00:04The breakout Netflix hit, created by and starring Scottish comedian Richard Gad,
00:09inspired by a traumatic six-year-long stalking incident, has inspired a flurry of headlines.
00:14Because Gad pulled from personal experience to craft the true crime tale,
00:18many have attempted to track down the real people behind Baby Reindeer's characters.
00:23The series follows Donnie Dunn, a struggling comedian who encounters a lonely woman at the
00:27bar where he works. The chance encounter spirals as Martha is revealed to be a dangerous serial
00:32stalker. Gad took to Instagram to urge fans to stop the speculation on the real characters
00:37because innocent people were getting caught in the mess. That's not the point of our show.
00:42However, Piers Morgan isn't listening. Instead, teasing a world-exclusive interview on Wednesday,
00:47announcing that he's booked a woman named Fiona Harvey who claims to be Gad's stalker.
00:52The post went viral with some questioning the moral responsibility of engaging with someone
00:56who may be suffering from mental illness. Netflix responded to the hysteria during a UK
01:01parliament hearing focused on British film and television projects and featuring Netflix policy
01:06chief Benjamin King. He told lawmakers reasonable precautions were taken to conceal the identities
01:11of the real-life people who inspired the streaming hit. But he further noted,
01:15Ultimately, it's obviously very difficult to control what viewers do, particularly in a world
01:20where everything is amplified by social media. I personally wouldn't be comfortable with the world in
01:25which we decided it was better that Richard was silenced and not allowed to tell the story.
