00:00From 30 Rockefeller Plaza in New York, it's Late Night with Seth Meyers.
00:12Tonight, Jeff Goldblum, star of Broadway's O'Meary actress Jane Krakowski.
00:18An all-new closer look.
00:25And now, Seth Meyers.
00:27Good evening, everybody. I'm Seth Meyers.
00:30This is Late Night. We hope you're doing well.
00:32And now, if you don't mind, we're going to get to the news.
00:34President Trump spoke today at the McDonald's Impact Summit.
00:38But remember, that's just what they call his physical.
00:43When asked on Friday why he got an MRI,
00:46President Trump said that it was a standard part of his physical
00:49and added, quote,
00:49the doctor said it was the best result he has ever seen as a doctor.
00:54Sure. Sure.
00:56But who knows what he'll see on his second day of work.
01:00President Trump over the weekend traveled to his golf club in Palm Beach
01:04in what Fox News is calling the only news that happened last week.
01:10After working to suppress documents from the Jeffrey Epstein investigation,
01:14President Trump reversed course last night
01:16and called on Republicans to vote for the release of the Epstein files.
01:19It's a little suspicious, though,
01:21because his hands were just covered in black marker.
01:26Oh, these are good now. They're all good now.
01:30President Trump over the weekend announced that he's withdrawing
01:33his support and endorsement of Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene
01:37in a development that's so crazy, Marjorie Taylor Greene believes it.
01:41President Trump on Saturday tested out a new nickname for Georgia
01:47Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, Marjorie Taylor Brown,
01:50and said it was because, quote,
01:51green grass turns brown when it begins to rot.
01:55Which is as close as we're going to get to seeing those MRI results.
02:02Democratic Senator John Fetterman was hospitalized last week
02:06after he fell during an early morning walk.
02:08Fetterman is okay, but the sidewalk was total.
02:12That's right.
02:13Democratic Senator John Fetterman was hospitalized last week
02:16after he fell during an early morning walk
02:18and left with the fanciest outfit he's ever owned.
02:23U.S. airports were set today to resume normal operations
02:26following the government shutdown,
02:28and travelers are going to be so relieved
02:29to have their flights canceled for normal reasons.
02:34And finally, residents of Worcester, Ohio,
02:36have reported seeing a rare black squirrel
02:39with a white tail and white paws.
02:41That's right.
02:42Some people in Ohio saw a cat.
02:46That was a monologue, everybody.
02:50Move the gun, I tell you.
02:52Got a great show for you tonight.
02:54He's a multi-talented artist you love
02:55from iconic movies like Jurassic Park,
02:58The Fly, and Independence Day.
02:59He's back as the Wizard of Oz and Wicked for Good,
03:02which opens the theaters and IMAX Friday, November 21st.
03:06Jeff Goldblum is back on the show.
03:07There's no one like him.
03:09There's no one like him.
03:11And you know her from her work as a very funny Jenna Maroney
03:15on 30 Rock, as well as her starring roles
03:17on Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Ally McBeal.
03:20She's currently starring on Broadway
03:21as Mary Todd Lincoln in the fantastic O'Mary,
03:24which is playing at the Lyceum Theater
03:26here in New York City.
03:27Jane Krakowski is back, everybody.
03:30Very excited to see our guest.
03:32But before we get to all that,
03:34tensions are mounting within the MAGA movement
03:36after Donald Trump attacked two MAGA favorites
03:39for their push to release the Epstein files.
03:41But you know what? It worked.
03:42The media has now moved on from the Epstein story.
03:45The trove of Epstein emails.
03:47Disturbing new Epstein emails.
03:49Jeffrey Epstein emails.
03:50New Epstein emails.
03:51Epstein emails.
03:52Epstein emails.
03:53Epstein emails.
03:54Epstein emails.
03:55Explosive trove of Epstein emails.
03:57Oh, brother, you know what this means.
03:59Donald Trump has his own email scandal.
04:01Next, he's going to go full Hillary
04:02and start wearing the pantsuits.
04:06For more on this, it's time for A Closer Look.
04:12You know, in our increasingly isolated digital age
04:15where we spend more time scrolling apps
04:17than shaking hands,
04:18a true moment of genuine human connection can be rare,
04:20which is why I deeply appreciated
04:22this thoughtful piece of fan mail
04:24I got over the weekend.
04:25NBC's Seth Meyers is suffering from an incurable case
04:29of Trump derangement syndrome.
04:32Aside from everything else,
04:33Meyers has no talent,
04:34and NBC should fire him immediately.
04:37You guys!
04:38They said my name on TV!
04:41Not often.
04:44It's not often you hear the name Seth Meyers on TV
04:48before midnight.
04:48Now, as I've said before,
04:51I prefer to handle these situations
04:53the way you handle an angry driver
04:55who honks and flips you off on the highway.
04:56You just ignore them.
04:57You know, unless you're in New Jersey,
04:58then technically, that's a marriage proposal.
05:02I knew, Angelo!
05:03You stupid son of a bitch!
05:04I knew!
05:04I'm also aware that being attacked
05:07by the president this weekend
05:08doesn't make me special in any way, shape, or form.
05:10I was simply on the same list
05:12as Christopher Wray, James Comey,
05:13Indiana Republicans,
05:14Thomas Massey, Rand Paul,
05:15Marjorie Taylor Greene,
05:16and former President Joe Biden.
05:18In fact, the only person
05:19who Trump didn't seem to be mad at
05:20was Sean Connery,
05:22as he posted a 2008 article
05:23about Connery praising Trump's golf course
05:26with the words,
05:26Blast from the Past.
05:28And I think it's a bad sign
05:30when the most positive thing
05:31someone said about you this weekend
05:32was from an article 17 years old
05:34by a man who died five years ago.
