Transcript
00:00This beautiful Italian spot is an island of prisoners.
00:05Piero is one of 90 inmates.
00:08He was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
00:11After five years and a half that I was in other institutions,
00:14you feel almost free.
00:17Every inmate is required to work.
00:20The island is self-sustaining.
00:22Unarmed guards watch over the prisoners.
00:25Only to go into the air, you have to open 50 doors.
00:30You go up and you have another 50 doors.
00:32You always hear the key to turn around.
00:34In other words, they say, go on, go on, go on.
00:39After work, the men decide for themselves how to spend their free time.
00:44They are only locked up in the evenings.
00:47The last attempted escape from Gorgona was in the 1980s.
00:52Getting a place on the island is tough.
01:05Despite all the amenities, Gorgona is still a prison.
01:08Significa che per quanto bella possa essere l'isola,
01:11alla persona che sta sull'isola,
01:13gli manca la cosa più importante della vita che è la libertà.
