00:34is like hey you want to write a song for this michelle pfeiffer christmas amazon movie i was
00:39like dang like you're asking me like that sounded like i don't know it just sounded like you need
00:44to find someone a little more professional like no no no you've got it was i was my ego was like who
00:52yeah but then of course it was like the whole process of trying to you know write the song
00:57pressure but it i'm so happy with how the song turned out it's such a fun song it's a uptempo
01:03and can't wait for everyone to hear it and hopefully be part of everyone's holidays you
01:07know i'd love the christmas album for me was like my bucket list like dream and you can do it and not
01:13like it cannot stick or you can just get lost in the shuffle because there's just so much out there
01:17especially the history of like you know you're competing with all these amazing artists from the past the
01:22future or not the future i guess i am the future i'm just kidding i'm just joking but um yeah it's
01:28it was it was a really fun project and then now i get to kind of i don't know be part of it more
01:33which i love you're coming for that crown that christmas crown okay because i mean all of the
01:38songs are so good i mean you've got the two new songs uh that are on the deluxe version of your
01:43your christmas album which is only available on amazon so what is it that that keeps bringing you
01:49back to doing christmas music well like i said i wasn't even planning on it i just got this call
01:53and so last summer they sent me the link and so i'm like sitting in oklahoma like 100 degrees asking
01:59my kids hey you want to watch this christmas movie like we're not watching a christmas movie right now
02:03with you and so that was just the that was just the call back like i said sometimes things just come
02:08out of nowhere and you just it's just one of those things where here we are again and i just feel so
02:12grateful because every time i get asked to be part of anything these days it just you it's hard
02:18for me to explain it because people can't see from my perspective but you're always like super grateful
02:23but the the longer it goes the more you realize you're at the end of something you have to be you
02:28know what i mean but then you get this like life again and you're like so the gratitude just gets
02:32deeper you know what i mean and you just get more like aware of like how blessed and how incredibly
02:38um extraordinary it's been and so yeah i just sitting here in that thought right now going
02:43yeah because i mean when you're younger you know you don't you think you have like so much time and
02:48you don't really have that perspective and then you go through life and you have these experiences and
02:52you know you're like pinch me yeah pinch me it is true me i'm sitting here talking to you
02:58but even like christmas comes around like so quickly like i they were like oh yeah we're gonna have
03:03you do a spin from your you know spin into christmas from think i'm not thanksgiving we
03:07haven't even done it yet like we're like we're already like skipping thanksgiving but like from
03:11doing halloween you know i'm saying and i i feel like i just put up my halloween decorations and now
03:16i'm taking them down for like it's just so quick and everything like that but um but that's why you
03:22need to try to be in the moment and i'm trying my best just trying my best yeah i mean we're talking
03:26about christmas decorations when is it too early to put up christmas decorations um i kind of like it
03:32it depends like for us we were talking about how i live in oklahoma now half the time half the time
03:36here and depending on if we're there for the holidays or not so like i love to do like the
03:42fall stuff like sometimes blake will go out and we'll like get stuff from nature and like do a
03:47fall design around the door like we're such nerds like it's so much fun and we have like these little
03:51like you know traditions now that we do well we didn't get to do it this year because we were here
03:55um so anyway sometimes if we're going there that means that holiday will kind of overlap so we'll have
04:01like a thanksgiving door and then christmas on the inside it's thanksgiving because we didn't
04:06have time to change it out so it kind of overlaps but i think that um i think i think after halloween
04:12it's fair game right but it takes so long to decorate yeah right so why not just enjoy all of
04:18it and then you know what's really i've learned is at the end you're just ready you're like get this
04:23out of my house like i don't want to see a snow globe ever again break the snow globe no no no
04:30just kidding just kidding oh but talk about christmas traditions are you still doing the
04:35timpano or you do you have new oh my gosh i love you you are so deep um i i had i had some thoughts
04:42and i would like to know what the listeners think you know do you think i should continue the tradition
04:47of the timpano dome or do you think it's time to move on to something new i mean a tradition's a
04:52tradition right like the idea is that you make a tradition so i was thinking this year i had
04:56thoughts but i was gonna like do a family text vote and see what they thought because you know
05:01i'm the one cooking they might all be like if they if i say hey should we switch it up they might be
05:05like oh thank god like you know what are you boys into yeah they i think they look forward to anything
05:11traditional like okay this halloween we were we usually do like a little halloween party since
05:16covid we started doing it because you couldn't trick or treat you know what i mean right and it's
