00:00Coming up on today's wrestling news, John Cena is not going out on his own terms.
00:05Joe Hendry's WWE contract revealed.
00:08A wild change to the next NXT Premium Live event.
00:12And where is Chad Gable?
00:14I'm Adam Wilborn.
00:15And I'm Phil Chambers.
00:16And this is the after news, the non-Tony Khan news, basically.
00:20Non-Tony.
00:21If you want to know anything that happened on that Tony Khan Arrow Hawaii interview,
00:24it was out this morning, we'll link to it at the end of this video.
00:26But yeah, let's talk John Cena.
00:28He has only got two dates left on his WWE contract.
00:34Unless he fancies sticking around or is going to be appearing at the Hall of Fame,
00:38as we anticipate for next year.
00:40But yes, War Games, where he's going to have a rematch with Dirty Dom for his IC title.
00:47And then, of course, that last match, a Saturday night's main event in December
00:50with the winner of the last time is now tournament, Gunther.
00:54It hasn't happened yet, but we all anticipate that's what's going to happen, let's be honest.
00:57But is he going out on his own terms?
01:00No, not according to him on the Raw Recap podcast,
01:03not the excellent WhatCulture Wrestling podcast that we used to do back in the day on WhatCulture Extra.
01:08Remember that?
01:08I'm talking about the WWE one that they do.
01:12Cena said,
01:13I'm not going out on my own terms.
01:14If I could do this in infinity, I would do it.
01:17I made a promise to the fan base that when I started,
01:19that when I got a step slower, I got to walk away.
01:22And the sad thing is, fans see that and be like,
01:26but you've got so much left.
01:27Yes, I could probably squeeze out more matches, but at what cost?
01:32He didn't do a Scottish accent as far as I'm aware.
01:35I do harm to myself.
01:36I do harm to the product.
01:37And you as a fan who's allowed me the opportunity for over two decades to spend time with you,
01:41you'd be left feeling bad or sad.
01:43I want everyone to be happy, as I do, Phil Chambers.
01:47Yeah.
01:48And I think this is a very sort of dignified way of looking at your exit of wrestling
01:54because, yeah, at the end of the day, we've all been there and seen one of our favourites,
01:58a legend of the business, gone to see him and gone,
02:01oh, this isn't who I remember them to be.
02:04Yep.
02:05And look, at the end of the day, he's done it all, hasn't he?
02:07Especially now he's won the IC title.
02:09Exactly.
02:09I know the same way you see people long after they've left the business
02:12and you see them walking around and you're like,
02:14ooh, that life cannot be fun and trying to get out before that happens to you
02:18is probably a good thing.
02:19But it's that fine line with wrestling where they love it so much
02:24and it's like the drug that they just want to keep on having forever and ever and ever
02:27and that line of realising that I'm slowing down now,
02:30this is going to start hurting for a lot longer than it used to hurt and things.
02:35You can see why people not only move into the role that Triple H is now
02:39but any form of producer role or coach or whatever it might be
02:44because, yeah, like you say, you want to be associated with this business
02:49but if you can't, it's a very professional way of looking at it.
02:53It's like, if I can't do what I used to be able to do,
02:55then I'm taking the spot of someone else.
02:58And the fans aren't, I'm taking things away from the fans
03:02so why not leave them with this memory of mine
03:06and then I'll just suffer through not being able to do the thing that I love doing,
03:10which is a horrible thing to weigh up with.
03:12But it happens with all sports, I suppose.
03:13Yeah, and everything.
03:15Just anything you love, it goes away in the end.
03:17What a great start to the news video we've had.
03:19But it's also like not everybody gets to have a full year-long celebration of their career
03:24at the end of it either.
03:26So, I mean, swings and roundabouts, John, you're getting a pretty good send-off.
03:29But at the same time, I'm surprised, like you say,
03:31people go into backstage roles and producer roles and things.
03:34I'm surprised more on-screen wrestlers don't transition to being a manager or something like that.
03:38Yeah.
03:39You still get the pop, you still get the entrance.
03:40You still get to go out there.
