should have held on to.
00:22:54But when you're playing in elements like this,
00:22:56sometimes those bullet passes,
00:22:58those ones with a little bit of pace on them,
00:22:59they can be difficult to hold on to.
00:23:04Here's second and ten.
00:23:08Out of the gun.
00:23:11They'll give to Gibbs.
00:23:13They get six.
00:23:14That'll leave them with third and four.
00:23:16He had to fight for every yard on that run.
00:23:19Shook himself free of a tackle and kept fighting.
00:23:22Even with the rest of the defense closing in on it.
00:23:24That's the kind of effort you'll take every single time.
00:23:27This now a third and four.
00:23:34Out of the gun.
00:23:36Goff.
00:23:40He's got his man.
00:23:41It's caught for a Lion touchdown.
00:23:43Now, Jameer Gibbs, 27 yards.
00:23:49And the Lions have taken the lead.
00:23:53Well, he wasn't the guy they were initially going for,
00:23:55but after going through the progressions, it worked.
00:23:58When you have plenty of people who can catch the football,
00:24:00you don't always have to go to your primary target.
00:24:03And sometimes that target is actually covered.
00:24:05Nice job coming off of that and getting it to someone who was open.
00:24:08And the man out of the backfield gets in for the score.
00:24:11Extra point try now for Patterson.
00:24:18And he's got it.
00:24:19It's now a 14-7 ball game.
00:24:23So that drive spanned five plays.
00:24:25And Jameer Gibbs finished it all off with a touchdown grab.
00:24:38Here are the Lions now as they line up and kick this one away.
00:25:01And good coverage there on special teams as he'll get them down shy of the 20.
00:25:05Another drive coming up for this Chicago offense.
00:25:10A long drive last time out for this offense.
00:25:12Charles, if you remember, they started basically in the shadows of their own end zone,
00:25:16marched it down the field, and a lot of that was through the passing game.
00:25:20And, partner, as a former defensive back, I'm having almost a physical reaction
00:25:23watching what's happening right now.
00:25:25But let's give credit where it's too because they've done an excellent job
00:25:29moving the ball through the air.
00:25:30Secondary getting picked apart pass by pass.
00:25:33Obviously, they need to make some adjustments there on the back end.
00:25:35Yeah, because offensively, we know that they're not going to be shy
00:25:39about throwing that football.
00:25:41He'll get a nice chunk there on the first down run, and it's second at four.
00:25:45So if you've been playing defense in this one, there's a little bit of the good
00:25:48and some bad because they did give up the touchdown run to him earlier
00:25:51but shut him down otherwise.
00:25:53Outside of that, you're exactly right.
00:25:54I would say they've contained him very well.
00:25:56Meanwhile, Fields' throw complete here to come in.
00:26:01He's up over 50 yards receiving now in his first half.
00:26:05It's a first down.
00:26:06That was a route run not just with dexterity but with intelligence.
00:26:10Found the hole in the zone, made sure the quarterback saw him
00:26:13and was able to make the sure catch and put the down marker back to one.
00:26:17Field's on first down.
00:26:24And it's a fumble.
00:26:26Oh, and one of the linemen on the other side has got it.
00:26:29And they'll start with great field position at the 41-yard line.
00:26:34Following the fumble recovery, Goff.
00:26:53Jones has it.
00:26:55And brought down but not before they're inside the 25.
00:27:00Now we're going to get a stoppage.
00:27:02Appears to be an injured bear on the field.
00:27:04So as the medical staff takes a look, we'll step aside.
00:27:35Now Goff on first down.
00:27:40And his throw is incomplete.
00:27:42I think he's got to be careful not to force anything into coverage right there.
00:27:46There weren't really any throwing lanes.
00:27:48But the best part for him, he's got second and third down to fall back on.
00:27:51Goff on first down to fall back on first down to fall back on first down to fall back on first down.
00:28:05And he's got second and third down to Montgomery.
00:28:06And able to break one tackle but then quickly brought down.
00:28:11But a nice little game.
00:28:13Nine yards and that leaves him just short.
00:28:15So it'll be third and less than a yard.
00:28:17When you run a screen pass really well, you've got to like the look of it.
00:28:21Because so many parts come together to make it work well.
00:28:24The offensive linemen where they're faking people out.
00:28:26The back slipping out there, catching the football.
00:28:29Then all of them going together as one unit downfield.
00:28:32A really nice pick up.
00:28:33Throw to St. Brown.
