00:18This is the country number three yes, Mexico Belize and Guatemala now
00:24500 years ago Spanish conquistadors invaded the Guatemalan rainforest
00:34Determined to conquer the local Maya people by brutal means
00:38Advancing gradually through impenetrable terrain for nearly 200 years until they reach the last stronghold and Flores pretend
00:47How do you feel about a rope bridge?
00:49It's not wobbly is it
00:54My goodness me
00:56What a view
00:58Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. It is shaking. We're not going to turn back. No. We never turn back. Exactly. Hang on. I'm a, I'm a, I'm a, oh boy
01:05God. Wow
01:08Today it's host to a friendlier arrival who have gained a 23-hour lead over the other teams
01:17This is miles but all this is jungle. We're heading into that somewhere. I know
01:21You're in front of me with a machete
01:24I'd do it. You know me. Yeah
01:28Do you think the others are worried about us? Yeah, that is gonna be the thing we have to be careful of
01:34Yeah, because there's a target on our back as long as we win this race
01:37We win this race
01:39Come on, dad
01:41We need to chill out
01:43This is exactly what we need
01:46After all the stress I'm gonna eat everything I see
01:48At the first checkpoint
01:51We knew I need someone for first
01:53It's Yorkshire. I'm telling you they got this way about
01:54As three teams enjoy restorative downtime
01:56We could be a deadly force because we've got nothing to lose. We're already lost so like a wounded animal
02:01pouncing ready to pouncing ready to pouncing ready to pouncing ready to pounce
02:03Come on dad, here we go
02:04Setting off in the lead
02:05Buonas dias
02:10Anita and Bahl are first to find out where they're heading next
02:13time we could be a deadly force because we've got nothing to lose we're already lost so like
02:18a wounded animal pouncing ready to pass come on dad here we go setting off in the lead bonos
02:27anita and bala first to find out where they're heading next your hands are shaking in here
02:33i'm not surprised adrenaline here we go your second checkpoint is el zonte where's el zonte never
02:43heard of it i think we're heading to another country dad for safety reasons travel after dark
02:48is not allowed this leg across this region of central america increased trafficking and crime
02:57at night means it's only safe for all teams to travel in daylight okay we are going into some
03:03spicy territory then the race is on come on team whip it let's do it
03:12right hell's on so i just asked somebody hola senor el zonte donde estan ah gracias
03:21gonna issue zoom out okay san salvador's there so it's between there and there el zonte senior
03:28thank you muchas gracias okay 940 kilometers to the south el zonte in el salvador
03:39after a halt in the country's recent turbulent history the pristine coastline has begun to attract
03:45visitors this surfing mecca was nicknamed bitcoin beach after the town was an early adopter of accepting
03:53cryptocurrency as payment to get there teams could head for the caribbean taking advantage of the
04:00well-trodden but expensive tourist routes in southern belize or brave the less explored fertile valleys of
04:08western honduras alternatively they may choose to stay in guatemala a more direct but arduous routes
04:17through tropical jungle and across its precipitous volcanic highlands this looks like it could be a
04:24quick route yeah we know that they speak english in belize yes and then from there we can go down to
04:29honduras yeah we're crossing then one two three borders we're going to miss guatemala completely
04:38yeah and also belize is expensive
04:43this will be the longest we've ever spent together like intensely it'll be wonderful just to get to
04:48know your parent you know you choose you choose come on we've come to guatemala yeah and we're then
04:54jumping back out of guatemala without seeing nothing so yeah no no let's let's stick to guatemala we're
04:58not a family of communicators at all we're a family of doers right dad i think we've made our decision
05:06choosing to travel south through guatemala their most direct route is via the city of caban gateway to
05:12the central highlands well coven yeah like two we're off something in the air
05:21back at the checkpoint the other three teams are preparing for the next leg of the race
05:51hill this is to clear your spirit your physical body your mind so you can receive our sacred medicine
06:02our sacred cacao to connect with the spirit of fish cacao beforehand there's the opportunity to take part
06:09in a ceremony to honor the goddess of the cacao tree ish cacao a revered figure in guatemalan mayan
06:15mythology we call upon your presence here we are offering your drink to bring peace in their heart
06:24peace in their spirit believed to be the source of the plant's spiritual and healing properties
