00:00The presence of fossil fuel lobbyists at this year's COP30 climate talks in Brazil is higher
00:08than ever, according to a report from Kick Big Polluters Out. More than 1,600 lobbyists have
00:16been granted access to the summit, proportionally a 12 percent increase from last year's talks in
00:21Baku, Azerbaijan. The report indicates that these lobbyists outnumber almost every country delegation,
00:28with the exception of host country Brazil. KBPO, which has tracked industry participation at COP
00:34since 2021, says the presence sparks concern about corporate capture of climate action and
00:41the credibility of the COP. The report says the industry presence threatens the stated goals of
00:47COP30, in a critical moment for the implementation of the Paris Agreement, as emissions from fossil
00:53fuels are on track to reach an all-time high this year.
