MacKenzie Scott has donated more than $19 billion

Billionaire philanthropist MacKenzie Scott has donated an eye-popping $19.25 billion since 2020.

00:04but it's barely made a dent in her net worth because of the power of her Amazon shares.

00:08Already this fall, Scott has donated around $816 million. Some of Scott's largest donations went

00:15to Howard University, Morgan State University, and Winston-Salem State University. In 2019,

00:22Scott pledged to give away most of her wealth, and to date, she has given 36% of her net worth,

00:27according to Forbes. Upon her divorce from Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, she received roughly a 4%

00:33stake in the company, which amounted to roughly 139 million shares at the time. And while she

00:38continues selling and donating her shares, her wealth continues to grow. Year to date, she's

00:43added $1.15 billion to her net worth, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. And since November

00:492020, Amazon share prices have jumped more than 42%. Scott's gifts are unusual in the fact that

00:56they're unrestricted, meaning the organizations can choose how to use the donations. Her most

01:01recent donations have focused on diversity and inclusion efforts, education, and disaster recovery.
