President Donald Trump sparked strong reactions after offering enthusiastic praise for Saudi Arabia and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, calling the leader “fantastic” and crediting the kingdom with doing “incredible work on human rights and everything else.” The remarks come as global scrutiny of Riyadh’s record continues, particularly regarding past controversies and international concerns.

00:00Well, thank you very much, everybody.
00:02We have an extremely respected man in the Oval Office today,
00:08and a friend of mine for a long time, a very good friend of mine.
00:13I'm very proud of the job he's done.
00:15What he's done is incredible in terms of human rights and everything else.
00:19And he's the Crown Prince, the future king,
00:23and I just want to pay my greatest respect to your father,
00:28King, who is an amazing man.
00:30I met him early on.
00:32He greeted me at the airport at an age that was pretty high up there,
00:36and it was about 117 degrees,
00:38and he was standing on the red carpet as I came out of the plane.
00:41And he's amazing.
00:45And when I met his brilliant son, who was at the Oval Office,
00:49shortly thereafter, you came in representing the country,
00:52and I called the father.
00:54I said, this guy is fantastic.
00:56And I don't know if that helped you or hurt you,
00:59but obviously it couldn't have hurt too much,
01:00because here you are, right?
01:03But we had a great meeting,
01:04and the office has changed quite a bit,
01:07and we inherited a mess.
01:09You actually told me you thought the country was in big trouble.
01:13I'm not going to use the exact word that you used.
01:15I refuse to say that you thought our country was dead
01:18a year and a half, two years ago,
01:20but a country was in trouble,
01:22and now we have the hottest country in the world.
01:23You said that also, and we do.
01:26We have the United States is right now
01:28the hottest country in the world.
01:30And between the tariffs and the election,
01:33November 5th election,
01:35we've done things that nobody can believe.
01:39$21 trillion will be the amount invested in the United States
01:44or committed to invest in one year.
01:48So I'm here nine months,
01:49so we're up to almost $18 trillion.
01:52Biden, as an example,
01:54the Biden administration,
01:55if you call it that,
01:56it's not, to me,
01:56it was the Biden lack of administration.
02:00There were less than $1 trillion for four years.
02:04We're going to be $21 trillion for one year.
02:06I think that's hard to believe.
02:11The biggest in history was a certain country,
02:14$3 trillion.
02:15We're going to be $21 trillion.
02:17On top of that,
02:18prices are coming down.
02:19We inherited a mess with high prices.
02:22The worst inflation in the history of our country.
02:24We had inflation that was a single full four years,
02:28the worst inflation in the history of the United States.
02:31The gas prices through the roof,
02:33and that's after destroying our petroleum reserve,
02:37which was meant for wars and big emergencies,
02:40not to try and win an election.
02:43They opened up the reserve
02:44so that people get $3 less in gasoline,
02:48and it didn't work.
02:49They got about three cents less,
02:50because as big as those reserves are,
02:52they're peanuts when you're talking about that kind of traffic.
02:56And we're rebuilding the reserves.
02:59We're doing all of this, and we've done a job.
03:01We're also bringing down prices very substantially,
03:04and we've already brought them down very, very substantially.
03:06Gasoline is way down.
03:08I think you'll be seeing $2 gasoline,
03:11but we're now at $2.50, $2.45.
03:14Some are lower than that.
03:16It was $4.50, $5, $6, $3.50, $3.75,
03:20underbind all different numbers, but way high.
03:23And we have energy way down.
03:25But the biggest thing, to me,
03:27because I know what it means in jobs,
03:29is the fact that we're at over $17 trillion, Scott,
03:35and we expect to be around $20, $21 trillion in one year.
03:39And that's many times bigger than...
03:41In history, the highest number was $3 trillion.
03:45And we're going to be at $21 trillion.
03:47That means new plants, new AI, new auto plants.
03:50We have auto plants coming in from Canada, from Mexico, from Germany, from Japan.
03:56Toyota just agreed to invest $10 billion on new auto plants, all American workers.
04:03We've never been in a position like this.
04:06You can go back to the beginning.
04:08Our country has never been in a position like this.
04:11And it really is because of the fact that we use tariffs to bring all this money in.
04:17And you're going to see the results in a year when these plants start to open up.
04:20We have more plants under construction now than at any time in the history of our country.
04:26And these are big plants.
04:27These are the biggest plants anywhere in the world.
04:29And I want to thank you because you've agreed to invest $600 billion into the United States.
04:34And because it's my friend, he might make it a trillion, but I'm going to have to work on them.
04:40But it's $600.
04:41We can count on $600 billion, but that number could go up a little bit higher, yes.
04:47I don't know.
04:48We'll see.
04:49But we appreciate it very much.
04:51So Saudi is going to be investing at least $600 billion.
04:55And that means investments in plants, in companies, money on Wall Street.
05:01And what it really means for everybody that really counts as jobs, a lot of jobs.
05:07We have a lot of jobs.
05:08So I just want to thank you.
05:10We've been really good friends for a long period of time.
05:12We've always been on the same side of every issue.
05:15I think we've done a great job in wiping out the nuclear capacity of Iran.
05:22Nobody else could have done that.
05:23No other president would have done it.
05:26We had the pilots in the Oval Office right here.
05:28We were celebrating a very successful attack.
05:31So I had them in with that beautiful B-2 bomber that's over there.
05:35And they said, sir, for 22 years, we practiced this attack.
05:41Our predecessors, these were very young guys.
05:43So 22 years, they said our predecessors and us practiced the attack on Iran.
05:50But no president ever gave us the go-ahead.
05:54Three times a year, they went out and they practiced the attack.
05:58Nobody let us do it until you came along.
06:00And I let them do it because it was the right thing to do.
06:02You can't have a nuclear Iran.
06:03And so we put you in a very good position.
06:06But I just want to say it's an honor to be your friend.
06:08And it's an honor that you're here.
06:10And if you'd like to say a few words, but thank you very much.