06:30participants ritually drink its liquid form similar in taste to raw hot chocolate as they meditate to
06:36seek her guidance you're gonna connect with the spirit of fish cacao ask her to receive the medicine
06:44this is a special moment for you to let go today anything that no longer you need to be carrying
06:49your life in your heart in your mind and find peace and love
06:57when you're ready you can share
07:04i think it's really lucky to be able to have moments where you do stop and think about those
07:08things that have happened in your life but also to let go of the things that sometimes you hold on
07:13to i mean me personally i'd struggle to take those moments because i kind of don't want to because
07:19there's a lot of sadness attached to it yes that's in your safe box out the way to protect you
07:23exactly yeah put it in a box and you haven't got to worry about it but it's really important to
07:28to have these moments you don't want to forget thank you it's important to connect
07:33you can share so i feel a sense of peace but connection to people i've lost
07:41in my life it brings me closer they're here always with us in other dimensions
07:51um me me and my mom lost to have someone closer um i lost my brother and my mom lost her son
08:00um um his name is james and yeah i just wish i wish he could like take my place and
08:09do this do all this and travel world but he never got to
08:19my eldest brother james he um he took his life um when he was 20 i was 16.
08:28he just hit us all hard so hard
08:36doing this race is like doing it for my brother and my mom he would have loved to do something like
08:41this i think she'd like to have that kind of journey with the sun and i think i would have dreamt it for
08:49her to have that with james he's with you the whole time the whole time he was sat right here
08:56he'd be laughing at everything that that you know you're going to he lived life to the full he was so
09:07popular he had so many friends like he was he was my hero james was everything i wanted to be
09:15um with his confidence i really want to get out of my comfort zone and support my mom because i want
09:25to look after her on this trip because she deserves it he would be proud of me i think i know he's like
09:33he's with us with us yeah yeah he's your guardian angel i know that yeah you guys are doing it for
09:38him you know yeah yeah he's racing with us yeah he's not doing very well
09:42i feel a sense of relief and release and um relaxed yeah actually we both feel sort of a zen
09:59now don't we yeah i wonder what we got ahead oh god oh i'm panicking again okay okay
10:12now that's why you've got a local bush 130 kilometers to the south anita and bal are making
10:25tracks towards kuban it's really really difficult to describe this i'm trying to soak soak it all in
10:33wherever you look it's actually green it's amazing
10:36um why are we stopping here has something happened does everybody come off here
10:47the road is closed because they're courtesy it's a three days process and no one can pass so we have
10:53to walk right the road is blocked we'll have to do some walking from here oh it's wet yeah that's
11:00what's that across the country civil unrest is unfolding the gobierno emitio uncomunicado respecto
11:23citizens who object to the proposed new law are blockading parts of the country's road network
11:30hang on what are all these guys doing is this the protest right where do we get to coban how do
11:37we get there let's keep going we're going to be walking for a while south of the blockade the road is
11:43clear but the father daughter team need to find a connection to coban in the next town there's a bus
11:50right there that's go ban no i have to go ban see go ban go ban go ban no god dad this is a right
12:05mission we need to seriously think about the fact that it's not going to be quick getting anywhere
12:12i just hope there is a bus what if there isn't a bus then what maybe we could hitchhike
12:28so
12:36el zontay leaving the checkpoint just over 23 hours behind the leaders
12:43brother and sister roman and harley moon i think we should stay within guatemala i've
12:50got a real feeling yeah that this route from flores down to caban looks quicker my gut in terms of
12:57speed is saying head towards honduras and go down but we know it's not that expensive here yeah
13:03i trust you if you feel like you've got gut feeling i've got a real i've got a real
13:08you feel it let's do it yes all right let's do it we've got a plan we've got a plan we're gonna do it
13:15we're gonna get there quicker than bow and i need it they can eat our dust unaware of the protests
13:22roman's guts decision is to take the most direct route through guatemala to save time and money
13:29i'm really glad that he's feeling confident because i think in the first leg he was quite
