00:00Day one of the Global Public Relations Conference and Festival Malaysia 2025 kicked off with a grand opening at the World Trade Center here in Kuala Lumpur.
00:10Let's have a look at what went down.
00:12The morning began with opening addresses by Perak Sultan Nazir Shah and Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil, which set the tone for a thought-provoking forum.
00:21Moving on, the first session on the agenda was a plenary by former Health Minister Kairi Jamaluddin, who highlighted the importance of transparency, empathy and consistent messaging in building and maintaining public trust, sharing personal experiences and lessons learned from adversity.
00:38When a crisis comes along, you actually feel focused and in the moment. That's what happens when you rewire your brain to embrace adversity.
00:46And that's what I've been doing. The last two years, I've been rewiring my brain to thrive in adversity, to find comfort in discomfort. And to me, adversity is a privilege.
00:57So I think for practitioners of PR, comms, I think try to engineer moments of adversity so that when it really comes, then you are sharp, in focus and you understand what to do.
01:09This was followed by a dialogue and sharing perceptions and driving change, communicating trust in transition, featuring communications experts sharing insights on credibility in times of transformation.
01:21The midday panel brought together leading female voices in media, including FMT's Chief Operating Officer, Jen Ngan, who spoke about authenticity and the importance of putting soul into storytelling.
01:33The session highlighted women's leadership and innovation in today's fast-evolving media landscape.
01:40Last but not least, the Partner Insights session by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission explored the ethics of stakeholder intelligence and the value of trust in an era of misinformation.
01:52Today, in this day and age, communications has become a lot simpler, but at the same time, infinitely more complex.
02:00So when we distill it down, how I see it is that in this new digital economy that we are in, data is actually the new currency that we are working with.
02:10And trust is both the interest or the merit that it earns, depending on how you use this data.
02:18As the first day concluded, participants left inspired, reminded that communication at its best connects people through transparency, empathy and purpose.
02:27That's all for today. Stay tuned for day two.
