00:01This is mad.
00:03At a time where young and old have never been further apart...
00:06I'm going the wrong way.
00:08..six young Brits who have never travelled alone before...
00:11This is nothing like Wales.
00:13..have been paired up with six pensioners
00:15who thought they would never travel again...
00:17He's my teammate.
00:18..to embark on an epic treasure hunt across Japan.
00:21Oh, yes!
00:23Bloody hell, this is going to be hard.
00:25..in a social experiment to challenge assumptions...
00:28..and prove that age is just a number.
00:31She's a bit too old.
00:32I beg your pardon.
00:33..they will need to work together as one.
00:36Colin, you're amazing!
00:38..so far, six teams across two generations
00:41have been on a life-affirming journey.
00:43Ooh!
00:44He found a secret door.
00:46Combining their experience...
00:48What?
00:49..and embracing their age gap...
00:51You're right, it's just like riding a bike.
00:53..they've navigated challenges across the country.
00:55Oh!
00:56Never quite seen anything like it.
00:58Now, three teams remain to face two final challenges...
01:02..testing how much they've learned about each other...
01:04..and their time in Japan.
01:06The games are just getting harder and harder.
01:08It's too hard, yeah, easy, yeah.
01:10..but only one will win the competition...
01:13..and share a £50,000 cash prize.
01:16It's mad. It's mad, to be honest.
01:19..Japan's northernmost island,
01:21and a world away from the bustling cities they've visited so far.
01:23You feeling nervous?
01:24Well, I am.
01:25I mean, we've got to do well, this one.
01:27I'm not ready to come home yet.
01:28Oh, no.
01:29Oh, me!
01:30Steaked in nature and ancient traditions,
01:32it's the last stop on the journey for three remaining teams.
01:36I'm saying there's only two other teams left apart from us.
01:38I know!
01:39So, we have to make the most of the time that we do have.
01:41For sure.
01:42It's been absolutely lovely seeing all these places in Japan.
01:44Yeah, no, for sure.
01:45But for me, the nicest part has been getting to know you.
01:48The winners of the lightest match, you will.
01:50It's so far.
01:51I'm not ready to go home yet.
01:52You will.
01:53Not ready to go home yet.
01:54Oh, no.
01:55Oh, me!
01:56Steaked in nature and ancient traditions,
01:58it's the last stop on the journey for three remaining teams.
02:01There's only two other teams left apart from us.
02:02I know!
02:03So, we have to make the most of the time that we do have.
02:05For sure!
02:06It's been absolutely lovely seeing all these places in Japan.
02:08The winners of the life-changing prize will be the pair who've bridged their age gap and worked together the best.
02:13I can smell it. I can smell the £50,000.
02:18I don't have savings really at all. So like, yeah, in terms of like winning something like this, it would be completely life-changing.
02:24Following clues, they'll need to hunt down their tasks to win a possible five coins.
02:30Find the Onsen's Beach.
02:32All along, I've wanted to win for Katie's sake. So I've just got to do my best for her.
02:39Every decision the teammates make will be crucial, as the pair with the least amount of coins at the end of their next challenge will leave the competition,
02:48leaving just two teams to face the final challenge.
02:52There is a lot of pressure on this game. I just hope that today is not the end of our journey.
02:58I don't know what we're doing here.
03:03Where are we?
03:04I don't know. We're in a jungle, I think.
03:06I'm a bit worried about what's going to jump out of these bushes.
03:09Yeah, me too.
03:11One couple determined to remain in the running is 73-year-old Colin and 25-year-old Charlotte.
03:18Oh, it's buzzing.
03:19Welcome to Setozi, where you would take a canoe down the river.
03:23Hmm. Have we seen any river?
03:26We must be in the right place.
03:27Yeah, we have to.
03:28Let's go and have a look.
03:29So far in the competition, Charlotte's relied on her senior teammates' memory and life experience to carry them through to the final.
03:37Right, Carl, I can see canoes.
03:40Colin is so wise.
03:42Like, honestly, because I thought 60-plus was ancient.
03:45I thought they couldn't do too much.
03:47That's very ignorant of me, because it's just opened my mind massively.
03:51Can you see our pin?
03:52I don't think I would have made it as far if it was just me.
03:55Do you want me to go in the front?
03:58Yes.
03:59You sure?
04:00Yeah.
04:01This could be a disaster.
04:06Am I supposed to be paddling?
04:07Yes.
04:07I feel like you guys are doing all the work.
04:09Yeah.
04:10Oh.
04:14It's a deer.
04:15Oh, a deer!
04:17A fluffy bum.
04:18I'll just miss this experience so much.
04:21It's just opened my mind massively.
