00:00Is this a game changer for Ford at all to be able to sell its used vehicles on Amazon?
00:06It's sort of Ford putting a toe in the water on doing a deal with Amazon. Hyundai was the first
00:12to get on the Amazon Autos portal about a year ago, and they're selling new cars. Ford is coming
00:19with its certified used cars first to see how that goes. They are getting a lot of interest
00:24from their dealers in it. They do this in partnership with their dealers. But it will
00:29sort of address these issues that consumers have about the hassles of buying a car. It's
00:35one fixed price. It's a pretty speedy process. You can do it all on your phone or at your laptop.
00:42Can't do any deals, though, right, with Amazon. I like buying a car because you get to
00:46really move the price down if you know how to do it. It's interesting that it's just used cars
00:55because, on the one hand, you know, they're not going with the new cars like Hyundai and others
01:02who have gone online in various forms. On the other hand, it says something about the affordability of
01:08new cars that people are taking certified used cars as a real substitute.
01:13That's absolutely right, Matt. You know, we have this affordability crisis in the new car market where
01:18the average price is now over $50,000. Well, the average price of a used car, a three-year-old used
01:24car, is about $31,000, which I know sounds like what a new car used to be. It is. But it's still
01:30more affordable. So many new car buyers are migrating to the used lot. Ford's certified program, like many
01:37other certified programs, includes a multi-point inspection. You actually can get a warranty of up
01:42to a year and 12,000 miles. So it's feeling a little more like the new car buying experience.
01:47There's a few more guarantees. But it is a growing market. Used vehicles are what a lot of mainstream
01:54buyers are turning to.