00:28:34Complete on the left side.
00:28:36Give him a gain of four.
00:28:38Able to convert.
00:28:39And that sets up first and goal now.
00:28:41Got to say, I was a little surprised to see him, Charles, come out in the shotgun on third and less than a yard.
00:28:45Yeah, but the way the NFL is nowadays, we hardly ever see anyone really run for it on short yardage.
00:28:51So they're going to throw the football more times than not.
00:28:54That was a nice, easy rhythm throw right there.
00:28:56And they pick up the first down.
00:29:11Throwing again is Goff.
00:29:22And that is caught.
00:29:24Touchdown, Detroit.
00:29:26Jared Goff to Amin Ross St. Brown.
00:29:29And the Lions will extend their lead in the final minute of the half.
00:29:34Pardon to me, that touchdown had something that was kind of rooted in that group seeing the future.
00:29:39And what I mean by that is, they had a plan.
00:29:42Let's find a way to score right here before the half.
00:29:44And now to give us momentum going into the second half.
00:29:47Give us that cushion that we're looking for.
00:29:49They got that accomplished, scoring right before the half ended.
00:29:52Patterson now for the extra point.
00:29:59It's good, and it is now 21-7.
00:30:03Five plays there on that drive.
00:30:06And the end result, a Detroit touchdown.
00:30:09What the hell?
00:30:09It's good, and it's good.
00:30:10It's good, and it is good.
00:30:10So let's keep moving.
00:30:12All right.
00:30:13Here are the Lions now as they line up and kick this one away.
00:30:43And he'll go down as this drive will start at the 25-yard line.
00:30:53But a bear is going to take over now late in this first half.
00:30:56Well, not much time remains here in this first half.
00:30:59We'll see if they can get something out of this drive, at least a field goal.
00:31:02They can certainly use it down by two scores.
00:31:13On first down, it's Fields.
00:31:20Over the middle, that's caught by Claypool.
00:31:24Now the Bears are going to use the second of their timeout as the clock will stop with 35 seconds to go in quarter number two.
00:31:31A good passing down here.
00:31:44They send three receivers to the right of the formation on second down.
00:31:50To throw his Fields.
00:31:52And that's going to be incomplete.
00:31:58That's a good closing speed there defensively because that looked open for a minute.
00:32:03But that's great work with the ball in the air.
00:32:05Never gave up.
00:32:07Converged on his man and broke the play up.
00:32:12An incomplete pass on second down leads us to third and inches.
00:32:17Fields now to throw.
00:32:19And that is incomplete.
00:32:23This defense has certainly played well so far in this game.
00:32:26And the coverage has been tight on just about every throw.
00:32:30Forced a few here so far in this game.
00:32:32And now it brings up fourth down.
00:32:35Now here's Trenton Gill on to punt.
00:32:37It's a 40-yard punt, six yards on the return.
00:32:51And control of the football switching hands with very little time remaining until the half.
00:32:57And the Lions going to go back on offense one final time in this first half.
00:33:01And with a 21-7 lead already in their hip pocket, probably not a time to get too creative or inventive here.
00:33:07We'll see.
00:33:1119 seconds showing to play in the half as they come up here first and ten.
00:33:18They'll indeed try to run it out as they start on the ground.
00:33:22And he'll just push his way forward for a few as the clock will run.
00:33:26Give him three on first down.
00:33:28It'll set up a second and seven.
00:33:31So we have come to halftime in what's already a two-touchdown game.
00:33:43As we send you down to Orlando where Jonathan Coachman has our EA Sports halftime report.
00:33:49Coach.
00:33:50All right, Brandon.
00:33:50Thanks very much.
00:33:51Welcome, everyone, to our brand-new studios here in downtown Orlando.
00:33:56And the EA Sports halftime reports.
00:33:58In that first half, it was David Montgomery who proved to be tough to stop.
00:34:04He wound up finding the end zone on a touchdown run to help give his guys the advantage here at the break.
00:34:09All right, coach.
00:34:13And we welcome everyone back for quarter number three.
00:34:42The lake effect snow set to continue for the second half of action
00:34:58as we are back underway.
00:35:04And they will regular down a couple yards shy of the 30.
00:35:09The Lions getting set to go on offense to start the third.
00:35:13Charles, for them, pretty good first half on the ground.
00:35:16They had some success running the ball in quarters one and two,
00:35:19and they've got the lead.