13:34anxious and so i'll sit back and let him drive it if it all goes wrong big sister will have to step in
13:40again you ready for a jungle yes chef can you see the others at all what you think the others will
13:46be coming in by boat now yeah okay we've got some catching up to do we've got a lot of catching up to
13:55do right nearly two hours behind the siblings get the old map out couple molly and tyler if we go east
14:03we could go via belize oh we can't miss out on the opportunity to go to the caribbean whilst we're
14:11on this race it makes sense it just makes too much sense and we could do a little stop at hopkins
14:17beach belize we can pick up a job down there this place looks cool work in the kitchen or on the
14:23restaurant floor local caribbean twists and on like a patty that's the food that we love and adore that
14:28is our heritage i love a patty me yeah food all my days foods like our love language experience some
14:34home-cooked caribbean food which is so close to our hearts oh yeah we go to places because we know
14:40the food's going to be wicked we'll be a little home away from home every team's going to have
14:45a weakness ours is probably going to be like trying not to spend money on food yeah don't blow the
14:50budget no right promise plan is via belize and then we go south stop off probably by the coast
14:57there's boats shortcut across the caribbean sea to honduras sorry that's a bit of a game changer
15:02oh i'd love that making a fast getaway from guatemala molly and tyler are taking a circuitous route
15:09via belize and the hope a quick dash across the sea to honduras will propel them towards the next
15:15checkpoint going back to our caribbean heritage means a lot to us and getting a little taste of the
15:21food the vibe the culture will be so special adios adios leaving the checkpoint in last place
15:32welcome to hell part two yeah dylan and jackie are trailing 30 hours behind the leaders
15:40the mother and son team also have the least money left having already spent over a quarter of their budget
15:46there could be a route through honduras maybe it doesn't look too bad i agree and see if there's
15:53any jobs around there yeah we we haven't done a homestay yet and it's something we're itching to do
15:59it's all been brief encounters with yeah the locals and it'll be really lovely to make a nice connection
16:05yeah and that's going to help on our budget see how far we can get today it sounds like we're starting
16:10to get a plan here don't you think yeah i think i think we're cooking with gas yeah save money make
16:16money honduras that's a great catchphrase check it i feel like i'm getting some fire in my belly and
16:25like a bit more passionate we want to try and get back in the fight you know now let's get to the bus
16:31station run never seen dylan so energized dylan's plan to get as far as they can towards honduras before
16:39nightfall by traveling to the border town of morales hola hola here we go to have some sort of
16:48travel today is huge considering we're late out i wonder what you get in the water crap over an hour to
16:58the south roman and harley moon in agua it's a crocodile no there's crocodiles there's crocodiles
17:07there's crocodiles still unaware of the road blockade 70 kilometers away they are venturing to an island
17:14deep in the guatemalan jungle all right it is right in the jungle isn't it one of the region's last natural
17:23reserves punta de chimino as a vital habitat for an array of native wild animals seeking refuge from
17:30hunting and deforestation from the anteater to the ocelot
17:34the ocelot yeah okay it's the tigers there's something about tigers
17:44say nature lovers can stay at the island's eco lodge can i get a bug spread
17:50i'm getting absolutely bitten to shreds where budget-conscious roman has agreed to work and
17:56return for bed and board i like to think that the dynamic between harley and i when we were growing
18:12up was classic younger brother older sister yeah you ready ready three two one when we were kids
18:23i felt like i was the boss whenever we would play like batman and robin i was always robin
18:29harley yeah do you want to say something yeah oh it's a dog
18:39roman was always a bit of a scared kid he didn't like to sleep in his own room
18:43i would be in bed and i would hear the creep of the door and feel him creep in the bed as quiet as he
18:52could and i would scare the crap out of him every sweep you think you see like a spider yeah
19:01i actually feel so guilty but i was mean to roman as an older sister i should have looked out for him
19:08i'll get the leaves out yeah you get the leaves out do you remember when we were kids what when you
19:14got your first job in a hairdressing salon i must have been about 12 or 11. you were sweeping hair
