00:00Jack, can you describe what happens after the president signs that document?
00:03What happens next in Washington?
00:06The first thing that happens is they have to call people back to work, and they have done that.
00:10So we need to see how many federal workers actually show up today, agency by agency,
00:17because this was not official until pretty late last night.
00:20The issue with federal workers not being paid has stretched on for so long that, again,
00:27this is agency by agency, tough to predict, but you certainly have a number of people
00:31leaning on sick time or vacation time to not show up when they were not being paid to do their jobs.
00:39So over the next few days at least, we're going to see, especially at agencies like the FAA
00:45and things that need to ramp up quickly, how quickly can they get everybody back in.
00:50The official plans for agencies to ramp up their operations call for quick action.
00:57It's not supposed to take weeks to work through a backlog, but the main impediment to getting things moving
01:04is that you have had people sitting at home because they were legally not allowed to work
01:08or people not being paid when they were working, and you get a bit of a morale issue
01:13and people using their time off to either work a second job or just not show up to a job
01:18where they're not getting paid.
01:19So by early next week, we should know more about how agencies are ramping things up,
01:24how much rust they have to shake off, but it certainly does take some effort after the president's pen hits paper.