05:36But who am I to say,
05:38to quote the late, great Sean Connery,
05:40you're the man now, dog.
05:41I want to clarify that I take no issue
05:44with the president voicing
05:45his displeasure with my show.
05:47That is his right,
05:48and on a lot of nights,
05:48he's got a point.
05:50But I would like to unpack this sentence
05:53from Trump's post about me.
05:55He was viewed last night
05:56in an uncontrollable rage.
06:00Not to repeat something
06:01I'm sure you've heard many times
06:02over the years
06:03from your English teachers,
06:04but what's with the passive voice,
06:06my man?
06:08I was viewed by who?
06:10Was it you who viewed me?
06:13And did you view me
06:14exhibiting an uncontrollable rage,
06:16or did viewing me send you
06:17into an uncontrollable rage?
06:19I'm only asking
06:20because I want to be helpful.
06:21He was viewed last night
06:23in an uncontrollable rage,
06:26said he.
06:27Sounds like something
06:32a dowager countess says
06:33in a Victorian murder mystery
06:36while she's staring out
06:37the drawing room windows.
06:39My nephew would never
06:40take a human lie.
06:43At the same time,
06:44he was viewed last night
06:46in an uncontrollable rage.
06:50Now, I will also admit
06:51to being confused
06:52as to what set Trump off
06:54this time.
06:54A few weeks ago,
06:55he posted his displeasure with me
06:57and was very specific
06:58that he was upset
06:59about how I talked endlessly
07:00about electric catapults
07:02on aircraft carriers.
07:04So, catapults set him off last time.
07:05What was it this time?
07:06Well, he posted on Saturday
07:07and referred to last night,
07:09which means it was probably
07:10something I said on Friday,
07:11but our Friday show was a repeat.
07:12Which repeat?
07:13The catapult show.
07:14So...
07:15So, it was the catapults again.
07:19And with respect, Mr. President,
07:21you can't get mad a second time
07:22for the same thing
07:23when it's in a repeat.
07:24That would be like Rachel
07:25getting mad at Ross
07:25for cheating on her
07:26every time someone
07:27watched that episode
07:28on streaming.
07:29And in his defense,
07:30he thought they were on a break.
07:31But when you accuse me
07:33of Trump derangement syndrome,
07:35I take that diagnosis seriously,
07:36you know,
07:36because you're clearly
07:37a medical expert,
07:38as evidenced by your description
07:40of your recent MRI.
07:41The doctor said it was the best result
07:52he has ever seen as a doctor,
07:54and the result was outstanding.
07:57Is it your phrase?
07:57You know, I have no idea
08:00what they analyzed,
08:02but whatever they analyzed,
08:03they analyzed it well.
08:05You know, when you get an MRI,
08:07they almost always tell you
08:08what they analyzed,
08:09and if you don't remember,
08:11then they definitely analyze your brain.
08:14You know that cognitive test
08:16Trump claims he aced?
08:17I guess the first question wasn't,
08:18why are you here?
08:19Although that's probably
08:21a follow-up Trump would prefer
08:23to get instead of the questions
08:24he got this weekend,
08:25which were mostly about
08:26his feud with Republicans
08:27over the Epstein files.
08:28The latest MAGA civil war
08:30has begun,
08:31and it is between Donald Trump
08:32and Marjorie Taylor Greene
08:34all over the Epstein saga.
08:36Trump shocked the political world
08:38last night when he officially
08:39un-endorsed the congresswoman
08:41who has been calling
08:42for the release
08:43of the Epstein files.
08:44Greene fired back
08:45at Trump's attacks on X,
08:47writing, quote,
08:47He's coming after me hard
08:49to make an example
08:50to scare all the other Republicans
08:52before next week's vote
08:53to release the Epstein files.
08:55Greene now says
08:56she's facing threats
08:57that are, in her words,
08:58being fueled and egged on
08:59by the most powerful man
09:01in the world.
09:02Greene says her life
09:03could be a danger
09:04because of the rhetoric.
09:06Her life is in danger?
09:08Who's that?
09:09Marjorie Taylor Greene, she says.
09:11Marjorie Trader Greene.
09:13I don't think her life
09:14is in danger.
09:15I don't think, frankly,
09:17I don't think anybody
09:17cares about her.
09:19You spent all weekend
09:20attacking her
09:21and now you're saying
09:21nobody cares about her?
09:23You sound like a jealous ex.
09:24Oh, Jessica's posting photos
09:26from Cancun
09:26with her new fiancée?
09:28I didn't even see those.
09:29Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.
09:32Second, I can't believe
09:33I'm saying this,
09:34but I finally have something
09:35in common with Marjorie Taylor Greene.
09:36You know, Trump's really
09:37bringing the country together.
09:39The only difference is,
09:39you know, she got a cool nickname.
09:41Marjorie Trader Greene
09:42is way cooler
09:43than Marble Mouth Meyers.
09:52To be fair,
09:53he had time to workshop
09:54his nickname for Greene.
09:56Before he came up
09:56with Marjorie Trader Greene,
09:58he posted,
09:58and this is real,
09:59Marjorie Taylor Brown,
10:01green grass turns brown
10:02when it begins to rot.
10:04And as a rule,
10:05a nickname isn't a banger
10:06when it needs
10:07a super long parenthetical
10:08to explain it.
10:10It's like if I posted,
10:11did another closer look
10:12about Donald J. Trump-a-shay.
10:14A trebuchet is a type of catapult,
10:16and Trump is obsessed with them.
10:18Also, the J in this case
10:20stands for,
10:20just stop talking
10:21about catapults already.
