00:00Bear necessity.
00:01Given his popularity in production,
00:03Amazons must re-sign Alonzo.
00:05Oh my gosh, without a doubt.
00:07Does a bear take a dump in the woods?
00:09Who cares what this is going to cost?
00:11Steve Cohen, open up that checkbook, baby,
00:14and get it done.
00:15And please, without the drama of last off season,
00:18how come keeping homegrown talent is always a Mets problem?
00:23Not so much a Steve Cohen problem,
00:25but it's definitely a Mets problem.
00:27I think I'm with Don LaGreco on this one
00:29when he's questioning,
00:30when do we get to say once a Mets,
00:33always a Mets, only a Mets, again?
00:36Not Mantle, not DiMaggio, not Farrah, not Jeter,
00:40not Pettit, not Enduhar, not Torres, not Judge,
00:47not Byrd, Ed Cranepool.
00:51Somebody check this men's blood pressure after that one.
00:53And look, no disrespect and rest in peace to Ed Cranepool
00:56because this man gave the franchise 17 seasons.
00:59But what Don is trying to get at there is,
01:02that was back from 1962 to 1979.
01:06Since then, Seaver was traded to the Reds.
01:09And as for Doc and Darryl, well, you guys know,
01:11they went to the other side of town.
01:13Why have Mets fans had to share their all-time greats
01:17with other franchises?
01:18Now, is Pete Alonzo perfect?
01:20No.
01:21But here's a guy that through seven seasons
01:22gave you 264 home runs, 712 RBIs, and 951 hits.
01:29And that production is not taking a hit at all.
01:31He's coming off a season where he put up
01:33the fourth most home runs, the second most RBIs,
01:37and the most hits of his career.
01:38You cannot let a homegrown 38 home run
01:43and the 126 RBI fan favorite walk for nothing.
01:48And then you're gonna replace him with who?
01:49Or replace him with what?
01:51That type of production is hard to find
01:53on a consistent basis.
01:55Open up this checkbook and play ball, Uncle Stevie,
01:58or get the thank you Pete tribute video ready.
02:01He's a bare necessity.
02:03So we're gonna be covering the Pete Alonzo
02:05Mets contract negotiations all off season.
02:08So head on over to newyorkpost.com slash sports
02:11for all things Mets.