00:35:20Now a chance to expand upon that lead here with their first drive in the third quarter.
00:35:25Yeah, believe it or not, you and I have noticed that this great game of football
00:35:28has shifted towards pass first, run second.
00:35:32So for me, it's really nice to see some of these teams keeping the ground game
00:35:35as a big component of their offense, and it's working pretty well for them now.
00:35:38And let's face it, they can continue to do damage with it.
00:35:41And in addition, it sets up the pass game really well for them, too.
00:35:46Up past the 30, second down coming up.
00:35:49I feel like I could see what he was thinking on that carry.
00:35:52Wanted to follow that big tackle through the hole.
00:35:54Ended up only getting four yards on the carry.
00:35:57I think he had designs on that one being bigger.
00:35:59Second and six.
00:36:05Now gone.
00:36:08St. Brown making the catch on the out round.
00:36:11And he'll go out near midfield at the 49.
00:36:16Two catches in the first half.
00:36:17Now he's got a third here, and it's good for a first.
00:36:20And now we get into the psychology of the whole thing,
00:36:23because a lot of teams with a two-score lead in the third quarter,
00:36:26they almost become defensive with their offense, just playing not to lose.
00:36:30I think with this team, you've got to figure at this point,
00:36:33this is a great spot for them to go into attack mode,
00:36:36really try to put the hammer down, and finish this one off.
00:36:39They'll try the middle with Montgomery.
00:36:48And he's got it across midfield and into Bear territory.
00:36:52Two yards on the pick up there.
00:36:54It'll be second and eight.
00:36:55Oh, that's a real nice job there by the defensive front.
00:36:58They just engaged and held their ground.
00:37:01But how about the guy who made the play?
00:37:03We often talk about whether they take a good first step or not.
00:37:06Many times you just don't take any step.
00:37:08Just get your feet moving, get your body going,
00:37:10and then once he made the read, he was able to make the play.
00:37:15They try to throw on second down, but this one is incomplete.
00:37:19We're playing in simple.
00:37:20That's the second time today that he's dropped a pass.
00:37:23And that one, I think, maybe even a little easier
00:37:25than the earlier one that he dropped, surprising.
00:37:27Was this game announced as a night game prior to,
00:37:30and maybe his rhythm is just off, he's got thrown off?
00:37:32He's going to have to wake up, enjoy the sunshine, and go play.
00:37:38Throwing on third.
00:37:39Goff.
00:37:41And he'll go down.
00:37:43The Bears get there for the sack.
00:37:46The defense rising to the challenge
00:37:48and setting it back on the sack.
00:37:51To me, the defense is a little gassed
00:37:53near the end of the first half,
00:37:54but they've come out of the locker room
00:37:55with a little extra spring in their step.
00:37:57I wonder what they did at halftime
00:37:59to get them so motivated.
00:38:00I don't know, but that sack looked good.
00:38:01Now let's see if they can build on the momentum of that play.
00:38:10Here comes the Lions punter now
00:38:12as he's on here to punt it away.
00:38:20And he'll get credit for putting them inside the 20
00:38:23as the fair catch is made right at about the 19-yard line.
00:38:26It'll be a 39-yard punt, no return.
00:38:30And out will come the offense as they take over.
00:38:43Fields and the Bears now with a first and 10
00:38:46at their own 19-yard line.
00:38:48Let's keep it up!
00:38:50Off the play fake, he'll look to throw.
00:38:54And it's knocked away and incomplete.
00:38:58And those two just have been in sync thus far.
00:39:01They've done a nice job against him,
00:39:02but still, with his talent,
00:39:04you would expect them to have more completions
00:39:06to him in this game.
00:39:10So now second and 10
00:39:12after the incompletion on first down.
00:39:14A give left side here for Herbert.
00:39:21And they're able to get this one across the 35.
00:39:2616 yards is the pickup there
00:39:28and a first down for Chicago.
00:39:30I'm okay with the call there.
00:39:31In fact, I actually like it.
00:39:32I know they're down a couple of scores.
00:39:34But the running game worked in that situation.
00:39:36I would continue to go in that direction.
00:39:39So from the 36 now, first and 10.
00:39:41Read option, here's Herbert.
00:39:46And taken down, just shy of the 40.
00:39:49End result of that one, a nice four-yard gain.
00:39:52So you can use that to set up your play-action game.
00:39:54Or you can come right back
00:39:55and continue to run the football
00:39:57because as an offensive play caller,
00:39:59you're on schedule and feeling pretty good
00:40:02about your next couple of calls.