10:23Now, you might be surprised
10:25that the president
10:25is beefing with members
10:27of his own party,
10:27but it's because they
10:29spent years calling
10:30for the release
10:31of the very same Epstein files
10:33that Trump has since
10:34called a hoax.
10:35Seriously,
10:35we need to release
10:36the Epstein list.
10:37Who has Jeffrey Epstein's...
10:39Black Book?
10:40Black Book.
10:40FBI.
10:41That's under direct control
10:43of the director of the FBI.
10:45Would you declassify
10:46the Epstein files?
10:47Yeah.
10:48Yeah, I would.
10:49We have flight logs.
10:50We have information,
10:52names that will come out.
10:54Everything's going to
10:54come out to the public.
10:56The public has a right to know.
10:57Americans have a right to know.
10:59Why do they want to make
11:00this Jeffrey Epstein story
11:01go away so bad?
11:02That Jeffrey Epstein story
11:03is a big deal.
11:05Please do not let
11:06that story go.
11:08First of all,
11:08cool shirt dude.
11:09I'm sorry they didn't
11:10have it in your size.
11:11I didn't know
11:13the founding fathers
11:14even had merch.
11:15Personally,
11:16I'm a fan of the
11:17Ben Franklin beach blanket,
11:19but I also love
11:20the matching beer koozie
11:21that says,
11:22we the people
11:22are about to get
11:22faced.
11:25Second,
11:25that was Dan Bongino,
11:26who is now the deputy
11:27director of the FBI.
11:28And yet anyone
11:29who thought an FBI
11:30under his leadership
11:31would get to the bottom
11:32of the Epstein scandal
11:33has been disappointed.
11:34A new Justice Department
11:35memo reveals
11:36that the Justice Department
11:38has no evidence
11:39that convicted sex offender
11:41Jeffrey Epstein
11:42blackmailed powerful people
11:43or kept a client list
11:45or was murdered in prison.
11:48The memo,
11:49first reported by Axios,
11:50is a sharp turn
11:52from the Trump administration's
11:54insistence
11:55that there was much more
11:56to uncover.
11:56Investigators say
11:57they found no
11:58incriminating client list
11:59of Epstein's,
12:00no credible evidence
12:01that Epstein blackmailed
12:03prominent individuals,
12:04and no evidence
12:05that could predicate
12:05an investigation
12:06against uncharged
12:07third parties.
12:08What?
12:08You can't rile everybody up
12:10with a bunch of podcasts
12:11and then expect them
12:12to be happy with a memo?
12:14That's like if after
12:15The Rock yelled,
12:16can you smell what
12:16The Rock is cooking,
12:17you got a text
12:18that said,
12:19beets.
12:21So this weekend,
12:22Trump sought to quell
12:23the MAGA fuhrer
12:24by ordering an investigation,
12:25but only into Democrats,
12:27which even some Republicans
12:28fear could be another
12:29delay tactic.
12:30You know,
12:30the president's been saying
12:32this is a hoax.
12:33He's been saying that
12:33for months.
12:34Well, he's just now decided
12:36to investigate a hoax
12:38if it's a hoax.
12:39And I have another concern
12:40about these investigations
12:42that he's announced.
12:43If they have ongoing
12:44investigations in certain areas,
12:46those documents
12:47can't be released.
12:48So this might be
12:49a big smoke screen,
12:50these investigations,
12:52to open a bunch of them
12:53as a last ditch effort
12:55to prevent the release
12:56of the Epstein files.
12:57How dare you accuse
12:59the president
12:59of setting up a smoke screen?
13:00For one thing,
13:01I don't think he's nimble
13:02enough for that.
13:03If Trump threw down
13:04a smoke pellet,
13:05he wouldn't run away.
13:05He'd just stand there
13:06coughing until the smoke
13:07cleared.
13:11Oh, I was hoping
13:13you'd leave.
13:16So reporters asked Trump
13:17last night about
13:18Massey's statement.
13:19All Trump had to do
13:21was make clear
13:22that he is sincerely
13:23interested in getting
13:25to the truth.
13:25Representative Massey
13:26says he's concerned
13:27that the Epstein probe
13:28you were calling for
13:29could be a smoke screen
13:31to lock the release
13:33of more files.
13:34Is that the case?
13:35Well, I don't want
13:35to talk about it
13:36because fake news like you,
13:38you're a terrible reporter,
13:40and fake news like you,
13:41they just keep bringing
13:42that up to deflect
13:43from the tremendous success
13:45of the Trump administration.
13:47Nailed it.
13:48Everyone knows the least
13:51suspicious thing you can do
13:52when someone asks you
13:53about a scandal is to say,
13:55I don't want to talk
13:55about it,
13:56and then immediately
13:58insult them.
13:58Try that next time
13:59your spouse asks why
14:00you got home so late.
14:01I don't want to talk about it.
14:02Also, you're a cook.
14:07When I think of that,
14:09I'll put an end
14:09onto that.
14:10Nothing seems
14:13to be tamping down
14:14the story.
14:15Even when Trump did a 180
14:16and called the Republicans
14:17to vote for releasing
14:18the files,
14:19it raised more questions.
14:20A major flip-flop
14:21from President Trump
14:22has just supercharged
14:24the effort to make
14:25more Jeffrey Epstein
14:26files public.
14:27The president is now
14:28telling House Republicans
14:30to go ahead
14:31and vote for a discharge
14:33petition demanding
14:34the release of the files.
14:35This after he spent months
14:37opposing the measure.
14:38But the whole point
14:39of the House vote
14:40was to force you
14:41to release the files,
14:42which you can do
14:43on your own.
14:44So if you're in favor
14:45of releasing the files,
14:46then just do it.
