00:00books are the heart of culture and the memory of a country in Venezuela
00:21specifically in Guarenas Miranda state since the imprenta de la cultura place
00:26is established as a key engine for editorial sovereignty with 178 employees dedicated
00:32to the mission that the end of every book should be the start of another.
00:37Our correspondent Andrea Romero shows us more.
00:53Inaugurated in 2007 by Commander Hugo Chavez, the printing house serves as a foundation
00:59for turning Venezuelans into readers.
01:01Here, writers and more can make their book a reality.
01:05The production process begins with the manuscript.
01:08Once the digital text is approved, it comes to the print shop starting the design and
01:13the pre-press phase.
01:15Here, we handle all the setup and design work for the books we make for the community.
01:26Emails come in with files texts for us to layout and prepare for a specific plate and then send
01:33over to the machines for printing.
01:37After the layout and page imposition.
01:42Once everything's ready and checked, let's go to the photolithia department.
01:49This is a high-tech critical stage where the design is transferred to a photosensitive aluminum plate.
01:57After I put the plate here, it gets marked by laser on the drum.
02:09Then I move it down, pick it up here, and from there on to another machine to process it.
02:23It burns, cleans, and comes out rubbed through these rollers, and here's the finished plate.
02:32With the plate ready, it's time to print.
02:35Depending on the book's page count, two production lines activate.
02:39The manograph rotary prints over 300 pages, both sides and folds automatically.
02:45The flatbed press handles shorter runs and prints step by step.
02:56Once sheets are printed, they are organized for the final process where the composition
03:01requires precision.
03:04You match and align, making sure every sheet is in order so the book comes out right.
03:09No repeats, all normal.
03:12First sheet, second sheet.
03:14So everything lines up, and the machine keeps going, like this.
03:22For a perfect finish, the binder transforms a set of sheets into a complete ready-to-read book.
03:27It collates, glues the cover, and trims the edges for that clean professional cut.
03:33All automatic.
03:34Y finalmente refila los bordes para darle ese corte limpio y profesional.
03:45With production complete, you see just how capable this infrastructure really is.
03:51This year, for the International Book Fair, we produced over 85,000 copies just for that
03:56event.
03:57And as our President Nicolás Maduro and Minister of Culture Ernesto Villegas have guided, we
04:02are supporting the wider printing market as well.
04:05That's about 120,000 books produced so far this year.
04:08And we are working right now to meet the current needs of Venezuela graphic arts industry with
04:13our own strength.
04:15From digital design to final copy, making a book in Venezuela is a testament of dedication.
04:21If you have any questions, please refer to me at the last 10th episode of this media review.
