00:00What do we got here?
00:11Okay. Thank you, everybody. Good afternoon.
00:15And I'm proud to be joined by Senators Klobuchar,
00:19Merkley, and Gallego. So,
00:22yesterday, the House and Senate finally agreed to pass legislation
00:27to compel Donald Trump to release the Epstein files.
00:32A few hours after it passed the House, I came to the floor and got unanimous consent
00:38for the Senate to immediately pass that bill.
00:42I told Leader Thune that I was going to come to the floor and ask for a
00:47unanimous consent request that deemed the bill's passed,
00:51and at about five, before the first vote, and at about ten of five,
00:57he said he wasn't going to block it. That was good.
01:01But, enough, enough, enough
01:05with the Republican delay, dithering, and dilly-dally.
01:10This morning, the Senate finally received the Epstein bill.
01:14It's finally on its way to the President's desk.
01:17That's right. After months, months of waiting, months of Republican delay,
01:24so many failed attempts from Trump to hide the truth,
01:29the Epstein-File Transparency Act is headed to the desk.
01:33It's a huge step for justice,
01:36for the brave and unrelentingly courageous victims.
01:39They were amazing. It wouldn't have happened without them.
01:41We salute them.
01:42It's also a great day for Americans,
01:45because Americans wanted to see the truth.
01:50Let's be clear, though.
01:51This wouldn't have happened without Democrats,
01:53like the people with me today.
01:56But we are not done.
01:58No way.
02:00Our promise to the victims and to the American people is this.
02:04This will not and cannot be the end of the work.
02:09We'll keep the pressure up.
02:12Pressure for the President to sign.
02:15And then pressure on the DOJ to release the full, unredacted files.
02:22No hiding, no game-playing, no covering up.
02:26Pressure to make sure the documents are released in their entirety
02:29and not warped by a corrupt DOJ
02:32who's hell-bent on hiding the truth,
02:35bending the law, and protecting Trump.
02:38Trump's own Justice Department that told him
02:41he was in the files.
02:44Remember this.
02:46We know he's in there.
02:47He knows he's in them.
02:49What the heck is he hiding
02:51and been hiding for so long?
02:53It's time for the truth.
02:54This bill is a command for the President
02:57to be fully transparent, come fully clean,
03:00and provide full honesty to the American people,
03:03even if he doesn't want to.
03:05And just like we did with this vote,
03:08and for months on end,
03:10Democrats will fight for full transparency,
03:13nothing less.
03:14Senator Klobuchar.
03:17Thank you very much, Leader Schumer.
03:21Courtney Wilde, 14 years old,
03:23when she was sexually abused by Epstein.
03:27Danielle Benski, 17 years old,
03:31when Epstein sexually abused her.
03:33Her mom had a brain tumor,
03:35and he told her that he could help her mom,
03:39but only if she abided by his demands,
03:41including recruiting other girls.
03:43He told her,
03:44I can use it to help you,
03:46or I can make it really difficult for your mother.
03:50As she said recently,
03:52it's a call to action.
03:53We're standing up for so many victims of sexual assault.
03:58As a former prosecutor,
03:59I can tell you that's what this is about.
04:01It is also about trust.
04:03When Donald Trump and the Republicans
04:04promised the American people,
04:07time and time again,
04:08whether it was about bringing down costs,
04:10not true.
04:11Whether it was about making changes
04:14that help people, not true.
04:15But whether it was about releasing these Epstein files,
04:19now we'll find out the truth.
04:22Donald Trump knew that there was overwhelming numbers of votes
04:25coming in against him,
04:27and at that moment,
04:28he made the decision that he would say
04:30that he wanted the vote to go through.
04:32At that moment,
04:33when Senator Schumer made the decision to come forward,
04:36there was no one who would stand up and say,
04:38nope, we shouldn't have them released.
04:40And I thank Senator Schumer for doing this.
04:42The House discharge petition materialized
04:45because there were the votes to override his veto.
04:50So now is the moment of truth.
04:52One, he has to sign it.
04:53But two, and most importantly,
04:55when we look at what the Attorney General of the United States,
04:58who is running a Justice Department,
04:59that literally when Donald Trump orders them
05:02by truth social or in person to do something,
05:05they do it.
05:06Drop charges, they'll do it.
05:08Pardon their friends, they'll do it.
05:09It is literally a snap of their fingers.
05:11Make sure that you charge a Federal Reserve governor
05:14or the Attorney General of the State of New York
05:17or the former FBI director.
05:19We're there. We'll do it.
05:20That's what's been going on.
05:22So right now, we're facing a moment.
05:24Because of these faux investigations
05:26that she is now claiming are reopening,
05:29now we're going to find out,
05:31are they really going to release the files or not?
05:33And we are ready to stand up for victims
05:36like Danielle and so many others in this country.
05:41The Epstein files have always been about
05:48full accountability for the perpetrators
05:51and justice for the victims.
05:56And Donald Trump, when he campaigned,
05:58he said, I'm going to release these files.
06:00It became increasingly clear
06:02that that wasn't going to be in the case.
06:04So in July, 25 Democrats introduced the Epstein files bill.
06:11Not one Republican would co-sponsor it.
06:13Four months ago, then two months ago,
06:17Leader Schumer introduced that bill
06:20as an amendment on the Defense Authorization Act.
06:24And 51 Republicans tabled it.
06:28And every Democrat said, no,
06:31let's debate it and let's pass it.
06:34That was just two months ago.
06:36And then here we were yesterday.
06:39Yesterday evening,
06:40we called for all 100 senators to join
06:45in the vision of equal justice under law.
06:48And they did.
06:50And that's a great stride forward.
06:53But it is not the finish line.
06:55Because we know
06:57that Trump
06:59is not going to release those files.