04:22I was so scared to do solo travelling, but I've learned so much from Colin that I think he's
04:27given me the confidence to do that, because he is so adventurous.
04:31Well, this is nice, isn't it?
04:33I'm in a wonderful place, seeing things that I'd never have done before.
04:38Every day has just been a dream.
04:39When I was a kid, I lived near a lake, and we used to hire canoes.
04:45Did you?
04:46And I'd go out and spend the day in a canoe.
04:48Oh, my gosh.
04:48I'm talking, what, 60 years ago, and I haven't done it since, but this just brings it all back
04:54to me.
04:54But in 60 years ago, you went on that bike, remember, and then that came back to you in
04:58the first.
04:58Yeah, same thing.
04:59Yeah.
05:00I've always taken chances and grabbed opportunities, and I'm not going to stop.
05:04I think age is just something that you feel that you are.
05:10I got a message.
05:12Go to Jozanki.
05:14Get ready for a rendezvous.
05:16Yeah, with a woman by the river side.
05:19What the hell?
05:19Let's go to Jozanki.
05:20Yeah, let's go to Jozanki.
05:2448 kilometres away, 68-year-old Rosie and 24-year-old Lawrence have also been embracing
05:31their time together in Japan.
05:34Oh, from the beginning in Tokyo to here, myself and Rosie are great at communicating.
05:40We get along really well, you know.
05:42There's something fishy on.
05:44Claw your way to Katano Gurumi to meet the king of crabs.
05:48Oh.
05:49Most of my preconceptions about young people was to do with them not taking in their surroundings.
05:56But Lawrence is not really like that.
05:59He's like a sponge.
06:00He just wants all the knowledge we can learn.
06:04He just wants to soak it all up.
06:07There's crabs everywhere.
06:09Oh, it really stinks.
06:11Oh, they have them live there as well, man.
06:14Oh, no, look, they've got them in their hands.
06:17Look, look, look, look, look, look, look.
06:19It's moving, it's moving, it's moving, it's moving, it's moving, it's moving.
06:21Oh, my God.
06:25After following their clue, the duo have tracked down their challenge location to the city's
06:30famous crab market.
06:32What is it?
06:33Seen something?
06:34Found the...
06:35Oh, well spotted.
06:36The team-mates will have to pay attention to everything they're being shown.
06:40Would you like to know what kind they are?
06:42Yes, please, yes.
06:44As they will be tested on the vast array of seafood for sale.
06:48This is the hairy crab, known for the delicious crab gut.
06:53The crab gut.
06:55Good.
06:55I adore crab.
06:57I would say it's one of my favourite things to eat.
07:00So this is 100 grams, 2,000 yen.
07:02Hairy crab is the most expensive.
07:05Oh, man.
07:07This is the short-haired sea urchin.
07:10It's very tasty.
07:11And very expensive.
07:12Yes.
07:13Oh, 9,000 yen is for 100 grams.
07:16Yes.
07:16Yes.
07:17Wow.
07:18I do know that Lawrence is not keen on seafood, and when I said I like crab, the look on his
07:24face was all too disgust.
07:26So this is a king crab.
07:2818,000 per kilo.
07:30Please hold around the legs.
07:34Wow, it's huge.
07:37Look at this one's eyes.
07:40He's eyeballing you.
07:43Rosie really likes crabs, so if it's something we have to eat, I will try a crab, but obviously,
07:47you know, at the same time, it's, yeah, it's crab.
07:49Oh, man.
07:50Yeah, I really don't like crab.
07:54Excuse me, sir.
07:57I don't suppose you know where an onsen is.
07:59Onsen?
08:01Onsen's beach.
08:02Onsen.
08:03So, onsen beach.
08:04Maybe you can go here.
08:07Okay.
08:07Arigato gozaimasu.
08:08Oh, it's beautiful.
08:11Oh, it's beautiful.
08:12Beautiful.
08:14I'm not going to forget this.
08:16Pin.
08:17Have you spotted that?
08:18Having hunted down their clue, 80-year-old Barbara and 21-year-old Katie have tracked down
08:25their challenge location to one of Hokkaido's ancient hot springs, known as an onsen.
08:31It's supposed to be so relaxing, good for the skin.
08:36As well as being pampered, the teammates will need to pay attention to the strict rules and
08:41etiquette that have been observed for over a thousand years.
08:44This is the changing room, dark blue, that's for men.
08:49The red-coloured one is for women.
08:51As they will be tested on their immersive experience later.
08:55Now, swimming, jumping or diving in the water.
09:01Traditionally, men and women bath are separate.
09:04The whole point of going to onsen is just getting relaxed.