14:47This new position
14:48makes even less sense.
14:49Okay, fine.
14:50I'm telling everyone
14:51to vote in favor of a bill
14:52forcing me to do something
14:53I can do on my own
14:54but won't.
14:54Thus requiring a vote
14:55to force me to do it,
14:56which I was against,
14:57but I'm happy.
14:58Oh,
14:59take it back, Wally.
15:02Classic Marble Mouth Meyers.
15:14Marble Moused it.
15:17You do have me pegged.
15:25Go to the end.
15:26We'll keep it.
15:28We're keeping all this.
15:29The president
15:38is trading barbs
15:39with members
15:40of his own party,
15:41including some
15:42who were,
15:43not too long ago,
15:44his closest allies.
15:45And in perhaps
15:45the greatest irony of all,
15:47Trump finds himself
15:48dealing with a controversy
15:49that's all about...
15:50Emails.
15:50This has been
15:51A Closer Look.
15:52We'll be right back
15:57with Jeff Goldblum.

16:26and Independence Day.
16:28He returns as
16:28The Wizard of Oz
16:29and the highly anticipated
16:31Wicked for Good,
16:32which opens in theaters
16:33and IMAX Friday,
16:34November 21st.
16:35Let's take a look.
16:36The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
16:39No one believed in you
16:41more than I did.
16:44But there's no going back.
16:46And we can't move forward
16:47not until everyone
16:48knows what I know.
16:49And once they know
16:50the truth...
16:50They're not going to
16:51believe it.
16:53How can you say that?
16:54I don't know,
16:54I'm just being straight
16:55with you.
16:56I could tell them
16:57that I've been
16:57lying to them
16:58until, um,
17:00forgive me,
17:01blew in the face,
17:02but wouldn't
17:03make any difference.
17:05They're never going
17:05to stop believing
17:06in me.
17:07You know why?
17:09Because they don't
17:10want to.
17:11Please welcome back
17:12to the show
17:12the one, the only,
17:13Jeff Goldblum!
17:14Hello!
17:15Hello!
17:15Hello!
17:15Hello!
17:16Hello, old friend!
17:18Hello!
17:18We'll see you next time.
17:20We'll see you next time.
17:42Hello. Hello, old friend. Hello.
17:44Hello, my old, old friend.
17:46As I learned long ago having you on the show,
17:48don't have a plan with Jeff Goldblum.
17:50So I got some pictures over here.
17:52Maybe I'll show them, but I also...
17:54The floor is yours, you know?
17:56Okay.
17:58Okay. Well, look at you.
18:00You're a vision in charcoal, I believe.
18:02Yeah, I try to keep it.
18:03Well, especially when you're coming, I feel like,
18:05you know, again, you're sartorial splendor.
18:07When did you become this fashion icon?
18:10When, when, when indeed.
18:13I don't know. I don't accept the premise of the question.
18:15Don't you, but...
18:17Don't you feel like in the last five years,
18:19people have been saying whether you, you know,
18:21accept the premise or not?
18:22Oh, people...
18:23Jeff Goldblum, man, I wish I could pull it off.
18:25That's what they say?
18:26Yeah.
18:27I don't know what they mean.
18:29Yeah, yeah, yeah.
18:30I think I know.
18:32Well, you know, thank you. Thank you.
18:34You're welcome.
18:35I have a stylist, Andrew Votero.
18:37He's backstage.
18:38Okay, great.
18:39Emily Goldblum is very instrumental in...
18:41Wonderful.
18:42Yeah, quite wonderful.
18:43Yeah, yeah, yeah.
18:44She has taste like nobody's business.
18:45But anyway, and then, you know, we get...
18:47Well, you also, you have to dress up,
18:48because you do, like, a high level of...
18:50You recently did a gig at the Pittsburgh airport.
18:56Is that funny, because it's high level?
18:57That's funny to me. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
18:58It's funny to me.
18:59Yes, it is. I did do it.
19:01They're opening a new airport.
19:03I made it to the top.
19:04I opened a new airport,
19:05but it was actually a very big honor.
19:07And they're doing a new...
19:08I'm from Pittsburgh.
19:09Yeah.
19:10You're a Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
19:11Yeah, yeah, yeah. My dad's from the Berg.
19:13And our band, the Mildred Sensor Orchestra,
19:17Yes Did It, and guess who was there?
19:19Cam Hayward.
19:20Cam Hayward, Joe Manganiello,
19:21his beautiful girlfriend, Hayward.
19:23Very beautiful.
19:24Cam Hayward.
19:25Cam Hayward, big smiling Cam Hayward.
19:26But this is...
19:27I joke, but this is a brand-new,
19:29beautiful architectural feat.
19:31I actually flew out of Pittsburgh this morning.
19:32It's the last day of the old airport.
19:34Tomorrow it opens.
19:35You've got beautiful architectural feet,
19:37if I may say.
19:38Feet?
19:42So you are...
19:43You're like Zelig or something.
19:45You were there the last...
19:46The last day, yeah.
19:48That's monumental.
19:49And you took your kids to their first Steelers game.
19:52I did. I took yesterday.
19:53That's pretty amazing.
19:54That's amazing.
19:55You, though, you took your boys
19:57to the 18-inning World Series game.
20:01I did.
20:02One of the greatest games of all time.
20:03It was so great.
20:04By the way, can I say something about Cam Hayward?
20:05Everybody wants you to.
20:06You're so...
20:07Oh, thank you.
20:08You're such an expert on things Pittsburgh,
20:10and he's a pal of yours.
20:11Yep, yep, he is.
20:12I know.
20:13I was starstruck when I met him.
20:15You know, he's...