05:20small but they still it's what they know and i was like yeah we're not going to do that this year
05:25and they were just like what like i ruined i ruined everything and so it sounds like the
05:30timpano is still on the table i think it should be it's just like one of those things it's like
05:34it's like christmas it's it's too much of everything in one dish and so just one more before the the big
05:41diet happens yeah before the new year you know just don't count at christmas so oh what fun that
05:47is uh the movie that your new single is off of your new christmas single um do we get to see a
05:53little gwen cameo in the movie you know i don't think so i feel like they filmed it before i got on
06:00onto the project um i and also but it's weird when they sent it to me they already had like a lot of
06:06my music in the whole thing anyways it was really weird like the guy in charge of finding like he
06:12found me to do it or whatever he just said he was i think he said he was like heard me on the heard
06:18spider webs on the radio or i don't know what something one of those things he's like i should
06:21get gwen to do it and then he just like called me like and next thing you know we're like in the
06:25studio like doing and it was really cool in studio too because we i can't remember exactly what
06:30time of year it was uh that we actually um ended up recording but like all the musicians came in
06:38and they were like setting up they're like like professional you know session players and they
06:43all had christmas stuff like set up around their gear and i was like oh my gosh that's so cute you
06:48guys went for like this whole effort and it's like not even close to christmas time and they're like oh
06:52no we have like five sessions after this we're gonna do they're all christmas so like everyone's kind
06:57of like gearing up for christmas at a certain time of the year and how early do you record it
07:01when was that do you guys know when that was when i was in the studio like i don't even know it was
07:05months ago it was yeah it was christmas in july yeah and it was kind of cool though that they were
07:10all like gearing up for their next session to go do christmas and that's just like normal for them
07:15yeah well i mean you've done a movie before will gwen stefani the actress ever make a comeback
07:20gosh i mean probably not i don't know i think you know it was fun doing tv that was something
07:26that i never expected to and i got that call what was that 10 years ago to do the voice and never
07:33really knew about it like it's so weird because my parents and my brother my sister-in-law they used
07:38to watch the show so they like knew who blake was before i knew who blake was right so it's just kind
07:43of weird that we end up married um were they tripped out by that they were it was like they felt like
07:48they knew him already okay do you know what i mean so they were like they had been watching him for
07:52years and it just it was so weird my mom would be like oh yeah i got the people magazine and he's
07:57like in it there's like a whole yeah i was like what like mom it's just weird chill but um yeah i
08:04don't i don't really i at this point in my life like i again it's like my favorite is when just
08:10something shows up at the doorstep and you're like okay i guess i guess i i'll do that like you
08:15know i did a record last year and that was super fun and it took i did it really on like it was more
08:22just super like an art project like some people might crochet like blankets or whatever or like
08:27you know whatever that you do in your past time and i was like i really want to make a record but
08:31i just did it over a slow period i didn't really put any like i did it just to do it because i love
08:37doing it you know i'm saying and that was there was something kind of refreshing about that with
08:40um doing it that way and um i kind of got the itch to do that because every time i go in the
08:46studio and write something new especially if it turns out like so good like i feel like snow the
08:51globe is so catchy and like anyone that hears us singing it along you know what i mean so it's like
08:55it gives you that itch again you're like because it never gets old like yeah pleasing people like
09:01giving them that music and you know it's it's hard to not want to keep doing it you know yeah i mean
09:06your career your music career i mean you have a bunch of other stuff too but like let's just talk
09:11specifically about your music because you've had so many hits solo stuff with no doubt stuff do you
09:16feel like there is a song that didn't get its flowers that it deserves that should have been bigger
09:21wow that's there's so many of them for me because it what's different from my perspective is they're
09:27like they're all my children you know i mean like i can understand why certain ones did it and like when
09:32you're making them you kind of go whoa that one has something that other one doesn't or you know
09:37but you never know you just never know but you fall in love with each one because they're part of like
09:43for me they're my life like they're me expressing that moment in my life and um they're like i feel
09:49like especially like even like my last record like i would love that everyone would listen to like
09:52like love it how i loved it you know but it's like you don't get that choice you just put it out there
09:57and then people get to decide what they want and what they get to listen to and also like return
10:02to saturn for example that record was you have to imagine doing tragic kingdom after nine years of
