00:00Nicki Minaj had her big day at the United Nations, where she was addressing an issue she has taken up as her cause celeb, really.
00:09She has been on social media a lot talking about the reports of genocidal attacks on Christians in Nigeria.
00:19And she has supported President Trump when he said that we may have to even send troops to aid in what's going on in Nigeria.
00:29So she was invited by the U.S. ambassador to the U.N. to actually speak at the U.N. today.
00:37Here's what she had to say.
00:38Interestingly, she also addresses her fans who have been wondering why she's getting political.
00:47I must say I am very nervous.
00:50I would like to thank President Trump for prioritizing this issue and for his leadership on the global stage
00:58and calling for urgent action to defend Christians in Nigeria.
01:03Barbz, I know you're somewhere listening.
01:07I love you so very much.
01:09You have been the ultimate light in my life and career for so long.
01:20I appreciate you.
01:21And I want to make it very clear once again that this isn't about taking sides.
01:29This is about standing up in the face of injustice.
01:32So I got to say, I've been around a long time.
01:36I have never seen an address before the United Nations turned that way where what she's clearly saying is there are a lot of Barbz who are pissed off that she's supporting Donald Trump.
01:47And what she's saying is, hey, this is a righteous issue.
01:50And yet she did mention thanking Trump.
01:53So that was interesting that she, in a way, waved the red flag.
01:57By starting out by thanking President Trump for them.
01:59That's right.
02:00And then decided to address her fans, which is just something I've never seen at a United Nations speech.
02:08We should, I mean, we obviously cut that down.
02:11I don't want to make it seem like she didn't actually talk about the issue.
02:14Right.
02:14Because she did address that as well.
02:16But it is interesting that she is very, I'm not surprised that she's keenly aware of what her fans have been saying.
02:23She knows they're pissed off.
02:24Well, the Barbz are a political fan base.
02:26You know, they sway, you know, public opinions.
02:29Exactly.
02:29But they sway public opinion to no end and, you know, just to address them.
02:33I don't think she's trying to get them to move.
02:36I think she just wants to keep them.
02:39I think she wants to make sure that the Barbz.
02:41It's interesting that what we didn't hear her say, at least in that clip, and I know she spoke longer, but she didn't say, I'm asking for your support.
02:48Right.
02:49She's not asking them so much.
02:53For support for the issue, but keep supporting me because I love you.
02:57Right.
02:57That's kind of what she's saying.
02:58Yeah.
02:59Not bad.
03:00It's just never heard it before.
03:01But aren't rappers the best to be neutral?
03:03Can't they enforce the...
03:04No.
03:04There's no reason for them to be neutral.
03:07Hi, I'm Nicki from Nashville.
03:09This comment is very odd.
03:12Like you said, Harvey, not something you typically hear in front of the UN.
03:16It seems self-serving a little bit at the end of the day.
03:19I'm all for anyone with a platform using their voice to support issues that they care about and that they believe in.
03:26But turning it back on her fans, I'm sure there were people in the audience wondering who the heck the Barbz are.
03:33Who she was addressing.
03:35Right.
03:35There's a bunch of ambassadors listening.
03:37The translator's going, I don't have a word.
03:39I don't have the word for that.
03:41They're like, barbed wire?
03:42What are we talking about?