00:40:03From the 39-yard line,
00:40:05here comes second down at six.
00:40:09Herbert wants more.
00:40:12And able to get a couple
00:40:13as he's across the 40 to the 41.
00:40:17He really hasn't been able to get on track
00:40:19running the football
00:40:19and averaging less than 40 yards a carry.
00:40:21Yeah, I think that they're going to enjoy the film session
00:40:24because all the defenders are filling their proper gaps
00:40:26at just about every play.
00:40:28And you know what they always say for a defensive coach,
00:40:30when I click off this film,
00:40:32I better see 11 jerseys in the picture
00:40:34going after the ball carrier.
00:40:35Out of the gun, Fields.
00:40:39And they're going to get this to about the 44-yard line.
00:40:42First down for the Bears, a gain of 15.
00:40:45I don't care how many times we see it.
00:40:47I still get a kick out of watching quarterbacks
00:40:49and receivers do the pass trick in pregame warm-up.
00:40:52But I always remember that when we go to practices,
00:40:55we see that after practices as well.
00:40:57They really tune it up, don't they?
00:40:58They tune it up.
00:40:59They know why they do it for these situations.
00:41:02First down.
00:41:02And they build that trust,
00:41:03and that's why they're able to find him
00:41:05in this type of a situation.
00:41:09And they'll let the quarterback keep it here
00:41:11on first and 10.
00:41:12Fights through, and now a crease.
00:41:14And they're able to get this one past the 30,
00:41:17down to the 25.
00:41:19Another big game at that time.
00:41:20This one goes for 19 yards.
00:41:22Well, partner, for a few years there,
00:41:24we thought this read option play
00:41:25was going to take over the whole NFL.
00:41:27It seemed like everyone was using it.
00:41:29But it has been scaled back considerably.
00:41:31in the last few seasons,
00:41:33mainly because people are worried
00:41:34about their quarterbacks getting hit.
00:41:36But when you call it at the right time
00:41:37and you use it properly,
00:41:39you see the type of games you can get.
00:41:41A nice chunk of yardage there by the quarterback.
00:41:43And now a throw on first down there,
00:41:45but it's incomplete.
00:41:46At this point in the game,
00:41:48in the situation they're in, partner,
00:41:49these incompletions that we're seeing,
00:41:51they need to turn into positive snaps,
00:41:53and soon.
00:41:55Glad you're with us from Soldier Field in Chicago.
00:41:58Third quarter here, second and 10.
00:42:01On play action, Fields.
00:42:07Throwing quickly there,
00:42:09Bond hits incomplete.
00:42:11Well, it looked like a march to the end zone
00:42:12instead of momentary roadblock
00:42:14with that incompletion.
00:42:16No need to panic.
00:42:17They just got to come up with a high percentage play call
00:42:19and see if they can get their offense back on track.
00:42:21This offense was on the move.
00:42:24Now two straight incompletions.
00:42:26Have them looking at third and 10.
00:42:28A shotgun snap, Fields.
00:42:37And they'll work it inside the 15-yard line
00:42:40before it's all set and done.
00:42:42Fields, he only has the good mobility.
00:42:45He flashes it there as he's famous for the first down.
00:42:47There he goes, and for good reason.
00:42:50Running with it has paid dividends earlier in this game
00:42:52and earlier on this drive.
00:42:54And until they prove they can stop him,
00:42:56I don't think he's going to be shy about continuing to run for first downs
00:42:59instead of airing it out.
00:43:00On first and 10, it's Herbert.
00:43:03And effective running here.
00:43:05He'll take it down inside the 10.
00:43:0844 yards rushing for him now to this point.
00:43:11Not too many offenses want to turn down long drives,
00:43:14but when you're down what they are,
00:43:15they've got to pay it off with some points.
00:43:19Ball on the 8.
00:43:20It's second and 4.
00:43:22Go all the way.
00:43:23Go all the way.
00:43:25Go all the way.
00:43:26Pick him off.
00:43:27Now it's Fields off the bootleg.
00:43:31And he works his way past the line of scrimmage
00:43:34and then slides to a hole.
00:43:36They'll wind up with positive yardage.
00:43:37It's a gain of 3.
00:43:39But now it's third down.
00:43:41Kudos for the defense from me on that one
00:43:43because they were prepared the whole way
00:43:45for him to try to escape and hit them for more yardage running it.