20:16Yeah, you're a tall gentleman,
20:17but he fills the frame.
20:19He certainly does.
20:21So here's a trivia question.
20:23Yeah.
20:24Cam Hayward is related to Susan Hayward how?
20:29Susan Hayward?
20:30Yes, sir.
20:31Okay, um...
20:32Cam Hayward, Susan Hayward.
20:34Okay.
20:35Who is... Can I ask a question?
20:36Who is Susan Hayward?
20:39Are you seriously asking that?
20:41I am.
20:42And I bet... Make some noise if you know who Susan Hayward is.
20:45Okay.
20:46There's no shame in that. No shame in that.
20:48You know, I don't think I've ever seen, in fact,
20:50a big, big, you know, smarty pants than I am.
20:53I don't think I've ever seen a Susan Hayward movie.
20:55She won the Oscar for I Want to Live.
20:57I read today in the Wikipedia.
20:59Oh, so this isn't trivia you knew.
21:03You, like, tried to find, like, a really hard question
21:06about Cam Hayward to stump me.
21:08I tried to find something, yeah.
21:09Yeah, yeah, yeah.
21:10Yeah, yeah.
21:11Okay, so how is he related to this?
21:12How is he related to your favorite...
21:14Highlight your grand knowledge and intelligence.
21:16Yeah, yeah, of course.
21:17They are related because they were both
21:19had bit parts in the 1938 movie
21:23The Amazing Dr. Klitterhouse.
21:39You know what? Look, I'm going to say something,
21:41and I mean it authentically.
21:43Yeah.
21:44If this is how you want to use your time here,
21:46it's fine with me.
21:48You're so funny.
21:49It's fine with me.
21:50I'm sorry.
21:51If this is how you want to, with your fun,
21:53your funny little jokes.
21:55Hey, hey, you're a joke.
21:56Well, I was inspired because you're a joke,
21:58eighth-degree black belt master crafts person.
22:00No, thank you.
22:01But still, I mean, I mean, yeah.
22:03So what I really did today was I looked up,
22:04hey, I started to think of jokes,
22:05because I do like to think of jokes.
22:07Do you?
22:08Yeah, I do.
22:09Do you think of jokes all the time yourself?
22:11I will admit that I do, when one occurs to me,
22:14it's probably the happiest I am.
22:17It makes me very happy, too.
22:18Yeah.
22:19And I'm, you know, I like to, yeah,
22:21I'm telling jokes all the time.
22:22I'm not proud of it, but I do it.
22:26It's kind of an addiction.
22:27So today I was going, oh, Cam Hayward and da-da-da-da.
22:30Wait a minute, wait a minute.
22:31And then I thought of the premise.
22:32Yeah.
22:33Cam Hayward, Susan Hayward.
22:34By the way, can I tell you a little tip about jokes?
22:35Yes.
22:36What you're doing now is not the fun part.
22:41Possibly.
22:42I like to see how the sausage is made
22:44and to talk about it.
22:46I feel like if you were at a sa...
22:48If you had Jeff Goldblum's sausage restaurant,
22:50you'd come over to the table and be like,
22:51now that you've enjoyed it...
22:55I like sausage.
22:56I'd like to have a sausage restaurant.
22:58Bauerwurst, Bratwurst.
23:00Bratwurst, Kajanachwurst.
23:04I do like it.
23:05Do you just want...
23:06Would you just want a sausage restaurant
23:08to be able to use the accent the way you just did?
23:10Because I feel...
23:11Yes, I do like to use an Austrian accent.
23:13Yeah.
23:14Yeah, you want the Bratwurst?
23:16Yeah, your accent was very good.
23:17You have an ear for many things.
23:19You're a master impressionist.
23:24What's the hardest accent you've had to do in a movie?
23:26Hardest what?
23:27Accent you've had to do in a movie.
23:28You said what?
23:29Like I was changing the gears.
23:32I misheard.
23:33I misheard accent.
23:34I thought you said act.
23:35Yeah.
23:36You said it quickly.
23:37What's the hardest act?
23:38Play it back.
23:39When you play it back, you'll see.
23:41I'm not completely wrong.
23:44Well, I did a movie called, off the top of my head,
23:47Adam Resurrected, and I was supposed to be from Germany?
23:50Yeah.
23:51Yeah.
23:52And it was just about that good.
23:53I mean, now I kind of want to see this movie.
23:56We do legally have to talk about Wicked, and we're going to do it this next act.
24:00We'll be right back with more from Jeff Goldblum.
24:02Jeff Goldblum.
24:22Welcome back.
24:23We're here with the wonderful Jeff Goldblum.
24:24I have four choices.
24:25You can talk about the baseball game.
24:26You can talk about art in your home.
24:28You can talk about doing a Wicked NBC Peacock show with Cynthia Erivo.
24:32Just like pick a card.
24:33Or you got a square on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
24:35A square?
24:36Or not a square.
24:37Yeah, you got a...
24:39No, you're...
24:40That's a little bit less than a star.
24:42Right, right.
24:43You're mixing me up with Charlie Weaver.
24:45Yeah.
24:46Once again.
24:47Yes.
24:48Good reference.
24:49Good reference.
24:50Yeah, yeah, yeah.
24:51Or Charles Nelson Reilly.
24:52How's Charles Weaver related to Cam Hayward?
24:56Not at all.
24:57Not at all.
24:58But Charlie Weaver is related to the Arquettes.
25:01His last name was Arquette.
25:03Really?
25:04Isn't that correct?
25:05So he's a relative of, of course, Patricia and Rosanna.
25:08Rosanna.
25:09What movie did I do with Rosanna Arquette?
25:12I'll give you a clue.
25:13Yeah, wait.
