Mathis Altmann, Fitzpatrick Gallery at Basel Social Club 2026

For the 2026 edition of Basel Social Club, Mathis Altmann (*1987) presents a new series of video objects accompanied by a sound sculpture and his latest work of large-scale silkscreens on canvas. On display are the video objects ‘Millenial Oscillator’ 2026; Walking Economies, 2026; and ‘Hub’, 2026; the silkscreen ‘Atomized’, 2026; and the sound sculpture ‘Untitled’, 2026.

Mathis Altmann (b. 1987, Munich) is a German-Swiss artist based in Zürich, with frequent activity in Berlin. He received a BFA from the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) in 2011 and has taught as a lecturer at the same institution since 2016. Altmann is known for his sculptural installations and assemblages that combine found objects, consumer goods, waste materials, building components, miniatures, and electronic elements. His works often present dense, miniature-scale scenes of urban clutter, architectural fragments, and chaotic environments, addressing themes related to consumer culture, contemporary labor conditions, and urban transformation. He is represented by Fitzpatrick Gallery in Paris, where he has presented solo exhibitions such as Total Distress (2022). Other notable solo shows include presentations at Kunstmuseum Winterthur, Kunsthaus Pasquart, and Efremidis Gallery. Altmann has participated in group exhibitions at institutions including the Swiss Institute in New York and has received awards such as the Manor Art Prize (2021) and the Swiss Art Award (2015). His work is held in various public and private collections.