19:21and from that moment i thought oh my god i've got to catch up with her i know that if you have
19:28famous parents there's an air of people instantly judging you oh that's so-and-so's kid nepo baby
19:36blah blah blah blah blah i think that actually drove me a little bit more to be a really hard worker
19:43i don't know if she knows this but harley was always the person that i looked up to the most
19:51i would see this person be so confident and as a young boy you're kind of looking and going wow like
19:57you know you're like a superhero i just felt like you set the standard for me that
20:03you need to work hard as possible because i don't disagree i trained you well i do appreciate it good
20:17sometimes i feel quite far apart from roman in our day-to-day lives
20:23and hearing that he did look up to me it's like a really heartwarming feeling
20:28you know here 240 kilometers to the south having navigated their way through the protest anita and
20:38bal are spending the night in the guatemalan highlands basically i need to leave really early in the
20:44morning at 6 00 a.m well you can pass in principle roads there are more protests
20:51mm-hmm all day tomorrow and the whole of guatemala so nobody can drive tomorrow
20:59that means the other teams will have the same problem yes so regardless unless they've gone
21:03gone through belize and honduras in which case they have the advantage
21:18in guatemala local protests have turned into a national uprising with all major highways blocked
21:33and violent clashes in the cities
21:40having just emerged from the jungle we need to move we need to get back in the race roman and harley
21:46moon are still only 65 kilometers from the first checkpoint whoa a national strike has been announced
21:55in guatemala and many major roads have been blocked for safety reasons your race will be paused this is
22:01an ongoing situation and an update will be issued later today okay all right we're in lockdown in guatemala
22:10to the south so basically we're trapped now a second team at a standstill so our advantage is
22:19know what we can do so why worry about it there's part of me that's absolutely like you very
22:25philosophical about this because there's nothing we can do but there is another part of my brain that
22:30is very much um oh dear i think we're doing well this leg so far that was a good decision coming
22:38through yeah definitely having avoided the blockades in central guatemala dylan and jackie are in the
22:44clear approaching the border to honduras the second leg is all about underdogs coming back we're gonna
22:52clutch it that's uh it's a saying in uh in the gaming world where it's like you get the win against all
22:59odds you clutch it
23:05the second largest but one of the least visited countries in central america honduras
23:10it's incredibly humid very caribbean yeah it's lovely while belize relies on income from tourists
23:18this is a nation of agriculture profiting from bananas coffee sugar and cacao
23:29here we have some tools for you guys okay dylan and jackie have found work with farmer roley
23:35machete that's just for me we will behave yeah we have about 2500 trees wow really okay so you really
23:46have to hurry up known for its high quality and aroma honduran cacao is among the finest in the world
23:54go from tree to tree go on when harvesting the fruits must be picked before they become overripe
24:02or the flavor of the seeds is ruined i've never been like this before oh oh it's a dog
24:08cow oh cacao oh cacao
24:11cacao
24:14i reckon roley's showing my mum the hot spot yeah i bet she's got more than me because she's great at
24:21gardening i i haven't found one yet i can't see them it's like doing where's wally or something i need a
24:29a bag where are you yeah coming
24:38i'm really hot no you don't sweat so you're not working hard enough oh my god okay otherwise we're
24:44losing the half of them anyways the good thing is you can't see that i'm having a little rest here
24:48how you getting on it's not easy is it to find them yeah i might have a sit down what's up do you
24:57think we should have to have a go a bit more or shall we get sacked and get on the race yeah we could
25:01we could get fired we could be like i quit i just hope he's not carrying a machete when we're talking to
25:09them oh i can hear something inside we've got a few more no the the other bag the other bag
25:22would it be okay to go now because we're actually racing against three other teams no we cannot just
25:27stop because otherwise i have to hire people to do the rest yeah okay noise okay
25:33okay okay let's go
25:43there's something different about reggae music we're chilling and nothing else matters right now 180
25:51kilometers to the north molly and tyler freewheeling in belize
25:55the most diverse nation in central america a place where cultures meet to create a unique blend
