Could you last on an Irish deserted island?

No hot water. No Wi-Fi. No escape. Every summer, two people go off-grid on Ireland’s wildest island. Dream job or worst nightmare?

00:03This is life as a caretaker on Great Blasket Island.

00:07The island is one of Europe's most remote places, uninhabited, except for two people

00:12every summer.

00:13This season it's Camille Rosenfeld and James Hayes.

00:15Well, some people will be like, oh, I could never do that, that's so not my thing.

00:19And other people are like, well, of course.

00:21And I think we're just like the of course kind of people.

00:23They were chosen from hundreds of applicants to live and work off-grid for six months.

00:29Part of the deal is running five holiday cottages and a tiny cafe.

00:33A lot of work that comes with extra challenges.

00:37Only cold water from a spring, electricity from a wind turbine, heat from coal.

00:42So you just kind of have to react to everything and just have a good attitude.

00:46Showers are lovely.

00:47I actually feel like I miss that so much I have to put it out of my mind and not think about it.

00:53Great Blasket is rich in wildlife, seals, sharks, birds, but cut off during storms.

00:59It's last residence left in the 1950s.

01:02The couple's engagement is now coming to an end.

01:06Sitting in the sand, letting the water like come up by my hips and just watching the seals

01:10and listening and feeling the wind.

01:13This is what I really want to remember and take back with me so I can tune back into that.