09:09The pair have been allowed to wear swimsuits to experience this ritual treatment, but visitors
09:15to the onsen are usually required to bathe naked.
09:19Have you done under your arms?
09:20I can smell you from here.
09:22What did you say?
09:23I can smell you from here.
09:25I'm going to kill you.
09:28Honestly.
09:29I think the relationship definitely is like, we are besties.
09:32And she has kind of filled in those little pieces that fell out when my nan passed away.
09:40I don't think I could do this with other people my age unless I knew them.
09:45I can feel quite comfortable doing it with you.
09:49So this is outside bath onsen.
09:53And this volcanic water is especially good for your black circulation.
09:57Right, be careful.
09:58It's slippery, slippery.
09:58I'll get out, darling.
09:59I reckon if I didn't have you as a partner, I probably wouldn't have got so far.
10:06Oh, you would, Katie.
10:07Like, if you are.
10:08I wouldn't have got so far without you, believe me.
10:11No, we're very much similar.
10:13We are.
10:13And I think we've got each other through this.
10:15Yes.
10:16I feel like every day with Barbara is a life lesson, so I'm kind of learning each day
10:20what I am capable of, and Barbara's kind of taught me that I can be confident, and not
10:25confident for other people, but confident for myself.
10:28And this trip is quite honestly, it's a godsend for you.
10:33It's just going to broaden your horizons.
10:36I'm convinced of it.
10:38Oh, this is beautiful.
10:51Having followed their clue downriver, Colin and Charlotte have finally tracked down the
10:55Jozanki Forest, an area deeply connected with Hokkaido's indigenous Ainu people, who would
11:02traditionally use certain plants to help heal the body.
11:05Amazing.
11:06We love nature, don't we, Carl?
11:07We do, yes.
11:09Just like the other two teams, they'll have to absorb everything they see and hear in
11:14their foraging lesson before being tested on which plants can be used for certain conditions
11:19later.
11:20It's a memory game.
11:21But we're good at those, aren't we?
11:23Yeah.
11:23Yeah, definitely.
11:25This is noia.
11:26Noia.
11:27If you have a battery, we use this.
11:29Huss, huss, huss.
11:32This is elmovina.
11:33Very good for the hangover, too.
11:35Good for the hangover.
11:36Amazing.
11:37Your reputation has preceded you.
11:39I know.
11:41This book, Anto, a long time ago, people used to have a tapeworms problem.
11:46Oh, really?
11:48Constipation.
11:49Constipation.
11:50Amazing.
11:52This is shooky now.
11:53It's a little bit sweet.
11:55Oh, yes, it is.
11:56Find and identify the plants which match the descriptions.
12:03For each correctly found and matched plant, you will receive a coin.
12:07Right.
12:08We're going to have to retrace our steps, aren't we?
12:10I think we are.
12:11Go back to locations.
12:12It'll rejog our memories.
12:14Yeah.
12:14I thought the first one was very small leaves like this, but I don't know.
12:23They just look the same, don't they?
12:24That's what's so hard about it.
12:27I'm not feeling too confident about this one.
12:29It was that, the hangover one was.
12:33Oh, so that one might not be it then.
12:35No.
12:36We noticed this is stressful for us because we're not cracking jokes.
12:40We want to be here and we've loved every minute of it and every stage and we want to keep going.
12:47I don't know.
12:48Back at the onsen, Barbara and Katie are about to be tested on their immersive hot spring experience.
13:01Okey-doke.
13:02In order to win coins, they'll need to try and recall which facts about the onsen are true and which are false.
13:11Red curtains indicate women's changing rooms.
13:17Yes, I think that's true.
13:18Yeah, I think that's true.
13:19Yes!
13:21Congratulations!
13:22Yes!
13:22Come on!
13:23I do look up to Barbara.
13:26She's living her life to her fullest and she isn't taking it for granted and that's how I want to be.
13:31Onsens help with blood circulation.
13:34Yes!
13:35Oh, God bless you!
13:36Yes!
13:37I'm definitely going to try and keep up the contact that she is family now.
13:42Shake hands with fellow onsen visitors when in the water.
13:45Yeah.
13:46I've not heard anything about shaking her hands.
13:48I feel like that would have been something that would have come up.
13:51I'm not going to lie.
13:54How are you feeling on that one?
14:00Difficult to say because you and I, there was only you and I in there.
14:05We're both two visitors, aren't we, so wouldn't we have to get in there and shake hands?
14:11Can we lock in false for this one?
14:12Well, let's be having you!
14:16Men and women can only share an onsen at dusk.
14:20I think this one is false.
14:23False.
14:24Another one.
14:27My relationship with Katie has been incredible.