26:05of music art and cuisine bro i'm hungry first we need to get to work boy hopkins is that way four
26:13miles right all right we'll try a hitchhike have you got any hitchhiking tips yeah well we're just saying
26:19not stand all together yeah yeah we've got this don't worry we're going in front of the speed bump what
26:24great tip that is a great tip are you serious are you for sure great going guys he might have space
26:36he's sped up he's sped up no okay this next car i believe
26:45oh we're getting vibes we're getting vibes hi it's going to hopkins beach no prop yeah
26:54there we go all right you are going to paradise what's your name marlon marlon yeah this is hopkins
27:00village a peaceful village our heritage is jamaican yeah what no respect man yeah so what do you do
27:07in england so i'm an actor and a singer what yeah i like music too i sing original really yeah
27:14oh my gosh you're so cool man and if you're born of belize and you love belize just say yeah yeah
27:35yeah yeah back in guatemala hola yeah do you know about what's happening with the strike
27:45maybe tomorrow is the same okay is there any way of finding out please can you check on the news yeah
27:54i would check thank you the capital is bad now a lot of traffic and everything is blocked there is no
27:59passage oh my god this is bad news right now what if it goes on for days what happens then is the race
28:07over for us it's hard to being far away from home in a new place where something's going on and you
28:14don't really know what it is you know we don't really know if it's safe for us to go outside yeah
28:19you just gotta remember to stay calm as soon as they say we can go it's gonna be full adrenaline back
28:27on it's hard to know which of the teams will be actually in guatemala what if they went into belize
28:32what if they went into honduras you know
28:35a small coastal paradise hopkins beach is the cultural center of the garifuna people
28:53a mixed heritage community that emerged in the 17th century after liberated west african slaves from a
29:00shipwreck intermarried with the indigenous people of the caribbean
29:08chef ty in the building at the heart of the community a beachside restaurant it's for that
29:14the double yeah yeah okay where molly and tyler are working up an appetite and these are to go yeah
29:20and that'll be a bit of salad right now that looks phenomenal it is you should try
29:24hmm here's your jerk chicken and here's your shrimp with coconut rice thank you they've got jerk chicken
29:33i'm so ready to taste it at the end of my shit this is all like the caribbean food that means so much
29:40to us you know it's food for the soul come on let me taste this
29:44oh hey load me up another one of those that is so good feel it whole now
29:56taste test go for it
30:00it's nice isn't it it's creamy it's nice that's unbelievable did you make this plantain yep pounded
30:05it myself i didn't know you could cook like that oh my god i never expected this to be of what it
30:12felt like in essentially central america no it definitely has that feel of acceptance
30:19in belize everyone's just blended it's in there yeah that feels quite special heritage and culture
30:25is super important to me i am jamaican and english i went to my nan and grandad's every weekend
30:32my granddad being the jamaica one and like i i was playing dominoes from a very young age i feel
30:37like that was my little connection to jamaica me and you we've always been able to relate when it
30:42comes to how we struggled growing up mixed race you were never black enough to belong and white enough
30:48to not take offense especially in the uk i always felt like i had to prove to people that i was mixed or
30:54i was um jamaican i'd walk down the street with my dad and people would look at us a bit funny and it
31:01was only when i got older that i realized they were just confused as to why like this mixed race
31:06man had like a blonde pale baby you know yeah my dad's size from jamaica but it was only until like
31:13i was in my teens did i start asking those sort of questions i always struggled with like identity and
31:19race because my mum and dad um sort of split when i was six months so my mum just brought me and my brother
31:27up on her own um in south london it was quite racist at some points i didn't see many other
31:36like when you look around i don't see really like many mixed race people around i was just intrigued
31:40every single time i'd go through like brixton or curious when i was curious i was like oh my days and
31:45that was it i definitely don't want my kids growing up having to question their identity they have to be
31:52sure who they are you know and i'm so proud to be a mixed race i feel like i've got the best of both worlds