10:08being in no doubt never thinking anyone's going to hear never even writing music and then all of a
10:13sudden writing this whole album like don't even know how to write a song and i write this whole record
10:16about the breakup it sells 50 million copies like instantly and then i come home from this two and a
10:23half year tour where i i had still lived to my parents orange county like yeah because i i was
10:28going to college and i just was living there and the band was in the band house like five minutes so
10:32it made sense that yeah and i was you know working what was i working at the broadway doing makeup at
10:38one point and then at certain point we were getting enough gigs that i guess i didn't have a job or i was
10:43going i don't even remember like i just remember i was taking art classes and we did this concert at school
10:50at cal state fullerton and like so many people showed up they're like you guys are never playing
10:54here again like the grass was torn apart like people were asking me for autographs in class like
10:59it was so overnight in this weird it was so weird and then then i wanted to paint the cover of the
11:05tragic kingdom because i was taking this like six hour painting class i was like getting so into my art
11:10like i wasn't even that good but like i thought i was getting good i didn't know what i was going to do
11:14with my life you know i thought i would do something in art and then they were like you're leaving on
11:20tour like we did the just a girl video we shot it and we went to the airport and i never came home
11:24for like two and a half years like all of my art was still at cal state fullerton my my car had like
11:31i was so adhd and like the way i kept my car i had this honda prelude and i just left it like all of
11:38my books like my backpack all the art in the back and my sister-in-law crashed my car and like
11:43everything was out in the streets like all of my art like so yeah it happened kind of overnight
11:48when it happened and um just you just never know what's going to happen next it's just bizarre you
11:54know but i love i love you know certain songs for what they they've done not just for me but for
12:00people like a song like don't speak that you know it's just a pure song that didn't even make sense
12:07like to no doubt really because it was so different from everything we were doing this ballady
12:12it was rewritten like from a different song like it and it just has so much so much i guess truth in
12:20it that it just transcends languages and you know going around the world and still yeah now it's still
12:25love it i think that's just great that's crazy i i think it's one of those songs that no matter
12:29where you hear it takes you back to a certain moment in your life and you stay in that moment you
12:33know and uh when you perform that now how does that feel well it's so crazy because i don't know if
12:39you saw that dualipa asked me to come up on stage and when she said to do that she we were trying to
12:45do something last year last summer but i was in italy and i couldn't like i was on family vacation i
12:51was like i can't like we couldn't work it out and i was like so honored for her to ask me i think
12:55she's doing glastonbury or something crazy like and then this came up and i was like yeah i'm home
13:00like i'll do it you know and she's like i want to do don't speak i was like what like don't be a
13:05hollaback girl like you know whatever like i was like you know what sweet skate like i and it was
13:10just she knew like it was like such the perfect choice and then honestly like i got up on stage
13:16and we did that together and she's just she's she's a superhero i mean she is a wonder woman she's so
13:21beautiful it's she's disgustingly you're disgustingly beautiful like the because it's not
13:27just the outside and it's like she's just so smart and cool and beautiful on the inside and
13:32um it was crazy because at that point when i said yes i didn't know we were doing the sphere
13:37right right so right it was like we were announcing the sphere then like three days later and we had
13:42at that time when i said i was going to do that had no idea i was doing don't speak you know at the
13:47forums like it was like this really when everything kind of aligns and it's like wow like this is
13:52supposed to be happening about obviously because there's no way you could plan that you know what i
13:56mean right right right i mean that's so cool isn't that that's awesome what a great story
14:01um running by the way i think is one of my favorite i love that song and i was you headlined
14:07uh music festival in san diego and i was out there and i was having the best time i was telling my
14:13girlfriend i was like oh my god i love this song to every single song you were doing and somebody
14:16had a sign up that said can you please do running um it's for my friend who had passed away and it was
14:22and you did it i remember that sign up kind of and i don't remember trust me i don't remember
14:28anything but i do kind of remember that and like that song i remember because you know every time
14:33you try to write a song it's like you're for me like i'm desperate like i just want it so bad and
14:39i really feel like it's like this channel that i have with because it's a gift like i didn't know i
14:44could do it and all of a sudden i'm doing it like i'm flying like i didn't know i could fly like you
14:48know what i mean and but you're like is it gonna last like am i gonna just drop down and crash like
14:53because you just don't it i don't have control over it like it really yeah and that was such a