03:41You still get to go out and talk, but you're not physically wrestling.
03:43Maybe that's a little bit too close to the action and what they love.
03:47Oh, I'll put the gear on one more time. Yeah, go on.
03:48But I'm surprised more people don't try and do it.
03:50Yeah.
03:51And, like, we always talk about, you know, Terry Funk and his retirements.
03:56But, like, you can see why.
03:58Like, you know, as a football fan, like, the amount of times you see people being like,
04:03oh, I think I still could give something.
04:05Because with anything like this, no other high compares to it,
04:11whether it be coming out or hitting your finish or getting the 1-2-3
04:14or scoring a goal in a football game, whatever it might be.
04:17Like, it's a horrible reality of it.
04:20Yeah.
04:20I'm just like, I shouldn't do this anymore, but I don't know what I'm going to do instead.
04:25And for this, by the way, just on this topic, because I saw a lot of people saying, like,
04:29oh, God, they've wasted what I've seen as last matches on a rematch with Dominic Mysterio at War Games.
04:35And, yes, there's an element of WWE having influence in this final run.
04:39Obviously, hence why Saturday Night's main event is in, what, Washington?
04:43Not Boston.
04:43Yep, not Boston.
04:44And the heel turn, I'm going to say to it.
04:45Yeah, well, exactly.
04:46But I think a lot of us will never know, really, how much John Cena said, I'd like to do this.
04:52Yeah.
04:53And it's his run at the end of the day.
04:54Like, I saw people moaning about, like, oh, the Raw match with Sheamus and Rey Mysterio.
05:01Maybe Cena just said he wanted to do that.
05:03They're his mates.
05:03They've been around with him as long as I can remember.
05:05So, I think sometimes people sort of just mouth off on social media without thinking about maybe who that might affect.
05:15Yeah, where this is going from.
05:16And it's, yeah, at the end of the day, if he wants to do the finger poke of doom at Saturday Night's main event, he's earned that.
05:22I mean, he needs to bring about the lightning fist.
05:24We've discussed this.
05:24We've said this.
05:25It has to happen.
05:26You can't go out without one more lightning fist.
05:28That's the only thing that would put down Gunther as well.
05:30It is, yeah.
05:30You should break it out on Dirty Dom, and then that'll, like, establish the power of it going into the Gunther match.
05:35Exactly.
05:36Gunther's like, my only strategy is to avoid the lightning fist.
05:40He powers up and then just chops the crap out of him.
05:43The best.
05:44Did Elias that put down?
05:45Yeah.
05:47What a world.
05:48Best move ever.
05:49Talked back to him by Jackie Chanakos.
05:51Of course.
05:52You can't deny the power of that.
05:54Gunther hires Chuck Norris to train him for his own nice main event.
05:58Speaking of someone who's not at the end of his career, who's at the beginning of his career, except he's not.
06:02He's been doing this for, like, 15 years or something.
06:04Joe Hendry.
06:05Oh, I know him.
06:06I know him.
06:07We've got some updates on him, obviously, signed with WWE now, which is very exciting.
06:12But Fightful Select have a little bit of an update.
06:14They were asked about sort of the status of Joe Hendry and when we can expect him to see him on WWE TV and where he will end up.
06:21And Show My Soft says, well, he's on a main roster level deal from what he understands.
06:27And by that, he means making above the main roster minimum.
06:30So, good for you, Joe Hendry.
06:31Yeah.
06:32He thinks with him coming in, we're likely to see a Ricky Saints or an Ethan Page move up and then Henry will be the guy that fills that spot on NXT first.
06:42But that's just a hunch, he says.
06:44He also thinks it could be like a Mr. Iguana situation where he just has sort of random one shots and it pops up occasionally on the main roster.
06:51I thought he was going to be that John Cena tournament.
06:53Yeah, me too.
06:54We all did, let's be honest.
06:56I think taking the space of a Ricky Saints or an Ethan Page makes a lot of sense.
07:00I think Ethan Page, personally, for me, should just go to the main roster and be with Chelsea Green because those two together are just absolutely wonderful.