14:31She has proved, and I hope I've proved to her, that young generation, old generation,
14:40they can have a bond.
14:42No doubt about it.
14:43My God.
14:45Is it illegal to fart underwater in an onsen?
14:50Do you think it's illegal?
14:52Like, it might be wrong, but I don't know whether it's illegal.
14:57Well, how would they know?
15:01They've got to prove you farted underwater.
15:05It wouldn't stand off in court.
15:07Oh, my God, I can't cope.
15:12So, lock in false.
15:14Lock in false.
15:15Come on.
15:19I'm never felt so happy in my life.
15:25To get five is just fantastic.
15:29I'm nervous that someone else might have got five,
15:32but I am excited to see whether we shall be in the final.
15:39Back in Chuo, after soaking up the crab market...
15:42So, this is 100 grams, 2,000 yen.
15:45Hairy crab is the most expensive.
15:49Rosie and Lawrence now have to put their new seafood knowledge to the test.
15:53How are you feeling?
15:55Not good.
15:57To have a chance of making it through to the final,
15:59they'll need to identify five types of seafood they saw in the market
16:03and match them to the correct price point.
16:07I'll try one, maybe.
16:11Crab is delicious, honestly.
16:13It's your favourite, isn't it?
16:14You were saying about this the other day.
16:16I'm a mum and a grandma.
16:18I've always encouraged all my family to try new things.
16:21You must try this.
16:23And I just say to them, try it once.
16:25If you don't like it, that's fine.
16:26But don't say you don't like it without trying it.
16:30Oh, man, I don't even want to do it.
16:32It's delicious.
16:33Oh, it's chewy.
16:37Ugh.
16:38There's a lot of pressure on, kind of, the games itself.
16:41I'm, like, I didn't want to let Rosie down, you know.
16:43So I had to put myself into it to try it.
16:46What about the octopus?
16:51No.
16:52You don't like that one?
16:54It tastes like rubber.
16:55What do you think about this one?
16:57You want to try this one?
16:58No, definitely not.
16:59I can't try that, Rosie.
17:01It looks like a slug.
17:03Just stick it in your mouth and give it a go.
17:08Oh, man.
17:10I cannot.
17:12I've never had something so horrid in my mouth.
17:15Yeah.
17:15Having tasted the seafood, the duo now need to rank the octopus, hairy crab, sea urchin, king crab and whelk in order of price.
17:26Tell me your thoughts.
17:28I think that this one is the 42.
17:30I'm, like, fairly confident on this one being there.
17:35And then I think the 9,000 would go for the king crab because it was expensive but not quite as expensive as the hairy crab.
17:44Shall we put them in place and then we can move them around so we can have a visual?
17:48So 10 here, wasn't it?
17:49Yes.
17:51The hairy crab was the most expensive of the three crabs.
17:54Oh, my, my, my...
17:55Discuset, the king.
17:58And these whelks, they were quite cheap.
18:00So if you've got any better ideas, let me know.
18:04The whelks and the octopus, I'm not sure if it's the other way around.
18:08I went with my gu... the first time and I don't know if it's the other way around.
18:13Rosie had doubts.
18:15I had doubts, you know.
18:16I don't think these were 42,000.
18:20I didn't want to say something and we get it wrong and be the cause of, like, us going home, you know.
18:24I'm fairly confident about three and I'm just being a thingy.
18:28But then I think that's good.
18:29And obviously, Rosie the same.
18:31If you're confident, I'm happy to go with this.
18:33I'm not confident.
18:35I did want to switch the two outside to the opposite.
18:40And then I remembered that I'd suggested that before and we were wrong.
18:45Shall we lock in?
18:45Yes, let's lock in.
18:58In Hokkaido, Japan's northern frontier, three remaining teams are battling it out to win 50,000 pounds.
19:05This is for Aito.
19:07People used to have, like, a pay-for-arms problem.
19:09The couple with the least amount of coins at the end of this challenge will be eliminated from the competition.
19:16So everything now rests on the outcome of Lawrence and Rosie's seafood task and Charlotte and Colin's foraging challenge.
19:24Take worms.
19:25That looks like it, yeah.
19:26Do you think?
19:27Yeah.
19:27Having been shown all five different plants in their foraging lesson, the pair are still struggling to remember which plants match which descriptions.
19:37Oh, God, I hope we're right.
19:38But she also said that was very sweet and sour.
19:41Am I overthinking that?
19:43Yeah, I think we'll swap that over.
19:46We'll take a chance with that.
19:47Yeah.
19:48An easier constipation?
19:51I think that's correct.
19:54I don't know.
19:54I don't know, sir.
19:57That's our best guess.