00:43:48I like the way they stayed zeroed in on it
00:43:50and kept him contained when he pulled the ball down.
00:43:53I think he was fortunate to get what he did on that run.
00:43:56Polluting the pressure right.
00:43:57And he is in.
00:44:01Touchdown, Chicago.
00:44:04Justin Fields.
00:44:06A 5-yard touchdown run.
00:44:08And the Bears have cut it back within a score.
00:44:11Hey, you're down on the scoreboard.
00:44:14But now your offense is in close.
00:44:16And this is where, as a quarterback, you say,
00:44:18I've got to make a play here.
00:44:20It doesn't matter whether it's a pinpoint throw
00:44:22or a scramble like this one.
00:44:24He takes matters into his own hands
00:44:26and delivers a touchdown run.
00:44:32Santos with the extra point.
00:44:34And they're back within a touchdown at 21-14.
00:44:37After the touchdown,
00:45:03here's the punter, Trenton Gill, to kick it away.
00:45:05And he'll be tackled just shy of the 25.
00:45:15And Detroit back in possession of the football.
00:45:19Pretty important third-quarter drive for it.
00:45:21And momentum has sort of shifted the other direction
00:45:24after that last touchdown
00:45:25as they nurse this small lead.
00:45:28Man, I just love being in this stadium.
00:45:36So much history, tradition,
00:45:38so many great teams and games.
00:45:40And we're seeing a pretty good one right now.
00:45:42Hotly contested in the third quarter.
00:45:45Now he's going to swing this one out to his running back.
00:45:48So just three yards on the completion there.
00:45:50And it's second down.
00:45:52They'd love to just strike back with a touchdown right here.
00:45:54And if it's a long play, so be it.
00:45:56But the main goal, get a couple of first downs.
00:45:59Run some plays.
00:46:00Run some clock.
00:46:01Allow their defense to get a chance to catch their breath.
00:46:03Settle down.
00:46:04And relax a little bit after they just gave up the score.
00:46:10On second down, here's Goff.
00:46:14Montgomery, another targeted catch.
00:46:16Give him a gain of five on the completion.
00:46:19And that's going to bring up third and two.
00:46:21I know it was a gain.
00:46:23But you have to sense probably a little bit of disappointment there.
00:46:26Because when it's out there in open space,
00:46:29I think they expect to get more out of a play, don't you?
00:46:31Especially when you're getting it to your guy out of the backfield.
00:46:33You're expecting him to be able to create something,
00:46:35be a little more shifty.
00:46:36Yeah, no doubt about it.
00:46:37Good open field tackling held into an okay game.
00:46:40Work in the middle of the field.
00:46:42And he's got a man complete.
00:46:43And he is going to have a Lions first down
00:46:46as they're able to get the third down conversion.
00:46:49They brought in a heavy set on third down.
00:46:51And that usually means running play.
00:46:53But we have seen them throw out of that formation.
00:46:55And sure enough, they snuck the tight end out on that one.
00:46:58Wound up hitting him for a first down.
00:47:00And as they come to the line,
00:47:10they will not be able to get off another play
00:47:12as time has run out on this third quarter.
00:47:16We'll return with more after this.
00:47:18You're watching the NFL on EA Sports.
00:47:22Back now at Soldier Field.
00:47:25On first down, it's gone.
00:47:27It's the Lions holding on to the football.
00:47:30And they also have the lead
00:47:31as we start quarter at number four.
00:47:35And it'll wind up getting just a yard.
00:47:36And it'll be second down.
00:47:38As a defense, you're more balanced
00:47:39when you're in zone coverage
00:47:40because you're able to keep your eyes on the quarterback
00:47:43and see the play develop in front of you.
00:47:46You're able to keep the quick pass in front of them
00:47:47and stop it right at the line of scrimmage.
00:47:52Again, Goff.
00:47:54He'll get this underneath to Montgomery.
00:47:58So give him two yards there on the completion.
00:48:01Third and seven now.
00:48:02Well, offensively, that's the mismatch that you want.
00:48:05You want to force a linebacker to try and cover your back
00:48:08out of the backfield, out in some open space.
00:48:11But linebackers nowadays, they run like backs.
00:48:14And they take a lot of pride in covering.
00:48:16What a nice play he made there in the open field.
00:48:19To throw is Goff.
00:48:23And he finds Montgomery complete.
00:48:25And he is going to lose yardage here.