07:08I don't know where Ricky Saints fits in on the main roster as much.
07:12He was always part of my vision plans until Seth Rollins injury happened.
07:17I thought, yeah, he's nailed on.
07:18Him or Ethan Page, to be perfectly honest.
07:20But, yeah, with Joe, we're incredibly biased because we work with him and we're friends with him and he's a lovely bloke and I wish him all the best in the world.
07:27Oh, yeah.
07:28But, yeah, as long as he's getting paid, I don't think he really cares right now because he's not going anywhere.
07:33He's living the goddamn dream right now.
07:34WWE, clearly, whether or not he sticks around in NXT or immediately gets moved up to Raw or SmackDown, it doesn't really matter.
07:40WWE clearly have a lot of faith in him and that's, you know, they, in theory, they could say, right, we had you when you were in TNA and we had the fun spot in the Rumble
07:48and then we had the fun spot at WrestleMania, thanks very much.
07:51But they clearly see a lot more than that.
07:53He's more than just an entrance and you and I can attest to that through the years that we got to work with him in WCPW.
07:58And, yeah, he's, I think he's going to be in the Rumble again next year, whether he's on NXT or not.
08:06And maybe that's a gateway to him being on the Raw after WrestleMania, which is a thing again now, thank God.
08:11Yeah.
08:13But, yeah, he's an incredibly hardworking guy, is Joe Hendry.
08:16This isn't like an overnight success by any stretch of the imagination.
08:19He has been working at this for years and years and years.
08:22We had him back in 2016 and he was going for longer than before that, but he has been busting his ass to get to where he is.
08:30Yeah, a lot of people don't realise quite how long he's been doing it.
08:33They sort of thought, oh, he's come up with the, I believe in Joe Hendry gimmick.
08:35This isn't a recent meme thing that has just taken off.
08:37Like, he's been working at this.
08:39And he's done, and like, the, you know, the stuff on the indies with the, like, entrance themes and stuff like that.
08:44Like, you don't have to do that.
08:46Yeah.
08:47Like, that was just all the other sort of window addressing around his work.
08:51Put in a lot of work to make himself stand out on the indies.
08:54Randomly thought, as I was getting rid of this morning, about the time when me and you had to break up a fight between him and Simon Miller.
08:59Yeah, that was a thing.
09:00Around the corner, do you remember?
09:01Yeah.
09:02Was it called Joe Hendry's Food Fight, I believe?
09:03Yeah.
09:04That was another, like, project he worked on.
09:06And I remember he came here to shoot that before it all went wrong, obviously.
09:10He came here to shoot that.
09:12And I sort of, you know, knew he was doing that and then doing other things and then obviously going to TNA and stuff like that.
09:19And I sort of asked him in passing, like, how has the journey down?
09:22What's your week been like?
09:24And I was tired hearing him describe it.
09:27He was, yeah, just a machine.
09:29And, like, if he wants to, I'm not saying you're going to do this, but if he wants to put his feet up and just maybe have a year in NXT,
09:34just doing that and occasionally, like you say, appearances, that's kind of justified.
09:41Yeah.
09:43Almost won the AAA Mixed Tag Team titles on NXT Gold Rush last night, but Ethan Page and Chelsea Green.
09:49More on that on the NXT Review Podcast.
09:52Yeah.
09:53I'm so happy for Joe.
09:54Yeah, absolutely.
09:55Love to see it.
09:56And big things are coming.
09:58He was one of the people who, when they had that TNA-WWE relationship, you sent to the WWE women.
10:03What have you got in this toy box then?
10:04Jordan Grace.
10:05This one.
10:05Yeah.
10:06This one.
10:06Joe Hendry, he seems quite popular.
10:08What have you left us?
10:10Like, that moment of mania, I just started laughing.
10:12It's incredible.
10:13It was so good.
10:14And Randy Orton looked like it at the time of his life as well.
10:16Like, Randy Orton laughing at the end of that is like, well, he's set now because Randy Orton's going to go back and go like, yeah, this guy's good to work with.
