The current exhibition at Kunstraum Dornbirn in Austria is dedicated to the artist Anna Hulačová. Titled “Bucolica”, Anna Hulačová’s solo show at Kunstraum Dornbirn fuses futuristic technology with ancient myths, probing agriculture, ecology, and dialectics of utopia-dystopia, tradition-progress. Hybrid sculptures—concrete, ceramics, wood, honeycombs—blend human-machine forms, oscillating between abstract and representational. In the historic hall, concrete figures sow, harvest, and share meals; faces are glazed ceramics or drawings, limbs taper, organs replaced by honeycombs. “Calf Bearer” (2025) was colonized by bees in the artist’s garden, evoking “bugonia” renewal. “To Eternity” shows a cow’s head with honeycombs from its throat, bridging life-death cycles. Referencing Socialist Realism, medieval tools (“The Man with the Hoe,” 2025), and industrial transitions, works critique mechanized labor. Metallic silos and towers nod to Le Corbusier’s functionalism. Purposeful yet frozen figures echo bucolic poetry’s rural idyll. Christian motifs (“Klučov Eaters,” 2023) and humor (“Jester with Toaster,” 2025) temper dystopia with hope via folkloric craft. Born 1984 in Sušice, Czech Republic, Hulačová graduated from Prague’s Academy of Fine Arts and has exhibited internationally, including National Gallery Prague, Centre Pompidou, and Aichi Triennial. Anna Hulačová’s “Bucolica” at Kunstraum Dornbirn runs until March 1, 2026.