00:48:28It's a lot of a loss on the play.
00:48:31And that's going to make it fourth down.
00:48:33They hate to surrender the football
00:48:34when you're nursing a slim lead,
00:48:35but they're going to have to punt it away.
00:48:37Trust that defense.
00:48:38It's the right play at this stage of the game as well.
00:48:41You don't need to press it here
00:48:42because you do have that little bit of a cushion
00:48:44and you count on your D to make it stand up.
00:48:46Here comes the Lions' putter now
00:48:50as he'll punt it away for the fourth time today.
00:48:59On the return is Pettis.
00:49:0335 yards that time on the punt.
00:49:05And it will be first to ten as they take over.
00:49:08The Bears' offense now gets set to head back onto the field.
00:49:12And it feels like the momentum has shifted.
00:49:14They scored, and their defense forces that last punt.
00:49:18And now a chance to tie the game on this possession.
00:49:28Fields and the Bears now with a first and ten.
00:49:30At their own 27.
00:49:35They'll come out throwing here to start the drive.
00:49:38He's got the connection to Moore.
00:49:40And he gets this one just shy of the 40.
00:49:43They'll mark him down at the 39.
00:49:46Nice way to start the drive.
00:49:47A gain of 12 and a first down.
00:49:49I like the design that we're seeing right there.
00:49:51This is what they need.
00:49:52Down by touchdown here in the fourth.
00:49:54They just need to keep working their way downfield.
00:49:57And when they see openings, take their shots.
00:49:59And off right side for Herbert.
00:50:06And he takes this up right near the 45-yard line.
00:50:10In on the tackle, Jalen Reeves-Maben.
00:50:13Nice satisfying run-up.
00:50:14First down for the offense.
00:50:15Picking up five, which means defensively,
00:50:18the thought process is entirely different.
00:50:20You don't want to panic.
00:50:21But at the same time, you're saying to each other,
00:50:23we've got to tighten this down.
00:50:24We can't give up gains like that.
00:50:26Second down, they go back to Herbert.
00:50:32Pushing forward for three up to the 48.
00:50:36Well, praise has to go to the guys on the offensive line
00:50:38because they've had a very nice, productive day
00:50:40running the football.
00:50:42How about that poor defensive line?
00:50:43They've been knocked around the entire game.
00:50:45And while they slowed them down on that run,
00:50:47can they continue to do so?
00:50:49Because they haven't had much success
00:50:50throughout this ball game.
00:50:51On third down, Herbert.
00:50:56Boy, no chances.
00:50:58He was met and dropped behind the line there.
00:51:01A loss of a yard, and it brings up four.
00:51:03This late in the game, Charles,
00:51:05I think you maybe seriously have to think about going for it.
00:51:07Especially where they are in terms of field position
00:51:10because this is almost like no man's land.
00:51:13Might hurt your punter because there might not be enough space.
00:51:15Maybe too far for your field goal kicker.
00:51:17But I'm like the old rule.
00:51:20Possession is nine-tenths of the law.
00:51:22Possession is nine-tenths of winning the game.
00:51:24Go for it.
00:51:25Get the first down.
00:51:26Close it out.
00:51:27And this punt will go out of bounds.
00:51:28I think it will be inside the 25, and it will.
00:51:31Right at the 24-yard line is where they'll spot it.
00:51:34So here come the Lions now.
00:51:37They're holding on right now to that slim advantage
00:51:39in a one-score game.
00:51:40And you hear a lot about two-minute offense
00:51:42and four-minute offense.
00:51:43Obviously, the four-minute offense applies here.
00:51:45How do they run that effectively?
00:51:46Yeah, really what the four-minute offense is
00:51:48is you're just trying to grind the clock.
00:51:50So you want consistent gains, steady gains.
00:51:53Doesn't have to be big plays,
00:51:55but it has to be plays that gets first downs
00:51:57and keeps the ball away from your opponent.
00:51:59But certainly throwing the ball is in the mix here.
00:52:02It certainly is.
00:52:03Just make sure that you're careful with it.
00:52:05And again, get those first downs
00:52:06and keep possession of the football.
00:52:09Throwing on first down,
00:52:10but this one winds up to be incomplained.
00:52:12Not sure what happened out there,
00:52:14but it looked like the timing was a little off on that throw.
00:52:16Hey, you know I'm a defender.
00:52:18So what am I going to say?
00:52:19Great defense.
00:52:20Darn right.