10:22Yeah, were you like me watching that with our relationship with Joe?
10:27Watching the entrance and then going, right, but if he just gets RKO'd in three seconds, he'll be a meme.
10:33Like, he'll be.
10:34Yeah.
10:35But then it just went, it was perfect.
10:36It was perfect.
10:37They filmed it so well as well.
10:39They, like, zoom with the turn and then the RKO.
10:41It was just perfect.
10:44And it, like, it doesn't hurt Joe at all.
10:46No!
10:46In any way, stretch of the imagination.
10:48It was a goddamn mania moment where the crowd popped for it.
10:53Which is, WWE are like, well, if a mania crowd is going to pop this, maybe there's something in this.
10:57Like, that's a...
10:58Probably made quite a lot of money from merch that weekend as well.
11:00Yes, definitely.
11:02I didn't see any of that, Joe.
11:04And where's my thanks for, I don't know, doing a backstage interview on WCW about 10 years ago.
11:08But he's going to do all right.
11:10He better do an interview with us next year at WrestleMania.
11:11I know, right?
11:12That's true.
11:13Otherwise I'll set Simon Miller on him again.
11:15Yeah, Joe.
11:16Yeah.
11:17But speaking of NXT.
11:18Hello.
11:19The best pay-per-view of the year or premium live event, whatever, it encompasses all things,
11:23is coming this way very soon.
11:26It's NXT deadline.
11:27It has, in my opinion, genuinely, and I'll do a bit of a gimmick.
11:30Genuinely?
11:31How genuine are your genuines?
11:33100% genuinely, the greatest new match type in all of wrestling.
11:37I'm talking about the Iron Survivor Challenge.
11:39Now, if you're aware about this, it's sort of the championship scramble, a little bit,
11:48combined with a sort of Iron Man match, combined with the King of the Mountain match.
11:54So, all the best matches, shoved into one, basically.
11:57Whoever gets the most pinfall of submissions in a set time period, including a bit of a
12:01penalty box, earns themselves a title shot at New Year's Eve.
12:06So, NXT deadline, Saturday, September, that's not the month, December.
12:13Saturday, September.
12:14I've missed it!
12:16Saturday, December 6th in San Antonio, Texas, is where NXT deadline is going to go down.
12:22And Ava, the general manager and Booker and Cooker of the Year, on last night's NXT Gold
12:28Rush, made the announcement.
12:29Previously, we've had multiple legends selecting people.
12:33There's usually five or six people in the Iron Survivor match, selecting people to be in
12:38it, and then they go on, and obviously that match happens, and they draw a sort of random
12:42order of people entering.
12:43Not this year.
12:44Big, big change.
12:45John Cena is going to be on Gold Rush next week to announce the competitors for the
12:51Men's and Women's Iron Survivor Challenge.
12:53Really excited about that.
12:54I think it has been, and it can be, yet again, a real breakout moment for wrestlers.
12:59We saw Oba Femi just dominate it previously, and yeah, like, it's one of my favorite things
13:07of the year.
13:07So I'm excited, and having John Cena attached to it, and you know, he's talked about wanting
13:11to bring the NXT talent in for the Saturday night's main event matches as well.
13:15So he's clearly got a lot of investment in the future of WWE, and yeah, I'm hoping someone
13:20like Miles Bourne gets in there, because I think he really deserves it.
13:23Yeah, well John Cena is definitely a fan of NXT, it seems, because like you say, the news
13:27that put a drop the other week about the Saturday night's main event thing, that it
13:30was his idea to bring the NXT talents in for it, because he was sort of down there sort
13:33of training and just sort of getting to know all of the new talents and things, and was
13:38like, you know what, I'm going to give you all a leg up.
13:41But the, I mean, the Saturday night's main event thing, that could be like a yearly
13:44show of just NXT versus main roster, like just one-off matches.
13:48I don't see why they couldn't do that more often.