20:00All we can do is hope.
20:01Yeah.
20:04Are you ready for the result?
20:06I think so.
20:07Yes.
20:07I'm scared.
20:09Good for a hangover?
20:12Yes.
20:13Oh, great.
20:14I got one right.
20:16Got one.
20:16Oh, God.
20:17Oh, I'm feeling better already.
20:19The money's not that important to me.
20:21For Charlotte, though, she said if she won, the first thing she'd do is buy her mum a mobility scooter.
20:27Shakina, sweet enough to eat?
20:31Yes.
20:32Yay!
20:33That would mean more to me than me winning any money.
20:36Well done, Carl.
20:36I'm glad we changed it from the other one.
20:38Yeah.
20:39I'd just love to see her that happy.
20:42No, yeah?
20:43Cleanse your nightmare.
20:45No.
20:47OK.
20:47Yes.
20:48All right.
20:48Enter, get rid of the tapeworms.
20:52Yes.
20:53Yes.
20:53Oh, great.
20:55Good for this.
20:59Yes.
21:00That's four.
21:01I know.
21:02Oh, come here.
21:03Oh.
21:05It's not four.
21:06Four?
21:07Oh, that's brilliant.
21:08Oh, I'm so happy.
21:10I know.
21:11I don't know anyone could get four.
21:12I think we've had help from the gods.
21:14Yeah.
21:16Do you want to get four?
21:17Don't buy this.
21:18Poor.
21:19Thank you so much.
21:21I think, unless someone gets five, I think we've done enough to get through.
21:27Yeah, I really think so.
21:31Having struggled to recall the price of each type of seafood...
21:34Shall we lock in?
21:35Yes, let's lock in.
21:37...Rosie and Lawrence have finally committed to a decision.
21:39They'll need to win at least four coins to secure a place in the final.
21:45Correct.
21:50Correct.
21:55Correct.
21:56You were right.
22:01Correct.
22:02Yes.
22:02Yes.
22:03Yes.
22:03You're kidding.
22:04Yes.
22:04Yes.
22:05Yes.
22:05You're kidding.
22:06Really?
22:06I've never jumped up like that after a challenge, you know?
22:08I thought he wasn't going to put them two down.
22:09I thought that was it, you know, because he skipped them.
22:11When that fifth coin went down, I just could have hit the roof.
22:16Oh, my God.
22:18Wow.
22:18I want to scream, but I can't scream.
22:20I'm in a fish market.
22:21Thank you so much.
22:22It just means that we've got a fighting chance, a good fighting chance, to get to the final.
22:29Congratulations.
22:31Thank you so much.
22:32Thank you so much.
22:46Having done all they can, all three teams must now come together to find out which two couples have made it through to the final.
22:54Wow. Here we are again.
22:56I know.
22:57With no idea of how many coins their rivals have won,
23:01Colin and Charlotte are first to arrive.
23:04Glad.
23:05Four.
23:06Well, it worked out okay in the end.
23:07It did, yeah.
23:08Just if it's good enough.
23:09I feel confident, which I have right from day one in this.
23:12Good.
23:13That's what you said.
23:14When we got together, I said, we're going to win this.
23:15Yeah.
23:16Hello, guys.
23:17How are you guys?
23:18How are you doing?
23:19Yeah, good. You all right?
23:20Yeah, not too bad.
23:21Good.
23:22How do you feel?
23:23To be honest, I didn't think that we'd make it so far, you know?
23:25Yeah.
23:26Like, considering, obviously, our kind of rough start at the beginning.
23:28Yeah.
23:29We've just said that from the beginning, we're going to the final,
23:32and we're going to take the money home.
23:33And that's never, it's never varied.
23:35So how did you do this time?
23:37Wow.
23:38So.
23:39One.
23:40You've got two.
23:43You've got three.
23:46Four.
23:47Did you get them all?
23:49And five.
23:50Well done, Laura.
23:51Wow.
23:52Oh, my God.
23:53Five.
23:54You're in the final.
23:55You're in the lead.
23:56Oh, no.
23:57We were just hoping that the last pair...
23:59Add four or less.
24:00Yeah.
24:01The last couple to reveal their hand are 80-year-old Barbara and 21-year-old Katie.
24:07Oh, well done.
24:09You've done well.
24:10Yeah.
24:11What was that?
24:12Five coins again?
24:13They're the comeback kids, these two.
24:15I know.
24:16We certainly are.
24:17And four.
24:18Hey, that's good, that.
24:19What?
24:20Come on, Katie.
24:21Let's be having you.
24:23It's the first time that I've not felt confident.
24:26All the way through this competition, I've been confident.
24:32One.