25:14The Tall Man.
25:15No, no.
25:16Thank you, Susan.
25:17He was the tall guy.
25:18I wasn't in that.
25:19You're mixing me up with Madonna.
25:20I was not in that.
25:21What was it?
25:22Give me a hint.
25:23I forgot.
25:24What are we talking about?
25:25What movie were you in with Rosanna?
25:27Oh, the clitoris one.
25:31Damn your eyes.
25:32Meeting the clitorisons.
25:33What's it called?
25:34Yeah, yeah, yeah.
25:36What was your Rosanna?
25:37Meeting the clitorisons.
25:38All right, so once again.
25:39We're going to say we've covered this.
25:41Okay, we covered that.
25:43Good idea.
25:44Next, next.
25:45Cynthia Erivo.
25:46Look at you on piano with Cynthia Erivo.
25:51I mean, let me tell you.
25:53What I'm very happy about, both of you are lights.
25:57You're very different lights, but to see you on stage,
25:59you're a light, she's a light.
26:00Like, being with you is very special.
26:01Oh, a light.
26:02Yeah, a light.
26:03Oh, I see what you're saying.
26:04Did you think I said act again?
26:06No, no, but it's an unusual phrase.
26:08It is a light.
26:09You are a light.
26:10Yeah, yeah.
26:11You are a light.
26:12I hear it all the time.
26:13I'm sure.
26:14No, I mean, you know, you got a light.
26:16Hey, mister, you got a light.
26:17But you are a light.
26:18Well, you are a light.
26:19No, I can't.
26:20I'm not in the same category.
26:21She is as bright as the night sky.
26:27She's like every constellation.
26:29Okay, there we go.
26:30I'm like Orion's belt.
26:32Oh, yeah.
26:33Just like one loop?
26:37Yes.
26:38You know what bums me out having kids?
26:39Do you have this yet where they're so happy,
26:41they always want to tell you what constellations are up,
26:43and they only ever know two?
26:45Big Dipper, Little Dipper.
26:46Yep.
26:47Yes, I think those are the only two I know.
26:49But if I had my phone, you know that app is pretty good.
26:52You do the app, yeah.
26:53Yeah, I tried to get them into that.
26:54You can aim at any place.
26:55Yep.
26:56And it'll show you the whole thing.
26:57Yeah, that's pretty cool.
26:58They got a little interested and then not so much.
27:00We haven't, you know, used it.
27:02I'm finding that with my kids with everything.
27:03They get a little bit interested and then not so much.
27:05Yes.
27:06That's the age.
27:07Yes.
27:08Well, ours are 8 and 10.
27:09Yours are right around that.
27:10Yep, 9 and 7, yep.
27:11And 4.
27:12I don't want to just dismiss her.
27:13No.
27:14I don't think it's fine.
27:15She fine, though.
27:16She's interested in everything.
27:17Really?
27:18Yeah.
27:19So I can't imagine you've got your hands full, I'm sure, because two of these boys.
27:22Two of these boys.
27:23You got them.
27:24Oh, my gosh.
27:25Do I ever.
27:26They're amazing.
27:27Why do we have this picture?
27:28I'll tell you.
27:29Oh, I know.
27:30Oh, isn't that sweet?
27:31Well, behind the sweet Woody, who's now 12.
27:33Oh, that's a beautiful dog.
27:34I know you're a dog lover.
27:35Yeah.
27:36I'm so sorry about Frisbee.
27:38Yeah.
27:39I think she might come back.
27:41Yes.
27:42I'm sure.
27:43Yes.
27:44Yeah, yeah.
27:45Yes, yes.
27:48I sense a presence here in the studio right now.
27:53No, but behind that is this obnoxiously narcissistic, but hopefully taken with the irony with which it was hung, picture of me.
28:02It's from the set of Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou.
28:06I mean, yeah, it's a perfect movie.
28:08And, by the way, everything in a Wes Anderson movie is art.
28:11Everything.
28:12Yes.
28:13So to have, you know, what I wouldn't give.
28:14I agree.
28:15Well, I didn't give anything.
28:16He gave it to me.
28:17Yeah, well, it's a great gift.
28:18And it's there.
28:19That's why.
28:20And while you have it, oh, there was a conversational thread that might have led there.
28:24Yeah.
28:25But it doesn't matter.
28:26It's very...
28:27This has been a real journey for you.
28:29And I'm so excited to see the last act of it.
28:32This Wicked...
28:33These Wicked films are really special.
28:34And it's been just wonderful watching you as a cast come through our world at a time where we most needed you.
28:39It's really just been special.
28:40Thank you so much.
28:41Thank you so much.
28:42Thank you so much.
28:43Thanks.
28:45It's true.
28:46It's true.
28:47Yeah, John M. Chu is a genius.
28:49And I think he's done a Meisterwerk with this movie.
28:51Both movies.
28:52But this really nails the sticks of the landing, I do believe.
28:55It's just glorious.
28:56And with those two women singing like they do and acting their hearts out, just fantastic.
29:01And, yes, for these times or any time, I believe this movie can contribute, if you agree, if you see it and feel the same, something that is noble, uplifting, and delicious.
29:15Well, I...
29:18This job never feels like work.
29:20The least it feels like work is when you're here.
29:22You guys, this is Jeff Goldblum.
29:24There's no one like him.
29:26Looking for games in theaters and I'm at November 21st.
29:29See you right back with Jane Krakowski.
29:31My next guest is a Tony Award-winning and Emmy-nominated actress who you know from her work on 30 Rock, Unbreakable, Kimmy Schmidt, Dickinson, and Ally McBeal.
29:56She's currently starring on Broadway as Mary Todd Lincoln in the hit play, Oh Mary, which is playing at the Lyceum Theatre.