31:59you know yeah oh i wish we could spend longer at the beach i know we've got a race to carry on with
32:09i love you babe i love you too
32:19adios thank you let's get out of here in guatemala the government has backed down
32:26and the protests have been called off the mood has changed keep that move all the way all the way
32:32come on dad we've got it so it's safe for the stranded teams to get back on the road
32:36all right race is back on oh man see here we go we're on the move all the way to quetzaltenango
32:47to make up for lost time anita and bal are spending big by taking a taxi
32:55avoiding the capital city still congested after the blockades they're heading 290 kilometers southwest
33:02to the city of quetzaltenango dad if all the roads in guatemala are like this it's gonna take us
33:10like two weeks to get out of here
33:15i mean it's like cramped 200 kilometers behind roman and harley moon sticking to the main road
33:22about 20 seats of us and about 50 people on here yeah but we're moving what's the name of where we're
33:28going i've forgotten already antigua traveling on local buses to save money they're aiming for antigua
33:36we just want to keep bolting it as far down as we can
33:44what's going on
33:48there's more blockages we're gonna have to walk
33:49where are we all right no idea where we are obviously because of all this strike stuff that's
33:58been going on this is what's been left over i knew it was going too well on that bus
34:04it was all a bit too easy i mean you can't make it up barbed wire on the floor
34:09i have never thought it would be this hard to get through a country it's wild as the siblings
34:25continue their journey on foot thank you my friend there is satisfying progress thank you
34:33take care for molly and tyler we need to hot step it as they take a nautical option to speed them
34:40across the caribbean sea to honduras this is an expensive boat but it comes at a cost we just need
34:47to get moving the fact we're going into a cheaper country i feel like it's gonna balance out i hope so

38:20honest i can feel it molly and tyler opting for restaurant service to refuel i love the fact that
38:27we can share food though me too let's go cheers we know we've probably spent the most of our
38:38budget so far on food we knew that from the start that that was going to be our um achilles heel
38:44so yeah slightly concerned about the budget
38:54lying on a major fault line in guatemala's western highlands
38:57quetzaltenango is rocked by over 100 earthquakes every year
39:04and one of the only buildings to have survived the seismic last century unscathed bar salon
39:09tecun there you go enjoy enjoy enjoy where anita and bal have picked up work
39:15to replenish their funds after their costly taxi how's that pine pulling coming along look at that
39:22that's not bad that well done dad one picture clara another one of these dad
39:29i think dad's in his element he absolutely loves it it's hectic but it's good fun
39:41i'm loving it i'm having a really really good time as well i think our personalities are quite
39:45suited to this environment it is well i worked bars when you were a little kid
39:52do you remember we lost our business yeah we lost the house we lost the factory
39:56uh we lost everything basically yeah so i went out i got a newspaper and got any job that's unveiled
40:02but starting immediately and there was job there for a a bower it was in a nightclub
40:08and it was collecting glasses so i said i'll take it
40:14it's quite a big deal though isn't it going from running a three-story business that you own
40:18so collecting glasses you've got to swallow your pride to earn that money
40:21i started a business in the rag trade 1982 and it took off but there was a recession coming
40:31and i became bankrupt actually and then we had to sell up everything we got to a point
40:37we couldn't afford a bus fare i do remember that i couldn't ask for anything but we didn't have
40:42anything we didn't have anything yeah it was hard as a man to not be able to earn an income for your
40:48family it was very very difficult it wasn't their fault this was my it was my problem that we want
40:54to give them the best regardless you and mom really protected me and you just got yourselves
41:00back on your feet otherwise you can't do we're never nothing but here we are now here we are yeah yeah
41:08never shared that sort of stuff never told them this is the type of job i'm doing because i didn't
41:13want to perceive their dad as a failure you know they want to still be proud of me i often think
41:19about what it must have felt like when they lost everything particularly for my dad and how that
41:25must have impacted him you know he's just remarkable i do see my dad as a superhuman there's a journey
41:33so same as this yeah if anything happens we'll we'll we'll push through it yeah