24:35Two.
24:36Did so well.
24:38Yeah.
24:39Three.
24:42Four.
24:49Five.
24:50Oh, well done.
24:51Well done.
24:52Well done.
24:53Guys, honestly, well done.
24:54Thank you very much.
24:56Well done.
24:57Colin and Charlotte, you have the lowest number of coins.
25:02Please say goodbye to your fellow travellers.
25:05This is where your adventure ends.
25:08It's been amazing, guys.
25:10Not to say we're in shock, but we are.
25:14It's like a kick to the gut, really, isn't it?
25:16It is, yeah.
25:17Because we actually thought we were going to win.
25:19Well, yeah.
25:20Not to took our own horns or anything, but we did, didn't we?
25:23All the way through the competition, we thought we were going to win.
25:25It's hard to say goodbye.
25:27I wanted to stay and be part of it, but it was so worth it.
25:31Yeah, it really was.
25:32To come here.
25:33Yeah.
25:34And experience everything I have, see the places I've seen,
25:38meet the people I've met.
25:40I lost my son five years ago, and he was a traveller.
25:45He would have been so proud of me for coming out today.
25:47Of course he would.
25:48Drop of a hat.
25:49Of course he would, Carl.
25:50And he's with me all the time.
25:51He is.
25:52Of course he is.
25:53Every so proud of you, Carl.
25:54So, so proud.
25:55Very proud of you.
25:57One thing that stands out for me is, I had this preconceived idea before I came,
26:04that young people, they think of older people as something that's no longer needed.
26:10Charlotte here, she's really made me realise that not all young people are like that.
26:15No.
26:16And the future now is a lot better because of girls like this.
26:20He's taught me so much, do you know what I mean?
26:24Going back a different person.
26:25Good.
26:26Because of you.
26:27Is this the final two teams?
26:30Yes.
26:31Oh.
26:32Lawrence and Rosie, Katie and Barbara, congratulations.
26:40You have made it to the final and one team will win 50,000 pounds.
26:48Wow.
26:49The teammates with the highest coin count at the final will win.
26:56Wow.
26:57First, you must prove how well you know your team mate.
27:07In solo challenges.
27:10That's it, we've got this.
27:12Good luck, darling.
27:14In a last twist to the competition.
27:17Get my skates on and head to Keita.
27:20The remaining finalists will have to navigate solo challenges without their team mates.
27:25It's time to make arrangements at Shiroi Shiku.
27:30They'll need to demonstrate how much they've learned about each other on their journey before
27:34reuniting to compete in one final task.
27:37Does this go to Junoshi?
27:39For the team mates who win the highest number of coins, a life changing 50,000 pound cash prize awaits.
27:45Feels quite lonely without Lawrence.
27:48Excuse me.
27:50Sorry.
27:51See you sometimes.
27:52Absolutely,vertime.
27:53Bye, Rae.
27:54Yeah.
27:55Marina.
27:56Yeah, love you.
27:57in Hokkaido two intergenerational teams have reached the final stages of a life-changing
28:07treasure hunt across Japan I'm sweating but the competition is about to get even tougher as the
28:16teammates have been separated for the first time since they met doing this on my own it's got
28:22wrenching in their first ever solo challenge do you know this area what they've learned about each
28:28other on their journey will be put to the test it's really different like being apart from Rosie
28:33you know this is like the first time kind of just me as they'll each be asked questions to see how
28:38well they really know their teammate I don't know how Barbara's getting on I reckon she's probably
28:43got someone pushing her around in my a wheelbarrow or something to the place she needs to go oh we're
28:48off with five possible coins on offer skate park hot bone and there's a pin every answer will prove
28:56costly oh in the hunt to win 50,000 pounds there's a gold pin on the machine this must be the right
29:05place I have a great place pop in to drop a nosey I don't want to see him that I'm really in my comfort
29:16zone when I'm with Katie but today I'm on my own I've got to get on with it all four teammates will
29:24be asked five questions about their partners I don't know everything about Lawrence I know I've
29:30learned a lot about him but no matter how long you've known somebody you don't always know as
29:36much as you perhaps think you do for every fact they get right they'll win a coin and be one step
29:43closer to winning the competition Katie talks to me ever such a lot so let's hope I know a lot about
29:52it where does Katie live witness or Warrington Katie lives in Warrington nice which air can Barbara here
30:05out of the way I remember this is because Barbara's always right it is her right here oh I thought I
30:16have an awful man what pet does Lawrence have I do happen to know that it is a guinea pig it's the
30:24first time that I've done a solo game and it's so much easier when there's two of you what is
30:32Rosie's favorite band we spoke about this mmm Iron Maiden for sure right yes working with Rosie the last few
30:43weeks has been like amazing you know getting to know her she's like a best friend I really can't
30:48remember any mention of a cello so I am going to go with piano not only I'm learning a lot about