00:52:21They did something to disrupt that timing.
00:52:27On second down, Montgomery.
00:52:29And he'll be stopped up at the 26
00:52:31after a gain of only a couple.
00:52:34Well, that's a good start to this drive
00:52:35on the defensive side of the ball.
00:52:37Foreseen completion on first down.
00:52:39Then you're able to shut down the running play on second.
00:52:41Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised now.
00:52:42A little bit of pressure going at the quarterback
00:52:44in the expected passing situation.
00:52:47One of the bigger plays in the game thus far.
00:52:49The crowd getting into it
00:52:51as we come up on a big third down.
00:52:54Throwing there,
00:52:55but this pass is going to really be a big win.
00:52:58And critical play in this football game
00:53:00because if they pick up the first there,
00:53:01that clock keeps rolling.
00:53:03It has to be a little frustrating for them
00:53:04because they know
00:53:05that if they pick up the first down there
00:53:07and continue to eat away at the clock,
00:53:09really increases their chances of closing this one out.
00:53:12Now they're likely going to have to give the football up
00:53:14and sweat it out on the sideline.
00:53:16On fourth down,
00:53:17the punt team is on as this is sent away.
00:53:20And the fair catch is made
00:53:21at about the 27-yard line.
00:53:24So possession goes over here on the punt.
00:53:27The Bears offense ready to get going again.
00:53:30See if they can put this drive in the end zone, Charles,
00:53:32because it's been a little bit of a rough go at times.
00:53:35They've had to punt the football a ton in this ballgame
00:53:37because of stalled-out drives.
00:53:39So are you saying that you're kind of tired
00:53:41of seeing the punter run out there
00:53:43and do his thing during this game?
00:53:44Is that what you're trying to say?
00:53:45Well, I mean, I'm okay with it.
00:53:47I have a feeling that this offense,
00:53:49they don't want to see the punter again.
00:53:51And frankly,
00:53:52the punter doesn't want to run out there anymore himself.
00:53:55He'd love to see his offense put together a drive
00:53:57and give his leg a rest.
00:53:59That sack doesn't change their offensive game plan.
00:54:02And they always want to air it out
00:54:03and try and get the ball downfield quickly.
00:54:05They're going to have to block a little bit better, though,
00:54:07because the urgency and pressure just increased
00:54:10twice the distance now just to get a first down
00:54:12and one bus down to try and get it.
00:54:19And the job becomes twice as difficult now.
00:54:22After the sack, it's second and 20.
00:54:27Fields.
00:54:28And his throw here is incomplete.
00:54:33The partner guaranteed they approach this play
00:54:35with the idea of making up ground
00:54:37to make third down manageable.
00:54:39Unfortunately, with that incompletion,
00:54:41right back where they started on the last snap.
00:54:43Now they need a big third down play
00:54:45in order to pick up the yard as needed.
00:54:47Possibly a turning point.
00:54:49Big play coming.
00:54:51This is third and long.
00:54:52Back to throw.
00:54:53Fields.
00:54:54And the Lions pressure too strong.
00:54:58Down he goes.
00:55:01A lean McNeil drops him for a four-yard loss there,
00:55:04and that brings up fourth down.
00:55:07We've seen him escape similar situations earlier in the game
00:55:10and get away from pretty good yardage.
00:55:12At that time, they get him down.
00:55:14Yeah, they've had enough evidence that he can get away
00:55:16and run for good yardage, haven't they?
00:55:18That time, it felt like, okay, enough of this.
00:55:21Let's play it the right way and get him on the ground
00:55:24before he does any damage.
00:55:26And Detroit getting set to go now.
00:55:29Their defense got the stop, forced the punt,
00:55:32and now you really start to monitor the clock
00:55:34as they nurse this slim lead.
00:55:36Goff and this Lions offense set for a first and 10 at their 38.
00:55:54On play action, they'll throw.
00:55:58This would complete to his fullback out of the backfield
00:56:01and taking it across midfield and inside the 45.
00:56:06Well, how about this aggressive approach?
00:56:08Got the lead, fourth quarter, continuing to throw the football.
00:56:12Are you thinking about Super Bowl 51?
00:56:13Atlanta had the lead against New England,
00:56:15and they ended up giving it up.
00:56:16I was going to say don't say it, but you did say it.
00:56:19I did, didn't I?
00:56:20Yeah, anybody watching Atlanta, our apologies.