30:02Please welcome back to the show our friend Jane Krakowski, everyone.
30:05Oh, there you are! Hello!
30:24How have you been enjoying your return to Broadway?
30:27Oh, well, I'm back on the boards.
30:30And what a part. I mean, people were thrilled when you were announced
30:34as one of the cast members.
30:36I mean, you're playing, look, Mary Todd Lincoln.
30:38And for those who don't know and haven't seen this incredible show, this Tony-winning show,
30:42you are playing a deeply inaccurate version of Mary Todd Lincoln.
30:48Yes, the life of dreams of Mary Todd Lincoln as told through the lens of an idiot.
30:52Yeah.
30:53The genius caller-scorer.
30:54Yeah.
30:55She's a former cabaret star, current alcoholic.
30:57Yeah.
30:58Now, who does that remind you of?
31:00Yeah.
31:01Yeah.
31:02Tell me your history with the show.
31:04When did you first see it?
31:05I first saw it downtown with Cole.
31:07And I went to go see it, you know, just because everyone was talking about it.
31:10It was one of those shows.
31:11And I had a little bit of a worry.
31:12I don't know if you had that worry.
31:13Yeah.
31:14I mean, I feel like I saw it three weeks into its run, and already people,
31:16everyone I knew said, you can't believe it.
31:18Yeah.
31:19And I was worried. I'm like, you're ruining it for me.
31:20Right.
31:21And then it absolutely met and exceeded my expectations.
31:23Mine, too. Mine, too. I was blown away.
31:25But I went to see it downtown, and oddly on the night that I was sitting only a few seats
31:30away from Steven Spielberg, Sally Field, and Tony Kushner, who did the actual factual film
31:35about Lincoln.
31:36Yeah.
31:37So that was a little weird.
31:38Yeah.
31:39But then I sat back and watched Cole's tour de force performance.
31:43And I really was just there to enjoy it.
31:44Then, like, in the middle of scene one, there's a line where Mary Todd says,
31:49Why would I throw an entire woman down the stairs? Because it's hilarious?
31:54And I sat up going, wait a minute. That sounds like a role I might play.
31:59It seemed like the Internet was as excited about the possibility of this casting as maybe
32:04you were the night you saw it. Like, there was... It was really...
32:07I remember when this photo first came out.
32:09There's so many people I follow were, like, basically posting it saying,
32:12Our dream has come true.
32:13I was so moved by it. I mean, I'm not a social media person, but I could feel
32:18Yeah.
32:19The reaction to it. And I was just so blown away by it.
32:22It's been... And it's been that way every night at the Lyceum Theatre.
32:25Thank you! It's been sensational!
32:29As anything... I know you... I believe you're the sixth Mary.
32:34Yeah.
32:35And I think you've seen every previous iteration. Is that correct?
32:36I have, yes.
32:37That's really something. So you're a fan as well as a star.
32:40I'm a giant fan. I was, like, such a girl fan that, like, when we were
32:42rehearsal, I wanted to know why everything was made and created.
32:44Yeah.
32:45Which was really super fun.
32:46Do you... Are there... Even having seen it as many times as you have,
32:49were there things that surprised you about it once you started playing her?
32:53Uh, the thing that surprised me the most was how heavy the dress actually is.
32:57Yeah.
32:58I mean, I've got to be honest, Ian. It looks heavy.
33:00Yeah.
33:01I mean, that's a big...
33:02It's the size of the couch.
33:04I mean, that's a massive... It's a massive, yeah.
33:06It's a massive dress. But Cole and all the other Marys made it look like they were just flitting and flying around on the stage like it was light.
33:11Yeah.
33:12But what I've come to know now doing the show for a month of performance is, um, I have bruises everywhere on my body.
33:20And, but I've felt no pain doing the show. It must be the applause.
33:26Applause is the best medicine.
33:27Because I come home and there's, like, bruises everywhere. But I didn't feel it. I hurt myself.
33:30That's great.
33:31Yeah.
33:32Well, I mean, you know, I, I will admit there are times from Broadway shows where I'm very cognizant of how much time I've been sitting or, you know, I wonder when this is going to wrap itself up.
33:41Yeah.
33:42Um, I'm sometimes a little sad when I realize I look and I'm like, oh, there's three more songs.
33:46Yes.
33:47Yes, I know the feeling.
33:48This, this show is over in a second as a viewer.
33:52Yes.
33:53I would imagine on stage, does it feel the same way? Does it just fly?
33:55It absolutely flies. I mean, it's, it's the magical 75 minute show.
33:59Yeah.
34:00It's a gift.
34:01Yeah.
34:02Uh, yeah, it does. I mean, once Mary comes through those doors, she doesn't really leave.
34:05Yeah.
34:06So you just go on the, the whole ride.
34:08It's also just such a fun, I mean, the dialogue, some of the writing is just incredible.
34:13Yeah.
34:14But also, you know, it's so fun to see an old school show where people are making just entrances and exits and slamming doors.
34:20There has to be an incredible amount of choreography for you as well.
34:24Yeah, there, there was. I mean, there is.
34:27Um, you know, I've never done a put in before, like where I have taken over a role.
34:31Yes.
34:32And that was a very different experience. So you really only have like one day on the set.
34:37Yeah.
34:38To do the, you rehearse in a blank room and then suddenly you're in the stage and you're like, oh, these are the iconic doors.
34:42I've got to get this giant hoop skirt in and out of. And so that was really interesting, um, to, you know, to just be thrown in that way.
34:49But, um, it's been, it's been a dream. I'm having a time of my life.
34:53Great. You also have, uh, there are audience members who, much like you, have seen the show multiple times.