14:59really cool time of songwriting because we were so free like the band had gone through return to
15:04saturn which was like us trying so hard because we had just come off tour and we were just like
15:09finding that like who are we you know like um and especially like me as a songwriter like i was like
15:16how do i do this like i don't know how i did it before you know what i mean yeah yeah i gotta get
15:20better i gotta get good at this and then on running everybody was like just this free spirit
15:25we were going to clubs like we were we didn't have kids like we were just it was like we were
15:30like listening to dance hall and like partying and yeah it was like anything goes and it was just such
15:35a cool spirit in in the the life of no doubt and um i remember sitting with tony he had this little
15:40casio piano that from his childhood like and he just goes do do do do do do yeah go away that's how we
15:48wrote that song oh i got chills thinking about it i love you tony being able to do music is such a
15:52blessing like it's such an outlet it's so therapeutic so i don't i know that i'm talking
15:58to whoever i'm talking to right now that if you just play guitar and you just sit there and you
16:02come home from work and you play guitar what a release that is it doesn't matter that anyone
16:06hears it you know i'm saying and that's that's like how doing most of the songs are it's like
16:10at the end of the day it's not about sharing it it's about being able to be part of music and when
16:16you the fact that i got to share it and continue to get to do it at it's i can't even tell you how
16:22incredible it is it is such an amazing rush and um addiction and well that's why you added uh six
16:30more shows to the sphere yeah i guess so yeah i mean the sphere has been something that we were
16:35like flirting with for a while and then it just came out of nowhere again it was one of those like
16:40there's a space open you guys want to like we didn't have time to fight about it think about it
16:45talk about it yeah we were just like you're in or you're out yeah and we were like damn we better
16:50we better be in because we're time it's all about time right right so um you know the backstreet boys
16:57they have their sphere residency they told everybody to wear white what is no doubt spans like what's
17:03the assignment i want to let you what do you think i mean i would go like classic uh gwen white tank
17:09with some jeans cute combat boots cute um cute belt right red lip classic that i didn't even red
17:16lip has got to be mandatory right i'm gonna say like you're not getting in if you don't wear
17:21a red lip and then i was thinking i was thinking black and white is that too much of a bite off the
17:25backstreet boys no let's go checkered right like what about checkered checkered is cool too
17:29yeah yeah checkered black and white yeah i love that yeah that's maybe some old school that's old
17:35school yeah it's so funny because i saw the backstreet boys um blake was doing this i loved
17:40saying this because i love bragging for him he was doing a party for his 30th number one radio
17:45do you know anyone that has that many i don't except for him so we were doing this party and the
17:50backstreet boys showed up to it and it was they they were just in the middle of like putting their show
17:55together so they were about to do the sphere and um they were so excited about it they were talking
18:00about like all the all the stuff that they had to do and uh they just looked so happy and meanwhile
18:05like who knew that like it would come out would blow out it was so successful i think they were doing
18:11more shows and then now we're copying them so have you had any advice from them about that i haven't
18:16gone to talk to them since like i just saw them that night and i'm sure that they're like oh shoot we
18:20just saw gwen and now they're doing it like and you know the fact that i had heard so much about
18:26it afterward because before i was thinking the first time when i did vegas um when i did the just
18:31a girl residency at planet hollywood which is it's literally the opposite kind of show like that show
18:36is like a theater tight like small like very interactive like just vegasy i don't know how to
18:43describe it um it was amazing i did 60 shows there it was like a lot yeah and but the reason i went
18:50out to go to vegas to go see the backstreet boys like to see like because i was like oh let's see
18:54what they're doing and it was like it was so cool they were playing at the theater and it was like
18:58everybody was so nostalgic and crying and like they had on their like i'm getting married to my
19:03banner and like you know it's just like i want to get some of that like that sounds that looks fun
19:08and so this is kind of the futuristic version of that like have you ever gone to because you're from
19:13san diego have you ever been on is it california adventure is it called where there's a screen
19:19and then you're like in the seats and you go through california yeah and that was like kind
19:25of like the first version of what the you know what i mean like it's like this interactive you
19:30feel a wind you smell like so i think it's going to be just such a cool way to feel nostalgic like
19:36you said like going back in time and reliving like i don't know all of us like those songs were
19:42our life like yeah you know together whoever listened to them it's like it was the backdrop of
19:48our lives and that's what i i hope that people feel that nostalgia and get to relive that feeling
19:53again that's what we're going to try to do no doubt spirit tickets the six new shows that were