41:48i love an english fry up so if i can come here and taste the traditional fry up
41:52we're winning in honduras having sampled some of the best santa rosa de copan has to offer
41:58with a little watermelon smoothie molly and tyler are back on the move
42:04gaining ground the couple have the el salvador border on their sights
42:10we could be looking at checkpoint territory very soon
42:19this is like india dad come on we can deal with we can deal with the chaos in guatemala
42:24we really have to watch our backs here anita and bal hope to head towards el salvador from the west
42:32now all roads are clear of the protests
42:34guatemala city directo rapido y muy más barato you can go to here and this is costa 50 get us thank you
42:47170 kilometers to the southeast after battling through the remnants of the roadblocks roman and harley
42:54moon have made it all the way to antigua well there's a hotel i can see a sign on the corner yeah but
43:00there might be hostels as cheap as possible barato
43:06a unesco world heritage site renowned for its spanish colonial architecture its biggest draw
43:15volcán de fuego one of the most active volcanoes in the world
43:19trying to get a hostel now to get our bags off so we can actually enjoy walking around and actually
43:26having a look at the place as one of the busiest tourist spots in the country accommodation doesn't
43:31come cheap hotel there with a spa that would be nice that's a no
43:40right hostel hostel tropicana how much is a room the price is 400
43:48oh wow look we've got time i want to know the other prices but it's so thrifty
43:54what's that it's possible it's 30 cientos it's preferable oh no okay that didn't work
44:15but i want for the board unfortunately we don't have any space nothing now we are in high seasons
44:21so that's why you cannot find like a cheaper okay this is a nightmare if i was here with a friend
44:28i definitely would have spent five around there in a nice room
44:34over in rural honduras
44:40dylan and jackie are finishing off their work where does this go
44:44uh just back behind to pay for their bed and board with tobacco farmer don tulio and his family
44:51from four classes of tobacco like that's going to come to 4 4 oh goodness look this one tiller
44:57that's right amazing
45:00hmm you're gonna be a star
45:08it's just amazing to experience the warmth of the family and you sort of feed off their kindness and
45:14their energy this is thinking james would love this wouldn't he
45:21i reckon he'd be smoking up these cigars with me
45:25he'd love it it's just wonderful to experience it isn't it i agree and i think james would be proud of
45:31us yeah i think he would be as well yeah he was very close to james dylan was it's very rare now that
45:38we do talk about james which is sad really yes i think this will hopefully bring him to life a bit
45:47again in our souls on the edge i think losing james makes you reassess life and makes you think how precious
46:01life is this is an opportunity for me to grasp and live and enjoy perfecto perfecto
46:13dylan and i are on a different level now in confidence we've raised our game a hell of a
46:18lot since the first leg i think also he does quite like the young lady here
46:31it was nice um bonding with uh tanya she was showing me her socials i showed her some mine
46:40he loves you
46:41my mom tried to wing man me it's like all right that's too much that's too much like chill chill um

46:53janta rosa de copa yeah
46:56there to the border here the big thing is to try and get across the border yeah coming to honduras
47:02i think was the right decision it's been amazing
47:05i'm saving money we've made some connections
47:13i'm hoping we've gained ground i feel like we have
47:20okay such lovely people yeah really are
47:26yeah that's really upsetting me well just let it go back in antigua roman and harley moon have been
47:32searching for somewhere to stay for four hours oh here one day hotel let me just check
47:52great oh man don't be sorry you're okay
47:57that was quite testing i'm here to have an adventure with my brother we haven't had much
48:05adventure today stressing over five quid and wandering around in the boiling heat is not ideal old
48:13captain shoestrings has been keeping it tight you all right now i don't know i feel like i let us
48:22down you didn't let us down i'm disappointed just in myself you know like i think it's more out of
48:27fear do you know what i mean it's fear that we're going to run out of money and not be able to do this
48:31amazing trip like that's what i worry about well moving forward we can change our strategy of not
48:38having to panic about the money i guess sometimes making ourselves upset you know no matter what happens
48:46we're on this adventure together if we come last we come last if we run out of money we run out of money
