The government has announced the rollout of 500 more free school breakfast clubs in deprived areas - a move they say could save parents up to £450 a year. 00:00There's lots of different things we can do to alleviate child poverty. Breakfast clubs is a good example.
00:04We also made the decision a few months ago to massively expand eligibility for free school meals.
00:11That, when it comes into effect next year, is going to lift 100,000 children out of poverty.
00:18So we obviously want to do more on this. It's really important.
00:22And in my area of work, which is children's social care, high rates of child poverty mean that we actually spend more money on public services
00:29to make up for that. So myself, my boss, Bridget Philipson, and the whole government are totally committed
00:35to bringing down child poverty as quickly as we can.
