00:00Whether you are new to vegetable gardening or an experienced pro, sometimes
00:04it's difficult to know how and when to harvest vegetables. Hi this is Amy from
00:09Gardening Know How and I'm going to share a few handy garden harvest tips
00:13that will have you picking those vegetables at their peak. Basically the
00:17best time to harvest vegetables is when the commercial farmers do, early in the
00:21morning. Produce harvested in the morning tends to stay crisp and fresh while
00:25veggies harvested during the heat of the day tend to wilt. Veggies continue to
00:30improve or degrade after they are picked so timing is crucial. Some plants like
00:36tomatoes, zucchini, peppers and various root vegetables like carrots can be picked
00:41at any time of the day but should then go right into proper storage. Onions should
00:45be harvested once the foliage begins to yellow and the tops fall over. After
00:49digging the onions dry or cure for several days then cut off the tops and store in
00:54a cool dry area. Well now you have the know-how to properly harvest some of the
00:58most common vegetables. Until next time, happy gardening!