48:59all right ready to start again yeah i mean i've never seen a volcano before in my life so that's
49:05that's pretty amazing i mean this is what it's about though really isn't it if i hadn't been looking
49:09for that hotel we probably would have gone up there by now you do know the border opened 18 minutes
49:23ago already yeah but we also need to eat i can't be going for a board across it with no food in my
49:28belly what's half an hour makes all different to the way every minute counts hmm just eight kilometers
49:37from the el salvador border molly and tyler are now the closest team to the second checkpoint
49:4364 minutes later than planned we went a little bit overboard on food this leg we can't afford a cab so
49:53we're walking the books just need to balance out it happens um where's the border
49:59hola frontera yeah yeah see a little 40-minute brisk walk in the morning i feel like we burn off the pancakes
50:1490 kilometers behind dylan and jackie we're trying to get to frontera el boy border
50:22there's a bit less while over in guatemala oh what's this coach dad what is that
50:31anita anita and bal trying to catch a ride to a western border crossing

50:52approaching el salvador also closing the gap roman and harley moon i would love if we were first
51:00honestly i can't call it anita and bal we're a day ahead yeah but we have been swift with our moves
51:07today i just have a good feeling but i don't want to dig sit yet because look at the traffic
51:12i think when we get over the border we can haggle a cab we have only spent ten dollars today
51:20it's just it's just how much they charge us the thing is the taxi was fifty dollars
51:26let's get us is this being told to learn from yesterday when to do it and when to not do it yeah
51:32it feels like one of those moments if we can do a taxi do taxes just do it
51:43is that a vulture there there are vultures circling us
51:48we're walking for two hours yeah read it down there said it was 40 minutes
51:57this is annoying come on
52:02oh see that time yeah that's our finish line welcome to el salvador el salvador we've made it
52:09molly and tyler's lengthy trek to the border
52:14the pacific coastline has given others a chance to catch up as all four teams are now in el salvador
52:23i'm starting to get butterflies then we're gonna be fast
52:26that's not it you never know they might all have disasters and we are first this feels worth it
52:35turn the taxi my gut tells me this was the right idea we're getting there fast which is good anything
52:41towards bala and anita i'll take right now we're done good
52:51where ocean swells crash into volcanic sands
52:55the sleepy surf town of el zonte on the pacific coast
52:58oh my god and the team's second checkpoint
53:07come on let's go here we go
53:08got it oh we got one right here we go on foot enter el zonte via entrada dos

54:26i knew the compass would come in handy yeah that's west wherever the sunset and that food smells
54:32unbelievable doesn't it i'm so hungry now hey rock so west is that way bird carved into the rock
54:39come on come on dad let's let's pick up the pace a bit

55:55race across guatemala and every road being shut down thank you very much i think we're a brilliant
56:00team i'm ready for the next one
56:04oh well done damn they're still ahead of us we made up a lot of time became seconds that's pretty good
56:14yeah do you know what we got through a national strike we've closed the gap which feels like a
56:19victory biggest challenge of this leg for me definitely was deciding
56:23when to be frugal and when to race and i think you helped me a lot you know during this leg
56:31there's a gate up there i think it could be on these stairs
56:38we made it babe
56:38oh my gosh we could have caught them oh what the hell that's amazing it's bittersweet third
57:01place again i'm gonna put my hands up i said let's have breakfast yeah yeah that could have been the
57:07pivotal moment give us a hug yeah i'd say that anita and bal have maintained pole position but their
57:1523-hour lead is now down to three and a half and just 22 minutes separates the other teams
57:22we came fourth again but we we're gonna get rude about it because we're so close we could literally
57:29hold them back as they're trying to leave i think what we did right in this leg is we spoke to more
57:34people you definitely gained confidence in yourself on this second leg i think yeah
57:44wow we're going to honduras baby
57:49i feel like i'm in jurassic park dad this is so cool all right in the midst of anxiety we have jumped
57:56off the bar i feel like death we might be ahead of everyone come on he's just asked us to push
58:03the bus was that the most attractive thing you've ever seen me do yeah it was pretty fit
58:07oh we're gonna win the race mustn't give up dylan yeah there's no hotel here so now what
