No hot water, no Wi-Fi, no cars.
00:03
This is life as a caretaker on Great Blasket Island.
00:07
The island is one of Europe's most remote places, uninhabited, except for two people
00:12
every summer.
00:13
This season it's Camille Rosenfeld and James Hayes.
00:15
Well, some people will be like, oh, I could never do that, that's so not my thing.
00:19
And other people are like, well, of course.
00:21
And I think we're just like the of course kind of people.
00:23
They were chosen from hundreds of applicants to live and work off-grid for six months.
00:29
Part of the deal is running five holiday cottages and a tiny cafe.
00:33
A lot of work that comes with extra challenges.
00:37
Only cold water from a spring, electricity from a wind turbine, heat from coal.
00:42
So you just kind of have to react to everything and just have a good attitude.
00:46
Showers are lovely.
00:47
I actually feel like I miss that so much I have to put it out of my mind and not think about it.
00:53
Great Blasket is rich in wildlife, seals, sharks, birds, but cut off during storms.
00:59
It's last residence left in the 1950s.
01:02
The couple's engagement is now coming to an end.
01:06
Sitting in the sand, letting the water like come up by my hips and just watching the seals
01:10
and listening and feeling the wind.
01:13
This is what I really want to remember and take back with me so I can tune back into that.
01:18
Applications for the summer of 2026 will soon open.
01:21
So what about you?
01:22
Would you apply?
01:23
So what about you?
01:24
Would you apply?
01:26
For the summer of 2026 iserto LA won't you
01:28
or marinate you all on?
01:29
That'd be time to bring social media and support us.
01:31
Even if it takes electricity.
01:31
And then you should bring a civil war out of your mind.
01:35
It is a difficult mistake to make, man, to be reached in the kanelaści of when the earth
01:46
is the black market on the earth.
01:46
Look, there's a big glass in the sand pond.
01:48
oms can look to the sun that's gonna hold on it.