34:57Yes. Yes. And for super fans of the show, there's a level of anticipation.
35:03They're so familiar with the script at this point.
35:06Yes. Well, when I also, when I first got announced there, there was a, you know, loads of texts came through and stuff like that.
35:13But many of my friends who were O'Mary fans that have also seen it as many times as me and seen every Mary were texting me lines that they couldn't wait to hear my version of or how I was going to say it, which put so much pressure on me when I was like, well, how am I going to say it differently? I don't know.
35:28Um, and, but I feel like every night in the show, certain audience members are waiting for those.
35:33Yeah.
35:34Like some, like, please don't drop my books like that.
35:36Yeah.
35:37Or Louise wants to rub ice cream on her .
35:39Yeah.
35:40Yeah.
35:41And that is the one line that actually was a direct quote for Mary Todd Lincoln.
35:45That's the one.
35:46That's the one.
35:47That's the one.
35:48That was the one research thing.
35:50That's the one research thing.
35:51Outside of, you know, all the talented people you had seen play the part, were there any inspirations that you pulled from?
35:58Oh, wow.
35:59Well, I really, I wanted to use Cole as my OG Bible.
36:03Yeah.
36:04Even though I loved every Mary.
36:05I mean, I got, like, makeup pointers from Jinx.
36:08Yeah.
36:09I mean, everybody was so funny, and everybody brings so many special moments to it when they're in it.
36:14But my inspirations for Mary were Escola Cole, Keen Laura, Davis Betty, and Piggy Miss.
36:22Oh, wow.
36:23There's a little Miss Piggy in there as well.
36:24A little bit of them all in there.
36:25Yeah.
36:26A little bit in there.
36:27You, obviously, people are, I would imagine, waiting outside, very excited to see you after a show, interacting with somebody they've just set on stage.
36:36Have you had moments where you've been excited to see someone in the way that people are probably so excited to see you after a show?
36:43Oh, wow. I'm not really a stage door person.
36:46Okay, gotcha.
36:47I'm trying to think, though, about that.
36:49I've been blown away.
36:50Right now, there's, like, a Broadway stage door fervor activity.
36:54Yeah.
36:55Do you feel like it's different than it used to be?
36:57Totally.
36:58Okay, gotcha.
36:59Now there's, like, a line of people.
37:00But I have to say what's been so lovely, and it's been helping sell the tickets, too, which is incredible, but, like, the 30 Rock fans are coming out to see the show.
37:07They're flying from, like, across the country to come see me at the show, and I've been so amazed.
37:11But they also are, like, they're wearing T-shirts.
37:14They're, like, they're showing up in, like, Royal Tampa Academy of Dramatic Tricks T-shirts.
37:19And two people came with the problem solvers, you know, from that episode.
37:23And it's rural Europe stuff.
37:25Genocide hats.
37:26That's good.
37:27I will say the nice thing is, like, 30 Rock tonally, like, overlaps so nicely with O' Mary.
37:31So I feel like they're fantastic.
37:33John Krasinski did a great, like, he was in this one-man show, and it was incredible.
37:38But it was also, like, very dark and after the show.
37:40And he just blew me away.
37:41And I got up, and I was walking out, and there was just, like, a 15-year-old in a Dunder Mifflin shirt.
37:47Right.
37:48And he was just like, oh, that's not what I signed up for.
37:50Yeah.
37:51It crosses over a little bit more. It crosses over a little bit more.
37:54You grew up in New Jersey.
37:55When did your, like, love of Broadway?
37:57Did you start coming in?
37:58Oh, very early.
37:59Okay.
38:00Yeah.
38:01My parents were big.
38:02I mean, they had real jobs, not like me.
38:05They had real jobs.
38:06They were a chemical engineer and a teacher.
38:08But they were, they loved the theater.
38:10Gotcha.
38:11And they performed in a community theater.
38:12So I think I first went on stage with my parents when they didn't get a babysitter when I was, like, three years old.
38:17Really?
38:18Yeah.
38:19And they just brought you to see a show?
38:20Apparently I was moody and backstage, and they were in The Christmas Carol.
38:23A Christmas Carol?
38:24I'm being that lady who says The Christmas Carol.
38:27A Christmas Carol.
38:28And they, I was apparently being too moody and too loud backstage or crying or whatever.
38:33And so they just put one of those little bonnets on my head and brought me out as an unbilled Cratchit child.
38:38Really?
38:39Yeah.
38:40The reviewer was very harsh.
38:42They were like, there were too many Cratchits.
38:44I did a head count.
38:45I did a head count.
38:46You can't take liberties with demons.
38:47You can't.
38:48You can't add a Cratchit.
38:49They have enough mouths to feed without you adding a Cratchit.
38:52Yeah, right.
38:53But we used to come in and see every, every show.
38:54That's fantastic.
38:55Every show.
38:56And like, shows like A Chorus Line or Chicago.
38:58Like, I was so influenced by those because I was like nine or ten and going to see it.
39:03Yeah.
39:04I mean, I saw A Chorus Line.
39:05Like, people used to see Star Wars.
39:06They'd say, I saw Star Wars 13 times.
39:08I saw A Chorus Line 13 times.
39:10It's so fun that you're in.
39:11That's how cool I am.
39:13But now you're in the show that is that for so many people.
39:16And I think especially from here, the end of your run is January 4th.
39:20Like, this is the holiday season.
39:22I really think you're going to see that, like, people from all over the country have been waiting to see this play.
39:26It's so lovely.
39:27They're going to see you as Mary.
39:28Yes.
39:29And congratulations.
39:30And thank you for being back.
39:31It's always so great to see you.
39:32Oh, thank you.