30:53myself but a lot about Rosie as well oh my word forget what is the name of Barbara's late husband
31:03Colin or key answer is Colin Katie for the win what word does Lawrence use for cool I know it's dope what
31:17did Rosie describe herself as when she was a kid I'm gonna say tomboy what village was Barbara living she
31:24lived in Kimber Katie has a tattoo of what on her ankle I think it's bird oh wonderful with both
31:38Barbara and Rosie winning a maximum of five coins their junior teammates have one last question each
31:44to try and match their scores the last one's gonna be the hardest haha what is the name of Barbara's cat
31:53Kate you're cooking Barbara's cat is Katie hahaha five coins okay off the last one what is Rosie's late
32:10husband's name Hank or Frank Frank no oh I was so sure I feel like I let Rosie down in a way you know
32:30I know how much her husband meant to Rosie obviously that's one of the things that we've spoke about quite
32:34often and quite a lot and it's important it is so yeah it's quite sad really the teams must now
32:41reunite to reveal how many coins they've each one and we'll be rolling over to their final challenge in
32:47Japan awaiting them is the awe-inspiring Hill of the Buddha built in 2015 architect Tadao Ando
33:01surrounded the pre-existing stone statue with a hill-like mound to partially conceal the Buddha and
33:07integrate the spiritual shrine with nature for the two remaining teams it's where they'll compete for
33:15the final time to win the competition and a life-changing prize winning the 50k would mean that my big
33:25dream of having all of my children my grandchildren my great-grandson all on holiday at the same time could
33:33come true I've had a charmed life but Katie hasn't and this money it could change her life for the better
33:42the time has come I know dear one with five coins each to Barbara and Rosie have secured the maximum
33:54score for their respective teams I am actually so proud of myself for coming on this I've proven to
34:00everyone that I can manage it I've not panicked this is just the start of discovering myself and I mean
34:07that's what the 25k will go it might even help me to set up my own business Bob for five coins I'm so
34:14proud of you oh well thank you what you got another five coins from Katie takes their team score to ten
34:22that's the best time that anybody has filled that box I didn't think I would get this far in the show
34:35in life in general we're in the finals you know so from here it can either go two ways if I go home
34:41with 50,000 pounds with Rosie or not you know hello guys hello Lawrence how are we all oh goodness see all
34:50these coins never seen it like that I guess I better put mine down then yes there's two three and
35:00there's just four unfortunately the one question it was like your late husband's name and it was Hank or
35:10Frank and like I was so sure to Frank Frank I can quite understand because I do talk about Frank a
35:16lot just well done thank you I was very surprised that the one slip up but that can happen to any
35:25of us this is as kind of tense as it's been really isn't it yeah having been tested all across Japan the
35:35teams will compete one more time in their final challenge good luck guys at the base of the Buddha
35:43are 20 bowls each placed above a plinth displaying a true or false statement about Japan but only 10 of
35:50the statements are correct Barbara we're gonna have to have a lot of faith in each one yeah yeah a lot of
35:56faith come on they'll need to call on all they've learnt about Japan during their epic adventure if they
36:03select a true statement they'll find a coin to add to their total if they make a mistake their game will
36:10end and they'll be unable to win any more coins all we've got to do is get one more than the other team
36:17that's all we've got today with coins rolling over from the solo games the team with the highest number
36:23of coins at the end of their final challenge will win the competition and split 50,000 pounds we are a
36:30slight disadvantage due to being one coin behind ah do you see any of that stand out they're quite
36:38difficult man I'll go up you wait there cherry blossoms are considered a national symbol of Japan
36:46I think that one's a definite mine and Barbara's strategy is process of elimination so we're gonna
36:54choose the ones that we definitely know do you want to do that one yeah one coin the white in
37:06Buddhism would be mine and is Tokyo Japan's oldest city or the cells more adult nappies and baby nappies
37:13I don't know that one could be quite possible Japan sells more adult nappies and baby nappies I
37:22actually know that one yes yes yes in traditional Japanese weddings a groom wears a black kimono that's
37:34right yeah fingers crossed oh Barbara you're amazing do we know what grooms wear at weddings
37:44and which one should we start with yes often in white Buddhism signifies purity clarity and knowledge
37:52oh okay Tokyo is the most populated city in the world true yeah that's a good stuff it is a good
38:09start it's that first challenge our communication has just grown and grown and our bond has just
38:16grown and grown and that has certainly helped us to get more and more coins each time eating KFC is a
