Former mayor Alice Guo convicted of human trafficking, sentenced to life imprisonment
Former Bamban, Tarlac mayor Alice Guo was found guilty of qualified human trafficking and sentenced to reclusion perpetua or life imprisonment before a local court on Thursday.
Guo was convicted before the Pasig City Regional Trial Court Branch 167, along with other accused respondents, Rachelle Malonzo Carreon, Jaimielyn Cruz and Walter Wong Rong in a case tied to the illegal operations of a Pogo hub in her town.
It stemmed from last year’s raid by the Philippine National Police and the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission on the Zun Yuan Technology compound, which operated on property leased through Guo’s company.
"After over just one year, the court quickly gave us a favourable decision. Alice (Guo) was convicted along with seven other co-accused. Life imprisonment," state prosecutor Olivia Torrevillas says outside a regional courthouse in Manila.
