US Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz praised rapper Nicki Minaj and presented her with a custom pink UN jacket after she publicly supported President Donald Trump’s claim that Christians are being persecuted in Nigeria. Minaj thanked Trump for “prioritizing this issue,” even as Nigerian officials and international experts rejected the allegations as unfounded.

00:00I knew the ambassador was a Barbz, by the way.
00:02That's right.
00:03We'd love for you to have that.
00:05And Harris, we have you and Nikki, if I can have you up here.
00:13I hope you guys are okay with this.
00:16But this is, we have this one for you.
00:22That's okay.
00:23One better.
00:25Ah, ha, ha.
00:26There we go.
00:28So you now have a whole amazing U.N. Barbz.
00:35Or now you're United Nation Barbz.
00:38Thank you both.
00:39Thank you so much for having me.
00:45When I tell you guys how honored I am, I don't think you understand.
00:49My pastor is here.
00:50I love you very much, pastor.
00:52But I just want to thank you guys for taking this seriously.
00:55And to give me a platform.
00:57I never, in my wildest dreams, saw myself here.
01:02But, you know, God has...
01:03When I was confirmed as ambassador, doing this with you was not necessarily on my feet.
01:08But, you know what, this is what the Lord does.
01:12The Lord brings people together to protect his flock and to further his word.
01:18And we're just honored.
01:21And we mean this, and I know the President believes this.
01:24This isn't about politics.
01:25This is about humanity.
01:27This is about doing what's right.
01:28And I'm just so proud.
01:29And then I have one more thing.
01:31Pastor, Cedars, come on up here.
01:33So I didn't realize that the pastor is a fellow Army veteran.
01:37And if everyone knows this tradition, this is one of my challenge coins.
01:42Please stand here with me.
01:43Wow.
01:44This is one of my challenge coins.
01:46I'm proud, as you said.
01:48We need to be proud.
01:49And as Alex said, I'm a follower of Christ.
01:52That's right.
01:53But I'm also an Episcopalian, which means I like a good drink.
01:57And so it's a bottle opener that you can use your hat.
02:02All right.
02:03There we go.
02:04Yeah.
02:08Thank you all for coming.
02:11And we're now, in case you didn't know, you know, every country gives a gift to the United Nations.
02:18And so we have the United States over there in the U.N. building.
02:22We have a moon rock, and we also have a Norman Rockwell collage that says,
02:30treat others as you would have them treat you.
02:33And the other key piece is that Trinidad, Tobago, has a set of amazing steel drums that they have on display in there.
02:45We pulled them out so that Nikki can play them for us.
02:48No, I'm just kidding.
02:48But anyway, we're going to go with you over and tour the U.N. headquarters,
02:55and we're so thrilled that you joined us today.
02:58Thank you, everyone.
02:59Thank you so much.