38:23popular Christmas tradition in Japan yeah right I know that one's true yeah do you yeah I think that is
38:35true but maybe we hold it up for now Tokyo is Japan's oldest city I think it's quite modern Tokyo I don't
38:45think it is what about those at the back the Imperial Palace is located in Tokyo yes oh wait a bit
38:54ah shall we do the Buddha one this one here yeah I think so yeah yes okay so another one that you're
39:06fairly sure on the fugu puffer fish is a poisonous fish that is prepared as a delicacy in Japan I'm fairly
39:12certain on the puffer fish yeah yes that's good move on a bit done all of this one we'll go through this
39:20line that I'm on here and then we'll move up again so don't think about this bottom line yeah
39:24we've done that one I'm getting confused Katie please bear with me no I'm getting confused just let me
39:30concentrate on that Tokyo is Japan's oldest city bear with me I don't know we don't get that right we're
39:41eliminated in Hokkaido the grand finale of an epic treasure hunt to win 50,000 pounds is reaching its
39:57climax Tokyo is the most populated city in the world it is putting everything they've learned on their
40:04journey to one final test two teams are trying to work out which statements about Japan are true
40:10so Bento is a traditional Japanese packed lunch for every correct answer they'll win another coin
40:17but if they are incorrect their game will immediately come to an end that's got to be true
40:23with coins rolling over from their solo games Rosie and Lawrence are on a combined total of 12
40:29yes while Katie and Barbara are still in the lead with 14 I know that one's true
40:37how do you know I get stuck in little wormholes
40:44you sure I'm not but I've got to rely on you you've got to rely on me are you sure of any more no just this
40:53one go on then darling
41:00you little demon she's a bright girl how did you know that she's amazing she is I'm so lucky to have her
41:09coyote was the capital of Japan I think that that could probably be true yes I'm inclined to think that
41:17that is true to Terry blossoms true I'm I believe so winning something like this it would be completely
41:27life-changing and it would definitely make life a lot different um probably a lot easier as well
41:32in so many ways feng shui what's feng shui
41:37yeah
41:39feng shui is positioning of furniture and this that the other to get calmness and well-mindedness
41:52I think that that's very Japanese yeah no Tony should we go with should we go with feng shui
41:58yeah so feng shui originated in Japan
42:03I think that's true are we locking it in yeah
42:09feng shui originated in Japan
42:19it's incorrect
42:23no Barbara it's a no
42:29we got it wrong yeah
42:33ah
42:34oh I fluffed that for you don't worry it's fine
42:39Barbara stop being so negative
42:47okay so that's us finished
42:53well we're done anyway we're doing good we'll do
42:55we started off in like a so you can say like a rocky start you know there was many that kind of did
43:01take me by surprise feng shui I thought it was Japanese we both thought it was Japanese yeah we
43:07were wrong but I'm hoping we've done enough we've done our best but I do feel that um it's in the
43:14it's in the lap of the gods now
43:18you've done your best and I'm proud of you we've got this far you should be so proud of yourself
43:23well I've let you down no you haven't look no you haven't I'm serious now I'm deadly serious
43:31I fluffed it I completely fluffed it at some point we was going to get the question wrong anyways
43:38I don't want
43:42well
43:44you're a positive thinker Katie it's a gift I'll tell you
43:55unaware of how their rivals have done the teams must now come together to reveal their results
44:00hi guys
44:01the pair who've won the most coins across both final challenges will be crowned winners and take
44:08home the 50 000 pound prize how do you feel horrible anxious before completing their final game
44:17Barbara and Katie were leading Rosie and Lawrence by 10 coins to nine we got one ah so we're even now
44:25it was even yeah okay well it's 12
44:36to win would be absolutely amazing but to win with Barbara I can't even put into words 13
44:46we're at 13 here's 14
44:48my confidence has definitely uh grown while I've been having this experience a lot is thanks to
44:59Lawrence because he's always encouraging me and praising me uh and I think that that has certainly
45:05helped 15. I feel like coming here it's life changing you know I've learned that the world's a
45:12big place and just to appreciate a lot more you know like the simplicities in life I think
45:19have you guys got one to match
45:23wow it's getting scary isn't it yes the monies are we're that close
45:31so that's 17
45:34you guys got 17
45:35well we certainly are that close but
45:43we have got 17. oh pressure's on really now isn't it like a lot
45:51that's 18. the money would mean an awful lot to Lawrence he wants to do some things with his music
45:58and also wants to travel a bit as well yeah
46:06a level pegging at 18 and just two spaces left
46:09oh we're done you're joking no we're done you have won congratulations we've won seriously we've won yeah you've won