00:56:22Fourth quarter, down to the final two minutes,
00:56:28and we've got a one-score game.
00:56:32So the Lions in possession of the football
00:56:34as we welcome you back.
00:56:36They've got a first and 10 as they look
00:56:38to try and finish this one off.
00:56:40Five points of contact necessary at this stage
00:56:43as they'll run on first down.
00:56:45So fresh out of the two-minute warning,
00:56:47and here's another timeout taken with 1.55 remaining.
00:56:58So they come up on second down,
00:57:06and they can get another run like we just saw.
00:57:08Would likely put an end to this thing.
00:57:14Now a fake on the jet sweep,
00:57:16and they'll instead run up the middle.
00:57:18And he's brought down at the 34.
00:57:20Call it a gain of four.
00:57:22Now the Bears going to use the second of their timeouts.
00:57:25That'll leave them with just one remaining
00:57:27in this fourth quarter of play.
00:57:45Goff.
00:57:47Oh, now he lost the football.
00:57:49And this is picked up.
00:57:50And now off to the races, down to the right side.
00:57:55He's got room to roam.
00:57:57And can you believe this?
00:58:00A big mistake leads to a defensive touchdown.
00:58:04And they'll pull away from tying this thing up.
00:58:09So they were down by a touchdown,
00:58:10probably just hoping the defense could hold them,
00:58:12maybe force the punt.
00:58:13Instead, they force the turnover
00:58:15and take it into the house.
00:58:17Well, the plan was perfect.
00:58:18That's exactly what they wanted.
00:58:19Instead, they got a lot more than that.
00:58:22Big time capitalization
00:58:23by taking the ball away
00:58:25and putting it in the end zone.
00:58:26And now before the ball changes hands,
00:58:39they're going to take a look at this
00:58:40just to make sure that they have it right.
00:58:45And the question,
00:58:47was the knee in fact down
00:58:48before this ball comes loose?
00:58:50And is the video convincing enough to overturn it?
00:58:53A lot of factors here.
00:58:54Remember, you also need clear possession
00:58:55of football afterwards.
00:58:57This is a tough one to overturn.
00:58:59Now the Bears will use their third
00:59:01and final timeout.
00:59:03And they'll be disappointed
00:59:04to have to burn one there
00:59:05after giving up the first down.
00:59:07And they take a knee.
00:59:28Second and 11.
00:59:53Up the middle.
00:59:54It's Montgomery.
00:59:55I like it.
00:59:56I like the call.
00:59:57Still an opportunity to run the football
00:59:58and chew up a little more time off the clock.
01:00:06Goff with a kneel down here,
01:00:21and that should put a conclusion to this one.
01:00:23Yeah, it's fun to kneel down
01:00:26in front of your home crowd,
01:00:27but when you go on the road,
01:00:28that band of brothers attitude,
01:00:30right, just us against the world
01:00:32and get it done,
01:00:33how happy are they?
01:00:35I remember a coach at a previous stop
01:00:36telling me,
01:00:37you get a win on the road,
01:00:38doesn't matter the opponent,
01:00:39and get out of there like you stole something.
01:00:41And they did in this one.
01:00:44And the kick is good.
01:00:46And so you wonder how this one might be remembered
01:00:48the next time these two teams meet.
01:00:50But until then, this game's over.
01:00:53So this one's over.
01:00:55It's a win for the Detroit Lions.
01:00:57And despite the cold, despite the snow,
01:01:00this one was fun to watch.
01:01:01And I want to thank you for bringing two things,
01:01:03the space heater and the hot chocolate.
01:01:06Those were a big help for us here in the booth.
01:01:08Yeah, just so you know in the future,
01:01:10get your own space heater.
01:01:11Okay, I'm an only child I don't share very often.
01:01:14But this had to bring out like the 12-year-old in us,
01:01:16didn't it?
01:01:17I mean, to be able to watch this.
01:01:18And let's face it, when you were that age,
01:01:20you didn't come inside until mom screamed,
01:01:23get inside now, young man.
01:01:24Because you wanted to be out there just having a good time.
01:01:27And actually, you almost forgot just how cold it was.
01:01:29I'm sure these guys didn't,
01:01:31but they ended up playing just like those 12-year-olds
01:01:33and getting it done.
01:01:35Thanks for tuning in, everybody.
01:01:36Alongside Charles Davis, we thank our entire crew.
01:01:40I'm Brandon Gordon.
01:01:41This is the NFL on EA Sports.