07:01We are going to press him like hell.
07:04But everything we know
07:06about Donald Trump
07:07is he will obscure
07:09and delay.
07:10And there's a second set of files
07:13in the Treasury Department.
07:15$1.5 billion
07:17in suspicious activity reports.
07:20Senator Wyden
07:21and his finance team
07:23led an investigation
07:25with some bipartisan support.
07:27Those files provide
07:29huge information
07:30that will complement the information
07:32from the Department of Justice.
07:35Now, what happened
07:36yesterday evening
07:37was a really
07:39huge tribute
07:41to grassroots Americans
07:43from the far right,
07:44from the middle,
07:45from the left,
07:46all saying
07:46we believe
07:47that powerful men
07:49abusing and raping
07:52teenage girls
07:53should be held accountable.
07:55It's a vision
07:56throughout the political spectrum.
07:59And it was certainly
08:00a huge stride forward
08:01for the victims
08:02who so courageously
08:04stood up
08:05and shared their stories.
08:07But let's keep working
08:10toward the finish line
08:11when there will be
08:12actual
08:13accountability
08:15for the perpetrators
08:16and full justice
08:18for the victims.
08:20Senator Gallego.
08:23Well,
08:24today
08:25we've won the battle
08:26for justice.
08:27We've won the battle
08:27for these poor women
08:29that were victimized
08:30repeatedly
08:31both
08:31by these awful
08:33elite men
08:33as well as
08:35the Trump administration
08:36by trying to cover up
08:37every step of the way
08:38accountability.
08:39But it's just a battle.
08:40There is still war
08:41that needs to go on.
08:43We should not be
08:43in any doubt
08:44that this president
08:44is going to take
08:45every opportunity
08:46along with his allies,
08:47along with
08:48Attorney General
08:48Pan Bondi
08:49to slow down,
08:51to cover up,
08:52to confuse,
08:53because at the end of the day
08:54the truth will come out
08:55and it will hurt
08:56this administration.
08:58So I just encourage
08:59everyone that was involved
09:00and was involved
09:00in the fight
09:01from day one
09:01to make sure
09:02that we do not
09:03fall for the same traps
09:04that he's going to continue
09:05to put down.
09:06These women deserve justice.
09:08These women deserve
09:09to be treated
09:10like any other U.S. citizen
09:11and just because
09:12it was elite men
09:13from New York City
09:14or from Mar-a-Lago
09:15or from wherever
09:16in the world,
09:17they deserve to be brought
09:18to trial
09:19and to justice
09:20just as much
09:21as anyone else.
09:23The president needs
09:23to show
09:24that he is for us
09:25and not for them
09:27and stopped
09:28trying to stop
09:28a real open investigation
09:30and a real understanding
09:31of what happened
09:32with the Epstein files.
09:34Okay, questions?
09:36Mr. Schumer?
09:37Yes.
09:38What's your reaction
09:39to this proposal
09:40from Health Committee
09:41Chairman Bill Cassidy
09:42to set up HSA accounts
09:43to help people
09:44afford the insurance plans
09:46on the Obamacare marketplace?
09:48Could that be
09:49a potential common ground?
09:50Is that...
09:50Look, we insist
09:51on that the ACA tax credits
09:54have to be renewed
09:55and extended, period.
09:57If Cassidy's proposal,
09:59as I understand,
10:00it replaces them,
10:02looks like it's privatizing,
10:04health insurance,
10:06and it looks like
10:08it's really problematic
10:09and particularly problematic
10:10to do very quickly.
10:13Yes?
10:14Mr. Schumer,
10:15Republicans have said
10:16that Democrats
10:17have been too singularly focused
10:18on President Trump's rule
10:19in the Epstein files.
10:21What would you say
10:22to that criticism,
10:23and are you equally concerned
10:24about the names
10:25of Democrats
10:25or people that donated
10:27to Democratic clauses
10:28that could pop up?
10:29We think every name
10:30should come out,
10:30everything, everything.
10:32There should be no cover-up.
10:34Yes, not...
10:34No, this late...
10:35Yes, you haven't called on you.
10:37...about the Russian sanctions bill.
10:39Are you hopeful
10:40that it will finally get a vote
10:42this month now
10:42that Trump said
10:43who's okay with it?
10:45And if it does become law,
10:47what do you think
10:48should be the focus?
10:49Do you think there should be
10:50100% tariffs
10:51on Turkish goods,
10:52Chinese goods,
10:54Hungarian goods?
10:56What would be the most effective...
10:57Look, the bottom line is
10:59I think there are 87 co-sponsors
11:01or sponsors,
11:01including Leader Thune
11:03and myself.
11:03We've wanted to move the bill
11:05for a long time.
11:06Hopefully it can move.
11:08Putin has to be told
11:09in every way
11:10that he cannot be
11:11just a bully
11:12and overrun Ukraine.
11:14Okay?
11:15No, you, gentlemen.
11:16Yeah.
11:16Leader, you were given
11:17the federal force decision
11:19in Texas yesterday
11:20to strike down
11:21their gerrymanded masks.
11:22Are you boosted
11:23by Democrats' chances
11:24nationally going into 2026?
11:26Look, I'm boosted
11:27by Democrats' chances
11:28nationally to begin with.
11:29Why?
11:30Because the American people
11:31are on our side.
11:32The issue of health care
11:33has been a dramatic cleavage
11:35between Democrats
11:36fighting to prevent
11:38these premiums
11:39from going up
11:40and Republicans
11:40standing in the way.
11:42Even,
11:43we've seen this
11:44over and over again.
11:46The American people
11:47know we're on their side.
11:48They know the Republicans
11:49are opposing them.
11:51And that's going to serve us
11:53very well in 2026.