13:53Me and Hampluck were talking about how if they were doing the traditional, not traditional,
13:58the one-off Survivor Series that they did, it was like, just so happened to be in 2019,
14:02Raw, SmackDown, and NXT, and NXT won the whole thing, the champions for each of those brands
14:07facing each other, it would have been quite a funny moment in terms of sticking it to Tony
14:14Khan, Tony Khan's fumbles and what have you, because you'd have Cody Rhodes versus CM Punk
14:21versus Ricky Saints, you'd have Stephanie Vaccare, who was, granted, only in AW for a cup of coffee,
14:29but still, Jade Cargill, and spoiler alert from last night's NXT, JC Jane, oh, and Ethan Page,
14:39and Blake Monroe would be involved as well. That would be really funny. So there's that as well.
14:44So there you go, watch NXT, the other AW over. I mean, I say every bloody week, it's the best,
14:50NXT, but very excited for NXT deadline, and I'm looking forward to seeing John Cena's announcement
14:54on that next week. Absolutely, but finally, finishing up with where the hell is Chad Gable?
14:59Where is he? Where is he? I mean, the American guy's been on TV plenty, but Chad Gable,
15:05not saying a long time. Yeah. So, this is according to a report from PW Insider, Elite,
15:11who say that Gable is expected to begin training again at the WWE Performance Center within the next
15:17week. It remains unclear whether he'll reappear immediately on programming or have like a phased
15:22comeback plan or what that'll be, but at least he'll be back training to sort of then figure out
15:28what his return is going to be. That's good news. I don't know why you mentioned El Grande Americana
15:33and all this, because obviously it's not him. Definitely not the same guy.
15:36But, yeah, huge fan of Chad Gable, and I do hope that, you know, what he was able to do
15:43in the last run that he had, whatever you think that might be, has reminded WWE that this man
15:50needs pushing. Yeah. Like, he needs titles when he comes back for me. So long as he's, you know,
15:55back to 100%, and obviously you don't want to rush him back or anything like that. Yeah.
15:58But he's a guy you can kind of drop into anything, and you know he's going to have a great match,
16:02but he's also got that sort of Kurt Angle ability to, you put any gimmick, it's shorty,
16:08G. Yeah. Almost any gimmick with him, and he'll nail it. He's brilliant.
16:13Yeah, and he puts his all into it as well. Like, he not just nails it. Like, he puts everything
16:17into whatever that gimmick is, no matter how dumb it may be. Sort of kind of why people
16:23thought it was a good idea to have him be Kurt Angle summer, then it was Jason Jordan,
16:26of course. Yeah. As we all know. So, yeah, I'm hoping for some big things for
16:30Gable when he comes back. There definitely needs to be some kind of title run, maybe like
16:34a legitimacy behind him, because they've not done that. You've got money in the bank.
16:37Yeah, yeah. That's not until September next year. There's plenty of time for whatever
16:40it may be, and to build him back up again. But, yeah, I'm ready, willing, and Gable.
16:46Yeah. We'll come back with a long hair. Maybe. He's such a dork, wasn't he? I mean, Maxine
16:52Dupree just won the Intercontinental title. Yeah, no, she didn't thank him. Oh, it's all
16:55AJ Lee, is it? What about the Master? Huh? But it might be one of those things where he's
17:00got a bit of time off, and it's like maybe a reset, and they think like, oh, what can we
17:03actually do with him coming back now? Because like, when you're in the system, and you're
17:06just in the things, you might get missed, but when you've got like, you've got this
17:09guy, he's coming back, let's find a plan for him, maybe he'll back to more.
17:12I'm sure he'll have loads of ideas. That's what wrestlers do, don't they?
17:15I've got this new idea. I'm going to become the champion, and then I'm going to beat
17:19everyone. It's the best idea you can have. Can't deny it, really.
17:23It's a great idea, Hardcore Harley. Great idea.
17:25Anyway, let's know your thoughts on that, and everything we've discussed in the comment
17:28section below. Don't forget to like, share, subscribe. If you want to find out all the news
17:32about that Tony Khan-Ariel Hawane interview, there's a link to it, right here. Not the interview,
17:36your thoughts on it, because it's bad. Bye!
